These actors should be Bond ... James Bond

When it was announced that Daniel Craig would be replacing Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, I was annoyed.  Brosnan, in my opinion, had been the perfect Bond: charming, handsome, sexy, mysterious, smooth and a bit naughty.  He brought a fun aspect to the character that made the films more enjoyable for me, and I wasn’t interested in having someone else take over the role, someone I couldn’t see playing the dashing agent.

So for the first time in a long time, when “Casino Royale” was released, I didn’t go rushing to the nearest theater. In fact, I didn’t even see it until three nights ago because I didn’t have faith in Craig. My friends tried to convince me that he’d be great and urged me to watch “Layer Cake” as proof of his talent. I watched it. I enjoyed Craig. (Those abs … wow!) But I still couldn’t see him as Bond.

Even after I finally caved to “Casino” the other night, I haven’t changed my mind, though Craig seemed to do fine. I liked that he was rougher around the edges, but his performance seemed flat and monotonous. So forgive me for not being upset that he may not be back for a third installment.  I’ll still see “Quantum of Solace” – eventually – but I may be more excited when a new actor takes the helm.

And who should that be? There are a few I believe may do a bang-up job.

First on my list is Christian Bale. I know, I’ve already explained why he can always put me in a theater seat, but this man can definitely pull off this secret-agent role.  He’s done smooth yet crazy (“American Psycho”), action hero (“Batman” and the upcoming “Terminator 4”), mentally haunted (“The Machinist”) and many other films that have shown his range of talent. And his ability to successfully relaunch a beloved character is proven by his Bruce Wayne/Batman. Plus, his recent roles already have his body in perfect shape for rolling around on a sandy beach with a Bond babe.

If producers are hoping for another blondish Bond, how about Kevin McKidd, most recently of Dr. McArmy fame on “Grey’s Anatomy”? McKidd has the chops to play a total badass good guy bent on doing whatever it takes for the good of his country, as evidenced by his stint as Lucius Vorenus in HBO’s “Rome.” His role on “Grey’s” also shows that even as a tough guy, he’s got a heart, perfect for falling in love with all the wrong ladies. And his voice, oh … that gruff, sexy growl! It’s perfect for Bond, along with his rugged looks.

For the fun, charming factor, Blair Underwood would be my pick. He’s done sneaky bad guy (“Dirty Sexy Money”) and charming romantic hottie (“Sex and the City”). And in those roles, he’s proven he can be cool as a cucumber when things don’t go his way, not to mention his draw with the beauties, which is a requirement for Bond.

Who do you think would make a great Bond?

I still think they should bring back Pierce Brosnan. It was a mistake to let him go. Although a fun sexy replacement could be LL Cool J!
Daniel Craig is a fantastic Bond.  I couldn't disagree with you more.  If anything is flat -- it is and has always been the writing that the franchise puts out.  You want more breadth and depth -- look to script and the editing and stop complaining about the actors.
Ron Jeremy
A couple years ago I made a prediction that Jude Law will play Bond one day. I really hope I'm right on this one. He's so dreamy! :)
Gene Simmons
Adrian Paul of "Highlander"
I was skeptical when Daniel Craig was chosen, but I think he's the best Bond since Sean Connery.  Moore was too suave, and while Brosnan was a bit more menacing at times, neither embodied the cold-blooded killer you'd expect a "double-0" to have to be.  Craig could be accused of being a bit too robotic but I think he nailed the part.

"Casino Royale" did a lot to reinvigorate the franchise in my opinion.  Without the breathtaking change in the Bond character and the film's tone, I think the series could have withered and died.

As for future Bonds, before Craig was named as the new 007 Hugh Jackman's name was kicked around.  I think he'd make a good Bond and we know he has some good acting chops.
To me, there have only been three Bonds: Connery, Moore, and Bronson. The rest just don't fit the character for me.

I'd pick Ben Browder.
tom cruise.
The one...the only Bond...Sean Connery.  No one can replace him!
Craig is, hands down, the best Bond ever.  As for locating a new Bond, I suggest going to the source, Ian Fleming, who wanted Trevor Howard to play the role.  Look around for a Trevor Howard type and you will see Fleming's vision for Bond's look.
Clive Owen, definitely! Hugh Jackman would be wonderful too. Maybe a beefed-up Michael Vartman?
Kevin McKidd all the way! I could  certianly "Bond" with him! ... I want to love Christian Bale, but there is just something wierd about his mouth...
Anyone who has actually read the original books believes that Craig is an outstanding Bond, and will even defend Timothy Dalton. Both reflect the grittiness of the original character.

