Are you still 'Lost'? Readers have questions

Filed Under:

After yesterday's two-hour "Lost" finale, are you feeling satisfied that viewers were finally given some answers? Or are you still raging against the creators for inventing more new questions than they answer?

Those readers who wrote in to comment on the finale were fairly evenly split. Some of you loved the finale and are looking forward to a new season in which the Oceanic Six will presumably grapple with whether they need to re-find the now-lost-again island...and whether anyone else can be saved.

Others feel that the show has started to live up to its title, as in, the fans are "Lost." One reader said that the minute viewers were shown life off the island, some of the show's magic died. And reader Sandy was even more blunt, saying "Are the writers on drugs? Show has become annoying rather than entertainment. Season after season, it goes nowhere, but into 'captions', and 'flashbacks'. I seriously doubt I will tune in next season."

Msnbc.com contributor Ree Hines, who's covered "Lost" for us all season, makes many good points in her analysis of the show. But she can't possibly answer all of your questions, and neither can I.

I'm going to pull some of the most interesting questions you raised and print them here. "Lost" viewers are smart folks (they have to be...) and I'm hoping some of you can jump in, via the comments, and provide answers -- or at least speculation. I'll number the questions so you can offer answers more easily

It's going to be a looooong summer...

YOUR QUESTIONS

1) OCTAGON COMMERCIAL
"Did anyone follow up on the Octagon thing? [Editor's Note: ad recruiting employees for the Octagon Corporation...Dharma of course has an octagonal logo.]"    --Bells

2) SAWYER-KATE
"What did Sawyer whisper to Kate? Did it have anything to do with returning to the island?"    --Julie

3) SAYID-HURLEY
"What was Sayid doing before he found Hurley? How did he know where Hurley was? Where is Sayid taking Hurley?"    --Julie

4) SMOKE MONSTER
What about the Black Cloud by the way?  --Mike

5) JIN-MICHAEL
"Did Jin and Michael survive? How will they treat the Island and the O6?"    --John

6) DHARMA VIDEOS
"Why do the VHS tapes from the Dharma stations still work when they've been exposed to electromagnetic energy?"    --Chris

7) JEREMY BENTHAM-LOCKE
"C
ouldn't figure out who Jeremy Bentham is. He supposedly died, and we are (I think) led to believe that Bentham is the one laid out in the coffin that Jack opens toward the end of the finale. But we see John Locke's body inside the coffin? Is Locke Bentham or is this another mystery for next season?"    --Margaret

8) MOVING THE ISLAND
"Where did the island go? Did it go into the future or into the past? We assume that when Ben "moved" the island, it didn't really move except that it moved in time. How many times has the island been moved in this manner?"    --Gary

9) CLAIRE
"Where is Claire? Are Claire, Jack and Locke siblings? No one knows who (Locke's) dad is, but I think that it is Christian."    --Anonymous

10) RAFT
"I seem to remember that, when the island disappeared, there was a raft full of people halfway between the it and the freighter, which had, of course, blown up. What do you suppose happened to them?"    --Rageed

I think that the island may still be in the same spot but that it is hidden by some constant time dimension. I think the island was already hidden that way but Faraday somehow knew (possibly from his research and helping Desmond) the bearings to use to get to the island. Maybe what Ben did by turning that crank was change the constant controlling the Time difference that made the island invisible to begin with. Maybe had something to do with those crazy numbers (4 8 15 16 23 42)? My guess is now they will need new bearings to get to the island.
Can I just say that I totally agree with Rocky Halifax!  This is a mystery show and in due time all of the questions will be answered!  JUST ENJOY THE SHOW!  Most of the questions that you guys are asking have been answered in previous episodes.  This is a very indepth show and if you miss one second of one episode you are...LOST...hence the title!  Just enjoy it!!  It is the best TV show I have ever seen and I love to be kept hanging until next season.  You can not honestly say that having who was in the coffin finally revealed wasn't such an awesome moment!!  I was leaning to the side as if I could actually look around the coffin lid to see who was inside!  And then I was screaming "WHAT THE HECK...IT'S LOCKE???  WHOA BABY I AM SOOOO LOST!!!"  JUST ENJOY THE SHOW!!!!!!  The writers/show don't "owe" us an explination to anything!  Just be happy that in two years we will know all the answers!!  In the mean time, enjoy the ride!!
Ok, here is my hypothesis based on some details from the Season 4 final episode.

