Simon has no words for Sanjaya

The singers on "American Idol" obviously want to hear good comments from every judge. But there's no question whose opinion means the most to them: Simon Cowell's. He may not be universally liked, but he's like the tough teacher feared by all the students. His respect is hard to earn, and it's worth all the more because of it. Paula will always find something nice to say, and Randy will usually join her, but hear a good word from Simon and the "Idols" know in their hearts that they've done well.

So what does it mean for two singers that Simon Cowell has simply refused to comment on their performances any more?

Simon pretty much gave up on Sanjaya Malakar last week, when the teen wore a fake Mohawk while singing No Doubt's "Bathwater." After half-heartedly attempting to address the hair, Simon said "I don't think it matters any more what we say, I genuinely don't. You are in your own universe and if people like you, good luck."

It seemed like this was just a one-off comment from Simon. But then this week, Sanjaya ditched the faux-hawk for slicked back hair and a white suit to sing old-time ballad "Cheek to Cheek." From his first note, he seemed off-key, but he gamely played his performance for all he was worth, even slow-dancing with Paula Abdul at the judges' table.

After he sang, it seemed that none of the judges wanted to discuss his singing. Randy Jackson said "I can't even comment on the vocals," refusing to explain why, and went on to praise Sanjaya for turning into a performer. Paula Abdul at least attempted to address the song, saying "the vocals were a little off at the beginning," but she, too, seemed at a loss for words and quickly retreated to thanking Sanjaya for dancing with her.

All eyes, now, were on Simon, and he seemed completely at a loss for words. "Let's try a different tactic this week: INCREDIBLE!" he said. He left it up to the viewers to determine whether he meant "incredibly bad," "incredible that you're still in this contest," or "I'm trying to make it sound like I'm praising you in hopes that reverse psychology will work its magic, here."

But now the other judges had decided that they'd found a new way to comment without really saying anything at all. Haley Scarnato, who's also struggled in the competition, was up next with a chanteusey performance of "Ain't Misbehaving" while wearing a tight, short green dress. Her performance, too, was weak vocally, but the judges still weren't willing to be honest. Randy Jackson did something he almost never does, which is immediately tried to pass the buck to Paula. Paula fell back on her "I'm the judge who always has something nice to say" schtick and praised Haley's dress.

At this point, Simon looked exasperated, though he really shouldn't have. At first he tried to scold the other judges, saying "That's rude, you should say what you think of the performance." But he started it, after all, by refusing to offer constructive criticism on Sanjaya's performance, and now he was reaping what he had sowed. He praised Haley's legs, as if he was trying to demonstrate how silly it was of Paula to praise her dress, but he just came off looking like a dirty old man. Finally he muttered something about Haley's performance being "pageanty."

The judges can refuse to comment on the singing if they want, despite Simon continually beating the drum about how "Idol" is a "singing competition." But as they sit there and mutter no-comments or compliment the Idols on their looks, they should remember one thing.

Sanjaya, Haley, all of them, were put through to the final 24 by Simon, Paula, and Randy's judgement alone. The viewers, whose opinions Simon has so roundly criticized these days, had nothing to do with it. The choice of the semifinalists was all on the judges' shoulders, and they need to face up to that now and take responsibility. Even if, as Simon's worst nightmare would seem to be, Sanjaya wins. Just remember: Simon put him there.

i agree with Beverly Gobeli that all the contestants are great. kudos to all of them. people who talk so much negative about those contestants, tell them to sing in front of a big crowd and see how they sing. so think before you say anything. try it yourself and than speak. congratulations to all of them. all are winners. singh, fremont ca
I have a 13, 10 and 4 year old. This is one show that I can let them watch without adult supervision. My family has enjoyed American Idol for the last 4 years. It is ashame that there are people out there that are trying to ruin the show by voting for the worst. One of my daughters takes singing lessons and after years of hearing different voices, I can pick out certain things. The judges do the same and their comments are genuine. I agree with them 99% of the time. I really feel bad for the people who are trying to ruin this show because they truely need a life.
