A travesty on 'So You Think You Can Dance'

Filed Under:

Last Thursday morning, I turned to TV editor Gael Fashingbauer Cooper and said, “Next week, I’m going to write about how Will is going to win ‘So You Think You Dance.’” Little did I realize the travesty that was in store that evening when the sweet (and, thankfully, often shirtless) Will got sent packing, along with female contestant Comfort.

OK, full disclosure here. I am one of those reality show watchers who never votes, yet always complains if the results don’t go my way. Annoying yes, but somehow, I think that if I don’t vote during the show, I somehow hang on to my fragile dignity (which tends to erode with some reality TV viewing, um, “Two Coreys,” anyone?).

Fox
Will dances with Katee on "So You Think You Can Dance."

But Will? He was technically one of the best dancers – and, let’s face it, he has sex appeal.  I did have a moment watching last Thursday night’s show where I wondered whether I had been blinded by Will’s great body into thinking that he was a better dancer than he actually is.  But is the not-even-in-the-bottom-two-last-week Mark really a stronger dancer? No way. Likeable? Yes.  More talented? No.

The thing about “So You Think You Can Dance” is that, unlike “American Idol,” all the contestants are likeable. Every year, I always end up despising almost all the “Idol” wannabes. Hearing those cloying kids appear in Ford ads and sing songs from Broadway or Neil Diamond does nothing to endear them to me. Meanwhile, on “SYTYCD,” you get to see the sweat and work that the dancers put into each number and it’s hard not to admire them. Even Comfort, a dancer who I thought deserved to go home, really impressed with her drive, her athletic ability and her willingness to go so far outside her (no pun intended) comfort zone.

The show itself is more enjoyable than most reality shows. Instead of being assaulted with karaoke versions of the songs, they just use the originals. Yes, sometimes the artists are sort of dull, such as Celine Dion or John Mayer, but you also get music as varied as Santagold, Brother Yusef and Simian Mobile Disco. (Here’s a good full list of the songs from this season.) And, those Latin dances – yeah, the show actually uses appropriate music (unlike the more popular “Dancing With the Stars” which assaults us with dances set to the Monday Night Football theme).

As for those “jidges” (as Cat Deeley would say)? They’re not too bad either. Yes, Mary Murphy yelling about “the hot tamale train” can get old, but the fact that she seems to know her stuff puts her well above Paula Abdul. Nigel is a tad creepy (he does seem to like those skimpy outfits a bit too much), but he also is a slightly less acidic version of Simon. The guest judges vary in quality with last week’s Tony “it’s so street” Basil being one of the season’s worst. But, wow, if you want really poor judging, just turn on “America’s Got Talent” or “Shear Genius.” Ugh.

And now that dear, sweet Will is gone who will win? Well, I’m putting my money on either Katee or Joshua. And even if one of those two goes home this week, guess what? I’ll still be watching. Because though it may be a bit embarrassing to admit to people, I actually like this show.

Having my druthers I would really rather watch Dancing than Idol. The singers on Idol, for the most part fall into two categories; rockers (that term is used loosely) and the Whitney/Mariah wannabes. The dancers on SYTYCD have to learn all types of dance and there's not a lot of leeway with regards to steps though interpretation is wide open.

I used to like Mary Murphy but I really wish she'd tone it down a notch. When she speaks in a normal tone of voice, she's very knowledgeable about dance but her yelling causes me to reach for the mute button.

I do like Nigel and don't get tired of hearing him speak. Again, he's very knowledgeable and I like the fact that he admits to not like certain dance types but he can judge them fairly.

I miss Dan Kerrity on the judge's panel this year but like the husband and wife team.

They teach hip-hop but their names escape me. Mia Michaels, though supremely talented reminds me of an unmade bed.

For dance technique, no one beats Wade Robson (I hope I got his name right). I really look forward to Thursday night hoping that he'll choreograph the opening number. Shane Sparks is marvelous too.