1. The markings in the wall of the Island transport cave, indicate an ancient civilization... Since the city of Altantis was lost to the sea(or transported as in the case of the island) the island could be the remnants of the city. The transport system explains the reason for the polar bear in season 1, it might have been in the arctic circles  at some point. This can also explain to why the black rock was stranded on the island, most likely during a reappearance during 17-18th century. Another potential scenario, Since the island has been known to stay disappeared for a long time it could explain as to why Rousseau has been stuck on island for 16 years, Someone may have triggered the transport chamber after she crashed on the island. I'm not sure as to what was the time frame of the Dharma Initiative but it may took place during this time.

As for the others, they could be original inhabitants of lost city of Atlantis.  Its possible that they are immune to the effects of time.

2.  The Island seems to have some effect in memory loss as in the case of Desmond while being transported via helicopter to the freighter.  The show makes it clear that island didn't want Micheal to die, but released him from his obligation on the final episode. Now back to Jun, it is very possible due to the FF scene where Jun is buying a panda bear that he survives the explosion, maybe with a case of induced memory loss. It's quite possible that Sun & Jun will be reunited in an Desmond & Penny sort of epic scenario.

3.  Locke probably uses the island transport chamber to reposition the island, basically evicting him off the island just like the FF where Ben is disoriented &  kills 2 middle-eastern  soldiers in the desert.  He returns to the mainland, & uses the Jeremy alius to keep the O6 story alive & to fulfill some kind of mission.

4.  The island has a tendency to contact or "call" children who were born on the island, such as Charlotte & as in recent episodes Aaron. This might relate to some sort of prophecy...

The show really stretches your imagination!
This season was excellent.  The creative writing continues to amaze me as the story steadily appears.  As for the previous questions...the majority of those have already been answered.  Words of wisdom to the ADD-ridden casual viewers...this show is not for you.
and here is a little bone to chew on...who think's ben and whitmore could be brothers???  my husband and i think that it's possible!  what do you think?
If you want to find out what Sawyer said to Kate, check youtube...someone there has the tape and they were able to ' hear' what he said...its fascinating...and yes, its about his daughter....Same on youtube, youve got the audio of what kate was told on the phone about the island.

Some of the questions are dumb...I myself will also rent the DVDs from past seasons to catchup...The show does get confusing, but in so many ways I think its brilliant tv...

Just the way the used to use flashbacks and then switched to flashforwards of the 'real world' - and how future season will probably be the 'real world' in the present and the 'flashbacks' will be the island - a total reverse of the first season is brilliant.
Where did all of the "others" come from since they were the ones on the island before the dharma folks.
Among the things that many people are asking are the names.  Locke, Bentham, and Rousseau are the three major Social Contract philosophers.  Locke's ideas contributed to our constitution.  Nutshell version of the Social Contract - that we all agree to abide by certain rules (often administered by a 'government' or leader) and when we have issues with said leader we (people) have the right to get rid of the 'leader/government' and institute a new one.  An interesting discussion would be on the nature of the Contract in light of 1.  The characters Locke, Rousseau, and Bentham; 2.  The different philosophies of the actual men; and 3.  The way the characters approach the island.

