Hurry back, 'House,' 'Office,' and 'Earl'

I'm just not very excited about the new fall shows this year. I might give "90210" another shot and I might have to watch "Fringe" at least once because J.J. Abrams is involved, but the rest? A "Knight Rider" remake? Hideously unfunny comedies? Uh-uh, no thanks, you can keep 'em. Take my TV, please.

Thankfully, I have a pile of old favorites coming back on the air. Here are the top three shows that I'm setting my TiVo for this month. Note that these are basic network shows -- my TiVo is already working overtime grabbing cable classics such as "Mad Men" and "The Shield."

(Possible spoilers if you didn't watch these shows last season.)

1) "The Office"
Oh, Jim and Pam. Perfect for each other, yet eternally thwarted -- and this time by a capella specialist Andy and his horribly premature proposal to Angela. The romantic in me is impatient with Jim for not going ahead and popping the question anyway, but I know we're supposed to understand that he didn't want to share his fireworks. (Plus, it could ruin the romance if they're too happy, too soon.)

I'll miss sad-faced Toby, but I'm also loving Amy Ryan as new HR rep Holly. Love her treating Kevin as if he were Forrest Gump. (Which...not that far off, really.) The only plot I couldn't care less about? Jan's sperm-donor baby. Yawn. More Dwight, less Jan, is my motto. MUCH more Dwight. (Returns Sept. 25)

'House' has heart.

2) "House"
I came to this show late, but once I found it, I gorged on entire seasons (bless you, DVD box sets). Because of this, I saw House change from a snippy, snotty, who-could-like-this-guy doctor to one who was still snippy and snotty, but held within him a certain irresistable heart. (See photo for evidence.)

I love any classroom scenes with him, too, because he reminds me of the college professor you're absolutely terrified of, but would give anything to impress. I'm hoping Kal Penn gets even more screen time this year. He could read the DSM-IV aloud and I'd listen. But -- am I alone here? I was kind of bored by the Wilson-Amber plotline. Guess I don't have to worry about that any more. (Returns Sept. 16)

3) "My Name Is Earl"
One of the smartest comedies out there, "Earl," like "House," is fun to view in giant DVD chunks. Earl's progress on his list, his relationship with dim brother Randy, and ongoing feuds with ex-wife Joy (brilliantly played by Jaime Pressly) are fun to watch unfold episode after episode. I don't think there have been many funnier half-hours lately than the first-season episode "Y2K," in which Earl and crew think the world has ended and try to start things over by claiming sections of a closed Bargain Bag store for their own. ("Randy, I told you! No robot dogs!")

Last season was my first disappointment: Loved Earl in jail, hated the draggy days when he was in a coma and dreaming about a 1950s sitcom life with Billie. The producers have promised to get back to Earl's list this year, and if they do, Thursday nights are going to be the funniest night of the week. (Returns Sept. 25)

What returning shows have you waiting impatiently? Let's discuss in the comments -- and don't be afraid to share what you hope to see happen (or not happen) on your favorites.

Battlestar Galactica (the most anticipated returning show for me.)
Lost
Prison Break
Pushing Daisies
Sarah Connor Chronicles
Earl
The Big Bang Theory
Love House, NCIS, and Bones!  My boyfriend got me hooked on these and Ghost Whisperer.  I cannot wait for the new season for these shows to begin!  Is it Fall yet?  :-)
Watched Tru Blood last night -- loved it!!! Entourage, the Office, 2 1/2 men, Samantha Who -- can't wait!!
Looking forward to Chuck, Dirty Sexy Money and Private Practice after their shortened beginnings last year.
Looking ahead to this winter and new Rescue Me and Big Love episodes!!
Going to continue to be loyal to Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy -- but both shows better step up to the plate and deliver!!  And, I'll probably tune in for a few ER episodes, for old times' sake!
"What returning shows have you waiting impatiently?"
-----------------------

Not any of the three you mentioned, THAT'S for sure.