As for Miss Deeley, I think she's so likeable and charming however her outfits and hairdos have got to go!
I like this show too, but I've completely lost interest now that Will is gone.  He had, IMO, the best training, the most talent, and showed the biggest potential to be a principal dancer in the future.  All the things this show purports to look for.  I wish they wouldn't leave it 100% up to the audience in the final rounds - I like when the jidges choose from the bottom three.

When Will was voted off, SYTYCD was voted off my TiVO for the rest of the year.

By the way, "Mary Murphy yelling...can get old"?  Seriously - it's been old for a long time now.  She's completely annoying.  I don't care how much she knows about ballroom dance - if she can't communicate it in a way we can hear and/or tolerate, what's the point?  TiVO comes in handy with this show - I watched the dances, formed my own opinions, and fast forwarded through Nigel's creepy old man comments and Mary's shrieking and insane and meaningless laughing.
Every time Mary Murphy screams, I want to punch her in the face.  Other than that I like the show.
I'm an avid fan of SYTYCD and agree that Will is one of the most talented dancers that has been in any of the seasons, but I was anxious to see him go.  Reason - from the first show he was touted as "Debbie Allen's protege" and practically shoved down the viewer's throats.  The judges gushed, Allen blushed and Will soaked it in.  The favoritism was smothering.  It's pretty apparent that viewers get turned off and focus on the other dancers, who have to compete with this type of promotion.

Yes, Will is probably the best dancer competing, he's likeable and hot.  But American viewers aren't going to cooperate in this type of sham.
I must agree. I was shocked when Will was sent packing. WTH? But even Twitch being one of the bottom two was a groaner.

I am getting very tired of Mary's act. Please, someone put her on the tamale train! Cat Deeley is a great host, and I don't mind Nigel, he's British, what can you say.
With Will gone, it hardly seems right.
If Twitch gets the boot, then all is lost.
Will was definitely the best technical dancer. But since the voting audience chooses the winner, that's not enough to win. It's purely a popularity contest. Which is a shame. But I wouldn't necessarily want the judges to pick, either. Sometimes their opinion is completely opposite mine - heaping praise upon someone I thought was lackluster, and damning someone I thoroughly enjoyed watching.

As for Mary, I think she needs to just shut up. When she cackles and shrieks, I just want to lock her in a room with that ad guy, Billy Mays. What a couple they'd make, eh?

But regardless of all that, I love the show, and will keep watching (and turning Mary waaaay down). Oh, and not voting, just like Paige. :-)
Hello the show is not about the BEST dancer it is about the most popular dancer. The audience didn't like Will has much as the judges and dance purists - I wonder why?
The Hawaii factor is what is keeping Mark in the competition, as far as I can tell.  It's the same thing that got Jasmine Trias into the Top 3 on Idol Season 3 when she clearly wasn't good enough to be there.  The whole state goes crazy when one of their own is on national TV.  My wife and I were in Hawaii while Season 3 of Idol was going on, and the two Hawaiian contestants that made it into the Top 12 were all you ever saw on TV or the newspapers or heard about on the radio there.

Mark should have been gone last week.  Instead a MUCH better dancer is gone.
I too was stunned when Will got axed. He is just superior. But, it could be as Nigel says and people quit voting when they think a favorite is primed to win it. Will has an outstanding career ahead of him.

I did love Twitch and Katee's dance. It was a genuine performance and it was hot.

You get involved with these dancers and you can see that they work their butts off. They are very likeable people. This show is far superior to DWTS. DWTS is an assault on your senses. The judges suck. The music does not go along with the type of dance. And those spray tans........yuck!

I would also have to agree about the judges, Mary can get annoying with her shrieking, but I like her, Toni Basil has got to GO, but quite frankly I think Nigel is funny and on target. I believe they do judge fairly because they actually know what they're talking about. I also think Cat Deeley is a doll and an excellent host. She almost seems like a den mother to all of the dancers. I can't believe she didn't get chosen for an Emmy nom.

