Dude, these male celebs are OK by me

Last week, msnbc.com's Anna Chan wrote in Test Pattern about female celebrities who she thinks have got it all going on. She only named two women before asking readers to name more. I would have written that post, but the Internet couldn't hold my list and our servers couldn't handle your responses.

So instead this week I get to respond with male celebrities who I think have it "all." By "all" we'll stick to Anna's definition of looks and talent and apparent smarts. I watch enough movies and television and read enough magazines and Web sites that I think I can cobble something together. And my wife and I have always had a fun back-and-forth regarding celebrities and who each of us would be allowed to hook up with if we were alone in New York or Paris and the stars just happened to align. Perhaps you're in a relationship that can handle such make-believe.

Clive Owen: Playing the hand he's been dealt.

So let's start with Clive Owen. You'll find that I'm going to reference mostly men who leave little doubt that they are in fact men. Meaning, they probably look great in a tux, they might have an accent and they can likely beat up your boyfriend if provoked. Owen fits all of these criteria. Rent "Croupier" or "Children of Men" or watch one of these extended BMW ads because a hot male film star should know how to drive, too (Steve McQueen! Paul Newman!).

It's not difficult to transition from Clive Owen to James Bond and these days 007 means Daniel Craig ... again, the accent and the tux. When Craig walked out of the water in "Casino Royale" wearing those little swim trunks all he needed to do was kick sand in Matthew McConaughey's face to seal his status as king of the beach. Watch him here on Charlie Rose because, well, you should watch a little less of "The View."

How about another tough guy to complete the trifecta? "300" star Gerard Butler brings the accent and the abs necessary to make the list. And if I had a dollar for every time I've heard a guy in my office say, "This is Sparta!" I wouldn't be sweating the economic crisis. Not to mention that my boss is practically stalking Butler online and not putting him on the list wasn't an option for me.

I could go on and on with the hunky action stars who don't speak "American," but that wouldn't leave me time to name Robert Downey Jr. (beyond talented), Dominic West (best cop on TV -- ever), that model guy Gabriel Aubry (I have no idea if he's talented or smart, but when's the last time you got the sexiest woman alive pregnant?), and, oh yeah, what's his face ... George Clooney (when I grow up, I want to be him).

Alright, ladies (and gentlemen), let 'er rip. Which male celebrities are worth the price of a ticket, worth setting the DVR for, worth thumbing through a magazine in the checkout line or worth that one night in Paris for you?

