'Idol' making up rules as it goes along

There are a few certainties about "American Idol." Simon will be booed by viewers for stating what's clearly obvious to anyone with working ears. Paula Abdul will act loopy, convincing viewers that there's something other than Coca-Cola in her red plastic glass. And of course, one or more of the "Idol" wannabes will see a scandal from his or her past surface and threaten to knock them out of the competition.

This year, two minor scandals bloomed forth even before their singers got very far in the contest. Akron Watson was disinvited from the Hollywood round for no apparent reason, leaving most to assume it's because of the marijuana bust in his past. Ashlyn Carr, memorable because Simon and crew first disinvited her to Hollywood, then called her back, apparently once confessed to dumping sugar in an ex-boyfriend's gas tank. But Akron's dismissal was quietly shoved under the rug, and Ashlyn didn't last long enough for her sugary-sweet past to become a worry.

They're hardly the first "Idol" wannabes to have run-ins with the law. Perhaps the most famous is Bo Bice, who almost won it all in 2005. The long-haired rocker was arrested twice in the four years before his competition, once for felony cocaine possession. He completed a drug program and had that charge dismissed. When The Smoking Gun dug up the charges, Fox was almost snippy about defending Bice, calling the site "salacious" and saying that Bice had been honest with the network show about his charges.

A more uncomfortable moment ensued when finalist Scott Savol turned out to have a domestic violence arrest in his past, allegedly shoving the mother of his son and breaking a telephone on her. (Telephones are made of pretty sturdy stuff, so, ouch.) Again, Fox said Savol had been honest, and he stayed on the show.

Compared to drugs and domestic violence, current "Idol" singer Antonella Barba's reported risque photos seem pretty mild. Some say she's not even the person in the racier photos, and even if she was, what's her crime? She was young and stupid and someone had a camera. Viewers can't help but remember Vanessa Williams, Miss America 1984, who had to give up her crown thanks to naughty photos, and went on to be recognized as the most talented Miss America ever.

"American Idol" producers have been ignoring Barba's photos, and that seems like a fairly sensible decision, especially considering she does not possess one of the show's strongest voices and is unlikely to go far. But there's one problem with the producers' sudden attack of logic: Frenchie Davis.

Davis was booted from "Idol" in 2003 because she'd posed for racy photos on a Web site. She was paid for her photos, while Barba (if it is Barba in the questionable pics) appears to have been just goofing around. But Davis was kicked off the show, while Barba was not. Was the fact that she accepted money for her photos the difference?

Since Davis is black and Barba white, some are calling it racism. Davis isn't among them. She doesn't think race has anything to do with it, but from interviews with her, it's clear that she does see a double standard. And she claims she was clear about her photos before going on to the show, just as Savol and Bice reportedly were about the issues in their pasts.

Davis went on to find Broadway success, and is currently singing in the musical "Rent." She's hinting that she wouldn't mind a monetary settlement from the show, saying she is owed more than an apology, which is absolutely the wrong thing to say. The ground she's standing on would look a lot more firm if she simply went forward and saying "I don't want money, I just want someone to explain the difference."

"American Idol" is a family show, no question about it. Obviously, the show producers would love it if all their contestants came to the stage fresh from feeding the hungry and building homes for Hurricane Katrina victims. But these singers are at varying stages of life -- some are wide-eyed and 16, others are married parents, aged 27 or 28.

And the show is kidding itself and its audience to pretend that the music scene that its contestants desperately want to enter is just one step away from the convent. When Bo Bice's drug arrests became public, savvy observers laughed at the idea that a guy who's been playing music in bars for years was expected to have never come in contact with drugs.

It's not that Fox should let a serial killer into its tidy little contest -- no one's asking for that. And most people don't think Barba's photos (again, assuming they are of her) are worth kicking her out over, either.

But if the show wants this Barba-Davis issue to go away, someone at Fox needs to step up and address the issue. This is very unlikely to happen, considering how secretive the show is about things such as vote totals and phone-line glitches, but here's how I'd like it to go down.