Moore and Brosnan turned the character into caricature.
I've seen one Bond film, it was with Pierce Brosnan and Denise Richards. I don't remember the name, so obviously, I could care less about the Bond film.
But it was rumored a few years ago that Gerard Butler was one of the top contenders to replace Brosnan. That's the one guy that would get me to the theater to see a Bond film. He's smart, sexy, charming, and quick-witted.
Henry Cavill, who plays Charles Brandon on The Tudors.  He was in competition with Craig until they decided they wanted a more rugged look.  Henry is more smooth and suave and gorgeous.

Bronsan was not a very good james bond, see all his movies he never changes character. Daniel Craig is an excellent James Bond. I have seen every James Bond film made. My favourite was Timothy Dalton. Blair Underwood pleseeeeeeeeeee you got to be kidding.
Alex O'Loughlin would make an excellent James Bond - he's suave, gorgeous, tall, sexy, and likes to do his own stunts.  What more do you want (oh, the smile that makes your knees weak!)
Daniel Craig is the best Bond since Connery. He gets the ruthless spy that Ian Fleming wrote about.  Bond in the novels was brutal and edgily charming, which Craig pulls off.
That said, if he had to be replaced, Christian Bale would be perfect - and it would be nice to see him in a major role with his native accent.  He's got the talent, the look, and would bring a different gravitas to the brutal/charming mix that is so hard to get right.

Clive Owen is another good choice, would be a throwback to the "suave", Bond, not as dangerous, but a great ladykiller.

There aren't too many truly talented actors that could take this role to a level beyond Craig, he's brought real talent to a role that became almost a parody and made it real again.  Most of the actors these days are pretty boys who need strong direction.
Daniel Craig is a superb Bond with his rugged edginess and unconventional good looks; although if he wasn't around, my money would be on Clive Owen.
Connery holds the top spot for me, but he was great in his time.  Daniel Craig is the modern Bond and I think he's ideal. I was one of the few that  had total faith that he would be great and I was not disappointed.  I like Christian Bale, but he's not Bond.  McKidd and Underwood wouldn't even show up on my radar.
Daniel is the toughest Bond and I like his image best as an action hero and sex symbol. But I feel like he's robotic and even approaching comic/computer generated figure. He can even be "mute" Bond. The action sequences in the last movie is approaching the level of TV games and not acting. Script.. nothing.
Ann from Texarcana--You're spot-on, girl!  There is only ONE James Bond and that is our guy, Sean Connery. The End.
Although "Ian, Glascow" said it eloquently, I'll say i this way...BOOOOOOOO!!!!! You suck. Have you ever read the books that Fleming wrote? This Bond is supposed to be a break from what has become an empty advertising machine. Craig brings long overdue substance to the role. Keep watching Grey's Anatomy for your "hunks" and crappy plot lines.
jude law..he's got that smarmy look to start with, an itinerant wise-guy, and he can dance the pants off of craig!
Brosnan was not the best Bond. He was just too animatronic and Disney for me, almost like he was couldn’t find the character of Bond within himself so he just acted the way he thought Bond fans wanted Bond to be.
The truth is just about any actor can be Bond, it just takes a well written script and good direction. (Poor Tim, never had either.)  Craig is great. Who’s next? Well, it’s not up to me or you; just sit back and let the Broccoli team surprise us again.
Sean Connery is James Bond.  He will always be James Bond.  I didn't ever think that there could be another James Bond.  Daniel Craig changed my mind.
I think Dominic Purfoy who was the king in "A Knights Tale" with Heath Ledger would make a super "007 BOND" man hansome charming wonderful eye candy
Well, I' really dating myself, but Sean Connery WAS James Bond. No disrespect to all the others in the interim, but Daniel Craig is the first one since Connery to bring a kind of rugged charm the others lack. On the other hand, I would pay to watch Cristian Bale doing his laundry . . . so when Craig gets bored (and he will becauase he's a character actor), I vote for Bale, with Hugh Jackman as first runner-up.
I was terribly skeptical of Daniel Craig playing Bond. (My all-time favorite is S. Connery.) But after seeing Casino Royale - MAN! Love him, love him, LOVE him! He has the perfect mixture of charm, darkness, physical ability and wit. He is HOT! (PS I like Blair Underwood, but not for Bond.)
Alex O'Loughlin has the complete package and an incredibly huge fan base.  He is excellent with action and loves doing it (is fearless).  He screen tested for Bond but it went to Craig. Go figure that one.  He's gained more experience since then and deserves another shot.
I used to think that Timothy Dalton was the worst Bond actor - until I saw Pierce Brosnan.  Not sure if it was him or the writing, but the Brosnan Bond films were horrible.  Brosnan looked the part, but something was lost when he tried to act the part.  The slightly wicked-naughty, tongue-in-cheek, wink-your-eye flirtiness that Connery and Moore had was missing.  He took himself too seriously.  Daniel Craig is a definite step in the right direction.  But we'll never get back to the good old days of Bond, though.  For one, the Cold War is over and you just can't replace that good guy vs. bad guy vibe that existed during the Cold War (the same could be said about the Olympics).  And secondly, Bond has become too politically correct.  Gone are the days when he slapped women on the behind and dragged them off to his room.  Political correctness has ruined the essence of James Bond.  If you want a Bond that emulates Roger Moore's performance, go with a Ewan McGregor-type actor.  If you want a Sean Connery, go with Ralph Feinnes or Jude Law.  If you want Brosnan, go with Bale.
Dan Radcliffe, but he's says he's too short and he's "goofy cute" besides. HA!
I think Adrian Paul (formerly from the "Highlander" series) would make an excellent Bond.  Suave, sophisticated and has already proven himself in the action vein.
Clive Owen.  Didn't like Roger Moore or Pierce Brosnan at all.  Timothy Dalton was good (but I think his stories were better), and Connery was the best.  Havn't seen Craig, yet.
Mr.Craig has turned me into a Bond fiend like no other before.I can only get as excited if Mr.Gerald Butler became the next 007.
Much like an fine Picasso there is no replacement for an original. There is only one James Bond, the rest are just pretenders!

