Help us choose a new comic

We'd like to ask you to weigh in on what should happen next on our comic-strip page now that "FoxTrot" has trotted off to Sundays only. MSNBC.com can continue to run "Fox Trot" reruns, which I have no problem with, since they're still hilarious to me the second time around. Or we can choose a new strip from the list of comics our supplier provides.

Here are just a couple of the comics we could pick up:

"For Better or For Worse," which we know is heading for hybrid form eventually, but is obviously a hot topic with some of us. (Come on, Liz, pick Warren, he's much cooler than Anthony.)

"Lio," a neat little strip with no dialogue and a kind of "Calvin and Hobbes" feel.

"Red and Rover," another good one, by the same cartoonist who draws "Adam." I love how simple Red's childhood feels compared to our modern rush, and his crush on Marcia Brady cracks me up.

"Bo Nanas," about a three-foot-tall talking monkey.

"Ginger Meggs," a sort of Australian "Dennis the Menace"

"PreTeena," about an 11-year-old girl stuck in that weird place between childhood and teendom.

"One Big Happy," in which li'l Ruthie tells it like it is.

"Liberty Meadows," where the talking animals are smarter than their human pals.

The list also includes such classics as "Cathy"  (ACK!), "Ziggy," and "Shoe," as well as other strips that have more than one word in their names.

Strips we already run on a daily basis include "Doonesbury," "Adam," "Tom the Dancing Bug" and the others listed here.

Take a minute, scan the list we can choose from, look at the sample strips provided. I'm interested in your comments -- that's a long list to choose from, and I'm betting there are some undiscovered gems on it that I know nothing about.

I remember when I worked at a newspaper, nothing would draw more angry letters and phone calls than when the paper decided to change its comics lineup. Nothing -- not international news coverage, political commentary -- nothing made people angrier than messing with their funny papers. (Well, except for that one time when the newspaper threatened to drop the bridge column. Who knew so many people still played bridge?)

I'm happy to live in a world now that makes it easy to read your favorite comic strip online even if your local newspaper doesn't carry it.

Please consider "One Big Happy" as the next "new" comic
I vote for Red and Rover. That one looks fun and my kids would enjoy it.
Errrrrm....Pearls Before Swine, kplzthnx.
Dog eat Doug
For Better or Worse. My wife Doti & I are John & Ellie's age, and our children are close in age to theirs. Even our pet life has been somewhat parallel to theirs. We've grown up together.
I like Liberty Meadows.
I reccommend the following comics: "Zits" "Baby Blues" "Drabble" " Mallard Fillmore"
Real Life Adventures. It was my favorite comic to read back when I would get a newspaper.
What about "Zits"? It's an easy transition from Fox Trot to Zits - Jeremy is the only child, a teenager, stuck living with his two parents who can't figure him out. It's one strip that Moms and teenagers can agree upon!
Lio and Red and Rover seem to appeal to me. I am female and over 40. Pet-Lover.
My vote for a new strip goes to Lio. The Lio sample strips both made me laugh. I agree that there is a "Calvin & Hobbes" feel to it and C&H was my favorite comic strip of all time. Bring on Lio.
I like Lio.
I would like either For Better or Worst added, or Get Fuzzy. Thank you!
For Better or For Worse is the best strip going these days.
I would suggest either Brewster Rockit or Overboard. Both are relatively newer, quality strips and should get more opportunities. Please just don't choose some old familiar comic that is no longer funny just because its old and familiar. A lot of "classics" like Cathy, Ziggy, Andy Capp, Broom Hilda, B.C., Frank and Earnest, Momma, Shoe, and Ziggy fall into this category and, IMO, should be phased out in favor of newer fare.
For Better of For Worse is a wonderful comic that I would love to see here! BUT Red and Rover makes you feel good all over and I love to have it in my day! Can't we get two???
I love Red and Rover! It's probably because I'm an aging Baby Boomer, but it certainly reflects a sensibility that reminds me of my youth. And, although my kids are all grown, Zits has become one of my new favorites. Again, maybe I'm just identifying with his parents.
Lio all the way. Enough words, let us think.
Put in Lio! That comic strip is hysterical and very clever!
B.C. is always great
Hi! Love Red and Rover and am also addicted to For Better or For Worse.
Oh, please, not Ruthie. Our local paper carries it and it's only funny once in a great while. For Better or Worse, which is also carried locally, is much better. And Anthony was her first love...
Please please please - NO 'CATHY.' That shtick was tired 20 years ago and has not evolved - oh horrors - the swimsuit still doesn't fit! I am already a fan of 'Red & Rover' and 'Bo Nanas' so I'd be happy with either one.
I like "Lio" and "Red and Rover". I haven't seen these available on other sites.
If you don't have The Boondocks, then you need it. It is the most cutting edge comic strip currently in print (possibly ever, but The Far Side would rightly beg to differ with that). Also, it is unequivocally hilarious.
I heard that For Better or For Worse was going to be discontinued during the summer, so I'd guess it's not a good choice. I like Lio. I've stopped getting the paper where it's shown, so would appreciate an alternative location for it.
I would like to see reruns of Walt Kelly's Pogo, the best adult comic strip ever written. The wise observations encompassed in the strip were classic. Case in point: "We have met the enemy and he is us."
PreTeena is a funny comic that I think anyone can relate to.
You should select Prickly City to replace Foxtrot.
For Better or For Worse has been my favorite for years. I have been reading it since it started, and try not to miss a day. The Paterson's are truly a part of my family.
Lio gets my vote.
Red and Rover looks pretty good.
I like the Lio strip. I miss Calvin and Hobbs, and yes, this does remind me of it.
I'd love to see "Wizard of Id" or "Andy Capp." They're classics.
While I think all of the comics listed are very good, I think, in choosing just one, I would have to vote for Liberty Meadows.
My vote goes to "PreTeena".
Have to get Lio or Pickles.
Of the ones listed I would say Liberty Meadows. Frank Cho is funny and a great artist. Not listed I would suggest: True Story Swear to God (autobiographical, california cartoonist moves to Puerto Rico to be with the love of his life), The Norm, Mutts or even PvP (which is already online, but is very good.)
What? No "Get Fuzzy?"
What about replacing The Boondocks, since that strip is no longer in production, either?
Red and Rover gets my vote. Anything with a dog in it always appeals to most humans!
Barring a customizable comics page where we get to set our own list for daily viewing, like the stock page on MSNBC home, I would recommend dropping Doonsbury (should be on the political comic page) and Tom the Dancing Bug, keep Foxtrot, and introduce Lio and PreTeena to hit a wide target audience.
For Better or Worse please - it's a good clean comic that the whole family can enjoy.
I DON'T CARE WHAT THEY DISCONTINUE AS LONG AS IT'S NOT POOCH CAFE. I LOVE THAT LITTLE DOG. IT IS SO FUNNY THAT I CAN'T READ IT AT WORK. (BECAUSE OF ALL THE LAUGHING.)
My favorites, beside FBFW, are B.C. and Wizard of Iz, they are hilarious.
Dog Eat Doug has become my new "must read" comic. It'd be great to see it on here every day.
Of those you've listed, I really love Cathy. Another good one is Baby Blues.
Yes, "Red and Rover" looks like a winner based on the samples.
Liberty Meadows!!!!
I vote for DOg eat DOug
