'Sopranos' prepares to go out with a bang

Warning: Stop reading now if you haven't seen last night's "Sopranos" episode, or if you don't want to hear any speculation and possible spoilers about what the finale may bring.

Was Sunday night's "Sopranos" a stunner, or what? Tony's crew has been slowly being picked off for weeks now, with Tony himself helping matters along by dispatching Christofuh.

I was sorry to see Bobby, perhaps the nicest, mellowest mobster in the crew, make his exit, and in such a bloody way, in such a calm location -- a model-train store. If anyone watching this show had needed a reminder that this is an adult program with heartless criminals at its core, there was the reminder, as a dad and his two small sons cowered and cried and Bobby was blown to bits, all while a model train crashed for emphasis. (If one of the Baccalas had to go, why couldn't it be whiny Janice?) Bobby's no angel -- when ordered by Tony in the season premiere, he iced a Canadian in a laundromat for no other reason than the guy was involved in a messy custody battle and his relatives wanted him out of the way. But in this crew, he was the softie, and sometimes the conscience, and seeing him killed was tough.

Bobby wasn't the only one to find himself in the sights of Phil's New York crew. Silvio Dante, who's been Tony's workhorse for years, found himself attacked close to home -- in a car outside of Tony's own Bada Bing strip club. It was as if Phil's guys were making it clear: We can get you anywhere, you're not safe even on your own turf. Sil was shot repeatedly while topless dancers and others shrieked in horror, but as Paulie later related, he's one tough guy -- Sil is apparently not yet dead, but he's unlikely to regain consciousness. (We've got a vote here on whether you think he'll make it or not.)

Sil has had a long history with the Soprano crew. Many of the commentors on my earlier post believe he had sold Tony out and was working with the Feds (some also believe he had not actually killed Adriana, and was hiding her somewhere, which...wishful thinking, to my mind.) Sil has long been the one Tony turned to to take out traitors on his own side -- it's gotten to the point where if you see Silvio and you've been babbling to the other side, you'd better start running. In business negotiations he seemed the calm, silent type -- worlds away from garrulous Paulie Walnuts and even hotheaded Christopher. But he was perhaps more deadly than either of them, and to take him out of Tony's crew is a near-fatal blow.

With just one episode to go, Tony's life has been devastated. Carmela, A.J. and Meadow have had to flee their luxurious McMansion. Tony himself has gone to the mattresses, managing to fall asleep, weapon in hand. (Do you really let your men order pizza when you're hiding out? I mean, I guess Domino's isn't on Phil's payroll, but that seemed a little unsafe to me.) And before this all started, even his longtime therapist, Dr. Melfi, dumped him as a patient. It's all rolling downhill for the big guy, and viewers are left to speculate if the series finale will continue that roll, or correct it in some way.

My prediction is that things will only get worse for Tony. He may not die, but he will wish he had. That may mean jail, but I suspect it will instead mean a loss far greater than even the loss of Bobby and Sil. I predict something will happen in his blood family, whether Carmela, Meadow or A.J. are put in danger, or this latest happening will make his always-loyal family turn on him. I'm still holding out that it will be the revelation of the details of Adriana's murder that set things in motion, but I'm willing to accept that that storyline, as well as so many other unfinished plots (the Pine Barrens escapee, Melfi's rapist paying for his crime) will never be revisited. At least not unless David Chase takes the show to the movies.

In sort of a demented and curious way...Absolutely the best show Television has to offer!
Pauli will kill Tony. That's why he wasn't targeted by Phil. Alternately, Pauli is a government informant who has been taping Tony for the FBI. The only way Tony won't die is if he becomes a rat himself to save his family.
It would seem that there is an unlimited appetite for more episodes of the Sopranos and since that is not an option then the big screen and big bucks are next. With that said Tony, Phil and the rest of them will die (maybe Paulie survives) in a rain of bullets and the feature film portrays the beginning of the Sopranos with a young cast including Tony and the gang, Tony's mother and father, a young Junior and some of the others we've seen over the years.
The news has been leaked already, Guys. There are numerous websites from Insiders of the show who gave away the last episode. The last to the final scene in the final episode, Tony is near a lake where he sees ducks flapping in the water. He walks to the ducks in the lake and attempts to follow them -- only to drown himself and die. Sorry to give it away, but check out the Insider Report website who's always been correct when discussing future episodes.
Tony is losing all of his lifelines: his crew, his therapist, and I'm guessing he'll lose AJ on Sunday. It's going to be too much for Tony to take. He'll take his own life (but not before whacking Phil).