I have been a long time Idol fan. However, this year, I don't care who wins or who goes home. I still watch, but for the same reason you slow down to look at an accident.....
I believe that it is true that this is a popularity contest. Thus far Sanjaya is the most popular with a huge young girl fan base. At this point though, I don't believe that it matters. Melinda Doolittle is by far the best singer, perhaps better than most of the previous winners. I believe though that with someone of her calibur, she might be better off if she doesn't win, this way she can get a contract the day she is voted off and not have to deal with being under contract to Simon for the next year. The winner is irrelevent. It is still a very entertaining show. I love it.
I used to enjoy watching American Idol, But alas no more. I believe the show Has lost the integrity it once had. I don't blame the judges in full they chose those with potential, and as humans they make mistakes. This year it seems as though it's not about the best singer, I don't know why but it seams more about some trying to destroy something they personally don't like. Instead of turning the channel some have taken it upon themselves to try and ruin others enjoyment. Trying to force others to conform to what they think is good to watch / read / listen to / to think or act, to be mindless puppets. I thought that "BOOK BURNING " was a thing of the past. This years show appears to have been vandalised, some seem to have taken enjoyment out of marring others enjoyment. Then again ...the publicity this Controversy has generated has probably raised the shows "ratings" could this all be a well orchestrated event planned by the show it's self? Time might tell
it seems like sanjaya has begun to think that he's a superstar, but unfortunately, he will forever be a joke... and if he ends up making some money, i fear he'll just blow it all on parties and designer haircuts, work for a little while on some d-list "celebrity" reality shows, and end up working at the mall in about 5 years.
I am reading all message forums about idol and i find mostly people hate this kid. Dislike his singing is one thing and hating is another. It is a borderline you can't cross. Most people visiting the websites are white people. If the sanjaya kid would have been a 100% white instead of semi white , people would have made him super hero. He is after all semi brown boy and look of indian kid. It is alien to many people who is watching the show. Hate is coming from people who think american idol is about blacks and whites. People normally laugh at bad singers if they are bad. Only in this occasion white people universally (who runs the media) started to create this extreme negativity about this kid. It is kind of gang culture. And now people want to change the voting system. They want to move the goal post because they do not like a semi brown boy might win this white/black american idol contest. AI voting is about create positive energy. More votes means people worship someone so much that they will do anything for them. Those are the people who will buy idol cd. For me sanjaya malakar is not bad as everyone claims him to be or he is good. He is just 17 year old kid whose voice is in the process of changing. The kid is trying hard with every chance he get. America should appreciate the kids guts intstead of hating him. Myonly problem with the kid is that he is gayish. And finally howard stern is another vulture who wants to scavange. He has no influence but he got aperfect target in sanjaya in that what he is doing is racism. Sanjaya was top 4 vote getter before VFTW even start to support him. It is covinient for VFTW to support people who have votes already so they can say they are the one influencing the show. Pathetic low level people. I like howard stern atrocious shows but not in this issue. His presence in sanjaya issue started to create extreme negativity and racisim.
I believe American Idol HAS become more of a popularity contest than a Singing talent contest and THAT IS WRONG!! Sanjaya should not have come as far as he has ... There were many better before him getting voted off. I boycot this show!!! Its a joke!
Yes, I heard Sanjaya's comment after Simon's comment. All I could do was laugh - this poor, naive, misguided fool. All I can say to the kid is best of luck. Hollywood is gonna eat him up and then spit him out. He's too young to even comprehend the reality of it all... I don't envy his position. That kind of notoriety is enough to destroy the best of the best...
The real star seems to be Sanjaya's hairdresser. That person is the catalyst that made Sanjaya famous and kept everyone tuning in to the show to see what he would look like next. The hairdresser should win some type of award...do they have an Emmy for catapulting a cute kid into a preeminent personality?
