These actors should be Bond ... James Bond

When it was announced that Daniel Craig would be replacing Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, I was annoyed.  Brosnan, in my opinion, had been the perfect Bond: charming, handsome, sexy, mysterious, smooth and a bit naughty.  He brought a fun aspect to the character that made the films more enjoyable for me, and I wasn’t interested in having someone else take over the role, someone I couldn’t see playing the dashing agent.

So for the first time in a long time, when “Casino Royale” was released, I didn’t go rushing to the nearest theater. In fact, I didn’t even see it until three nights ago because I didn’t have faith in Craig. My friends tried to convince me that he’d be great and urged me to watch “Layer Cake” as proof of his talent. I watched it. I enjoyed Craig. (Those abs … wow!) But I still couldn’t see him as Bond.

Even after I finally caved to “Casino” the other night, I haven’t changed my mind, though Craig seemed to do fine. I liked that he was rougher around the edges, but his performance seemed flat and monotonous. So forgive me for not being upset that he may not be back for a third installment.  I’ll still see “Quantum of Solace” – eventually – but I may be more excited when a new actor takes the helm.

And who should that be? There are a few I believe may do a bang-up job.

First on my list is Christian Bale. I know, I’ve already explained why he can always put me in a theater seat, but this man can definitely pull off this secret-agent role.  He’s done smooth yet crazy (“American Psycho”), action hero (“Batman” and the upcoming “Terminator 4”), mentally haunted (“The Machinist”) and many other films that have shown his range of talent. And his ability to successfully relaunch a beloved character is proven by his Bruce Wayne/Batman. Plus, his recent roles already have his body in perfect shape for rolling around on a sandy beach with a Bond babe.

If producers are hoping for another blondish Bond, how about Kevin McKidd, most recently of Dr. McArmy fame on “Grey’s Anatomy”? McKidd has the chops to play a total badass good guy bent on doing whatever it takes for the good of his country, as evidenced by his stint as Lucius Vorenus in HBO’s “Rome.” His role on “Grey’s” also shows that even as a tough guy, he’s got a heart, perfect for falling in love with all the wrong ladies. And his voice, oh … that gruff, sexy growl! It’s perfect for Bond, along with his rugged looks.

For the fun, charming factor, Blair Underwood would be my pick. He’s done sneaky bad guy (“Dirty Sexy Money”) and charming romantic hottie (“Sex and the City”). And in those roles, he’s proven he can be cool as a cucumber when things don’t go his way, not to mention his draw with the beauties, which is a requirement for Bond.

Who do you think would make a great Bond?

I myself was extremely skeptical at first about Craig.  Had been a Brosnan fan all the way back to the movie Nomads.  However - I like Craig as the newest Bond.  I cannot agree with your assessment and would not take of your three choices over Craig for future Bond movies.
GERARD BUTLER!!!!!
Kevin for sure - I'd go see my first Bond movie for sure.  Anyone who hasn't seen Roma - go rent it this weekend!!
Jason Statham, he is a brit, and has good credentials with, Snatch, the Transporter, The Bank Job and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
Jude Law
I'd vote for McKidd.  It's about time another Scot got the role!!!!!!
I know it will never happen, but I would love to see George Clooney as James Bond. The looks, the charm and charisma, the great timing and sense of humor, and the kick your butt seriousness he's shown in his various roles would make him the perfect Bond.
Daniel Craig is excellent.  In fact, he's the first Bond I've ever liked -- ruggedly handsome, action packed -- more realistic than the other Bonds.

I hope he keeps the role for a long time.  Pierce Brosnan has nothing on Daniel Craig !
HUGH JACKMAN!
Clive Owen.
Clive Owen, Gerard Butler, or Ewan McGregor.

