Clock starts ticking again on '24'

One of the most anticipated returning shows of the still-young year, "24," jumped back onto TV screens with part one Sunday night and part two on Monday. There's got to be a sadist or two on the scriptwriting team, no? Poor Jack Bauer spends almost as much time being tortured as he does saving the world.

Since the "24" Bingo card I linked to last week was such a hit, I wanted to share some more "24" links now that the show has returned. You can also share your thoughts about the show -- what's next for Jack and CTU? Personally I've only watched off-and-on over the years -- when "24" launched, I wasn't sure I could stand a weekly dose of fictional terrorism amidst all the real troubles we read about in our daily papers. But I'm tuning in this season.

Some "24" links:

One Suitcase-Nuke down and four to go! And it took a nuke explosion to get Jack back in the mood to really go after the bad guys. I wonder if Fox is getting us prepared for the reality of the next few years? Note that the Russians claim to have accounted for all their suitcase nukes. However, this is the same group of people who were securing a nuclear materials site with a padlock. That gives me a nice, warm, radioactive feeling.
You've been watching on and off for the past 5 seasons and now you're going to tune in THIS season? You'd better go rent seasons 1 through 5 buddy so that you're not scratching your head saying to yourself, "who's that character?" My friend had to ask me at the end of last season, "...why Jack was being taken to China?" My question to him was, "Did you watch season 4 yet?"
Obviously FOX is again playing the "sensationalism" and "fear" cards, and no doubt will have scores of Americans wanting to bring some serious "harm" to anyone of Arabic descent. Also the FBI "crackdown" casts the government itself as the "enemy", a typical and familiar "far-left" rant! Plenty of gratuitous violence also evident, especially when a terrorist's knee is cut open during an interrogation. But this is typical from the folks who gave us "Best Police Chases." If the show continues to capitalize on our fears, we'll all be on Zanax before the 24th edition! Typical of FOX!
Just wanted to let you know that I think you are WAY off base with your story on 24. I am a Dem and love the show! It is fiction at it's best. Yes, it does play on fear of what could happen, but it also shows how that fear can be miss used by the government, and that sometimes as Americans we have nothing to fear but fear it's self. The show has done a great job at presenting minorities as loyal Americans, little white spoiled girls as terrorists, and some top elected officials as the real bad guys. This show is really about humanity, how people react it devastating situations, and that no political or moral choice is clearly black or white. If it is the nuclear bomb going off that bothers you, I suggest that you go back four seasons to where another nuclear bomb went off in the US, or the bio threat a few years back, or the season that over 100 nuclear facilities were taken over. This is 24's sixth season, the shocking story may be new; however, this is not the first, second, or third shocking, devastating, or politically suggestive story line. I strongly suggest some of you go a buy the first five seasons on DVD, watch them all, and then come back to the table to talk!
I laugh when I read that someone thinks 24 is too far out to be believable. One of the things that really is true to life to me is how totally uninformed and unaware the general public is to what is going on around them. Jack is a superhero..and he keeps getting out of situations that no normal person would be able to survive. But Keifer's ability to pull-off not being afraid to die (for the right reasons) makes him all too believable to me. Only someone walking at the total edge with nothing to lose could take the actions he takes. I totally believe that our country faces these same challenges..and while the same man may not come to the rescue time after time, I believe we have trained agents who have the same abilities that Jack Bauer portrays. I think the writers are doing a fantastic job. I remain on the edge of my seat and count the hours each week until the next episode. I own box sets for the past 5 seasons and 6 will be on my Christmas list for next Christmas if I'm not killed by a terrorist bomb first. Save me, Jack!
Never watched it before the second two hours. Seems to be a Tom Clancy Ryanesque.
Agreed. The show is loved by republicans & democrats alike because it doesn't take sides. It gives you the arguement & lets you decide for yourself. Besides, who didn't know the bomb was going to go off? I mean, every review or article said to watch for the surprise at the end of the show. I wasn't surprised that Curtis went down. You could see that one coming just by his behavior throughout the episode. I still miss David Palmer, though. I wonder how Logan plays into all of this, since they said the actor who played him is coming back for a few episodes?