Every week the number of overall votes remains roughly a constant of 31 million. Let's say that Sanjaya garners 7 million of those votes from Stern's audience, VoteForTheWorst.com, and even family, friends, and (gulp?) fans. And suppose the other eight split the remaining 24 million (plus or minus per any individual). One of them WILL go home. But, Sanjaya's support will remain roughly the same 7 million whereas the remaining 24 million will be divided amoung fewer and fewer (better) singers. At some point Sanjaya WILL BE the low vote getter and be off the show. So don't lose heart. There can only be one winner and it won't be Sanjaya!
The judges and producers do the top 24 for entertainment value and marketability not just vocal ability.
Beverly Gobeli, you've said it best! I agree with you wholeheartedly.
I havent watched much of american idol, but what really caught my attention about a couple of these posts was the fact that those people were that they thought Sanjaya should back out and say, I can't sing lets let someone who can sing win this thing. #1 He probably thinks he can sing or he wouldnt have come on the show in the first place and and making it this far probably convinces him even more that he can sing. #2 If it was you on your way to being american idol, and america kept voting for you and you were in the spotlight of fame and also getting alot of money, would you back out??? I know i wouldnt.
I find it funny that people are just now getting a bit miffed about the sub level of talent on this show. C'mon, do you really believe these people are the best vocalists to be found and that they have worked hard and paid their dues musically? This kind of schlock just gags me.
Well I for one vote for Sanjaya every week! Is he the best singer, no. Is he a better performer than everyone else on that show, in my opinion yes he is. Be it the crazy hair styles he comes up with every week, or his stage presence there’s something about Sanjaya that both my wife and I really like. My wife and I are part of the vote for the worst crowd but that doesn’t mean we vote for Sanjaya just to try and ruin American Idol (there’s nothing to ruin, the show makes a mockery out of musical talent). We vote for Sanjaya over and over because he’s entertaining to watch, not like the other contestants on the show who generally appear boring and drab. Being a musical entertainer myself for over 20 years I know what works well and what people like. The song selections this year almost each week have been weak and soft, not to mention very dull. How many times do we have to watch these semi-talented people sing another “safe” ballad for the crowd? At least when Sanjaya sings these terrible songs, he gives us something to look at, and talk about. You may hate him but like it or not he is creating his own buzz with his wardrobe and hair choices as well as an “I don’t give a crap attitude” that he’s seemed to have adopted over the last few weeks. He’s fired back at Simon which was great, twice now actually. No other contestant this season has rocked a performance like Sanjaya did with the Kinks “You Really Got Me”. This performance was great not only because of Sanjaya’s choice of attire but because he did something no one else this season has done nor do I believe they can do, throw caution to the wind, put some attitude into a song that isn’t meant for an elevator ride and just go for it. Sanjay’s vocals aren’t the best on American Idol this season by any means but he can sing. He’s very young and inexperienced at this point. He’s soft spoken and that translates over to his vocal style. True he is outclassed by some of the other singers in this popularity/voting contest but he far out does the competition each week because he is a performer and the attitude he’s been carrying recently gives the kid an edge over everyone else. Let me put it this way to make it easier to understand. If I was going to pay to go see one of this years American Idol hopefuls play a live show somewhere who would I choose to spend my hard earned cash on? Blake? No way….while he does have a decent voice he’s far too trendy and banks on that each week. I don’t even know his last name now and I watch the show each week. Will I or anyone else for that matter remember his first name in say 10 years…Probably not. How about Lakisha or Melinda? I don’t remember Lakisha’s last name and well Mellinda’s I do only because it’s not a very common last name. Both of these women are good vocalists…….good vocalist’s not good entertainers. Sure I could shell out some cash to watch a live performance by either one of these people but it’d be a night full of ballads, down tempo songs that would ultimately put me to sleep. As I stated before I’m a big fan and watch each week because the show is very entertaining solely to see what the judges will say and to see what Sanjaya is going to do and how he’s going to sound, not for anyone