The only show that is a MUST SEE for me every week is "The Shield". After last week's premiere, I can't wait to see how the rest of the season unfolds.

My other favorites are 2nd tier shows that if I DON'T catch them I'll either have them TIVO'd or I'll catch a rerun.

After that I'm just glad NFL games are back!!
How about the "Mentalist".  Can't go wrong with "House".
Friday Night Lights, Eli Stone and The Amazing Race! I also love the whole Monday night sitcom lineup, especially Big Bang and HIMYM. Ugly Betty got a little out there by the end of last season, but I'm hoping it will recapture it's quirky charm, and I'm a sucker for Ghost Whisperer, as well. Once the new season starts, I'm a captive to the tube...
House is my favorite!!!  Can't wait.  I am with you, totally bored with the Wilson-Amber thing. Happy that ended!!  I also can't wait for Samantha Who?!!  I love Christina Applegate in this!!  She is awesome!!!
1. The Shield
2. House
3. The Office
4. Amazing Race

Not necessarily in that order!!
My favorites:  Lost, NCIS, Criminal Minds, Bones, Entourage, Boston Legal, Scrubs, Amazing Race, Extreme Home Makeover.

My wifes favorites:  Dancing With the Stars, Ugly Betty, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practive, Bones, House, Lipstick Jungle, Pushing Daisies, Ghost Whisperer, Desperate Housewives, Brothers and Sisters
House, Lost, The Office, and Heroes are the top 4. I like Chuck and Eli Stone as well, but as long as I have those top 4, everything else can be cancelled.
One name....Denny Crain!  I love Boston Legal. I laugh till I cry at every show. I think I might be getting Mad Cow too. It doesn't seem to hurt Denny's very active sex drive. LOL!!!
I am really looking forward to "Breaking Bad" coming back for it's sophomore season - but will have to wait until Feb 2009. :o(
I too, cannot wait for HOUSE - tho the cutthroat b***h storyline was tedious, i thought the last couple of episodes of the season involving her were among some of the most sublime tv i've ever seen. Also looking forward to: Damages, 30 Rock, Fringe, Life on Mars (brit version was really cool)Lost & BSG (oh the long wait!), maybe 24 if it can find it's way again, and already sooo happy to be back with Mad Men, Entourage & looking forward to more Breaking Bad - that show was really great!
Two shows that I truly enjoy are Chuck and Monk!
CHUCK! Where's my CHUCK?
Also, my CBS faves: NCIS, Numb3rs & CSI New York.
Both Bones and Eureka thankfully, have already kicked off their new season with a bang!
My Favorites:
Number 1 used to be CSI but now that the lead characters have jumped ship it is
1- The Big Bang Theory
2- Heroes
3- House
Samantha Who?
NCIS
Boston Legal
House
Meanwhile, I've been enjoying The Closer and Weeds.  Will be watching Big Love (S3) when it comes out on DVD.
24!!!
Can't wait for NBC's Must-See Thursday, although I quit watching ER two or three seasons ago, and won't miss it a bit when it's gone after this season. Definitely ready for new Desperate Housewives, as well as Two and a Half Men and HIMYM. Pushing Daisies is a must, as well. I'm sad to hear that Breaking Bad won't be back until February!! That one is brilliantly written, and Bryan Cranston is wonderful.
House, Numbers, Criminal Minds, Dexter, Bones, Saving Grace (Holly Hunter is amazing), The Closer, Eureka, NCIS, Burn Notice -  those are the shows I will not miss. Lost was good the first 2 seasons, but went downhill, I also like 2 1/2 Men.
1) Bones
2) House
3) Chuck
Dirty Sexy Money! Love it's freshman year!
Earl is still one of the best shows on TV, not just due to being so funny - but it manages to be silly, heartwarming, outlandish, yet very grounded.

