'Sopranos' prepares to go out with a bang

Warning: Stop reading now if you haven't seen last night's "Sopranos" episode, or if you don't want to hear any speculation and possible spoilers about what the finale may bring.

Was Sunday night's "Sopranos" a stunner, or what? Tony's crew has been slowly being picked off for weeks now, with Tony himself helping matters along by dispatching Christofuh.

I was sorry to see Bobby, perhaps the nicest, mellowest mobster in the crew, make his exit, and in such a bloody way, in such a calm location -- a model-train store. If anyone watching this show had needed a reminder that this is an adult program with heartless criminals at its core, there was the reminder, as a dad and his two small sons cowered and cried and Bobby was blown to bits, all while a model train crashed for emphasis. (If one of the Baccalas had to go, why couldn't it be whiny Janice?) Bobby's no angel -- when ordered by Tony in the season premiere, he iced a Canadian in a laundromat for no other reason than the guy was involved in a messy custody battle and his relatives wanted him out of the way. But in this crew, he was the softie, and sometimes the conscience, and seeing him killed was tough.

Bobby wasn't the only one to find himself in the sights of Phil's New York crew. Silvio Dante, who's been Tony's workhorse for years, found himself attacked close to home -- in a car outside of Tony's own Bada Bing strip club. It was as if Phil's guys were making it clear: We can get you anywhere, you're not safe even on your own turf. Sil was shot repeatedly while topless dancers and others shrieked in horror, but as Paulie later related, he's one tough guy -- Sil is apparently not yet dead, but he's unlikely to regain consciousness. (We've got a vote here on whether you think he'll make it or not.)

Sil has had a long history with the Soprano crew. Many of the commentors on my earlier post believe he had sold Tony out and was working with the Feds (some also believe he had not actually killed Adriana, and was hiding her somewhere, which...wishful thinking, to my mind.) Sil has long been the one Tony turned to to take out traitors on his own side -- it's gotten to the point where if you see Silvio and you've been babbling to the other side, you'd better start running. In business negotiations he seemed the calm, silent type -- worlds away from garrulous Paulie Walnuts and even hotheaded Christopher. But he was perhaps more deadly than either of them, and to take him out of Tony's crew is a near-fatal blow.

With just one episode to go, Tony's life has been devastated. Carmela, A.J. and Meadow have had to flee their luxurious McMansion. Tony himself has gone to the mattresses, managing to fall asleep, weapon in hand. (Do you really let your men order pizza when you're hiding out? I mean, I guess Domino's isn't on Phil's payroll, but that seemed a little unsafe to me.) And before this all started, even his longtime therapist, Dr. Melfi, dumped him as a patient. It's all rolling downhill for the big guy, and viewers are left to speculate if the series finale will continue that roll, or correct it in some way.

My prediction is that things will only get worse for Tony. He may not die, but he will wish he had. That may mean jail, but I suspect it will instead mean a loss far greater than even the loss of Bobby and Sil. I predict something will happen in his blood family, whether Carmela, Meadow or A.J. are put in danger, or this latest happening will make his always-loyal family turn on him. I'm still holding out that it will be the revelation of the details of Adriana's murder that set things in motion, but I'm willing to accept that that storyline, as well as so many other unfinished plots (the Pine Barrens escapee, Melfi's rapist paying for his crime) will never be revisited. At least not unless David Chase takes the show to the movies.

