Ring around the Rosie

Rosie O'Donnell is leaving "The View," but those who can't stand her shouldn't celebrate too much. On today's gabfest, she announced "I love you guys, I'm not going away," promising that while she wouldn't be on the show every day, she'd be making regular visits. "They're not kicking me out, don't worry!" she said.

I don't think anyone was worried about Rosie. If she's proven one thing on her tenure on "The View," it was that no one could boss Rosie around, no one could make her do anything she didn't want to do. She wanted a one-year contract, reportedly, ABC wanted three, and Rosie's not going to budge on what she wanted.

I'm not a regular watcher of "The View," due to a chronic allergy to happy talk in the morning. Rosie almost alleviated my allergy, injecting a delightful bit of venom into the girl-power gab.

Sure, much of the attention was given to the fact that her politics were almost mirror opposites of those of perky Elisabeth Hasselbeck, which did make for some humorous confrontations. (Rosie almost had a heart attack this morning when Hasselbeck misspoke and said she thought Dick Cheney would be a good candidate for president -- Hasselbeck meant to say John McCain.) But politics aside, Rosie at least kept things lively, even if her feuds, especially with Donald Trump, were childish and annoying.

A new online commentary in Newsweek claims that O'Donnell's real persona, as reflected in her Weblog, is more sensitive and easily hurt than the brash image she put forth on "The View." I can buy some of that -- who hasn't known someone whose public image differed greatly than their real life? -- but if you're going to trumpet your opinions as loudly and sarcastically as Rosie often did, you'd better have the toughest skin you can.

Sometimes Rosie said what viewers were thinking, sometimes she said what only Rosie was thinking. But she never was afraid to have an opinion, never afraid to throw it out there and defend it once she'd said it. "The View" would do well to pick up another host who has that same attitude, whatever their political opinions and lifestyle. It would be easy to find someone who can fly under the radar and utter opinions that no one disagrees with, but what fun is that?