Even when I get ticked off when one of my favorites is tossed, I'll keep watching. I'm addicted to the show.  Besides, it has made me get up off the couch and start dancing!!!
This is my favorite reality show and I got hooked in the first season when it was still quiet and not talked about. I agree that all of the dancers are likeable and though I wasn't very fond of Comfort, I had a lot of respect for her. I think that Chelsea is amazing and if I had to pick a favorite it would be her... but Twitch, Mark, Joshua, Katiee and Courtney are all really good too. I can't vote for any of them because I think that they all deserve to win. Unlike American Idol where I always have a favorite and am sad if they leave, I'm sad when anyone leaves at this point in SYTYCD!! Bravo to them all :)
While Will is probably the most technically proficient dancer on the show, Joshua, Mark, & Twitch are much more effervescent.  I enjoy watching Joshua, Mark, & Twitch much more so than Will despite his technical proficiency.
I like the show too, this is my first year, however, watching past tryouts.  My first experience was a couple of seasons back with some platinum bottle blonde, dressed like a psychotic cross between the go-gos and flashdance, did her thing and then puked on stage.. I stayed away, but this season, I loved Twitch and Joshua in the beginning, but I have had my money on Joshua since I think the 3rd week, he and Katee I think are the best out there...Will was fantastic, and I think mark should've went home first also. I DVR the show and watch later whether I am home or not, because Mary Murphy's voice finds that spot in your spine that just makes me want to cringe. so I never hear what she has to say because her screaming totally grates my nerves.
Ugh, I'm so tired of hearing people bemoan Will's departure.  Yes, he was technically a great dancer, but there is more to dancing than just technique.  He was unable to really convey the emotion of any dance or relate to any of his partners because he's so unbelievably arrogant.  His pompous attitude came through in every performance and kept me from being able to enjoy his dancing.  I think this is why viewers didn't get behind him and vote for him.  Remember, he was in the bottom 3 numerous times, but kept getting saved by the jidges (who only kept inflating his ego with their over the top praise).  I truly enjoy all 6 of the remaining dancers.  I think they are talented and they dance with a lot of heart and soul.  Katee is my pick to win it all.
I have been watching SYTYCD since the second season and love this show for so many reasons.  It seems odd that a show can bring family together - but this show does.  My oldest daughter was off at college - living her own life - but our shared love of dance brought us together on the phone each night the show was on.  We would share comments and critques, indignation at the judges wrong choices, and joy when they got it right.  I admire the talent and hard work of the dancers.  They are not just performers - these people are talented athletes, artistic and creative.  It is wonderful to have the option to watch such an imaginative and fulfilling show.  Yes, I wish that Will had not been voted off.  I thought he would walk off with the season for sure (however my own personal favorite is the ever-quirky Mark) but that is what happens when you leave it to the audience to choose.  They do not always pick who you would like.  I only wish they would continue the practice of letting America vote - and then the judges make the final decision.  The panel is made up of people who KNOW dance and know what they are looking for.  It seems like a pretty good balance when it works that way.  As for who I think will win - I think if it is based on dance - then Katee should win (but then again I though Travis should have won, and Danny last year) - but if it is based on viewer popularity - then I think it will be Twitch.  I love to watch Joshua dance - but I would be surprised if his personality carried him through to the top spot.  I would love to see someone as original as Mark win, but I doubt America would be that brave.  Whatever dancer wins, we the viewers are the real winners because we get to share in such a special show.
Love the show.  I will miss Will, I think he was incredibly talented.  Now that he's gone, I'm rooting for Katee.  And I'm with you Jason from St. Louis - every time Mary Murphy opens her mouth, I turn the sound off.  She is like a baboon on crack.
My husband and I LOVE this show--because it IS so real. Like Christine, we really prefer the judges to decide who to go home out of the bottom contestants.

You really get to know the personalities and they are so sincere about their love of dance. We also love the fact that this is a showcase whereby they can move on to other avenues for themselves, so when they are voted off, it isn't the end but the beginning for them. (Perhaps Debbie will now become a judge for one week? -- It's possibly why Will received so little votes--having that edge...)