Try searching 'Tabula Rasa'... see what pops up.  I'll bet you'll find John Locke.
5. Michael is dead...he prophetically came to the boat to die.
3. Before Sayid found Hurley in the alternate universe into which The O6 crossed after the Island went bye-bye, he was working for Ben.  Remember Ben's hit-list.  In this parallel dark universe (inspired by Star Trek's good and evil Captain Kirk) Sayid is sporting black leather, (again...thank you Star Trek).  He works for Ben.  So, all the non-island  characters are dark clones.  In Ben's case, it's tough to tell which side is darker; except maybe by Ben's sporty new dark hair (same creepiness) in the final episode.  They all need to reunite, merge, whatever - just like Kirk.  Gee, I wonder if the Island has a transporter room...hmm...with Ben traveling time, I think it does.  Beam me up Jacob!
What do you think Kate is sorry about? (When she is speaking to the sleeping Aaron?)
I'm anxious to hear the mystery behind the polar bear in the desert that Charlotte found with the Dharma collar around it's neck. Maybe it has something to do with where the island was moved to?...
Ok Claires' baby, aaron=big trouble, this is from the first season
The man who helped locke by giving him sawyers file so that locke would know that sawyer wanted to kill his father, this man shows up when locke is born and again when locke is still young in order to test him.  This all seems to have something to do with time and space, hence Daniel's(a physicist) fascination with the island.  I was convinced that this island was some type of purgatory, but before the start of this season the writers said absolutely that is not what is going on. The polar bear shows up in an archeological dig I think we are supposed to believe in africa, that happened this season, also when Ben leaves the island he shows up in africa, could the island be the center of the earth, interior of the earth?  Perhaps that plus the island is "out of phase" with the rest of the earth.  It is after Ben has Sayid kill certain people that the "Black Smoke Monster" shows up and kills the soldiers, is this some kind of "If I go back in time and kill my father I can never be born" paradox, hence the "black smoke monster" is the new timeline being implemented? some sort of correction to the present?  Remember that mind bending episode with desmond and daniel, remember the mouse, it knew the maze it wouldn't be taught for two hours so it remembered the future in the past thus the need for a "constant".  We assume certain things to be flashbacks and others flash forwards, but time is relative and we are never told explicitly when things are happening within the timeline.  The doctor washes up on the beach with his throat slit before it actually happens.  The "package" that turns out to be a clock that shows a different amount of time as being passed.
I think it's interesting how the name "Bentham" sounds similar to "Benthic", which is the word for things coming from the bottom of the ocean. Marine life from the bottom of the ocean is called "Benthos", so I wonder if Locke's new name reflects his relationship with the ocean around them. (not to mention the name "Ben" also!)
Christian could also be Locke's dad. Lets not focus on the age cuz the night locke's mom got in an accident, locke's grandma told her "what are u doing seeing this guy twice your age" I def believe Locke is still alive, just not in his material body, and has taken the role of the unexplainable force maybe known as Jacob.
I think people are dead on about Jin and Michael - Jin lives, Michael dies.  I don't think Christian is Locke's father, but here's an interesting point - in a flash forward, Jack is at the hospital and one of the nurses says his father is upstairs and would like to see him.  Isn't Christian dead at that point?  A couple other questions that have been bugging me also - 1) What was Libby doing in the same mental hospital as Hurly? 2) In the episode where Jack has his appendix removed, he's shown in a flash forward in bed without a shirt on and he has no scar.  Just something else to chew on, as if we need more with all the questions already.
Jin could in fact be dead. When he was shown buying the bear for his boss's kid that was a flashback not a flashforward.  What made it confusing was that it was intercut with a flashforward of Sun.  But the bear buying happened before the island.
i just cant believe that Locke is in the coffin. Especially in that season he never tought of leaving the island and he was the one who told Jack that they should stay in the island. I'm pretty sad right now, i mean seeing Locke in the coffin was a complete nightware to Locke fans like me..
Didn't we see the island disappear??  If it simply moved to another time, the physical island should have remained with 'time' changing for inhabitants!!!
*Imporatant* Dont get hung up on the name Jeremy Bentham, and that the character was John Locke in the coffin. Good Morning America showed the various 3 endings to the season finale where both Sawyer and then Sayid were filmed in the coffin as well (to prevent the information from getting leaked out before the broadcast). The dialogue never changed about the reference to Jeremy Bentham though. This type of planning from the writers is typical and dates back to "Dallas" (television drama) where many cast members were filmed to have "Shot J.R." to maintain the confidentiality before airing.
Theories -

1)The fact that the pseudonym Jeremy Bentham was used for Locke tells me that Locke has gone from man of faith to man of science - look up the philosophies of the two actual people.