Rosie, i will definitely miss you at THE VIEW. I missed you at the Rosie O'Donnell show. Where will i see, watch and hear you now?
If everyone is so concerned about having "viewpoints" expressed on The View, why isn't someone with a viewpoint opposite Rosie's put on there now? I would venture that The View's viewer base would greatly increase. Hasselbeck could not possibly have been considered even a semi-equal match to ol' "Shout-down" Rosie- which is why she's probably there: appeasement to the Right, but not informed or assertive enough to make a decent argument. Everyone loves Freedom of Speech... until they don't agree with what's being said. Oh, and Nathan, I'm in the "criticizing" group. My grammar and spelling are correct. I guess you'll have to find a new bigotry, since your prejudice against "sleepy" conservatives seems to have been proven wrong. Since you don't watch Fox (which is just a news station with less liberal bias) and you seem to not know any conservatives, maybe you should seek a little more truth in your own diet, instead of relying on what everyone else tells you.
I LOVE ROSIE!!!!! I personally will miss the controversy and laughs she brought to "THE VIEW". She brought many issues up, that people need to think about in some context or another. Yes sometimes HER views didn't agree with the main population but like they say, its HER opinion. I think Rosie is refreshing and honest which is what some of us can only hope to be. No matter where she ends up, I will look forward to watching what she does best..... Getting the people talking.
In this world of political correctness it is refreshing to see someone like Rosie who, whether it means losing her job or being unpopular, stands up for what she believes. I think this is the true definition of personal integrity and character. I do not always agree with that Rosie has to say, but I love her spunk and will miss hearing her points of view. I only hope she is not replaced by a puppet, who measures every word that is spoken to insure that no one person or group is offended. Good luck, Rosie!
As for my house, we have never seen the value of the "entertainment" presented by Rosie O'Donnell. It is a wise move on the network to move on without her. The show may regain some of the viewers it once had.
The problem I have with Rosie is that when your "View" disagreed with her "View" she cut you off and belittled you. I don't mind dissenting opinions, but if you want to be heard, you have to let others have their say as well. Elisabeth deserves a raise for putting up with that.
i love rosie, will miss the spunk she brings to all.
Intersting. I have not seen a single reference to the most "outrageous" assertion Rosie's made, no doubt the reason for her excommunication: that there's something wrong with the official story of how WTC 7 collapsed. Imagine!! Someone actually having the courage to ask a simple question to which no satisfactory answer has ever been given. You go, girl!
I love Rosie and will miss her. She brought a different View to the show which was the concept from the beginning. We don't ALL have the same views on the world and it was about time somone put Elisabeth in her place. I heard a rumor that Roseanne Barr might be a replacement.....I would love it if that were true!!!
Rosie I will miss you. We need you to give the other side of Oreilly, Hannity and Rush. Hope you come back soon. Take care. Chuck
Oh PLEASE!!!! If you have to have a slug like Rosie challenge your comfort zone, you are too deep into the zone. She is a pig. Foul mouth, hateful and spews filth through that huge mouth of hers. She just likes to stir up trouble, she never has a solution she only wants to aggrevate those who are trying. She disgust me. We are having a going away party, not FOR Rosie, but BECAUSE of Rosie. I am thrilled she's leaving. Meredith V. certainly did an amazing job as host of that show, Rosie will never be in the same league as the women on that show. She's much, much, much, much LOWER>
Rational, coherent, meaningful, and civil discussions to present varying perspectives from disparate persons---of course! But having this character with chronically vile behavior gone from the scene, perhaps the world will be one quantum more tolerable for you, your significant other, and for your children.
I'm not from the USA but because you are who you are, news gets around. I'm actually surprised that this is newsworthy in your country. There is an obvious split in your society on what you like and dislike or should I say 'who' you like and dislike. You get very personal and demeaning with name calling. How could humans treat eachother this way and the bigger question is why would you want to? This is what your children have as examples? God help your country mend together because you act like you're falling apart!
I agree with "A" and I was born in the USA. If you don't like the show Rosie was on you have the option to turn it off. I don't dislike any of the "shock jocks" but at times I don't agree with them. I just turn off what I don't want to see or hear! Also, the people that said that Rosie got kicked off of the View-----How do you know that for sure? Get a life people with the negative words!!!!!
"God help your country mend together because you act like you're falling apart! " George Bush took care of that 7 years ago. I'm not sure if anybody can put the country back together after this administration. "She will never be someone whether as a celebrity or as a US citizen who is worth an ounce of the freedom of speech that is taken for granted by people like her. Good Riddance!! " Why shouldn't free speech be taken for granted? I fail to understand your logic. "Everyone loves Freedom of Speech... until they don't agree with what's being said." Sometimes people say things that make me sick, but I wholeheartedly stand behind their right to say it. Recently, a young man in Boulder, CO was arrested for saying he could understand how someone could snap and kill 32 people (in reference to the VA TECH shooting). Yes, ARRESTED. FOR TALKING. Freedom of speech? Does it really exist?
Rosie is a comedian? Could've fooled me. Sarah Silverman can kick her butt any day
Look how many posts there are! I have never seen an episode of The View but have enjoyed the controverseys Rosie created. Unfortunately, we are in a very dangerous cycle in our country where we seem to want to shoot the messengers of words that we do not agree with. I hope that Rosie finds a platform for her views as, like Imus before he was silenced, she spurs talk, debate and thought. Added thought about the Imus thing. He was fired because of the advertisers backed away from NBC. Interesting that Proctor and Gamble, the manufacturer of Tide, was one of the first to vocally pull away. This happened a few weeks after Imus' wife launched her non toxic laundry detergent and Don had been naming Tide as a product that was unhealthy for the environment and humans. Hmmm.
Dee: Just because she tried to "persuade the viewers to feel and believe what she felt and believed" does not mean they were obligated or forced to do so. Where's the harm in spirited discourse? It's also telling that you do not say the same about Elizabeth Hasselbeck.
When Rosie came on The View, I stopped watching, but did peek in once in awhile. Before long, I was watching the first 15 minutes, and then the first 1/2 hour. Didn't always agree with Rosie, but she certainly got me into checking her facts and informing myself of circumstances I had ignored, missed, or just hadn't seen in the "regular" media. Although I'm not a Rosie fan; I'm certainly better informed because of her challenging my thinking -- and, evidently, lots of other people. We can find people who read the news on any TV or radio system; where are the thinkers?? (Even those who don't think like us???)
Rosie is the loud, funny, intelligent, confident, well-read, representative for millions of us in our society. The fact that she actually expresses "her VIEW" makes those that disagree feel uncomfortable. Rosie is an example of what makes America great....free speech. Those that want to silence her are the ones that we should all fear. The sheep that allow the government to dictate their lives to them and yet blindly follow these so-called leaders need to receive a blood transfusion from Rosie in hopes that it would give them some stones to begin thinking for themselves. Wake Up America! Rosie may not be the "package" that the old, uptight, wealthy, whitebread men in DC want to see creating intelligent debate amongst the rest of the world, but thank goodness for the rest of us, even though she has chosen to leave The View, I seriously doubt that this move will muzzle her. I'm sure that trash-talking men like Trump and O'Reilly are disappointed that she is leaving. How else will they get their ratings? Rosie, I hope you do whatever the hell you want to do, when you want to do it. Do it LOUD! Do it PROUD! Do it knowing that you have our support 100%! You Go Girl!