All I have to say is you must go out and get all five seasons and later come back and talk. I love this show and it just keeps on getting better.
Once again, Jack is back and better than ever! Always pushing the envelope, I can't wait until next Monday night to see how the US & TCU handles the nuke explosion.
There are elements of truth in every part of this show....who you think you can trust, who surprises you, who is a traitor, who is not, how will he escape, is it possible....but there are 2 constants...the Muslims are the bad guys....and Chloe has terrible taste in men....what is the deal with Morris? What a loser this guy is...and for what? Is something coming up with him? Will he turn out to be a suprise? The Presidents sister...whats up with her? I smell something rotten there...and the Islamic guy thats in custody...???? Dont trust anyone but Jack, and maybe Bill...see what happened to Curtis? Couldnt trust him after all...now lets see what Jack has up his sleeve to torture some more bad guys....go get 'em Jack...SAVE US!!
How good is the writing in 24? When you know that Curtis is going down and you still get a knot in your stomach, that's good writing. When you're sitting there thinking to yourself "What's the big deal? They've already set off a nuke in season 2?," and they tell you that there are 4 more nukes to go, that's good writing. I just sat there and smiled and shook my head. 20 more hours with Jack, Chloe, Bill, Karen and the gang. Go get 'em guys!
I consider myself a progressive liberal and I've been a fan since season one. What impressed from the beginning was the consistency, not only in the quality of the writing but everything else. Never does any individual scene fallen completely flat or even come close. Also, I have never bought the premise that the show is a neo-con fantasy. This is a Hollywood at its finest, a spot on the planet a neo-con would consider the present day Sodom and Gomorrah destined to be destroyed by an all-loving God not just a bunch or Arab terrorists. I think the producers sould push even further and go for a multi release 24 hour '24' movie. Bring in another actor for the TV show and let Kiefer and the other Producers shoot for something monumental. What is there to lose?... Except maybe, a half billion dollars or so.
Jack my girls and I say REAL MEN CRY!!! GREAT opening shows...your devoted fans
Do you know where to download the 24 ring on my cell phone?
I have watched "24" since the first episode and was hooked. I find it to be sheer escapist entertainment and the fastest hour on TV. I don't think about politics regarding the show-its a show! it is not real! MSNBC and the Gasbaugh on the radio were busy politizising it today, Just watch and enjoy.
Superman is in Metropolis
I've been watching since the first season and I love the show, but having these spineless presidents making these major decisions is getting old. This president sees no out except to obey every demand of the terrorist? I know it's only a show, but having a president that would be a fighter like Jack would be much more fun.
Best show on TV!!! The first 4 hours again kept me glued to my seat, I do believe that Morris is going to be a "suprise" also.I agree with Mr Lang its just a show.
I adore Keith Olbermann dearly and have sent him e-mails telling him so after a few of his special comments but I am a liberal who loves "24". Keith might want to consider that his own beliefs in his personal agenda have made him more than a bit paranoid on this one count Jack Bauer isn't there to make Bush look good, (Kiefer is Canadian raised born in England, for heaven's sake) You also see the emotional toll Jack pays for the methods the show makes, regret and reflection we see nothing of by the waterboarding fun house in real Washington. I love you Keith, but I love "24" too. So you can't really be right in your comments. I don't leave my TV suddenly thinking Fox News has it right, I leave it entertained because it's only a Tv show. Relax... if anything will bring the black helicopters out it's the things Keith gets to say, and rightly so, his own self on television.
Big fan of Keith Olbermans's but he struck out tonight with his theory on '24' being a fear-tactic of the Fox network. The majority of previous seasons have bashed the Government more than the terrorists themselves. Keifer himself has admitted he's on the left of the political spectrum. While I understand the Fox News Corp. has taken a political slant over recent years, Fox 'regular' programming remains fairly middle of the road...Family Guy anyone?
