Marshmallow Peep Mania

On Wednesday's "South Park," which somehow managed to roll up the trappings of Easter with a mystery out of "The DaVinci Code," Marshmallow Peeps made an important appearance. While trying to keep ninjas (!) from killing Stan, the Leigh Teabing character from "DaVinci" puts a box of Peeps in the microwave. They expand, and expand, and finally EXPLODE, sending marshmallowy goo out all the windows and doors of his mansion. Just like real life!

Anyway, Will over at Clicked reminded me that I usually post a batch of Marshmallow Peep links as Easter approaches, and so here goes. (See, people? Not EVERY post is about "American Idol," just ALMOST every post.)

• Online Peep games: Play Peep Invaders or Peepstroids.

• Easter meets Passover: Marshmallow Peeps suffer from the 10 plagues in Egypt.

• Wham-o now offers a Make Your Own Peep machine. MSNBCer Gary Krakow tried it out in 2005, and Matt of the wonderful X-Entertainment demonstrates it here. I think I'll stick to buying premade Peeps, especially after seeing Matt's results.

• Peeps meet Tolkien: "Lord of the Peeps."

• We're pretty accustomed to office pranks around here, but this is the best: Someone covered a co-worker's office in Peeps. The page notes that, even six months later, people were coming by and eating the old Peeps off the ceiling.

• Get your microwave ready for Peep Jousting.

• Here's an oldie but a goodie: Peep Research. I have trouble looking at these photos because I feel so sorry for the l'il guys. The Peeps' bretheren, the Marshmallow Bunnies, are not left out -- this site features them being cruelly tortured.

• A photo tour: 50 Peeps visit the home of the Peep factory. Also: A neon Peep.

• Peeps are an educated lot. Here they take a tour of a college library.

• And finally, a review of a snack I have yet to find: A hollow chocolate Easter egg with a Peep center.

Happy Peeping, all!

You can get the Peeps inside the hollow chocolate eggs at Target stores. Was tempted to buy one!
Did not realize the extent of the marshmallow mania.I especially enjoyed Lord of the Peeps.I also recall a TV show-Mr.Peeps.
Here's your chocolate-covered Peep! http://www.nostalgiccandy.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=750
The Peeps visiting the library is probably one of the better things I've seen all week, not only because it reminds me of my own college library experiences, but because I'm now trying to figure out how to fit Peeps into a training I got roped into giving here at the office. Peep misadventures could certainly break up the monotony of the usual Power Point.
I've seen the hollow egg with the Peep center at Target--try there.
All comments in this section are NOT about 'American Idol', but now let's suppose that the next batch of Peeps resembles Sanjaya. (What would it mean???) Perish the thought. Let's hope Peeps creates 'Little Bo Peeps' figures, instead.
I actually had one today. It was rather good especially since I like my peeps on the stale side.
Hey, you left out my Peep-related invention! :) Last Easter, I made a giant cannon that shoots Peeps. It's called the Peepinator 3000. Here are the links to my three blog posts about it: http://raptorgirl.livejournal.com/391144.html http://raptorgirl.livejournal.com/391236.html http://raptorgirl.livejournal.com/391641.html The year before that, I did my own Peeps research: http://raptorgirl.livejournal.com/316897.html http://raptorgirl.livejournal.com/317047.html I've been too busy to really come up with anything new for this year, so I'm going to use my baking skills to make some Peeps confections. I'm attempting Peeps S'mores and either a cake or cupcakes decorated with Peeps.
I got two pairs of cute Peeps footie socks at the local Big Lots store and one pair has little chicks that pop up from the heel tops! Cute, cute, cute! And calorie free!
The DVD of "The Dork of the Rings" (www.dorkoftherings.com) contains an extra short entitled "Lord of the Peeps." :)

I've only seen Peeps at Easter. When will we see Peeps for the other holiday season (trying to be PC here)?
To G in Chino Valley Az. Do you have a Walgreen's close by? Peeps come out for just about anything! I see them there all the time!
Hey, G. They may not be true, chick-like Peeps, but Just Born, the official Peep-makers, do offer seasonally shaped .. ummm ... products at different times of the year -- pink hearts at Valentine',s orange pumpkins at Halloween, green Christmas trees in December. I once dried out the Christmas trees, sprayed them with preservative and attached ribbons at the top to make Christmas ornaments. Of course, I've also hidden the chick Peeps around our office building as a (hopefully) pleasant surprise for whoever finds them. Honestly, you can't go wrong with Peeps. I'm actually using a batch of purple chicks right now to torment a coworker. Try that with a Hershey's Kiss.