Like everyone else, we will continue to watch until the end, hoping against hope that Twitch will pull it out. But we are relieved by the fact that he will get a chance to further himself through this show, as they all will...
'Robin' from 'Las Vegas....you are nuts!  I was agreeing with you until you talked about Miss Deeley's 'look'.  I think she dresses cute and her hair-do's are cute too!  Maybe its because she is so charming that it out-weighs what she wears.  She sure is a tall woman.  She's got to be 6' with heels on...

And WILL should NOT have went home.  Twitch should have went home before Will.
I certainly agree that Mark should have been out long before Will, but at this point, it doesn't really matter.  They have all received their TV time, training and exposure to the choreographers who will hire and/or recommend them for jobs.  They will all be included on the tour (they say the top ten, but they really take about fifteen to account for specialty and group dances, solos, and substitutes for injuries.)  They are already winners and their careers have been jump-started.
I was going to cry whether it was Josh, Will or Twitch - Josh & Will being my favs. But Twitch has come so far, I'm so impressed w/him. As for the girls - Comfort didn't quite cut it in most of the other dance forms so I was ready for her to go. I can't really decide who I like best of the 3 girls, they are all so talented & seem so nice. It's to the point that there are no clear favs for me. I do think (sorry!) it's time for Mark to go.
While I think that Will has excellent form and ability, he lacked something.  He failed to connect with any of his partners.  This show requires the dancer to not only perform solos but to partner dance weekly. I did not feel as I watched that he was able to flow with his partner.  In dance, it is important for the two dancers to become one.  Will was not able to perform this task weekly.
Each week that he failed to connect with a partner, the partner was blamed. Look what happened to Jessica and he never spoke up.  He lacked humility.  Something he most certainly needs.
I thought his technique was wonderful.  I thought his athletic skill was amazing.  I was even sad to see him go.  I just wish that I had seen a bit more fire in his dancing.  I never felt or saw soul in his movements.
This is why it was time for him to go.
Although I agree that the show is about dancing the popularity factor is also essential. When you see a dancer that is talented and emotes whatever feeling the dance is going for and they play to an audience it makes all the difference. I think Mark is good but he doesn't draw me in, for me he just doesn't have that little extra that I need to pick him as a fav. Joshua has the incredibly cute smile & tooshy, Twitch is a character & Will just seemed to embrace whatever dance he was performing...
I really think the reason that Will went home, despite the fact that he's the best male dancer this season, is because of his solo on Wednesday night.  He didn't really dance; he did a James Brown impression.  Entertaining though it was, it wasn't dancing.  And then the judges gave him a frakking standing ovation.  For him to seemingly expend so little effort and receive so much adoration, especially when you could see other dancers giving everything they had in their solos, made him seem rather arrogant.

However, I still think he's immensely talented, and I have no doubt that he'll do quite well as a dancer even without winning this competition.
Will was awesome! Watching the show is a family event, and we all love it! Growing up, I studied nine years of ballet and simply watch in awe of the talent on the show. I hope Will knows that it was one of those weird things that because he was so good, America figured he would have enough votes. What a sad moment. He also was so gracious when he lost, it made my respect for him all the more.
If you don't spark people to get up and vote, then you go home. Personality goes along with dancing. It shows through in every move. Bottom line is, yes Will was one of the best technical dancers on the show. Yet his performances last week didn't show his personality. The James Brown routine ignored everything that got him through previous weeks. You couldn't see his movements in that outfit, it was aweful.

I have always said that it would be Will and Katee to choose from, now I think you know my pick.
LOVE this show.  I even find myself smiling at Mary Murphy.  And I just love Nigel.  Miss Wade Robson.

I wanted to see Twitch, Joshua, and Will in the top four along with Katee.  I do like Mark, but he doesn't come close to Will's talent.

Well I agree with most everything everyone has said. This show is so great i get to hear songs that they don't play on my radiostation also listen again to songs that i may have written off. Mia Michaels makes me want to dance. she is so creative, her interpretations of songs are amazing. I hated Will leaving but i think his personality or lack of is what sealed his fate.
For what it's worth, Will has been trained by one of the best dancers, Debbie Allen and therefore, had a huge advantage.  Even the judges liked him just because he was a student of Debbie Allen.