2)Jacob = Alpert.  Who else doesn't age, and has been involved in some way in recruiting people to either come to the island or do the bidding of the island (note how he manipulated Ben and Locke)

3)Jin is not dead.  Nobody actually saw him die - including Sun and the rest of the O6.  He's still on the island.  The mindtrip people refer to where Jin is delivering a gift to a minister, was actually a flashback interspersed with the flash forward of Sun giving birth.

4) The octagon commercial (thanks lostpedia) is most likely the start of the new ARG, as it takes place at the same time and in the same city as Comicon.

5) Locke gets off the island next seaon, and he either dies halfway through the season, with the other half focused on them going to the island, or he dies at the end of the season, and 6 is about them going back to the island.
Could Charlette and Faraday be the grown up versions of the boy (with the teddybear) and girl tken by the others from the tailsection ?
Somehow Locke is Jacob, I'm still not sure about Jeremy. Perhaps Jacob is a disembodied Locke and bringing his body back will allow him to become Locke again. If you pause during the split frame when Jacob first appears, it is clearly Locke's profile and bald head. Upon returning to the cabin Jacob is no longer there, i believe he is afraid to talk to himself (time/space continuum problem) I'm not sure weather Ben knows this or not.

The island could have changed locations, or time, or both, as it seems to have the ability to move people through both (Ben, Desmond, Richard) why not the island itself?

Could Charlotte be the young girl that Ben first met on the island as a kid? I need to go back and watch that episode and listen for her name.
I watch every episode about 3 or 4 times in abc.com and I don't know if anyone else has noticed but in the new "lost" commercial the island's reflection is a city.  I think it's been moved not just in time but also location. Also, Ben can't get back because he can't find it, that's why he needs the oceanic 6 to get him back in.
Anyone bother to google Jeremey Bentham yet?  Turns out, he was an economist.  Hmm...
That is absolutly the problem I have.........if you don't keep up with the show then don't make comments about how the show is frusterating and you don't "get it" your just making yourself look foolish
Hello all, I really enjoyed the ending and can't wait to see the new episodes.  I am looking forward to watching the repeats to assist me with some of my own questions.  I am however a little surprised at the attitudes of some.  If someone writes in and is confused about something on this show which can happen. (so many things go on with so many characters) I would of expected a little guidance not the insults I have been reading.  I apologize to those who have been insulted for questions that could have been answered and some we just have to wait for.
What about the episode where Faraday read from his journal that Desmond Hume would be his constant? Do you think that Faraday is caught in the time vortex that plagued the people on the freighter?
Locke's and Ben's mother do have the same name, Emily L., but they are not the same person. Ben's mother died giving birth. Locke's mother lived and was committed to the same hospital that Hurley was in. Also, she approached Locke at the discount store and started him searching for his father, Anthony Cooper.

When the island moved the smaller island that held the Hydra station also disappeared suggesting that the effect had a radius that could have included Faraday's raft.

The O6 are going to be hunted because they know the truth of the fake 815 and the island. This will convince them that they have to return.
Sun is approaching Widmore because he has resources and is looking for the island as well although for his own purposes. If he finds it it will be a race to claim it.