else. This is where my money would go. A live performance by Sanjaya obviously wouldn’t be a strong vocal performance but I’d be willing to bet there’d be some crazy cool costumes, lighting and smoke effects, and a lot more to keep you entertained and interested. See this is my point. Sanjaya isn’t a great vocalist but neither are people like Blake, Lakeshia, or even Melinda. Sure they’re good, but they certainly are great or extraordinary by any stretch of the imagination. What Sanjaya is however is a good fun entertainer and performer who goes all out each week to get votes and be it because he’s not the most vocally talented contestant or be it because people really like him he’s getting those votes. Before we became supporters of Vote For The Worst my wife and I watched the show each week as we do now. To laugh at all the contestants, there’s half assed “safe” emotionless performances and talk about how no one will know who any of these people are in say 10 years time…..20 years for sure. Yes, we love reality television and that’s what this is…..it is not by any means a show that has every showcased real talent. American Idol looks for and promotes an image and a specific style that caters mainly to a teenage, female listening audience. This season is no different and that’s another reason I love Sanjaya. He is everything American Idol stands against. An awkward performer, who doesn’t fit the mold, has ok to decent vocal ability, and who does crazy things each week. Look at all the attention he’s garnished by doing what he does! Sure Howard Stern and votefortheworst.com help Sanjaya survive but you’ve got to give the kid some credit for doing what he does because it is bringing in votes each week. Keep it up Sanjaya, you’re great because it appears that you don’t give a crap what the people at American Idol think, what anyone thinks and your performance each week is great. It takes more than musical/vocal ability to make it and stay popular in today’s music world……..go Sanjaya! Summing it up, the majority of people in this world still know who the Beatles , the Rolling Stones, and Ozzy Osbourne are. No one in any of these groups/acts where great, fantastic vocalists (yes the Beatles sang well) but they all were talented because they write or wrote their own music, played their own musical instruments and just like Sanjaya created buzz around themselves by using controversy as a tool. Sure these groups are not in the spotlight of popularity anymore but they still sell records and in some cases sell out live shows. No one on American Idol could do this 10, 20, or even 30 years down the line. Not going to happen but I really believe that Sanjaya could follow suit if he sticks to his guns and keeps on going. Using one of my favorite bands, Kiss as an example, I’d like to point out that they are neither vocally or with their instruments, the most talented entertainers out there but 35 years later, they still sell records and still have people paying to see live shows. Why, because they are fun to watch and to listen to…..all attitude and show. Yes it is important to play your instrument or use your voice well but it’s even more important to put on a good show!
I keep saying week after week that I will not watch the show if Sanjaya stays, but week after week i keep watching, hoping that he will just suddenly not be there. It is sooo unfortunate that people have been voted off before him, like Stephanie & Chris Sligh, not to say they are the best but come on, they were WAY better than him. The kid really gets on my nerves. American Idol needs to take over and do something about America being able to vote, maybe the judges should do the voting off till it gets down to the last 2 or 3and then we vote because this is nothing but a joke now. I can definetley say that if he wins, I WILL NOT WATCH next season!
Sanjaya...........pathetic! As others have said, this looks to be the downward spiral of the program that I once loved.
I would have rather seen Haleys legs than all of that cleavage on Lakisha. Is this not suppose to be a family show with talented singers? I watch with my young son and after last night, I don't think he will be watching anymore, he is far to young for me to start explaining what it (cleavage) is!! I think Lakisha is the BEST on the show and her talent should be enough to win this thing. And will someone please start voting for anyone but Sanjaya....American Idol will be tarnished forever if he even makes it to the top 2.
Well, I guess this shows that the voting isn't rigged. Otherwise, it would be so easy for Sanjaya to leave....
I am a musician and I find American Idol too insulting to watch. This has got to be the worst American Idol season ever! There is absolutly no one on the show that has unique singing abilities (well, maybe one or two...)The Judges has got to do a better job of selecting talent next season and stay away from the strange....