The ratings for The View will plummet with her absence. I, for one, will probably not watch after her departure. Rosie shoved the show from vapid girly-girl conversation that sometimes veered onto real topics into a topical, real, intelligent conversation among women. A show such as that is sorely lacking on television and sadly, probably will be again with her exit. ABC is making a mistake not accepting the one-year contract and shows that they're not wholly supportive of Rosie, despite their comments otherwise.
Controversy brings ratings. I really hate to say it but it is true. It is like riding down a highway and seeing a bad car accident. Are you going to drive away? Of course not. You will a) want to know what happened, and b)if anyone is alive and needs a medic or is dead Rosie brought controversy to the table even if her views were one sided and her behavior was immature at times. However, with regards to Trump, she is a comic. Poking fun at people is what they do. But she can go a bit overboard.
Rosie gone from the View? That's not a surprise! But Donald Trump gone from anything he can put his "not so pretty face" on would be worth partying over! Rosie was on the view and I loved the movie she made as the retarded bus rider (forget the name of it) but Donald Trump should find a planet that he can take over. Obviously Earth doesn't need to revolve around him.
I just wish "The View" represented more views. It seems to be Joy, Barbara, and Rosie versus Elizabeth. I wonder if my "view" is underrepresented because they represent what Hollywood believes. And I am from hometown America. It makes me feel that I am the minority, but maybe more of you agree with my view than "The View" represents. Additionally, I don't have a problem with opposing viewpoints. I appreciate that they make me think. But I do ask for RESPECT. I think most of the time, Rosie lacked that. She monopolized the conversation most of the time and she is crass. (Merideth was always classy, but still made me think.) If I was having a debate, I would at least treat others with respect and give them time to speak. Let's face it, "The View" became the Rosie Show 2. I would love to see an analysis of the percentage of the time she talked as opposed to the other ladies. I would love some lively debate next season, but could we get more views? (I was kind of hoping that after we lost Star and Merideth, this would happen.) 4 women should be able to usually give us 4 points of view, instead of only 2... And as far as Rosie being a comedienne, Joy is the one that consistantly takes that role. You can expect that her point will be funny, even if you don't agree. Rosie was harsh, with a little funny thrown in.
The View had the best group ever with Barbara, Meredith, Joy, Star and Elizabeth. So well balanced, I too have lost confidence in Barbara's judgement, lets hope she learns by this past mistake.
i LOVE rosie odonnel...was so bummed when she cancelled her talk show, but YAY, the tv personality i love so much is there on the view...and HOW boring was that show before she came onto it...the reason why i like her so much is that she is a REAL person and not a fake tv personality like most all of other talk show hosts i have seen...i know this isn't as articulate as it should be but the view should pay her triple, redo her contract to her liking, ANYTHING and EVERYTHING to keep her on the show....after she leaves i will no longer be watching....and HOW BORING is that elizabeth????? who said she should get such a great job after being a contestant on survivor!!!! i say boo to her~ she is too bland....
Now, if only someone would quiet Elizabeth this program might be worth watching again. She also is rude, interrupting guests, co-hosts, who ever, just to get her uneducated blather across.
Rosie is and always will be her own person. I didn't always agree with her, but hey this is Americia. Aren't we watching the "VIEW" to get different views? It would be boring if we all agreed on everything. You go Rosie and continue to do your thing.
WOW, Rosie - LOUD,FAT,IGNORANT, made in America!!!
Rosie is a piece of crap and she deserves to go. If you don't agree with what she thinks, she calls you the enemy. I would never let anyone under the age of 18 watch her crap on TV. She is vulgar, rude and crass. There are other ways to intelligently discuss issues than having them thrown in your face and screamed at if you don't agree with her viewpoints. The things she says on The View reflect her total ignorance of a wide range of subjects. So many people like her that they believe everything she says - good riddance to conspiracy theories, misinformation and intellectual vulgarity.
She lost me a long time ago, when she needlessly attacked Tom Selleck on her old show. I am also tired of her gay agenda, the ridiculous notion that yo fight depression by hanging like a bat, and all the other stuff she does for shock value. If we are truly in the postImus world in America and genuinely want to clean up the air, she needs to be brought in to the fold as well, not necessarily killing the act, but at least toning it down. Hopefully the management of the next program will take that into account
I think Rosie and all of her kookie friends need to move to mexico. Listening to her idiotic and fanatical points of view is just boring and border on legal ramifications. Please ABC and Barbara, spare us!
I did not agree with Rosie on a lot of issues. I could not keep from watching the show as she blundered her words of anger at everyone..but I think she should go. But now...I am afried I will never watch the view again if Rosanne Barr is added to the crew. Now that is one person, when she just opens her mouth, I wish I had a dirty sock to stick down her throat. Looks like we may have a bad to worse view on daily.
You really shouldn't criticize other people's grammar when you can't even punctuate your own sentences properly.
rush limbaugh, hannity (who's radio show our city just got rid of) oreilly bush--this is where Elizabeth gets her info from. They have been so wrong for so long and yet they still spout all their lies and misinformation. thank god for rosie who definetly speaks the truth. you right wing nuts are bringing the whole country down.
Does it really matter what we think about Rosie? I know she dosen't. We need to realize that every human has their own opinions; and it is individually up to an individual to agree or disagree with what another person says. If we did not agree with Rosie, why did we have to respond to what she believes. Was Elisabeth right? Or do we hate Rosie that much until we just agreed to what Elisabeth said? America, get it through your fat head; we live in the land of the free, freedom of speech and all that other crap. If we want to voice our opinions and say what we feel, then damn it, let us. KEEP IT UP ROSIE, YOU GOT MY VOTE!!!! STAR JONES DID NOT BRING THE RATINGS LIKE YOU DID!