Are you people kidding me? If you haven't watched the first 5 seasons of 24, then you are missing the best television series in history!! Right on to all my fellow fans! Yet again, Jack is back and better than ever, January is finally here! It's amazing that year after year, I remember where I was watching the final episode of a season, and the cliff hangers that left me hanging until January of the following year! And I gotta hand it to you Mr. Sunderland, I’ve developed quite a crush on you over the years… nothing I love better than the man who makes MacGyver a rookie! The story lines are pure genius, and let’s get real all you political annalists, its fiction! The fact that you all get your panties in a bunch of the controversial issues the show presents, and actually take up air time to discuss it, is hilarious! Take your time and find better positive things to do in life... go feed a hungry child, and leave Jack to save the world... AGAIN!
By far the and most originally-formatted show on TV. Just seems to get better and better. After seeing Jack bite that dude's neck I couldn't help but think of that children's chior chanting "thou shall not fall (from the 'Lost Boys')." :) Seriously though, this is the only show where I am willing to suspend disbelief to see what will happen next and how Jack will get the jb done.
I thought that our government doesn't deal with terrorists. President Palmer needs to "man up" a little better than he's shown. Did anyone see the short interview with Chloe in Parade magazine? There is something definitely up with Morris. Chloe MUST have better taste than that. But the younger guy in CTU (forget his name) something will definitely be up with him later in the show. Show keeps getting better and better. Makes me not trust anyone, other than Jack. Monday seems like a long ways away.
Am I the only person who wishes this show would go away?
24, Lost, The Unit! All Jsut TV. I miss Bugs, elmer Road runner and WilE!!! Now that was real teeror!
I do not watch television because of the commercials. My wife and I read lots of fiction instead. We've been reading Vince Flynn recently and fine Jack Bauer close enough to have sat through fours hours of commercials and enough 24 to keep us watching. Terrorism is all too real in this world and I hope that the character of Jack is somewhere in our government system protecting us.
Quoting - "Obviously FOX is again playing the "sensationalism" and "fear" cards, and no doubt will have scores of Americans wanting to bring some serious "harm" to anyone of Arabic descent. " Apparently, you missed the whole opener where we saw that one of the very people of arabic descent you mention actually helps the goverment when he overhears something in the detainment camp. Or the former terrorist that is trying to renounce violence and assist Jack in finding Fayed. I see your point that some people will react like the redneck Steve who attacked Ahmed when his father was taken away and might assume that any Muslim or Arab is a terrorist, but that is not always the case. Seems to me in warning others of sterotyping, you did the same as well. Its a tv show, Steve. Its entertainment. Were you complaining when Russians were the enemy on JAG? Did you rail against the unfair portrayal of the Cylons on Battlestar Gallactica? Are the Borg of Star Trek just misunderstood? And as for the 'far left' view of goverment crackdowns that you mention, are you for detaining people without a warrant, for arresting folks without just cause, for eavesdropping at will with no oversight? If so, there may be some land left in Iran you can move onto. What sets America apart from dictatorships is that we don't have those things. We have the right to bear arms, the right to speak out against the goverment if we want to, the right to demand accountability. Just as you are entiteld to your opinion, and I would defend to the death your right to speak it, others are to theirs. They also deserve the right not to be lambasted for believing what they do. So please, take your political rants to the op-ed page and leave the entertainment section to those of us who want entertainment. Looks like Steve Korin should read this: http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/posting.php
If 24 doesn't get your juices flowing, please have someone check your pulse. It is the only show I watch and the reason is simple, it is pure, 100% unfiltered entertainment. Those who don't like it are basically closet wimps.
24 passes as fast as a good book on a plane. It makes you want to take another flight.
We would watch this action packed show no matter what network it was on ! We also think that Chloe is getting hotter as this series evolves into clench- your-teeth-hold-on tight-unforgettable TV history!
Another season, another 24 hours of sitting in front of the T.V. and not moving, this show is as good as it was the first day it aired, my son knows when he hears that music it`s don`t bother mommy while that Jack guy is on!!!!
The great American Hero is Canadian
Jack's Back!!! My two favorite shows both evoke gritty realism, morally gray ambiguities and a roller coaster ride!! But it's just a show!!! Enjoy it, despise it, just keep in mind that it's fiction!!!!
Can you believe the Bluetooth-wearing-president-manipulating leader is TADA, JACKS BROTHER, OMG this is just getting better and better and better.