My call - Paulie's going out (Chase can't keep the coolest guy in the show hanging around), but not without a fight; Phil is going to get what's coming to him somehow; one of the Sopranos, not AJ, will get whacked; at the news of the death, Tony's going to have a major heart attack and die (AJ takes over). It's a simple ending, but I think Chase might go with a small event to pack a big punch, bringing things sort of full circle for Tony; it's his own life that actually kills him. I would love to see the finale contain dream sequences like in the season 2 finale, featuring all the people he's killed around him throughout the series like a million albatrosses around Tony's neck.
I hope that Tony is the one to get rid of Phil!! I hope that the writers do not do anything as stupied and kill off Tony! I was glad he knocked his son off his butt! AJ may get mad enough to kill one of Phil's men or Phil himself for killing his uncle. That would be a good end! He was around violence with the kids from college and he has enough issues to be able to do it. I hope no one in the soprano family gets hurt either! I can't wait to see the last show! I hope it is a 2 hour episode!! I love Tony and Carmela hate to see them go!
Any variant with Tony still alive is possible. This is far too valuable a commodity to kill off the (fat) goose that laid the proverbial golden egg. The writer that suggested a trip to the mental institution opened an interesting story line intro for a movie. Start in the same facility where Linda Hamilton resided at the outset of Terminator II and see how Tony emerges to rebuild his empire on a far grander scale I always thought The Godfather III ended on a far too moralistic depressing note. If you are going to romantasize mobsters, then go for it. Don't build emotional ties to a fictional character and leave the viewers with a hollow ending. Leave that to real life.
I am wondering about Patsy Parisi's role here. Recall that Tony had Patsy's twin whacked several years ago in the coup of Junior, and a drunk Patsy was later seen aiming a gun at Tony before backing down and taking a leak in Tony's pool. Tony later insulted Patsy again by elevating Christopher over Patsy to acting capo when Paulie went to jail. So, what do we know this season: 1) Coco from NY found Meadow when she was eating with Patsy's son, leading to the inevitable altercation between Tony and one of NY's made guys, 2) Patsy was in charge of the botched attempt on Phil, who cannot be found, 3) Patsy was driving when Sil was hit, but got away clean, and 4) Patsy doesn't show up at Junior's house to protect Tony. This all may be a red herring. Then again, Patsy may be working on Phil's team.
I think one of two things will occur... 1. Tony will get shot and they will leave it open.... not telling if dies or not. 2. Tony will survive! (hey theres hope!) I think maybe Carmella dies in their home in a fire that Phils crew starts (thinking someone, maybe Tony is there)
Tony winds up in witness protection after another blood bath with the NY family. This show has centered around the family side of a ruthless mobster with a love for his family. It also leave sthe movie option openthat way ala Sammy the bull
Tony will survive, but to what? His life will be shattered by the death of Carm, A.J., Meadow, or all three. How will they die? Not at the hands of rival gangsters, but in a big NYC terrorist attack (maybe the Brooklyn Bridge blows up while they're on it), the clues for which have been dropping like lead weights all season long. The big shock in the final episode won't be who lives or dies but that Tony Soprano's petty and ultimately insignificant crime world will be overshadowed by a much bigger and more important event. At the end of Scorcese's Gangs of New York, rival gang members are at each other's throats with knives, cluelessly embroiled in family turf wars when the Revolutionary War explodes in NY, raining cannon bombshells down on them. Likewise, Tony and his pals are clueless to the larger events taking place around them -- in their case, the Global War on Terror, which A.J. has been foreshadowing with his sudden interest in the world's problems, Iraq, terrorism, etc. Remember, after Tony slaps A.J. around, he glances at his son's laptop and sees the subject -- terrorism. Note, too, that Dr. Melfi commented to Tony, "A.J, who knew nothing, now knows everything." Also, in an earlier episode, A.J. was reading Joan Didion's Slouching Toward Bethlehem, a big clue to the coming finale, in which Tony, having strutted and fretted his hour upon the stage -- his life filled with sound and fury -- finally realizes it all signifies nothing.
AJ sees his sister and mother die when the house they are hiding out in blows up in front of his eyes. With the death of his wife and daughter Tony comes out of hiding for vengeance on Phil. Tony, with the help of Paulie and AJ seek out Phil and torture/kill him. Season ends with AJ looking at Tony realizing the "curse" is now upon him.
There has to be one surreal moment like Tony dreaming of the talking fishes before killing Big P or with his cousin while shot in the hospital. It would give the show a chance to bring back former characters who may be able to give him insight into how to get out of the mess he's in. Regardless, it's going to be FUN ride after all of these years with our Favorite TV "Family!"