Jason Lee is a genius, along with Jamie and many others.
I'm with you on the Jim-frustration - can't wait for The Office to start again.  I also love Eli Stone on ABC.  You can't go wrong with Victor Garber!  Lost is another fav.
Love Lost, House, Bones, Medium, Ghost Hunters on Sci Fi and am really looking forward to Criminal Minds!!!!
House is great, but I wouldn't want him to "cure" me!
The best show is hands-down Rescue Me on FX.
It's gat everything and Denis Leary.
1) Torchwood
2) Dr. Who
3) The Closer
4) In Plain Sight
5) Monk
6) Psych
7) Mad Money  (CNBC)
Who watches TV religiously anymore...it use to be that you could watch a season (EVERY WEEK) instead of the networks breaking it up (for who knows why) to the point I gave up.

House to return in 5 weeks....WHAT???? Here's somebody who won't return to watch...TV should not be this hard ... there's this thing called CABLE with better shows...
Ummmmmmmm, word to the wise men ...once you start something...finish, ON SCHEDULE...every week, (DUH)
Bones and House!  We also love Cold Case with Tracey Thoms and re-runs of Seinfeld.  Am now addicted to So You Think You Can Dance!
HOUSE and NUMB3RS.  I can't wait.  I was devastated when Amber died.  I hope she returns in House's head some more.
The Office, Bones, Dexter.  I don't think I'm going to give Grey's another chance, I'm so bored with it.
1. Numb3rs (I really hope this doesn't get cancelled!)
2. Criminal Minds
3. House
4. NCIS
House
24
DEXTER (the best TV show of all time)
Addicted to BONES and House. Personally, (and don't call me "SO yesterday!") but I think there should be a Law and Order channel - with all of three series on it.
Love those murder/crime/chemistry shows
House is the best! Hugh Laurie and the rest of the cast are superb.  With the new characters on the show, it will only get better.
Bored with Amber?  I thought her final episode was one of the best acted hours in TV all season.  I did prefer her interactions with House and thought they both were at their best in their scenes together.  I'm only disappointed that they killed her off in place of the other newbies.  13 might have some good stuff coming this year and Olivia is a hell of an actress.  The two guys do little for me, and I love Kal.  He just didn't have much to do last season.
I can't wait for House and Bones.  Wish Hugh Laurie would "86" his British accent when he comes on the Tonight Show.  I can't wait for "NCIS,Earl, Ugly Betty, Daises, Desperate Housewives,Greys & ER".  Miss Jericho and Moonlight and good Sci-Fi.
the shield is back for one last corrupt go round
House is the best show on TV, by far. Looking forward to the new season and watching reruns on USA. My Name is Earl and 30 Rock are also good shows.
Only one passing mention above of the best show on t.v. - Burn Notice.  Finally a show that both my wife and I enjoy equally!

And when the story comes out about the LEAST anticipated show, my vote goes to L&O CI, which is replacing Chris Noth with the worst actor this side of William Shatner, the unwatchable Jeff Goldblum - UGH!
I love House and Bones. I was also a late comer to House, like right before season three started. Watched it Friday night on USA because  there was nothing else on. Now I'm hooked. I'm going into anthropology and I find Bones so cool.
House is awesome!  LOVE his character.
House, House, House. Must get into the Office, I am late.
To P Parker - Finally!  Someone else loves Prison Break.  Just got through watching the most recent episode.  Dominick (Linc) & Wentworth (Michael) are so HOT!!!  All that aside, the show is excellent.
I love House and NCIS. I may give Fringe and Mentalist a shot, but am gun shy about getting into any new shows after my last season favorites Moonlight, Journeyman, and New Amsterdam were not given a fair shake.
I like all 3 shows you mentioned, but one I think is underrated is Journeyman.  It has that Quantan Leap-feel to it.

And while it's not on Network television (well, repeats were), I can't wait to see how Dexter follows up an amazing Season 2.
While House is the bomb, I will really miss Jericho this year....
"Chuck".  Just "Chuck".
1. Bones
2. 30 Rock- am I the only person watching this?
3. House
4. NCIS
5. Chuck
6. Life