I think Phil will get whacked, but ultimately Tony will end up in jail, from the EPA, and the dumptruck load of Asbestos that was dumped near homes.
I think Paulie is against Tony, he has been disappoint in the family from the beginning. Honestly, Paulie has been playing both side with New York going back to his relationship with John when he told that they made fun of Jenny's weight. Sil made a comment about how the New York crew were trying to recruit several people into new management..He just decided against it...That doesn't mean Paulie was so hard to convince. I think Tony will go into hiding/witness protection program...Remember from season 4 or 5 with his lawyer holding his money..Tony is rich. Carmela is rich individually.. I think they will keep Tony alive to have a spin off in a couple year.... I LOVE THIS FREAKIN' SHOW..MADA
Tony will wake from a dream, where he is actually a mild manored accountant living in a cold water flat.
Phil and Butch are wacked. Carmella leaves Tony after being frightened to death. AJ takes his own life. Meadow gets killed while hanging out with her connected boyfriend. Tony lives a loney pathetic life like Godfather II, but worse, he will have his only friend Paulie talking to him to death.
I think that Tony and Paulie are going to make it. Someone in Tony's family will die, possibly Meadow, since keeping AJ alive allows the family to continue under AJ. Either Paulie or AJ will get so mad that Meadow is killed that either one of them will kill Phil. But seasons ago, Tony had this dream vision of him and Paulie sitting in a high celing room at a table in the "Big House" with prison garb on. so there is a possibility that Tony and Paulie will go to jail, and AJ will then pick up the pieces and run the family. Sort of like what Michael did in The Godfather.
It will be a dream with Tony waking up and being on the show Dallas.
Phil will be in Hiding with the Feds and pauley will take over his spot
Unbelievable episode. I watched this episode particularly closely as my Uncle was an extra in this episode...very cool. Here's my take. I agree that things will only get worse for Tony. I think the rest of his guys get wacked and Tony calls his FBI "friend" who he's spoken with in the deli in the past and goes into the witness protection program with is family turning states evidence implicating Phil.
Tony will be shot in his backyard and before he dies he will see the ducks in his pool again.
I think Tony will be approached by the FBI and take the family into the witness protection program, leaving wide open a future for the Sopranos.
I believe that something tragic will happen to A.J. or Meadow, possibly one of them being caught in the crossfire and killed. (remember Godfather 3?). Tony will then be so devastated that he goes to the Feds, and goes into the witness program. Then he calls Dr. Melfi, with the last scene being him and her starting therapy, again.
I think Phil will kill Tony and AJ will step up and avenge his death and kill Phil and a few others. Or maybe he will go to the FBI for protection of his family.
I think the entire Soprano family will get whacked. The only one that will survive will be AJ.
I've been contemplating my version of an appropriate ending for so long, I'm at the point where I cannot imagine any other last episode except the one I've concocted! For so many reasons, but the most obvious being that Tony deserves the ultimate punishment for perpetuating this life of crime, with such wicked, ruthless disregard for human life. In my mind, I feel the only retribution powerful and ghastly enough would be the murder of Carm, AJ and Mead. I picture them all in one place together, with Phil thinking it's TONY who is actually in that location (though at this point, Phil has proved himself to be such a wretched, loathsome individual, that it probably wouldn't matter to him at all if the family members were at the end of the barrel or not)and setting up an explosion, or fire, or a mad rush. Why this way? Well, jail would not torture him to the degree I think is befitting. Murder is clearly is too easy. If Chase chooses this, I will just throw up my hands. No, I think Tony needs to be made to suffer the most unforgettable, gut wrenching tragedy that could ever befall a man. And since Pie-o-my (sp?)is long gone, seems the next most beloved thing left is his family unit of 3.
I have a hunch Paulie's been talking to the NY crew. He always looks suspicious and last night was no different. Plus Walnuts is always looking out for number one and probably is still pissed at Tony for giving Christofuh one of his big money jobs. Tony, watch your back!
One of his family must die. It will probably be Meadow driving in the city and the NY crew will mistake the car for Tony's. Everyone's life has been destroyed that has come into contact with Tony, and the only way to complete that is to destroy his immediate family.