I think Tony will make a deal with feds, serve time in prison(Phil pointed out he'd never served time as all the other greats)thus placing his family in protective custody. I feel that Tony seeing the website A.J. had up on the web is making him realize that he's putting his children closer to the violence (Last week when Meadow was approced by Coco)than he thought and he's tired of always looking over his shoulder(in the preview for next week it states Tony - no longer in hiding). I feel that Sil will not make it through. I knew Bobby was going to get it since he was the nicer, less aggressive of the bunch, I wished it had been Janice with a mac truck in the middle of the road in front of the train store coming in to get Bobby out of there before he dropped $8 large on a train set instead but I didn't write it. I feel that Adrianna is gone. I almost thought Tony was gonna kill A.J. himself in disgust of how big of a woos he has become. I got my hopes up that in the last few weeks A.J. would toughen up and be the man his father hoped he would become, hence my thoughts that Tony just doesn't have anyone to follow in his footsteps or anything to leave behind. Meadow is too self righteous to follow in Tony's footsteps. She doesn't appreciate where the money comes from as long as she get what she needs from it and preach to Tony as to how he got it.
I think that Dr. Melfi is going to kill Tony for ripping her magazine and not paying for his final visit. AJ is going to strap a bomb on his back and suicide bomb Cocoas Restaurant while Phil and his crew are eating their Lasagna. All of the widows are going to get jobs dancing at the Bing and the FBI agent will be their manager.
i just can't vision tony soprano going out in bullets. i just don't see it !! i feel they should have tried to keep the sopranos running as long as possible. the simpsons for heavens sake had their 400th episode... why not continue the sopranos but with a younger cast.....perhaps AJ could have snapped out of it and actually taken over as captain....something like that. i really really hate to see the show stop, i have been watching since the very first episode.
If the creators and actors wanted to, and they should, continue this series with a string of films they can. It would be an enormous success and would allow them to tie up some loose end that have left fans hanging for years. To do that they would have to keep the majors they have left in tact and thus far they have done that especially by not killing of Silvio just yet. I see Tony going on a rampage with his crew and doing some damage. They may lose a few of their own in the mix but I doubt it would be Tony, Silvio of Paulie or any family members - except I still have a feeling about A.J.. I think Phil is all done and will go out in a fitting way. Tony may get more assistance from the Fed that informed him about the "target" on his back. Maybe Phil's whereabouts. Tony helped himself by filling the Feds in on the suspected terrorist that hung out at the Bing. That will play big time in the final episode.
Jack Bauer will kill Tony.
I think that tony will not get killed, he was almost killed before, but that prick from goodfellas will get killed hopefully in the same way in goodfellas, maybe Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci will see him in a bar at the end of the show. who knows, but it will be a good episode.
Carmella will clean out the bank accounts and put all the loot into suit cases - leaving Tony for good. As she is backing the car out of the driveway, she runs over Tony, only crushing his legs. He can not walk only crawl on his belly and elbows.
I think Paulie is a turncoat. He's been a disappointment all season, and even before this season wanted to join Johnny Sack's family. AND, he was the one who is ultimately responsible for the botched killing of Phil (they even said Paulie took full responsibility) - maybe he did that on purpose somehow? Also, the fact that he was not targeted in the hits (I always figured he was higher up in the family than Bobby) makes him appear even more suspicious. The poetic justice in all this is that Tony could have taken Paulie out a few episodes ago, but chose not to. I think the two go to kill Phil, but Paulie shows his true colors at the end, but pauses for a moment and Tony kills him instead. I think, though, that Tony won't survive in the end. I think James Gandolfini is sick of this role and doesn't want to revisit it again - even in a film.
I think Paulie is playing both sides. I also think that Rhiannon is doing and inside job for Phil and AJ will get whacked. I think she is taking advantage of AJ's vulnerabilities but it is obvious to me she is working for Phil. His whining and crying is too annoying at this point and unfortunately he won't do "T" any good as far as the business is concerned. I know he is his son but it is so sad.
I think AJ will shoot his father or give his loction up to Phil.
The show will end in a cliffhanger and a Sopranos movie will come out in a couple years with the REAL ending. Okay so that's what I WANT to happen, not what I think will happen. I will miss the sopranos - it has brought me many laughs and even a few tears (Moltisanti's death for example - he was my favorite character). Thank goodness for the DVD's!