Sean Connery - sexy, gorgeous, smart, talented...need I go on? Oh and the accent. YUM.
For me: Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Christian Bale, Michael Pitt, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and the lesser known James Duval and Jonathon Trent. They're all gorgeous, and pick their roles for their artistic value (for the most part) rather than their dollar value. Each and every one of them never fail to entertain me... and make me drool just a little.
Oh God, how could I forget Lukas Haas?! Please tell me I'm not the only Lukas fanatic out there. Not only is he beautiful, but an exceptionally talented actor AND musician (download his 4-song "Lukas Haas EP" on iTunes and see what I mean).
As for guys with accents, I've got to stick to my Lord of the Rings boys: Dominic Monaghan and Orlando Bloom. Without an accent- George Clooney....*sigh*
Hugh Jackman!!!
I may be a little old, but Hugh Jackman is OK by me.  He's tall, dark, handsome, and he can dance.  What more is there?
Jon Hamm from Mad Men. He's got the total package--looks, brains, charm, and magnetic sex appeal!
Jason Statham
Leonardo DiCaprio!  He successfully transitioned from teen heartthrob to an accomplished actor who chooses the greatest roles.  Plus, he has a genuine concern for the condition of the environment and is using his power to change things for the better.  Need I say more?
James Franco is a total hottie ... He definitely melts my butter!!  With accent ... Jude Law for sure!
Those hot Brits!  Don't forget Jude Law, Sting and (drool) Ralph Fiennes...They probably can't beat up your boyfriend, but they're just so gosh darn easy on the eyes!
Jon Hamm...too sexy for words! He's the best thing to happen to TV in a long time. And Denis Leary...you've got to love a man with a self-deprecating sense of humor.  They're two of the hottest guys in Hollywood right now.
GERARD BUTLER!!  Those eyes, those abs (well at least in 300) and of course that Scottish accent!  If it's between him and my husband, well.....my husband's just going to have to forgive me...  :)
I would have to say my fave is Ewan McGregor...  Moulin Rouge anyone?  And he is so funny too!  If you ever watched the Long Way Round or the Long Way Down you would know what I was talking about.  He just seems like a GREAT guy!
I sat through "the Holiday" twice just for the moment when Jude Law looks at Cameron Diaz and says, "you're lovely".  Those two seconds were worth the price of admission alone.  HE is lovely and so much more.
David Tennant! Time Lord, Hamlet, what's not to love!
Alex O'Loughlin, Jason Dohring, and Simon Baker - all three incredibly hot and talented and seen most lately in newer TV series (MOONLIGHT which was cancelled last season) and THE MENTALIST (new this season). I drop everything to watch them!
Clive and Gerard definitely make my list, and how could I have forgotten Hugh Jackman!  Orlando Bloom, definitely, I think that covers accents.  I would add Brad Pitt, and for the older crowd Robert Redford!  I've had a crush on him since grade school!!!!!
Ciaran Hinds (55 years old even) He is from Ireland and an exceptional actor-heartthrob.
Though he might seem a little strange to some, Matthew McConaghey is a true hottie in my eyes. Orlando Bloom, Christian Bale and, dare I say?, Daniel Radcliffe are also on my list!
HELLO................ Two words: Johnny Depp.
I have nothing to add other than a hearty "Hell YEAH" to every name on your list. And a thank you, thank you, thank you for the inclusion of Gerard Butler.  (I've probably run into your boss in the halls LOL)
Hugh Jackman for sure (there's just something about him as Wolverine... which I do realize makes me look like a total comic book geek). But my heart melts for the gorgeous, amazingly talented Gerard Butler. Mmmm! Christian Bale is a hottie, too.
Gerard Butler is the hottest out there right now.
Viggo Mortensen, Ed Harris, John Corbett (loved him in Northern Exposure and Sex in the City), and dare I say - Keanu Reeves!
Jason Stratham, Viggo Morensen, Clive Owen and George Clooney.  I also have a thing for Vin Deisel.
Uh... duh... Johnny Depp
On my list: Joseph Feinnes, David Tennant, John Barrowman (he is very pretty)
I agree with a lot of the aforementioned names. Especially Clive Owen in Closer and if you haven't seen Daniel Craig's naked torture scene in Casino Royale than get into your Netflix and get it done.
There are some younger guys that deserved a nod, though.  Paul Walker is just delicious in every sense of the word and Matthew Goode has the accent and the eyes-thing happening, as well.
Shia LaBeouf.  Though all the other people have listed some good actors that qualify - Shia ranks number one in my book.  So much so that I have permission from my husband to deny ever meeting him if the stars align and I get a shot at Shia.
I completely agree with Gerard Butler, but is everyone else forgetting that he can also sing? (Hello, Phantom of the Opera) Other with accent guys are James McAvoy and Daniel Craig. An American guy I've always drooled over is Val Kilmer...
James McAvoy, Gerard Butler, Clive Owen, Terrence Howard, Taye Diggs, Denzel Washington, and Robert Sean Leonard among current stars. I'm a big fan of old movies, too, so I love looking back at old films with Cary Grant, Robert Wagner, and Gordon MacRae.
Gary Oldman.
What about Christopher Eccleston for the accents, ladies??? Christian Bale, Brad Pitt, Johnathan Rhys-Meyer . . . I am drooling on my keyboard.
Blair Underwood has the voice, the biceps, the chiseled features and those EYES.... oh goodness.
Finally a subject that I am good at. . .boys!  I love Jason Statham.  The boys from the Boondock Saints, yep I could kiss 'em both!  Michael from Prison Break, he's my pretend boyfriend.  Michael from Bur Notice, that's my other pretend boyfriend.  Jude Law. . .super hot.  I don't know if I am the only one that loves UFC boys but they kind of qualify under the "could beat up your boyfriend" catagory.  If they count then Forrest Griffen, Rob Emmerson, and Nick Diaz totally make the list.  I could think up a billion more!  Thanks guys this was fun!
Denzel Washington and George Clooney
Gerry Butler every time!
He's got those georgous green eyes, a killer smile and he can sing! what more could you want! and he's sweet also...
Give me a gorgeous guy with a great sense of humor. George Clooney tops that list, of course, but there's also John Cusack, David Tennant (with bonus accent), David Duchovny, and, on the lesser-known scale, Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk. (Yeah, I'm a Browncoat! But also check them out in "Waitress" and "Death at a Funeral," respectively.)
I fell in love with Gerard Butler when I saw him in Tomb Raider. Mark Wahlberg still has the hottest bod in the business.
Johnny Knoxville!!!!!!!  i just love him.  if you look up some pics of him your mind will change.  he's hott!
Bruce Willis...Vin Diesel...and Stanley Tucci!  (I like em bald)
And my heavens, Richard Gere is the most charming man alive, I think.
Bill Pullman.  That man has aged so very well.  Gorgeous, talented and oh, so sexy.  From While You Were Sleeping to Bottle Shock.....the man is superb.
I know he hasn't been around for a while, but Adrian Paul from Highlander does it for me...
Ewan McGregor!!!  I mean, he can sing, dance, act, is smart, hilarious, sweet, and has such a kind heart. Not to mention he's incredibly sexy, and has a really sexy voice (and that laugh! I melt when he laughs). And he's into motorcycles. Hot!
How about Eduardo Verastegui - seriously !  Check out this website - he is HOT!  He was in Bella - the most beautiful movie ever.  Oh, and did I mention, he is HOT??!!  Check it out ladies!

Gerard Butler, Sean Patrick Flannery, Clive Owen, James McAvoy and Johnny Lee Miller
forgot the Firefly boys: Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin and Alan Tudyk!
Pierce Brosnan - always had it; still does!
My list, in order... Mark Wahlberg. He's definitely got it all. Denis Leary, just watch Rescue Me. George Clooney and Denzel Washington.