I laugh at all of the comments about the judges being too harsh. For all you people living in happy land, wake up. If they cant handle the minor negative comments from the judges, than they will never last in the music industry. Seriously...are you people out there for real? Haha especially the ones defending Sanjaya...the kid has america wrapped around his finger. He is as sly as a fox. Just watch...every time he finishes his song he looks into the camera and gives off a smug grin. Vote for Blake...not that it matters, he will be just like Chris Daughtry..he will get ripped, and then he will dominate the charts. Taylor who?....no, wait...Melinda who? America is so predictable.
American Idol has a formula for success that has worked season after season for six years now and a younger, less talented male singer always seems to be one component in that formula. Although it seems to have been exaggerated this year by the "vote for the worst" group and Howard Stern's antics, the show still captures a world wide audience and entertains it every week. It's fun to read everyone's comments as they express their outrage and support. So many people here not watching the show but taking the time to post comments. It's amazing really and..... just so much fun. Thanks everyone for participating in this totally meaningless but interesting phenomenon that has become such a large part of the American pop culture.
I'm with TraciB. I too watched "Deadliest Catch" and it was awesome! Real men doing a real job...fascinating compared to this year's Idol. I am done with Idol this season. I dont need this Sanjaya/teenybopper/hair ridiculousness when I can watch a show with a little more meat to it.
It is not a singing competition now, it's who Stern tells his "people" to vote for (the worst). Just to make a point. If Stern hates the show, don't watch it but let the rest of the nation who enjoy it watch it in peace. Apparently he has nothing better to do then to behave like an idiot.
The people of America vote for the their favorite performer and the winner becomes the American Idol. If Sanjaya wins this thing, the people have spoken. A Star is born..is that not what American Idol is all about? Stop whining and playing the BLAME GAME if your favorite got canned..don't blame the voting system..others are getting through with their vote in the allotted time. From Teeny-boppers to 80 year olds; we all represent the American people..would you have it any other way?
i have never watched the show...but want to now with all this publicity about Sanjaya.....and if Sanjaya gets voted off...I will stop watching the show again....
Other than Melinda and Jordin, this is the worst bunch of singers so far on any season. And drab personalities to boot. That is why Sunjaya is still on the show. The fact is this is not just a singing contest - it is a performance contest.
The "worst" have never made it to the final four on any Idol show since season one to now. If Sanjaya is as bad as everyone says he won't make it to the final four either. But if he isn't as bad as you think then maybe he will make it into the final four or better. People want to be entertained and Sanjaya is entertaining. Maybe Chris can sing better but I look forward to seeing what Sanjaya is going to do and that is in contrast to the fact I never think anything in advance of Chris's performance, or Gina's, or Phil's, or most of the ones already voted off. On the other hand I look forward to Blake, Jordin, Haley, and, yes, Sanjaya. Now one thing is for sure -- even if Sanjaya wins Idol I predict Blake, Melinda, LaKisha, and maybe one or two of the others will get contracts and the others will get more airplay and more sales than Sanjaya even if he wins -- kind of like the Rueben / Clay thing -- but Sanjaya is here to stay even if it's only as a replacement for the William Hung sideshow.
Judges being negative is one thing. That is ok. What makes me mad is the amount of negativity the american media spew on this young kid is horrible. It is borderline racist because he is not black or white. He is not a bad singer as everyone claims to be. He is average. I amy not like the kids voice but i started to like this kids guts and ttry tod o his best. Thats all you can ask for. I believe his voice in American idol is bad. His song sweet chariot in www.youtube.com sound far far better.
I quit watching after the joke of Taylor Hicks winning it all last year!! It rocks to see Chris doing the best for he should have won it but oh well I will not watch it anymore. I do keep up with it on the web so I can see for myself the reasons I don't watch it anymore.. Now all I have to do is keep trying to convince my wife that its time has passed. After this season though I don't think that will be neccesary!!