When they were looking to replace Pierce, I had my money on Clive Owen or Hugh Jackman. Either one of them would make an awesome James Bond!
I think Hugh Jackman would make a great Bond. Intelligent, funny, classy and easy on the eyes.
I would have to put in my vote for Jack Davenport as a possible new Bond.  Jack is tall and charming, not entirely foreign to the action genre (see Pirates of the Caribbean movies) where he fenced his way around a wheel in a three-way with Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp.  He would have to tweak his accent but I vote for Jack Davenport.
I think you are way off base.  Daniel Craig is one of the better Bonds in recent years. Casino Royal was probably the best Bond that I have scene.  I was skeptical at first, but was won over by the movie and actor after I saw it. Pierce Brosnan and his 3 franchise Bond movies were terrible!! Seriously... watch them again. He "looked" the part, but all of the movies were boring and hokey. The best thing they did was go in a different direction for Casino Royal.
Daniel Craig is actually pretty good. I would like to see him do at least two more Bond movies. But failing that, Cristian Bale is a good choice. My two favorites would be either Guy Pearce or Jason Isaacs.
Uh, I disagree entirely. Daniel Craig is the best Bond ever (yes, that includes Connery and Moore). His acting chops have turned the Bond character into so much more than a cliche - for the first time in Bond movie history, James is an actual human being with emotion rather than a stereotypical spy with gadgets and women and no feelings above the waist.
Are you kidding me???? Please don't write this kind of nonsense in a prestigious website... Please, Kevin McKidd, wow...
What?! Daniel Craig is the best Bond since Sean Connery (and I would argue he's even better than the original). His Bond has layers... Pierce Brosnan was smarmy and superficial and pretty much killed the Bond franchise with his perfect hair and tailored suits that never got wrinkled or dirty no matter how much he got shot at and rolled on the ground. And seriously, how many bullets did he miraculously dodge using only his ego as a shield? Who could take him seriously? Thankfully, Jason Bourne forced Bond to grow up. I hope Daniel Craig is here to stay.
Had they been picked when they were a bit younger, Sam Neill and Liam Neeson might have made good Bonds.  To change topic - if the Craig 007 movies ever decide to resurrect "Q," I think Hugh Laurie would be perfect.
uh, i think ole daniel craig has a 4 picture deal for the bond.
I would vote for Kevin McKidd.  I was so impressed with both him and with the character he played in Rome, that I only half-jokingly told my wife that I was going to design a bumper sticker that would say, "Lucius Vorenus for President".
Jason Statham...
If you are thinking that Daniel Craig should be replaced by another actor, you are absolutely crazy!!! He brings to the screen depth to the role that no other Bond has before. Bond has grown over the years. I don't think people want to see a TV star play James Bond let alone a "Greys" newcomer. Christian Bale would even make Bond darker and more serious. Daniel Craig is superb in his role! In "Casino Royale", Daniel Craig the audience finally saw Bond as human and not some cartoon character. I am looking forward to seeing "Quantum of Solace". It is directed by Marc Forster who is a fantastic director! Besides, you have the wrong information, Daniel Craig has already signed on for the next installment-Bond,James Bond! Ha! You Go Daniel!
Jason Statham...look at his character in the Transporter...
kevin mckidd... you're joking, right??
Clive Owen should be the next Bond.  He practically played the character when he was in the BMW film series.
Daniel Craig is a great Bond!  Blair Underwood and Kevin McKidd?  No way!  Good thing you're not choosing the next actor.  I hope Craig stays for more.
Definitely Clive Owen. I can't keep my eyes off him when he's on screen. He's such a dynamic presence, and oozes rugged masculinity and sex appeal. Perfect for James Bond. He's also a good actor, as evidenced by his roles in "Children of Men," "The Inside Man," "Closer," and we don't see him take himself too seriously in the entertaining but bloody "Shoot 'Em Up."
Daniel is, without question, a far better Bond than Pierce could have ever imagined being.  Bronsan's schtick was nearly unwatchable.