A show spokesperson should speak publicly and explain why Davis was kicked off and Barba hasn't been. Maybe hand out a chart: Domestic violence: OK, if it doesn't involve anything heavier than a phone. Drug arrests: OK, if you get treatment. Racy photos: OK, if you're not paid for them. Or make a blanket statement: If we know about your issue ahead of time, we'll take it on a case-by-case basis, but if if we're blindsided by the tabloids while you're on the show, you're going home.

Whatever their explanation is, if it rings true, viewers will know. If not, then the show has deeper problems.

If you've seen the pictures of Barba, you'll see that they're not your average fun partying pictures. Sure there are some in a bar and those are fine. but the others look like they're professionally done or they were done to be sent to an agent or something. I know when I'm taking fun pictures with friends, I don't pose on a basketball in my little white undies. I don't do sexy poses in a WWII Memorial fountain. That's not something that you just do when having fun with friends. Whether they've been published or not, I believe the pictures were taken with that intent.
I think the whole issue is being blown out of proportion. Yes, they both made stupid mistakes, but it is NOT a racial issue how everyone seems to think it is. Why can people not just accept that they are both human beings regardless of their skin color! Can we not look beyone that? As far as talent, Frenchie was talented and not so much for Barba. However, this is a reality TV show. The rules are going to change regardless. The change them as the situation fits. No one asked either of them to go on the show, or to take pictures of themselves. However, now they are both being thrown through the mud because of their decisions, for whatever reason they chose to do it. They both just need to drop it. In regards to monetary restitution, if Frenchy was as great a singer as everyone thought she was, she would already be signed by a label. As for Barba, if her friend posted them on the net, she should be seeking legal counsel to go against the person who posted them on the net! Truth in point, everyone has skeletons in their closet, it is all what you decide to do with them.
Antonella should be kicked off the show BECAUSE SHE CAN'T SING, not because she may have some naughty pictures of her floating around on the internet.
I think American Idol producers are guilty of discrimination and this has nothing to do with F. Davis. If you ask me the fact that there is a maximum age limit is discriminatory. What if I decided I wanted to have a singing competition and say no black people can audition, or no Asians can audition? That is clear discrimination and clearly would not be allowed in this country, so why is it that a maximum age limit is set and that is not considered discrimination? Furthermore, an "idol" is someone who has established themself to a postion worthy of being an "idol". Somebody 16 - 28 would not have established themself as worthy of being an "idol", except for rare occasions. In the music industry people there are hundreds of people over 28 who are really taltned; the ones who have established and honed their talent; and lots of these people still looking for that almighty break. It seems quite unfair to exlude them from this singing competition. Much of the talent on this season are far from exceptional and there is a lot of undiscovered exceptional talent in a older age range. Thanks for letting me get this off my chest!
Ummmm...HELLO!?!? This is about to become a big old NON-ISSUE anyway. Little Miss No Talent Barba isn't going to be around much longer. She's about to be voted off the island, and within a week nobody will remember her or her stupid photos.
How can the show be racist when 2 of the 5 winners have been black?
Barba cannot sing and probably would have gone home first if these photos had not surfaced. While Barba denies them, look at all the attention and fame they have gotten her, everyone knows her name. You cant say that for the rest of the top 24. I bet she manages to use this as a stepping stone. I am not sure who ever put these photos out did it to hurt her as somebody said any publicity is good publicity!
OK, folks let's get real. Would you want to be judged today for something you did five years ago, whether you were upfront with folks about it or not? The reality is that it is a double standard; no Frenchie should not be looking for money even though one could argue that being booted from Idol negatively impacted her earnings potential. All of the little variants people find to indicate circumstantial differences are non-sense (Show me an instance where drug use is acceptable)....if pornographic photos posted on the web qualifies for dismissal, does not drug abuse? Both cases are historical and apparently were brought to the attention of the producers. If there is going to be a contest, then there needs to be consistency with the rules by which the contestants are to abide.