This is my first season watching American Idol. I have heard about it from others ever since the first season, but was never inspired to even see what it was about. I thought it was just like the old show, Ted Mack's amateur hour or The Gong Show. (Not too far from that premise). Finally I decided to watch it this season. I am sure I will not devote myself to this show for a whole season next year. Once you watch it from the beginning of a season, then you are hooked to see what happens. I honestly think its very unbalanced with the range of talent displayed among the contestants. Melinda is just right out there on top of everyone with every performance. She is a downright pro and miles ahead of everyone else and they don't have a chance to catch up. Even Blake, as good as I think he is, cannot top Melinda. And then you have the bottom feeders like Sanjaya, who resorts to the ridiculous to get attention and votes, and Hayley, showing bare legs to get attention and votes. And even if Sanjaya makes it; Simon is not going anywhere unless the show is cancelled. He makes too much money to give that up. Anybody who thinks he gives a rat's behind who actually wins American Idol is kidding themselves. It's all about the money. To comment on the mention in a previous post about Lakisha's cleveage: much rather see her cleveage than her legs as she revealed in the one performance when she wore a mini. Not a pretty sight.
Well,as Simon always says, this is a singing competition! That would put Sanjaya out. It's not a beauty competition,so Haley needs to go as well! This season is really a bad one, so what's to happen to those contestants who can actually sing?
Maybe it wasn't bad taste by the judges...all the contestants got thru by singing without a band...maybe Sanjaya just need to sing acapella (sp) so that he can show everyone WHY they put him thru...with the band, I can't even really hear the kid but I do give him props for sticking it out and enjoying every minute of it!!
What I don't like is the fact that Sanjaya is still on the show and other people with actual talent are being kicked off. I'm not saying that the people who were kicked off would necessarily being the next American Idol but they are all alot better than Sanjaya.
This is the first year for me watching American Idol and I watched the last show I will ever watch last week, What a joke! Wheres the focus on TALENT!
I think it's hilarious how much energy you guys put into worrying about American Idol being a great show. Who cares who wins anyway? Good for Sanjaya for sticking it out this long. I think it would be funny to see him win just to rile up all you people getting high blood pressure over the show. But he’s going to get voted out sooner or later, so just chill out and wait for him to get voted off. And if they really want to fix American Idol, maybe they shouldn’t let people vote as many times as they want just so they can say “oh, we got 50million votes today! What a popular show!” or when Taylor Hicks got voted the next American Idol they said to him “you got more votes than any president ever did!” but in reality he only got a couple million votes from people voting 50 times each. So, Go Sanjay! Actually I hope Blake wins because he is the most interesting thing that has happened to this show.
I believe that Sanjaya should drop out of the competition. I don't believe he will because the guy is clueless. He should be ashamed of himself for being in a singing competition and paying more attention to what his hair looks like. He doesn't focus on the singing, listen to advice, or try to actually sing the songs. Go away please!
Lets face it Sanjaya is a showman and isn't that what show business is all about. All these contestants have guts. May the best man or woman win.
The reason that fool with no vocals is so popular is because regardless if he has talent, people keep speaking of him (everywhere). Simon is right not to comment on his talent, he has none. If it wasn't for the mic we would not be able to hear a word of what he's trying to sing. And he is becoming a bit to cocky for a no talent long hair child. He needas to respect those who can actually teach him something. get a clue you know who.
American Idol is a great opportunity for someone to achive their dream! As we have seen in the past many finalists have received record deals and success. What is going to happen to Sanjaya? If he continues to go on because of people voting to mess up Idol, all you have done was to destroy someones life and dreams. He may not be good enough now but he is young and can try again. Another opportunity you are taking away. Anyone taking part in this should get a life of their own and mess with that.
ah well, what can one say? American Idol is only a show. Sanjaya's pretty brave to get on stage and then take all the insults. It can't be fun to be so hated by so many. It only proves that not only are kids bullying kids, but so are adults. Shame on us. We are in a time when we should know better. Haven't we learned anything? At least the one thing we have learned is that even if you are voted off early doesn't mean great things can't happen for you...look at Jennifer Hudson. So don't fret...it's only a show. Let's just hope that these kid's future is bright.