However, Joshua and Twitch learned by watching, etc.  That's what interests me - who does it with heart.  Remember last year's winner, Sabra?  Dancing for only 4 years and what feeling and precision!!

As for me - It's Katee all the way!
I am so glad that Will went home. Hearing the judges talk every single week about how fabulous and talented and wonderful he was got so old! And yes, he was techincally good, but I never got a vibe from him that make me think, WOW!

I am super excited to see that Mark would be staying for at least another week. He is so much fun to watch. And I'd rather watch something fun and enjoyable, than technically correct and boring.

Who do I want to win Season 4 of SYTYCD? Mark or Chelsie, definitely.
I actually love the show, even with Will gone.  I always felt bad for his partners, because they always seemed to be inferior counterparts that were dragging him down.

He'll definitely have a career beyond the show (and, don't forget, he is still going on the tour with them).  And isn't a career the ultimate goal in shows like this?

Also, am I the only one who thinks Mary Murphy should be the lost Osmond sister?
I think this season is lacking something, but I can't quite put my finger on it. The judges are different this season, there is more favoritism, and Mary does get worse each season! I don't really care about Will or that he went home, even though it was a shock.

I feel like the judges don't put as much emphasis on solos right now. I mean, Benji won because his solos ROCKED, and Anya from last season went home because her solos didn't. Currently, it seems like all the judges care about is playing up their favorites and tearing down the rest. I'm disappointed to say the least, yet I can't turn the TV off. As twisted as this season is, I just love to watch people dance. They're amazing.
I loved watching Will dance; the man could tear it up out there. However, I didn't like his "personality" so much. I know that it's a small step from confidence to cockiness but for me, he exuded arrogance and condascension, like the show was beneath him. His celebrations and interactions with the rest of the cast seemed forced at times. To be honest, I never quite liked him after the judges were tearing into his partner Jessica yet again and he gave a bland noncommittal answer that wouldn't anger them or stick up for her; no gentleman would do that. Again, Will is extraordinarily talented but I think too many people, himself included, were handing him the crown before the first show aired. I'm glad we can now focus on those who haven't already made it. :)
I was so sad about Will leaving.  I have to disagree about him having trouble relating to the audience or his partner.  I felt the connection every time he danced.  But, that said, nothing, not even getting voted off, will stop him from rising to the top of the dance field.  He has the backing, the talent and the training.  Some of the others don't have the backing of Debbie Allen or a top notch dance academy and this is their chance to get that.

Right now my vote still rests with Joshua, based not only on his dance but his personality and drive.  I hold him up, and truly the other dancers as well, as a great role model for my 12 year old son.

I can't wait for the tour.  Tickets go on sale Saturday!!
I just love this show. Remember folks, as stated by Kat, the show is to find America's most popular, not the best dancer.
I just love the 6 remaining ones and they all got their moments.
Joshus with Katee for their Broadway and Hip Hop routines
Mark and Chelsie for their Bleeding Love and Tango routines
Twitch and Katee for their Mia Michaels dance
Courtney had great routines with Lost, the samba and the cha cha
I would like to see Mark, Joshua, Katee and Chelsie.
Then I wouldn't care who wins.
It's so great to see everyone involved in a dance show and giving it the recognition it deserves.  The kids on SYTYCD work so hard really put themselves out there when on stage.  Even though Jessica wasn't the strongest performer, she went for weeks with a broken rib!

Will is a great loss to the show.  But if you didn't vote for him dont' blame his leaving on eveyone else.  Even the writer of the article doesn't vote, so don't complain or be shocked when someone leaves.

Mary Murphy is loud, but she has energy and is entertaining.  Tony Basil was so self absorbed...every critique started with a fact about herself (she was one of the origional "lockers"??).  Her ONE good point was that Twitch danced better then Broadway dancers because he dances from the inside out!  I can't decide between Twitch and Katie!  The final is going to be crazy!!!!
While I thought Mark should have gone, I still don't think Will should have won it all.  Yes the judges love him, and maybe they're right that he is the best dancer, but Nigel should know enough to know America also loves personality.