Cassidy was a woman Sawyer conned and had a child, Clementine, with. When Sawyer conned a fellow inmate into revealing where he hid the loot of his crime, Sawyer received a cash reward and an early release. He had the money put into a trust for his daughter in a bank in Albuquerque.
Locke and Ben can't have the same mothers. Ben's mother  died and Locke's is still alive.
From Lostpedia dot com, Clementine Phillips is the illegitimate daughter of Cassidy Phillips and James Ford, aka Sawyer. In "Every Man for Himself", Cassidy visits Sawyer in prison and shows him a picture of Clementine, who she claims is his daughter, and tells him that they are living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Sawyer denies paternity, and demands to know why Cassidy is visiting him; she answers only that she wants Sawyer to write a letter to Clementine.

So, perhaps Sawyer has asked Kate to write a letter to Clementine on his behalf.
well I have another question well its not a question per se but whatever ... Has anybody else is as "Lost" as I am while corroborating the whole 4 seasons in total. I mean I still an not able to make sense of the counter thingy, than the man who tricked Desmond into base station who was he was he one of "the others". What was the intention of Ben to get Sawyer and Kate along with Jack when it was only Jack he needed for surgery and even if for argument sake we say that eh needed someone to blackmale Jack to do his surgery than why Kate and Sawyer , why not anybody else, is it because he was aware of the ongoing chemistry between the trio. And I can't even begin to think the logic behind Kate and Sawyer working in field. To top it all now in fourth season it is being alluded that the O6 that survived belong to island and they should have remained in the Island like everybody else, if that is the case than why the hell they were treated like outsiders in the first place by "the others", remember one of "the otehrs" said it's our island. I may be wrong but I always feel that writers of lost were onto something else, they had the story from the beginning but they deliberately inserted some elements to create suspense and now they themselves are "Lost" while filling up those dots and spaces so much so that while joining they have forgotten some of the fill in the black..what about Walt ..he shows up like ghost at various point than while Michael was held by "others" one of the lady(which in subsquent episode was held by Lock Kate and Sayid while they were on rescue mission of Jack) came up to him and asked whether he feels that there is something about Walt, he shows at various places...what was that about and then suddenly Walt shows up and ask Lock to get up when he was shot by Ben ....then there is Ben who said that not all the decision is made by him ...I can't understand his relationship with Jacob as of now.. is it like initially he was the blue eyed boy till Lock came into the picture and now he is no more Jacob's favourite ..
Phew ..there are lots of things that bugs me about the whole body of the show in all.... I am a big fan of this show but still there are many thins that I don't find convincing ......
A lot of these questions dealing with technicalities (i.e. VHS tapes being destroyed by electromagnetism or a doctor discovering Jack's surgery) shouldn't need to be answered because there should be some sort of suspended belief for the viewer. For crying out loud, they just moved 6 mile square chunk of mass, maybe things are just a bit different on the island, maybe Jack's physical was performed by a physician in the loop. People are silly.
and ye not he least convincing it the sudden mannerism of Jack to tell people to lie ..ya he gave argument about the safety of people in island and blah blah..but it looked like more of a puppy of writer behind the show, to make the whole mess sensible .....
and there is one more ..how did Lock's kidney duper father turned up in island at right time and right place...also the Sawyer also co-incidentally met Lock who led him to his father and viola Sawyer discovers that he was the fraud he was looking for so many years ....
There are such a thing as floating islands.  If the island can float then time travel would cause it to disappear or reappear depending on how far and fast it floats and how far in the future or back in the past one traveled....?????

Floating island

This article is about the natural phenomenon. For floating island in fiction, see Floating island (fiction). For the dessert, see Floating island (dessert).

Uros islandA floating island is a mass of floating aquatic plants, mud, and peat ranging in thickness from a few inches to several feet. Floating islands are a common natural phenomenon that are found in many parts of the world. They exist less commonly as a man-made phenomenon. Floating islands are generally found on marshlands, lakes, and similar wetland locations, and can be many hectares in size.