The idea of Carm, Meadow & AJ turning on Tony never occurred to me. Now I have something else to think about. I don't think Tony will be killed and I think Sil will survive. After all, Christopher survived his shooting, Tony survived his... Plus, when you get right down to it, how can there be a Sopranos Movie without Tony & Sil? I can see a movie without Paulie, without Bobby, even without Carmella or one of the kids... but not without Tony & Sil. Just my two cents worth...
either tony gets wacked and paulie takes over because he was on phils side all the time or tony goes with the feds and hides
Any chance the woman mobster and Silvio will return from Italy and proect their US interests by saving Tony's crew?
I think one of two things happens: 1) Tony somehow has Phil and his top guys wacked and installs Little Carmine as the new boss in NY. The show would end with Tony on top, being the de facto head of both NY and NJ. 2) Paulie betrays Tony and kills him. Paulie is installed as the head of NJ but is merely a figurehead for Phil as NY takes over NJ.
I predict that Sil will miraculously survive and that Carmela, not Tony, will be killed. Tony said it all when he said, "family never gets touched". Hmmmm.... They have to leave open the possibilty for a movie, so to kill off the main character would be stupid.
My original prediction at the start of this "part 2" of season 6 was that at least one soprano thug and one innocent (Carm, Meadow, or A.J.) would be killed. Now that Bobby is dead and Sil is likely on his way out, WOW, that makes for 2 thugs and I still kinda feel like one of the innocents will die next Sunday. I was thinking before-hand that yesturday's 2nd to last episode would account for at least 50% of the finale's shockers and/or deaths. After watching, that seems to be the case, to prove that wrong, next sunday is gonna have to be a violent and dramatic show. I see one more Soprano thug dying (which could be Tony) And still one innocent. In addition, There will probably be some other sort of shocker, i.e. A.J. killing Phil and perhaps Sunday's official finale will end with Tony getting arrested and indicted after killing off Phil and his thugs and winning the battle that we left of with at the end the show last night. I can't friggin wait!!
Paulie Walnuts has always wanted to be a boss. I think he's gonna make a deal with Phil. Paulie will whack Tony and his family. Then take over the business. But he'll go to the hospital to finish off Sil. Sil will blow him away but die in the closing scene.
Crime doesn't pay. In real life the mob has just about ceased to exist. They no longer control waste management in NYC & Jersy. In the end Tony will regret being a mobster, maybe with his son or family damaged a lot, but probably not in prison.
One of the other 5 "Family's" will take out Phil, Butch and the rest of the one's who are hunting before they get to Tony. Carmine Jr. will then again serve the post his father held. Tony will continue to be on the run from the Feds, which he esentailly has been since the start of this wonderful series began. More loose ends will occur and the series ends with Tony pondering his life in an Ice Cream Soda Shoppe which he frequented in his childhood.
I'll start by saying that Tony needs Chris more than ever, and Bobby wouldn't have been the third target, it would have been Chris. Christopher personally was weak in some ways, but in business was the toughest guy in Tony's crew. As for the ending, there's only one. A war between one of the five NY Families against New Jersey will bring more of NY against the Soprano family. The only logical conclusion to the Soprano family taking down a Brooklyn Boss is when Little Carmine steps up and in, takes the Brooklyn family, and settles any problems other families may have with Jersey. As for Frank Vincent, and excellent bad guy, I hope they hang him from a rope off the Brooklyn Bridge and Butchie, his little worm of an advisor, I'd like to see the tears flow before the trigger is pulled on him. In the end, peace will come as Little Carmine and Tony Soprano form a solid business and personal alliance.
WoW, last nights show took my breath away, and then I felt sad. My husband and I have watched the show from the begining. We will miss all actors that were on the show. I really missed Christopher, when Tony wacked him, and now this. Poor Bobby, he was one of the nicest wise guys. Well in my ending I have AJ loosing it and shooting Tony ( even though he loves his father, he is bitter that he can't measure up and deepdown he can't stand violence ) Tony won't die. The beauty of this is, Tony will be parilised. ( he won't be able to talk or walk. His pennents will be that he spends the rest of his life in a wheel chair and it's his son that puts him there.) Last but not least I think it only fitting that Phil gets wacked by Janice. She can do it. The show will definately be missed. Good job to all of you, you played your parts well.