It's a singing contest, not a morality judgment!
Racism? Oh, please! The show is rigged so the winner is whoever the producers want it to be and 2 out of the last 5 seasons have given us black winners. Sorry, but the racism claims just don't make good sense. I'm pleasantly surprised Frenchie herself isn't crying racism. It would be a classy move if she wasn't just looking for cash. Antonella isn't being kicked off because she can't sing and she isn't going to win. Frenchie had a fighting chance and they had to get rid of her because an Idol who took dirty pictures just won't do.
One of the biggest differences I see is that Franchie was a front runner from the very beginning, she has a phenomenal voice! Antonella on the other hand is mediocre at best. Simon says it every week, this is a singing competition. Barba shouldn't even have gotten this far. What they showed of her during the Hollywood week had me seriously questioning what they based their decision to keep her on. She forgot lyrics and overall did not do anything to leave a lasting impression, yet somehow made it through to the top 24. Racy photos aside, if this is in fact a singing competition, she needs to go home because her voice is nothing to brag about.
what a boring season AI has this ytear. I was looking forward for the program to emerge again & was totally disappointed as the show go on. First thereis the "3" judges to observe and one comment is "what is wrong with Paula? Has she lost her dignity? Acting weird/kinda drunk and high & shaking her a*s if the music is jiveby. Please Paula act like a "LADY" without over doing it. I still want you to be one of the judges but be a natural. Thanks to Simon's bluntness/honesty about the contestants talent. At least he is telling the truth. If I was a contestant & knew I don't have that singing talent I will not expose myself for the million of people to see & be rediculed even if they don't know me. Contestant have some kind of dignity. For the talented ones' show your skills.
I'm pretty sure that Antonella is Italian...but anyway. There are websites out there that encourage people to "Vote for the Worst" - check it out if you don't believe me. Antonella is one of the picks, this is the reason she is staying on the show when she should be eliminated and it's happened in seasons past...not because the show is rigged. And while what she did was distasteful, those pictures were private...not intended for other eyes to see, while Frenchie's pictures were taken for the sole purpose of other people to see. I hate to see people pull the racism card so much, it's almost like crying wolf. There really are legit problems with racism in this country, let's focus on those and not make problems where there are none.
Try Italian, not hispanic!
I agree with Peggy... Truth be told, it double standard all the way, like it or not. That's just the way it is, for me it comes down to the fact Antonella CANNOT sing but yet week after week there she is acting like she can and getting snippy with the judges when they call her on it... Did anyone notice that initial look of pure anger that crossed her face when Randy told her she didn't cut it, and her having the nerve to say Simon was wrong about Jeniffer Hudson. In what world can their talent or lack theref be compared? Ms Barba is obviously someone who has gotten along and probably even had it easier than most because of her looks. Week after week, it's her looks along with the producers need to have her there for ratings is what keeps her on the show, we all know there's no way for the viewing public to know for sure the validity of the voting results, let's face it, AI is sure entertainment and a huge cash cow for FOX
Antonella was sitting on a TOILET smiling holding toilet paper! If this doesn's show questionable moral judgement, I don't know what does! Frenchie was on a site that was LEGAL. She needed money. How is that different from former contestants who have been professional strippers? Although I don't think it is racism, I do think she was discriminated against due to her size and appearance. On a side note, why is it that Ryan Seacrest isn't being reprimanded from pointing/elluding to, on a live family show, that kelly Pickler had breast enhancement surgery? Why did the producers air the audition round of the girl talking about how her father shot her step mother in the throat? Remember, fans of the show don't always surf the internet to dig dirt, but the producers and editors consciencely decided to dish it on air.