Worst Bond ever? -- Pierce Bronsan, by a mile and good riddance.
Oh PLease---sean connery was the only real Bond..
I think Angelina Jolie would make an excellent
"Jane Bond", around a script where the British
Secret Service hires her as a "00" replacement for a felled member, who must now work with James on a
case.
Wow I couldn't disagree with you more about Daniel Craig and Pierce Brosnan.  The Brosnan Bond movies made me stop watching Bond movies...Daniel Craig has me excited about them again.
And I think Christian Bale would be horrible as Bond just like he's boring as Batman.
I think Gerard Butler would have been the best choice.
He's not well known but Alexander Skarsgard would be perfect. He's in the new show "True Blood" on HBO and he's from Sweden so he's got a little bit of an accent. But I guess if Bond is supposed to be "all american" or something I guess that might not work...But he's hot.
Craig is great, but I think Clive Owen would have also been a great choice.
I thought Roger Moore had been the greatest Bond, until Pierce Brosnan came along; now I think Pierce Brosnan is the best, way ahead of Craig, who is a good actor, but not a good James Bond for me. I truly doubt anyone will surpass Brosnan in my mind.
You are out of your mind. There is only ONE actor out there who could be Bond: Clive Owens.
Finally someone else that is not enthused with Daniel Craig as Bond!!  Haven't seen Casino Royal and won't see Quantum Solace!! Add Ewan McGregor to the list, can be a charmer, up for action!!
How about Jason O'Mara from 'Life on Mars'?

Easy on the eye, great voice and he can do the action stuff.  Love him!!
Craig is returning for Bond 23 and will probably stay on after that. He was joking about the economy...

Bale is too dark and disturbed, not suave. McKidd is perfect but too old. Underwood is too American.
I don't agree, unforutnately. Pierce Brosnan was one of the worst Bonds (only George Lazenby was worse), and Daniel Craig is simply great. I'd love to see Cristian Bale as Bond, but he has so many other franchises already, it would be nice to see someone less known get a shot. Don't know Kevin McKidd but will check him out. I can't see Blair Underwood as Bond at all. He hasn't impressed me on DSM at all, but that may be the writing rather than his acting ability. Ewan MacGregor would be fun to watch as Bond. And what about John Hamm?
As an avid Bond fan, I have to admit, I was not that into Craig when he was announced to take over the role. We have to remember, it's the director that determines how Bond's character is protrayed, not so much the actor.  But, after I saw "Casino" I thought they did a bang up job. As you said, he's a little rough around the edges, but I think that it comes across as more passionate. "Casino" took us back to how Bond became a "00". It's supposed to give us that dark and mysterious feeling.
As for the three you suggested to replace him, you only have one legit option. Bale. The other two would never make it to the casting call based on one small detail...they are not British actors. The aficionado's would never allow a non-Brit to play the International Spy. It was hard enough to allow there to be a Blond-Bond, let alone an American one.
Daniel Craig. He's excellent. If he doesn't do a third, McKidd would be a good choice.
Clive Owen-beautiful, witty, rough and gentle, he even has the accent.
Daniel Craig is by far the best James Bond we have had in decades.  His raw sensuality and machismo is a welcome change from the likes of Pierce Brosnan.

I definitely put him in the category of Sean Connery.  I do hope he continues to play the role.  It's the first time I've been interested in seeing a Bond movie in quite a while.
I, like you, was skeptical of Craig playing Bond but after I saw "Casino" I understood why they would select Daniel Craig.  I think the thing that escapes you is that the "Bond" Daniel Craig is playing is not yet the "dashing agent" that is played by Brosnan.  The Bond story line has reverted to the beginning.  In this series JB is not the suave, debonair, smooth 007 we have all grown up with.  He is a new agent; rough and unrefined just as Fleming portrayed him in his first few novels.  Fleming even described Bond as “an anonymous, blunt instrument” in an interview with Reader’s Digest.
Ooh, I love Blair Underwood. That would be a first. I would watch that for sure.
Alex O'Loughlin would be a fantastic James Bond..
Hugh Jackman, in my opinion, would make an ideal bond. He's a little more on the "gritty" side, but can also clean up pretty well. When I heard they were going to replace Brosnan, rumor had it that they wanted someone more from the cut of Sean Connery - a bit more hard-edged, and someone that didn't mind getting their hands dirty in a fight. I haven't seen 'Casino Royale' in spite of the fact that it's been playing on one of my movie channels, and I really have no interest in seeing 'Quantum of Solace'. Craig just doesn't evoke "Bond" anywhere in my taste for this exceptional series of movies.
