Lohan and the law

I've really been trying to ignore the Lindsay Lohan story, but today's Associated Press article finally tackled the topic I've been wondering about for some time: Does anybody care that Lohan is not yet of legal drinking age, yet seems to be having no trouble getting served alcohol? If a 20-year-old non-celebrity was getting into this much trouble and alcohol was involved, you can bet the servers and bars in question would be in hot water by now, but it takes this long for anyone to notice that Lohan won't turn 21 until July?

Apparently California does have a Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, which must have been on vacation for the past few years, and employees of said department have been conducting undercover investigations at "trendy celebrity watering holes." Why don't they just surreptitiously follow Lohan around from club to club? It would seem that if they want to find a trendy spot where the liquor is flowing and the ID is not necessary, they could do worse than to put a tracking device on her.

Honestly, the thought of Lindsay being underage and drinking did not occur to me until I read the recent news articles. Come to think of it, how come this happened? The 'glare' of this issue of allowing a minor to drink alcohol in bar is just the tip of the iceberg. Lindsay is a celebrity, and it's not impossible that a lot of these incidences (underage drinking) is prevalent amongst people her age. It just so happened that Lindsay is a famous person. Having said that, I believe that opening a can of worms and taking these into public has to stop. Honestly, I'm sick and tired of reading/ browsing through headlines screaming her name and whatever she has done over the week. I say that she's a lot like some people her age in America and the rest of the world. She's not the only one with issues, with personal and family problems. It just so happened that she's a celebrity. So what? She has to deal with the consequences of what she has done and seriously get some help, get her act together and get her life back on track. Stop the 'poor me' attitude, stop blaming others for their troubles and just deal with it. Seriously, not to undermine the girl's problems, but the world around us has far worse troubles than this. :(
I agree completely. The incompetance of the department continutes...they also announced that military id's are no longer valid as proof of age for the purchase of alcohol. My hubby can fight for this country but cannot buy a beer without two forms of ID!!! The ABC needs to wake up and take control of the underage drinking epidemic, which is glamorized by celebs who make the news with DUIs, drug addictions & rehab...all before their 21st birthday!
How is it that pictures from clubs are everywhere and yet it took this long for any media source (and yet still so few) to recognize that many of the celebrities are underage?! If you turn on the tv there are shows celebrating how these "celebrities" (how some are considered that I still don't know) are out and about all the time. Nobody is even mentioning the abundant DRUG use! Geez. This portrayal of reality leaves young people with this idea that they too can lead a life like that. Too bad that they will not be given the golden pass that these "celebrities" get. Unlike Lindsay and Paris and Robert Downey jr, if you are Joe Schmo and have DUIs, prison time and drug addictions on your record, you will not be given the same opportunities that those in the glossy pictures are given. Not only does the ABC need to close all those bars, but someone needs to arrest her mother.
Bars and bartenders need to start facing consequences for providing alcohol to minors. I don't care how famous the minor is, or how much publicity s/he brings to their establishment, they need to be held accountable. What if an underage patron got into a car and killed someone after being served all night at a club?
I cant stand hearing anymore about Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton. They somehow seem to think that they are above the law, but what is crap is that they are actually getting away with thier crimes. If I were underage, drunk driving, crashed into a tree, and was found with cocaine, I would be in jail for a long time. But i'm sure she'll just get off with a couple weeks sentence like Paris Hilton. I think that regardless of how many magazine covers your pictures grace, if you are an American citizen, you should be held accountable for your crimes and punished EQUALLY to every other citizen in this country!
I am now in college and of legal age to drink, but before I turned 21 there was no way I would have gotten away with what she does. In Iowa, there is a $300 first time offense for being caught with an alcoholic beverage. Then there are also consequences for the establishment which served the minor alcohol, many times resulting in the closing of that establishment. Luckily for all of us non-celebrities, she will face the consequences. Akready she has been turned down and/or fired from jobs because of her behavoir. I know that if I had several DUI's, drug-posession charges etc., I would not be able to get a decent job.