They are already doing a Sex and the City movie so why not cash in on a Sopranos flick? This is the main reasoning behind what I think the final episode will bring. Sill will survive as will Tony and his family. Otherwise, Paulie, Phil, his little assisstant are going down! AJ will try to do something heroic and get killed and Carmine Jr. will assisst in getting NY off Tony and what's left of his crew. The final scene will have something to do with animals and Tony will probably cry.
Paulie is discovered for the unfaithful, disloyal, ambitious, jerk he really is and Tony will kill him. A.J. or some Soprano family member will accidently get killed by Phil's hit men. Tony, now alone and seeking revenge on Phil, will rat on the N. Y. mob and enter the witness protection program leaving New york (and New Jersey) virtually ineffectual as far as the Cosa Nostra's once notorious and powerful crime framilies go..In the end, the business of violence and crime will be left to the less sophisticated(but really no less ruthless) Russian and mideastern mafias.
In the end, Tony will stand alone. Sil confesses to the priest before he dies that he killed Andriana, Carmela hearing this - runs. She is captured by Phil's crew and Tony must come out of hiding to get her. Meadow and boyfriend have contacted FBI. Tony finds Phil first and after Carmela is killed in the battle, Tony kills Phil, but the FBI guy looks the other way and lets Tony go because of Carmela. AJ winds up a vegetable. Janice leaves the kids and takes the bus to Seattle once again. Paulie tells Tony he'll always be loyal, but Tony reminds him that the hit on Phil was a mess because of Paulie and kills him. The last scene is Tony all alone in his big house....Carmela dead, AJ a vegetable, Meadow and boyfriend went to the witness protection program, Sil dead. You see Tony taking drugs.
What a about Junior? I think he is in on it, and he really isn't senile. Phil and him must have some sort of deal.
I think Carmela, Meadow and AJ will all be killed, leaving Tony to reflect on the impact of his life on his family.
I think that are going to call in more back-up from Italy, Furio will be one of them. AJ gets caught in cross-fire and dies. Ending scene will be Carm and Tony finally be able to breathe easily because Phil is gone, but then Carm will whack Tony and run off with Furio.
i think tony should live and be the only one run everything and sil as his right hand to continue the legacy.
Was it just me or is Tony hiding out at Uncle Junior's old house? And ordering pizza delivery does seem pretty stupid if you're hiding out. AJ is obviously not well, so how come if he was with Carm & Meadow on their way to hide out he did not enter Bobby & Janice's house with them? What's up with that? Where was he? I also think a dying Sil will let it slip about Adriana to Carm-who is a like big Mother to all so she would go to the hospital-which will either send her into a rage against Tony be she dead or alive. There are too may speculations to even consider. I sure will miss this show...there will never be another like it.
I like the sugestion Meadow goes on to lead the business. It's not a thought I'd entertained but would be a great irony considering Tony's misogynistic lifestyle. Paulie is playing both sides. I too think the fact he wanted to join another family & that he hasn't been targeted in any of the hits is suspicious. Something will definately happen regarding AJ. He either snaps and takes his or Tonys life or gets whacked by Rhinannon. As for Tony, it all depends on how they want to run the spin-offs/ movies/ and other franchises they want to run on the coat tails of this show. It's been a good run. I'll definately have a hole in my viewing for a while to come.
Well, just as many that have followed the 'Rocky' movies over the years were so sure that Stallone would be killed off in the last movie (Rocky VI) and that didn't happen, so shall be the fate of Tony Soprano. If there is EVER to be a 'Soprano' movie/movies, you can't kill-off your main character. Without Tony, there is NO Soprano's Movie...PERIOD!! I have to agree with (Sal D./N.Y.) so much as there will be an ole-fashioned family war, just as in the Godfather. As for Paulie, yes, he would like to be the 'Boss', but he and Tony's father were like brothers, so it's unlikely that Paulie will kill-off Tony, and he HATES Phil with a passion. And, if Phil will take out ALL of Tony's crew, including Tony, Paulie has to guess that Phil would at sometime, take out Paulie. (Paulie Takes Out Phil!!). Some of Phil's boys figure Tony to be w/ Carm, Meadow, Janice...finds out where they are held-up, goes there to kill Tony, A.J. rises to the occasion and protects his family, hence following in his father's footsteps. Final blood-bath with Tony finishing off Phil's crew with the assistance of Little Carmine and his boys. Hence, an 'appeared' alliance with "T" & Lil' Carmine...Intro to the Soprano's-The Movie... Or Not!