What I really like is the way everyone refer to the pictures as "alledged" , " a woman who looks like Barba" , truth is we will be seeing a lot more of this girl, AI or not.
I am so sick of people crying racism over this. These are two different offenses, as has been clearly stated. Davis wasn't booted from the show because she's black, she was booted because she chose to pose for porn well aware it would end up on the web for the world to see. And I'm sure Barba wasn't kept strictly because she's white, maybe they decided to let her stay because they knew she never intended for her photos to become public. Or maybe it's because there's no proof those racier photos are even her. Whatever the case is, I'm sure the A.I. execs know much more about the issue than we do. Maybe we should save the racism accusations for when they actually apply, huh?
There is a BIG difference here, and it has NOTHING to do with race. Frenchie Davis didn't just pose for nude photos. She was part of an interactive pornographic website. That is a HUGE difference from Antonella's pictures. However, Ebony Joiner, another talented young singer, was not put through to the top 40 because she posed in racy lingerie with football players. AI needs to be consistant. When these pictures were made public, they should have let Antonella go. She has NO CHANCE of winning. She can't even sing well. Marisa Rhodes, who was with her in the final 2 to go to the top 24, was robbed. Marisa was a much better singer and she should have been put through. I hope she comes back next year and gets to the top 24. Antonella is also very disrespectful to the judges. Her comments last week were uncalled for an also untrue. The fact that these pictures do exist shows that she has made some very foolish choices. The picture of her in front of the WW2 War Memorial is inexcusable. It is a slap in the face to every veteran who fought in that war. In this age of Y0uTube and My Sp@ce, you need to keep your pants up and your underwear on, or your reputation may suffer for years to come. Antonella needs to go home this week. AI is going to have to do some major PR work over this. Not only has this scandal hurt AI, but also the fact that there are hardly any good singers this year compared to last year. Melinda, LaKisha, Blake and Chris Sligh are the only ones worthy of the top 4! Stephanie and Jordin are good, but no one else is unique or shines. I think AI will lose ratings once the top 10 is announced.
I would like to see AI choose the top 12 voices also instead of 6 male and 6 female. The number of votes would be nice also. We should vote for who we don't want to stay in the contest.
Barba needs to go, period. She can't sing, and how does having racy photos of one of your contestants plastered all over the internet help you in the long run, seriously Idol? It might boost ratings in the short run, but COME ON... do you seriously think that parents and more morally uptight people who probably USED to watch the show are going to continue to watch it now? Plus, Barba claiming the oral sex photos aren't her is BS, if you ask me. The website Vote For The Worst, one of the original places to post the photos and claim they were her, is now saying that, based on an EAR SHAPE COMPARISON (oh yeah, real scientific evidence, that) that the oral sex photos are NOT, in fact, Barba. I don't know about most of you, but I'd prefer a bit more scientific evidence than that. I've heard claims that the photos were taken off of an adult website; I'd like to see the URL for this website produced so I can see if there are any photo credits or identifications of this woman. Until then, I'm sticking to the idea that it IS Barba, because regardless of a minor difference in ear shape (which could be attributed to the angle of the photograph or the fact that it was dark versus light or a hundred other factors) the woman looks EXACTLY like her. And yes, I have actually seen the photos, much to my eternal disgust. As for Frenchie; you know what, more power to her if she takes Idol to the bank. I think they need a wakeup call anyway; just because you're the most popular show on television currently doesn't mean you're invincible. They need to change the way they do things on that show, PRONTO. Change the voting system, make it so the judges pick the top twelve instead of letting America vote for them; that way we'd actually get some TALENT in the top 12; heck, change up the judges on occasion. But keep Simon; if nothing else, he tells it like it is, and I respect the heck out of him for that. My two cents.
In one photo Barba is sitting bare-bottomed on the WWII Veteran's Memorial Fountain in Washington, D.C. That's a public place, and definitely not "private."