When they occur naturally they are sometimes referred to as tussocks, floatons, or sudds. Natural floating islands are composed of vegetation growing on a buoyant mat consisting of plant roots or other organic detritus.

They typically occur when growths of cattails, bulrush, sedge, and reeds extend outward from the shoreline of a wetland area. As the water gets deeper the roots no longer reach the bottom, so they use the oxygen in their root mass for buoyancy, and the surrounding vegetation for support to retain their top-side-up orientation[citation needed]. The area beneath these floating mats is exceptionally rich in aquatic lifeforms. Eventually, storm events tear whole sections free from the shore, and the islands thus formed migrate around a lake with changing winds, eventually either reattaching to a new area of the shore, or breaking up in heavy weather.

Natural floating islands may have been the source of many "disappearing island" legends, such as those surrounding the Isle of Avalon.

Floating artificial islands are generally made of bundled reeds, and the best known examples are those of the Uros people of Lake Titicaca, Peru, who build their villages upon what are in effect huge rafts of bundled totora reeds. The Uros originally created their islands to prevent attacks by their more aggressive neighbours, the Incas and Collas. The Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan, was surrounded with chinampas, small artificial islands used for agriculture known as "floating gardens" (though not really floating). Spiral Island was a more modern one-person effort of constructing an artificial floating island in Mexico.

The British wartime Project Habakkuk proposed the construction of aircraft carriers made of ice-like Pykrete. Its size and speed made it more an artificial iceberg or island than a ship.
I'd like to know what happened to the second island--the one with the hydra station and the animal cages.  Did the others fake that or did it also move?
Responding to Jin still being alive: I suppose that it is possible.  However, the proof of the "flash-forward showing Jin buying a panda for his boss's newborn" is inaccurate.  That particular episode followed Sun in a flash-forward but it was a flashback for Jin.  It was meant to trick you. But it was definitely a flashBACK for Jin. At the very end Jin tells the nurse he is not even married.  His personality is definitely the old Jin as well, very tempermental.
Reference to the comment about jin being alive. In that episode there was a split between a flash forward - sun having her baby, and a flash back jin trying to find a panda for his boss daughter, it was clearly done like this to make you think jin was finding the panda in the future for sun, and was alive, which is revealed as false at the end when sun goes to jins grave.
There was not a flash forward with Jin.  Earlier in the season, it was a flashforward with Sun intertwined with a FLASHBACK of Jin (which you were supposed to think was a flashforward until they revealed otherwise).
Sawyer may have told Kate his real name prompting her to ask, "why are you telling me this now?" He could possibly also be Jack's brother (there was a remarkable resemblance of Claire's son with Sawyer. Just some thoughts...
1. what is the black cloud and don't forget the creature that killed the pilot.

The smoke monster is the black cloud and it killed the pilot. Juliet explained ages ago that it is the island's defense mechanism. Ben seems to be able to summon it - but not necessarily control it.

2. If Locke is Jeremy Bentham, then why do Jack, Kate and others refer to him as Jeremy Bentham and not John Locke.

They are using the Bentham because of the cover story. Bentham is obviously a false name that Locke uses - just like Ben who had many passports etc with different names.

3. How did Locke(& ben) get off the island?

I'm not positive we know the answer to this yet - but it's obvious Ben and Richard have left the island. Even the other (can't think of his name now) who went to see Michael said that a few of them can leave the island when they want to. Ben only said that if someone MOVES the island - he/she cannot return. As the new leader of the Others - Locke would be taught their secrets.

4. Jin definitly survives...there was a flash forward in a previous episode showing Jin buying a panda bear for his boss's new born

That was a flash back for Jin. Sun's part of the episode was a flash forward - Jin's was a flash back. So no this does not mean he survived.

5. And what happen to the polar bear that Sawyer killed on the island in the second (?) episode? Noooo explanation.....

The animals present on the island were brought there by the Dharma Initiative - for their experiments.