Tony finds out that Paulie and Phil have a deal. Not safe anywhere Tony and family enter protective custody and eventually the witness protection program. Tony thus rats out Phil and Paulie and has the last laugh/groan. Or Tony is soon dead and Paulie and Phil rule - and Paulie lets the Soprano women only live.
Tony will be left standing alone...
I believe Tony will come out of hiding and go on the attack,Phil will be located and dealt with ( I hope ).I do feel that something will happen within Tony's own family that will crush him. In the back of my head the way Tony looked at AJ's computer screen and saw about global terror I feel Tony might seek the FBI's help in some way to protect his family. No matter what I need to see Phil get his and I hope it's with Tony's hand.
Tony will loose everything, including his son. He will go to the Feds and work a deal as his only way of getting back at Phil. Fade out to nothing.....
I think Meadow will figure into the finale. In the last few episodes we've seen her ditch her med school plans, start dating a mobster's son, and emerge as the stronger of the 2 Soprano offspring. I'd love to see a flash forward at the very end, with Meadow running the Family, and supporting Carmella, who is still able to fool herself about the family she married into and her part in making it what it is.
think Chase: Tony will not die (sequels). Phil will not die (prison). In real life bad guys win (Dick Cheney/Karl Rove). Maybe Carmine will kill him. Or there will be a peace meeting and Janice will kill Phil and Tony. AJ will run away, Meadow will move out and work for Gualliani, Camilla will go shopping.
I've been wondering if Furio will make an appearance in the last episode, finally taking Carm out of her hell??
I was absolutely stunned last night! My two favorite mobsters gunned down! I think it will end with Tony and Phil in a Mexican standoff. I think the earlier episodes showed Tony where each person close to him stood. Paulie, while a big mouth, will always protect Tony fiercly. And Christopher, well, I'm glad he's gone. But I'm at a lost and counting down the hours until Sunday.
I believe that A.J. will kill his dad as some sort of vindication for his anti-violence trip.
Tony will join the church and move to a cloistered monastary in northern Wisconsin.
Love, love, LOVE your blog! Sweet Bobby didn't deserve what happened last night...nor long life with Janice! Sil's loss is HUGE! He was strong enough to take care of things on his own...not having to wait for orders. Pauly wasn't targeted because he's weak. I've wondered about Adrianna's possibilities too...we'll see. I can't wait to see what happens next week. This isn't the kind of story that can have a happy ending, but I don't think Tony will be completely devastated (killed or jailed for life) but he may be hurt enough (Carm and/or the kids) to leave potential revenge storylines for the movie(s).
I still don't think Tony will die, because that would, in effect, close the door on bringing the franchise to the big screen. Of course, by taking out Christopher, Bobby and, possibly, Silvio--three main characters--you've probably already lessened the value of the movie, anyway. I still think it's possible that A.J. dies next week, sending Tony over the edge and straight into an mental health facility. It's also entirely possible that the one guy Tony wasn't sure he could absolutely trust, Paulie, could be the one who ultimately saves Tony's rear-end by knocking off Phil. But, as the old phrase we goes, "We shall see..."
I think Carmela will find out about Adriana's and Chris. Murders by Tony. So she might lose it and kill Tony. Or maybe even AJ will take him out.
Here is the deal...Paulie is the rat which is why a hit was not ordered on him. In the last episode Tony takes them all out including Paulie.
I believe the FBI agent that asked Tony for help identifying terrorists will figure in some way to save Tony, either by Tony's request or by accident. I don't think Tony will be killed. Maybe he will survive in some kind of Federal witness protection plan.
To kill Tony would be too easy and obvious way to finish the series. No way!!!
Tony will take it to Phil....some flunkie will spot Phil in some run down motel in Florida someplace. Then Paulie will step-up and "fix-it" in old time Luca Brasi fashion. Silvio recovers, Junior dies a natural death...but Carmela is still a b----, Meadow independent, and A.J., well....he's the same. Look to Janice to exact a little Soprano's revenge, too. Again, miraculously, Tony survives to fight another day. Thanks to Walnuts.
I think A.J. will come of age, accept his depression, get control of his wimpy life and become a new back up for Tony with the future of the Soprano family ultimately in his hands. AJ will assume his leadership role through "the law of the gun."
the fbi dude who told tony about the "hits", may allso let him (tony) know where phil is hiding. (maybe some kind of deal) tony and the jersey boys will kill phil and his top boys. the last scene will be tony sitting by the pool watching the ducks return.
Losing all the big earners spells death for the NJ crime family, referred to by Phillie as nothing more than a "glorified crew." Vito, Sil, Christopher, Bobby...who are the supposed to be replaced with even if Tony does survive. For the people below Tony and Paulie its "meet the new boss, same as the old boss."
Last nights episode was truly a stunner, but I guess with only two episodes left, they had to start chopping away at Tony's "family" in the next to last one. I can't help thinking, though, that the finale episode has been predicted by Dr. Melfi and her associates: that the sociopath only uses talk therapy to become more criminal. I think Tony, feeling trapped like a rat, will turn to the Feds to save his skin and his (real) family and will enter the witness protection program and thereby picking off Phil and his family one by one. However it ends, I am going to miss tuning in on The Sopranos...
How come no one has mentioned a terrorist link? Tony helping out the FBI and then wondering what happened. Are all the little chats and discussions just to throw in one more possiblty of what can happen? I think one of the kids will get it and the other will start running the family, lets hope it's not AJ, don't count him out yet, may be this is all just a ploy to confuse us even more. Lots of loose ends to tie up in only an hour.