I TOTALLY disagree with the people who consider Will arrogant.  He strikes me as shy.  Joshua and Twitch are just the opposite, which makes it so easy to cheer them on.  As for me, I just loved the Katie/Joshua pairing, so I'm rooting for one of them them to go all the way.  I'd also like to see a street dancer take it, and I love Twitch's solos, so I'd be happy with him as well.

Love Napoleon and Tabitha, but where the heck is Shane Sparks????
I LOVE SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE DANCE DANCE!!!

I thought it was unfair that the judges constantly criticized Jessica and put Will on a pedastal.  She may have had her moments of shame, but she also had her moments of greatness.  I really feel the judges were so enthralled by Will that they picked on Jessica unmerecilessly, and Will let them.  Mary said point blank he needs a new partner and he didn't say a word.  Will was a great dancer, and I think Mark deserved to leave before him, but I'm glad Twitch is still there.  Joshua is great to watch, but he cries to much for me.  Twitch is definitley my pick for the guys.

As far as the girls, it is between Katee and Chelsie.  They are both talented, humble, and beautiful.  Courtney is great, but she doens't have as much of a spark as the other two.
I was shocked too that Will got voted off. And I think Twich was too because when he was the second name and kinda fell apart you could tell he honestly thought it'd be him going home. Comfort needed to go for a long time, not that she doesnt try but she wasnt even remotely equal to the rest of the dancers and brought her partners down. For me I Hope Joshua wins, watching a man that large move the way he does is simply amazing.
I agree that Will was the most technically proficient dancer out there but not the most liked.  His personality doesn't shine through like some of the other dancers.  Twitch I can watch all night long.  I was shocked he was in the bottom 2.  I think people didn't vote for him because they thought he was popular.  It's the "Idol" effect.  After last week's performance, I think Katee's got it.  She can dance just about anything and is incredibly likable.  The best out of this bunch.

I love this show.  Really talented kids, not wannabes, dancing real dance choreographed by real choreographers (thank you, Mia Michaels and Shane Sparks).

Mary has to shut up, though.  And more Wabe Robson.
I have watched this show since season 1 and I absolutely love this show.  I can't wait for it all year long and it has just gotten better over the seasons.  Will's departure was really unexpected but like others have said this is American's favorite dancer not America's best dancer.  The thing with Will is that he will have a long career in dance without winning this competition and I am not worried that we he will find success.

This week will be interesting but I think Mark is getting the axe.  He should.  He is a beautiful dancer but compared to Twitch, and Joshua he doesn't stand out.  This is the first year that there is no clear cut winner.  My predictiong for the final 4, Twitch, Joshus, Chelsie and Katee are amazing and I can't imagine who will win.

I also agree that Mary needs to SHUT UP!!!  She has bugged me since Season 1.  But she is so knowledgable about dance when she actually calms down and talks about it.  I am always surprised at her intelligent comments and I wish she would take it down a notch or too and just focus on the dancing instead of the lame comments and annoying screaming.  Actually lately I have just been muting her all together.
I also am sad Will is gone.  I believe Mark should have been the one.  Based on dancing capability.  Will was arrogant but a great dancer!  My pick now to win is Chelsea.  When she is dancing, I can't take my eyes off of her.  She is spellbinding.  What a set of legs on her. Someone said on the show her legs were old hollywood.  Absolutely, Exactly correct. She is wonderful. I wish her luck!!
As an old ex-dancer, I was very sad to see Will go.  Such a great dancer!  The amazing thing for me last week, however, was seeing the L.A. Ballet Company on the show.  For years, so many of us have dreamed of having ballet in L.A., but watching those dancers, with their very careful placement, total lack of charisma, and utterly dull technique, the title of the piece was very apt - Who Cares!  Bring on the SYTYCD dancers!
I was also shocked to see Will go home- yet it also seemed to make an odd kind of sense.  I was never really rushing to see his routines.
Chelsea on the other hand- that girl is something else!  I totally adore it when she's up there- she just seems to bring a light onto the stage with her.