In all my time on the internet I have -never- come across so many consecutive posts that contained not only legibility but good English in some cases. Forget the topic at hand - I'm beginning to get suspicious of who's really posting all these comments. FOX hiring people to stir up the masses? It wouldn't be the first time something like that has happened...
Antonella Barba is an Italian name.
First off, know that I have not seen any of the offending pics of either Frenchie or Antonella. My beef is with how the show started out in the beginning by booting off people (even talented ones like Frenchie), I assume because they wanted to be considered a "family" show. Cool....why change now?? They are still broadcasting during the family hours of 8pm to 10pm. If you start out with a strict rule of "no criminal or immoral acts allowed" six years ago, then you must stick to that rule today, if you still want to appeal to the "kiddies" out there. AI...you do still want to appeal to the kiddies out there, don't you??
Antonella=huge crashing bore. Oh pretty, yeah I guess...whatever...but frankly, she even seems embarassed when the judges bring that up. But at the end of the day, her pictures are like any other tarty myspace pictures -- earth to young girls everywhere --stop it. It's stupid and going to resurface someday and you're going to make your mom and dad feel bad. Use your brains, not your boobs.
I think AI has a problem promoting some of their contestants. They never seemed to be able to sucessfully market Ruben Studdard but they went out of their way to provide Clay Aikens with an image. I think had the winner been up to the AI producers, Clay would have won over Rueben. What's that got to do with the inconsistency between Frenchie and Barba? Well, I suspect AI would have had a huge problem marketing Frenchie. I don't know if readers/posters here remember her for the brief time she was on AI but she had an awesome and powerful voice. She'd make Barba sound like a singing chipmuck. I can't help but wonder if AI realized their short comings, kicked her off out of fear of tainting their family friendly program but perhaps hooked her up with the right people on Broadway. Just like they hooked Clay up with better promoters/marketing than Rueben.
Domestic violence: OK if it's not larger than a phone??? In that case, here are the other limitations: Drug possession: OK if less than 20 ounces; murder: OK if done in the 5th degree; child abuse: OK if no visible marks remain; armed robbert: OK if the weapon(s) wasn't(weren't) loaded; animal abuse: OK if animal has no permanent damage.
Give Frenchie some money. She got screwed out of a chance to cash in big time when they booted her. Keep Antonella just to give this show what it deserves... Vote for the worst folks... Maybe then they'll put in 24 talented people instead of 3 or 4 and a bunch of karaoke singers....
i really don't think it's blatant racism per se, but i do think that people are in general more sensitive to young beautiful non-black women than to black women...be it race, beauty, weight whatever. i mean, ask yourself this, back 5 years ago (or even now), had frenchie's pictures been for personal use and were 'leaked' would you really be saying "she was just young and dumb" and give her a chance to win? Im sure the majority would not. People have to face reality that there's a double-standard...it's not necessarily classified as racism. For instance, the two girls here in Atlanta that robbed a bank are being called 'Barbie Bandits'. They are being protrayed favorable in the media...."they are good kids who went down the wrong path". Truthfully, had that been two black females, would we really be hearing this?? anyway, frenchie did not stir up this mess, she was brought into it by whomever wanted to make controversy (although i must say that i thought about frenchie when i first heard about anna)...and she does not want money, just an explanation. she said that she's found happiness on broadway.
Hello morons. Antonella took those photos for someone. She did not pose for a web site. It is not her fault thats where they ended up.
I don't think any of the contestants deserved the boot. Look at any of today's pop-stars and these Idol kids are a lot more "squeeky-clean" than most of them. Britney Spears anyone? Frenchie probably needed the money and posed for the pictures, something I wouldn't do, but who am I to judge? Antonella is just young and ignorant. These kinds of things don't really bother me, it's the media storm that surrounds it and the way FOX handles it that I have a problem with. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Don't leave the reasons up for interpretation, make a statement about it so you don't look like such a hypocrite slimeball (FOX).
Miss Mary Prince of Illinois says that one of the pictures is of Miss Barba sitting on a TOILET and holding TOILET PAPER! Then she questions her moral quality. Oh those reprehensible toilets. Surely only HEATHENS use them. And only the most VILE of people would dare to use TOILET PAPER while on the toilet!