6. one of the first things to happen would be to give them all a physical. Wouldn't a doctor know how old the scar on Jack's stomach is and the that the wound  was not from the plane crash but from a surgery?

Since the doctor would most likely come from Oceanic ... who is in on the cover story - then the doctor would know - but he's not going to tell anyone.

I hope these help - it seems to me some people actually need to pay more attention to the show! I only watch the show - I don't participate in the website experiences and all that - but still some of these questions seem to indicate people aren't actually watching. The show requires quite a bit from a viewer - which is what I like about it.
To Rocky of Nova Scotia:  I COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER MYSELF!!!!!  I was reading all the entries and getting more and more angry at the so-called "fans" that ask the most ridiculous questions, while seeminging skipping over the true unanswered ones! This is truly the best drama on television and one of the very few that don't talk "down" to us.  It is mystical, dramatic, thought-provoking symbolism and I love it!  Perhaps those of you that don't "get it" should watch a movie called "Idiocracy" - it's about what happens (comically) if we continue to dumb down our society. Not a GREAT movie, but the plot makes a good point.  Lost's season finale was spot on - answering questions and giving us more to look forward to for next fall!
Regarding Locke using an alias - hello, people!!!  There were only supposed to be 6 survivors!  If he was using his real name, and since his name was on the flight manifest, then it would be known that there were more survivors!!!  If you are a fan of the show, how could you even ask such a dumb question?
couldn't Jeremy have been a "twin" of Locke? Another person entirely?
Jin is alive.   When Sun gives birth to Jeon, you see Jin going to the hospital with a panda....except it's not for Sun...it's for the grandchild of one of the gangsters he worked for previously.
I can say without reserve that Lost is the best show I have ever watched.  It is incredibly intelligent and keeps you thinking until the next episode airs.  These are my views on the finale.

Sawyer whisperred a location of a stash he has hidden in the "world".....don't forget, he's a con-man.  That would justify Kate's reaction, "Why are you telling me this?!"

Faraday's raft picks up Jin from the water.  The shot of the boat just before it explodes has nobody on deck.  Micheal is toast.  Not only does Cristian "allow" him to die, but Hurley hints to his death with his eyes when Walt meets him at the sanitarium. So in my opinion, in three years Hurley hasn't heard otherwise.

Ben is a pure bad-ass, and could make quick work of anybody on the cast-list......even Sayid.  He didn't waste a breath on Keamy when he disarmed and killed him.

As for the skeptics, tune into a dumber show.  That's what you want to watch.  The whole idea of Lost is unanswered questions and mystery!  Think of how incredible the series finale will be when we are finally all let in on the secrets of the Island!
The Oceanic 6 said in the press conference that there were no other survivors.  Locke has to use another name when he somehow gets off the island.  He's looking for the six because something happens when they left the island.

Sayid buried his wife because she was murdered...Ben meets him w/dharma jacket on (after he moves the island).

Connection with Jack:  Jack went to Australia to retrive his father's body and bring it back to the US for burial..which was never completed.  Now he has to return Locke's body to the island.
Okay Jeanne from Exeter, CA...you are utterly and completely wrong. Anthony Cooper is Locke's dad, not Sawyer's. Anthony is the man who conned Sawyer's parents. And whoever started the whole rant about Locke's father and who he is, you are an idiot. WE ALREADY KNOW WHO HIS FATHER IS! And Megha Mehta and Rocky Halifax, you are seriously the only intelligent people on this page. Most of the things the rest of you are saying don't even make the slightest bit of sense! Ridiculous people...get a freaking clue.
Jeanne: Anthony Cooper is not Sawyers dad, he's the con man responsible for the deaths of his parents.

Rachel: Jin giving the panda to his boss's new born was a flash BACK, not a flash forward. Therefore it is still unclear whether he's alive or not.
Any thoughts on the significance of Aaron?  If they all must go back, is he included?  What about Kate's dream where Claire instructed her not to bring Aaron back to the island?