As far as the rest of the show- I like watching Mary in The Soup/Joel McHale kind of way- what the heck is going to come out of her mouth this time?  I get the impression that Cat Deely genuinely likes the contestants- unlike Seacrest who only seems to care about his air time.
We love Mary Murphy, screams and all!  I am always happy when the dancers get a "ticket on the hot tamale train" - you know they all want to get one of those screams from her...
I love love love this show and will be very sad to see it end for another year. *sigh*

Based on who is left now, it is up to a lot of luck as to what partners they draw and what dances they pick. Remember the death knell for Kherington for that abysmal Two-Step? Frankly the only girl that could have pulled that off was Chelsea. I agree with the opinion that the jidges should have a say of who should stay and go from the bottom. AND I would also love to see how many votes each person got -

The jidges themselves are at their best when they get passionate about the routines they experienced and can verbalize that. Mary can sometimes hit the nail on the head but it's hard to hear that over the cackling and screaming ... I much prefer insightful and constructive commentary like Alan Shankman or L'il C (what a pleasant surprise!) Imagining Tony Basil and her interpretation of 'street' or 'organic' dancing - just makes me shudder (and not in a good way)

The choreography has been stupendous this year. Love Love Love so many of the routines.

I have become a reluctant but wholehearted convert to Katee - she turned me off so much at the show where they announced the final 20. But she has certainly proven her place and darn it all - she might just win the whole thing! If I could vote I would vote for her.
Although Will was not my personal favorite, I must agree that he is very talented.  I believe that once America had an opportunity to vote they spoke clearly.  All season the panel of judges has been on a campaign to see Will win, not just because he's the best but because of their relationship with Debbie Allen.  At times their comments have been so biased it seemed as though they weren't aware the audiance would even notice.  Could his having been voted off represent the viewers making a statement to the judges panel?
Love the show, will miss Will, will try to find another to root for. But would really like to ask, cajole, beg, implore Mary to tone down that scream - it is now a caricature. I miss her comments (mute) because I don't know when she is going to blow our ears off. And the loudly screaming girls isn't adding to my enjoyment of the show, either!
Will is a wonderful dancer and ironically that's the reason i was not that upset about his leaving... truth be told he doesn't need the show. He will have a brilliant career regardless. I would rather see the top prize go to a relative unknown like Joshua. He has shown an incredible talent in picking up the varied styles and has an absolutley incredible stage presence! I'm not sure another man could have pulled off the "Bollywood" routine the way Joshua did. I also wouldn't mind seeing Katee win just because of the rotten way the judges acted towards her in Vegas when the final spot in the top 24 was between her and her roommate.

And 3 cheers for KitKat! Cat Deeley is an excellent host. She needs to be nominated for an Emmy! I would take her warmth, sincerity and graciousness over Ryan Seacrest's snarkiness and hair gel any day of the week!
I think Will is the best dancer ever on So you think you can dance.  Only Danny, Blake and Travis even come close to him.  He was technically the best and I felt the emotional connection everytime he danced.  I think don't think he was arrogant, quite the contrary I think he was confident, gracious and humble.  As his parting words demonstrated.

People shouldn't condemn him because the judges heaped deserving praise on him.  It is hard for his partners to keep up with his brilliant and fluid dancing, but it is possible and Katee demonstrated.  He has a brilliant career infront of him.  The show lost a star.
Devastated about Will!.  And how could Twitch be in the bottom 2 also?  Final 4 should have been Will, Twitch, Courtney and Katie with Will the overall winner.  Do away with the phony multiple calls per line and restrict it to one call per phone line, but also don't let the audience vote until the final 2.  Best choreographers are always Mia Michaels and Wade Robson, but enjoying the husband wife hip-hop team this year. Want to see Debbie Allen judge and choreograph.  Bring back Will and some integrity!!