The writer can write whatever makes a story great. Now the basis of this story is an eye opener...great points...and very well written, but don't harp on the part the Davis wants money when her statement wasn't written in quotes...just the writers version of what may not be the truth. (((She's hinting that she wouldn't mind a monetary settlement from the show, which is absolutely the wrong thing to say. The ground she's standing on would look a lot more firm if she simply went forward and saying "I don't want money, I just want someone to explain the difference."))) Read it again...which sounds like Davis and which is the writers 'ohhwee make it juicy'...I believe the end..."I don't want money, I just want someone to explain the difference"....is actually the Davis we wanted to vote for...I believe her statement was twisted into this paragraph to appear the way it appears. Now to the real real real deal. This girl will be going home real soon. What we heard during audition was a comparison to the 'stop them now' non singers...now that she's up against some really good singers...her time is about up. AND....if the photos are of her...I'll bet my last cent on HER Girlfriend who was booted off by the judges is behind the whole stinking thing. Those were photos that only silly girls having fun will take...she needs to re-evaluate her friendship with the one that feels her buddy stabbed her in the back. Remember the booted off one was trained to sing...and the riskyone was not...but got a spot. Yep..girly check your friend.
I have to chuckle at David's post. There are a lot of intelligent people who watch American Idol. It's not just all teenage girls. Fox certainly didn't hire me to stir up the masses, I actually came up with an opinion all on my own! And just because a photo was taken in a "public" place, doesn't mean the photo was "public" as well. I took a picture of me in the park, it doesn't mean I had intentions to post it on the internet. Come on!
I don't think it is racist, but I do think it may be weightest! Frenchie is not a 'little' girl, she is a big woman with a big voice. Barba is playboy material. When Frenchie was on AI, Simon was still making fun of women's weight. I think the fact that Barba has tight b00bs and a tight a$$ is the biggest difference.
what a boring season AI has this year. I was looking forward for the program to emerge again & was totally disappointed as the show go on. First there is the "3" judges to observe and one comment is "what is wrong with Paula? Has she lost her dignity? Acting weird/kinda drunk and high & shaking her a*s if the music is jiveby. Contestant have some kind of dignity. For the talented ones' show your skills.
Ear shape comparison is legitimate evidence. Ears are like fingerprints, no two are exactly alike.
I haven't seen these pictures of Antonella, but I have feeling she has allowed these to be released. This is a real shame, cause if she wins American Idol, it will not be for her singing. It will be because of these photos..... What a shame!
the show is out for 1 thing and that is to make money -- they could care less about anything else. The fact that Barba might make the top 12 because of her pictures is just sad. The WWII Memorial pictures are her though and they are a disgrace
Has everyone here posting actually seen the Barba pictures. There are so many comments that the photos were all "private" snapshots and not professionally taken shots. I don't know but the "american beauty" pose sure looks like a professional shot to me. It sure looks to me like a double standard at play here although I think it is less about race and more about size and weight. I am not surprised by the stand taken by AI with respect to Barba considering the considerable time that was invested in her and her friend in the early episodes. To have invested that time only to boot her off as they did Davis would not have made for good tv.
People crack me up who think "Simon is always right." I don't think he's turned on a station with current music for a decade. He MANY times has dissed a contestant for appearance, will never be more than a Cabaret singer, won't get farther than Broadway, ad nauseum, then jumps on the bandwagon when it's apparent the contestant is going farther than he'd hoped; i.e., Clay Aiken, Jennifer Hudson, etc. And the man who must think he looks hot in one of his 350 faded black Hanes t-shirts thinks I care about his opinion on someone's outfit or appearance. What an idiot.
If they stopped producing A.I., it would barely produce a blip on my radar, so little do I care about the show and it's contestants and judges. Boring, boring, boring. Snore.