Interesting...very interesting. I think the fitting end is that Tony gets taken out by a betraying Paulie.AJ in turn assumes control and takes out Paulie then Phil. AJ with blood on his hands returns to the mansion poolside as the music turns up and the ducks waddle by
Tony Has two choices. 1. Suicide or 2 Victim Witness Program. I bet 2, he's been playing footsie with the Fed for years and recently the terorist angle. My bet is he ends up neighbors with Whitey Bulger.
I believe Phil will get whacked, you can't end a great series like this, only to have some weasle like Phil come out on top. Tony will regain his family possibly setting up a movie in which Sil will come back to health.
It is a television show. I will watch it and be entertained.
Who really cares? It is just a T.V. show.
I think Paulie is obviously helping Phil and betrays Tony. Tony gets killed. Meadow gets killed using Tony's car. AJ gets killed trying to avenge his father. The final scene will be all the Soprano widows in an ice cream shop.
Tony has always been suspicious of Paulie to the point that he was about to whack him in Florida. Paranoia will start forcing Tony to eliminate anybody whose a danger to him starting in his family, he'll outsmart Phil and rise to the top of the mob war.
I think Tony will survive but there has to be some tie into his depression/anxiety. I think someone in his family is killed (I wouldnt mind if it were AJ, what a sissy and Meadow did mention that he will always matter more b/c he is an Italian Son) and I agree I think Paulie either turns on him intentionally or is careless and leads them to him (btw Joey BagoDonuts, email me!)
I think Paulie is siding w/Phil and New York. Case in Point: Take the botched Phil hit from finish to beginning. The Ukrainian looked like Phil and the Zips got his address from Patsy who got it from Paulie. What are the odds that Phil's goomar lives near a guy who looks like him (Phil)? Paulie gave Patsy the wrong address to throw everybody off and since Phil went into hiding, There would be no way to tell right away that it wasn't him. Paulie has been disgruntled w/Tony for a couple of years now. Remember how Tony treated him in season three when he stopped taking his calls? And don't forget how Tony ruled against him on issues w/Chris (Who turned out to be just what Paulie predicted in the end). And remember how Paulie was "Talking out of school" to John when he was in the can? Paulie has teeter-tottered off and on since season three. Also, Phil gave the order to kill Tony and his men set up the top three. Paulie is the Underboss (according to HBO.com), which is technically number two but was spared. I orginally thought Patsy was in on it because he's still bitter about Tony having his twin killed by GiGi Gestone (remember when Patsy showed up at Tony's house w/the revolver and pissed in the pool?) Tony has made some fatal mistakes here. He went into hiding w/too many people knowing where he is, Paulie being one of them and his escalade is parked at the house where he's hiding out. Plus he's upstairs so he's a sitting duck. What I mean is if somebody wanted to invade the house, he'd have no where to run to. I know we don't want to believe it but Tony's done.
I think there will be a western style shootout at high noon with assault machine guns blaring. I can't predict who will win but there will certainly be lots of blood. Kind of like the valentines massacre.
Tony will not die, too much future HBO riding on it,..I mean HBO, DirecTV & cable outlets probably got 15-20 million new permanent subscribers with the Sopranos..damn, old Dr. Melfi sure gained alot of weight in the last 15 yrs..saw her the other night in the Ray Liotta (sp) hood movie..she was about size 3, now size 18 (Jenny Craig flunk out)...
Paulie definitely isn't a rat (for the Feds anyway) because it's in his contract that his character will not be rat. Which begs the question - would switching his loyalty to NY be considered a rat? If not, I think Paulie has some real beef with NJ. Remember the recent episode where Paulie and Tony are on the boat by themselves? Tony was irritated with Paulie all weekend and then on the boat Tony starts busting Paulie's balls about telling Johnny Sack about Ralphie's fat Ginny joke. And you see Tony looking at weapons that he could potentially use to kill Paulie right then and there. Paulie was obviously very nervous. And when Christopher died -- Paulie's 'mom' died too -- remember he told Tony that no one came (to the funeral) and he would f@#$%& remember that. Also, we haven't seen Paulie around much lately since that episode... AND Phil didn't name Paulie as one of the top 3 AND shot it down when someone else brought it up. With Chris gone, Paulie was definitely the third guy. I also like Parker from Houston's one about Patsy Parisi. When I was watching him run away from the Bing I was like - there is NO way he didn't get hit AT ALL unless it was on purpose.
Tony will flip and turn rat by entering the witness protection program with his family.
This program makes about as much sense, and has the same level of violence as America's War on Terror!
I think Tony and Phil are in on it together with the feds to bring the terrorist network down and to help get rid of WMD's and the Al Queda network not to mention that other fella Kim jong ill