Blame the producers and judges for the mess this show has become. During those boring months of comic auditions, they emphasize the jokes and recruit them for ratings, pass them onto Hollywood thinking more people will watch. Additionally, they sign up orofessionals & semi-professionals, robbing the show of its original quest--to find an amateur gem. They can't have it all ways.
I only watched seasons 4 and 5, and I doubt they will find talent better than Carrie Underwood and Bo Bice. They kinda lost me last season, and this season I haven't watched at all - I just come to this site to read the comments. I have better things to do with my time than watch AI -- it has gone downhill so fast it's unbelievable. The show has become a joke and I don't think it will last more than one more season if things continue as they are . . . untalented contestants (for the most part) and only one judge who truly knows what he's talking about and makes any sense (Simon). Bye-bye, Idol!
Another week and Sanjaya is still here!!!! Bad, bad, bad. The teeny boppers should have their cell phones confiscated during American Idol. This is a "singing contest" guys.
For Scott: If you're looking for a comedy show vote, turn the channel. When someone resorts to so many gimmicks to continue to get votes, he obviously lacks talent. Yes, the performance counts as much as the voice quality. However, Sanjaya could pull of getting just as much applause in a circus. It should be OVERALL talent that gets your vote. Not just another "William Hung" who got his 15 minutes of fame and disappeared.
I am more or less in with the larger percentage of the posters today. I really enjoyed AI 1&2, but it began to make a fast slide down hill for me from 3. I also believe that all the bad mouthing of the contestants (past and present), the insulting comments, and actually very hurtful comments made in this post because of one guy who clearly does not have any talent is actually very sad, and it portrays us in a very dark and ugly light. We have the ability to vote this young man off or we could sit around and gripe about his performance or his appearance. If you feel someone is voting 50 times to keep him, vote 50 times to send him home. If you don't like what's going on, don't watch it. I personally stopped watching after the 3rd week. Yes, I voted for Sanjaya for my 13-year-old as she actually adored him (hint..hint..possible reason for staying power), but even she has now grown tired of him, yes the teen-boppers are getting tired of him as well -- because she has seen past his "cute smile" and wants to see if he can really sing. She generally will let me know who is doing what as I am busy with another show or whatever. But people, listen up, let's stop the bashing and the name calling of people. Think of how you would feel if you read one of these posts about yourself. There is no REASON to be mean. That includes the remarks about Clay, Rueben, Fantasia, Taylor, Lakisha and even Sanjaya. I'm not saying handle them with kid gloves, but let's show some respect here, some love for your fellow man. Let's act like the human beings we are and not the animals we can be or in some cases have become. I say if he wins, it was meant to be, if he doesn't it too was meant to be. I personally wish them all the best no matter what their talents and/or dreams may be.
I have been a die hard Idol fan since season one. I have now stopped watching the show at all and will not watch it again until the Hair is off th show.
Alex, to try and turn this into a race issue is completely wrong. It has nothing to do with Sanjaya's race. Do you remember Kevin Covias? Or John Stevens? Both white guys who could not sing either and stayed way past their expiration date. Also, when you say you don't like him because he is gayish? That happens to be a hate filled emotion as well, so that makes you no better than the people you are dissing for being racist.
The three judges (Simon, Randy & Paula) should have some autonomy in the program to have a final say about a performer. Sanjaya has no stage presence - ok maybe he can sing a little but he has no sex appeal and offers nothing to the American public that I would ever pay to see him on a stage. He doesn't present himself on stage as a performer. The YOUNG MAN HAS GOT TO GO. Wake up America!!!