Ok. Here is the scoop. This show has been and will always be bad. Poor singers at best, even the winners. If the silly masses would quit voting maybe humanity as a whole could be saved from future seasons of this drible.
To those of you questioning if Barba is white....are you crazy? She is am Italian Jersey Girl (not that there's anything wrong with that).
I agree the show's a family show, and certain people shouldn't be on it. Murderers and those convicted of manslaughter (regardless of the circumstances) for example. If Davis is a "bad example", why wasn't Fantasia considered one as well? After all, it was discovered that she really couldn't read that well, and she's a teenage mother. I agree with Davis. There really does seem to be a double standard on AI. You can be young and irresponsible, beat your girlfriend with a telephone, and get arrested not once, not once, but TWICE for drug offenses (at least one being a felony), but you can't pose in racy photographs and get paid for it. Either the show's producers need to focus on finding a true and ocmplete American Idol, or make it about the singing only, and ignore the personal issues. Until then, honestly, it just looks like they're looking for pretty people.
As far as I see it the issue SHOULD be that some of those pictures were taken IN the fountain of the WWII memorial. Can that little get any more disrespectful? It's disgusting. THAT is what she should be kicked off for: Crawling around essentially naked in a memorial honoring the "Greatest Generation" for their sacrifice of thousands of lives and having pictures taken of it (which appear to be professional and intentionally sexual).
Some of the above comments are race related. People, this is 2007. Vanessa Williams got a bad rap. She is beautiful and talented. She rose above everything and has made a solid career because that is what she wanted to do. Frenchie has more talent than Ms. Barba and who cares if it is about money, we are talking American Idol here and if Frenchie gets Broadway because she indeed can sing, and Antonella gets Playboy or nothing because she is pretty, but has a nasty attitude, then it is great for both of them. I thought Simon was nice tonight. Antonella can't sing other than for friends or family. She is not stage material. I am proud of Frenchie and I am white. It is not a race issue. It is a talent competition. Frenchie is talented, Barba is not. Both Chris's, Blake, Brandon, Phil are all good, but Lakisha and Melinda are the ones to beat. Stephanie, Sabrina and God Bless little Jordin are the ones who should go on tour. They are also the ones who should be given record deals. It is not a color issue. It is a talent issue. I don't know who will win. Melinda is my favorite, but I love Lakiesha's attitude as much as her voice. I love her because talent or not, the best talent she has is being a great mother to her little girl and the girl can sing. Her relatives were adorable tonight. It is a talent issue, not a color issue. The prior seasons are just that, priors. I love Stephanie, Jordin and Sabrina and I would not care if the aforementioned people were pink with polka dots, I watch the show because of the talent. They have talent. I am totally blown away by the women. The only problem I have with the show is that I don't think it needs to be 6 women and 6 men. There are not 6 men who deserve to be in the finals. The women rock. Go Kaleisha and Melinda. You are my idols.
I think the blanket statement made in the article above is PROBABLY pretty close to what the AI producers are going by (If we know about your issue ahead of time, we'll take it on a case-by-case basis, but if if we're blindsided by the tabloids while you're on the show, you're going home.)however, I agree wholeheartedly -- the producers need to step up and acknowledge this issue and comment. I also think it's a shame that there's that insane rule about having an even amount of women and men. This is something that has bugged me since the first season of AI and I wondered what was going to happen when/if we were ever faced with a situation like we have this year. Such a shame that a show seeking talent sends home the talent they seek and keeps the "I Wanna Be On TV But I Can't Sing" contestants.
When you wrote this entry you overlooked on factor Ms. Davis consented to taking professional photos intended for pornographic purposes and was paid for it. Ms. Barba did not give permission or accept payment for her photos they were candid pictures taken by friends and the more graphic ones are fakes. The people at AI are not stupid, maybe you and some of the audience are not so bright. They now the past contestants they are aware of Ms Davis. And they know they are clearly within their legal rights this isn't an issue at all, it's stupidity.