          The original, SEAN CONNERY!
I think each actor that played Bond (except G Lazenby) was interesting and fun. The movies are all very entertaining and offer much needed levity in a world that has too much sadness. It's an escape.  Craig epitomizes the beginning stages of James Bond.  It will be fun to watch him evolve into the suave character that appears in later Bond novels. My only complaint is that he appears so short.
I quit watching when Pearce left & Daniel took over. Do not like him...I wanted Hugh Jackman
Craig needs to do more than two for people to judge him the best Bond of all time. Sean Connery is a movie legend because of Bond. He made the role his own and his films are the standard for the franchise. Craig is good but he does not have the charm of Connery.
Anybody who thinks Craig is the best Bond clearly has no appreciation for the entire catalogue of Bond films.  Connery was clearly the best, followed closely by Brosnan.  Craig is horrible (though Dalton was the worst) and I'll be happy to see him go.
Christian Bale would be my first choice, as he is a brilliant actor; however, I don't know he would want to do another serial character after the Batman movies.  Should he say no, Clive Owen would a wonderful second choice.
If there has to be a new bond it has to be Clive Owen, he should be the only choice. Come on he's the epitomy of the suave British male. By the way, Craig is good, Bronson was awesome, Connery was the original, but Moore was Bond.
Because he always embraces a role and BECOMES the character, my vote would be Johnny Depp.  He IS Capt Jack, Willy Wonka, Gilbert Grape, etc etc....he always  IS the character.  I think he'd create an excellent Bond--besides, he's well received with the ladies.
Craig's portrayal of bond is very reminiscent of Sean Connery's early bond films.  This new bond also seems to fit Flemings idea of what bond is like.  Reading the Fleming books James was rough around the edges but mentally and physically tough.   I think Craig does a superb job and I am glad to see a bond that is back to basics.
I said it hear the last time this question was asked, and I'll say it again... Denzel Washington! Look at his body of work and there is no doubt that he can do tough guy, action, romance, suave, etc.  He would be AWESOME!  Hey,  if we can see past color and elect our first black president, maybe it's time we break the mold a bit more and have our first black Bond (not that that is why I am calling for Denzel.  He just rocks all his rolls.)
My husband - gorgeous, outdoorsy, devastating blue-gray eyes, wonderful physique, former Marine, etc.  On second thought, I'll keep him as my own James Bond.
Ok, if you haven't taken the time to see Casino and refuse to see Quantum, then don't make a comment.  I was skeptical about Craig when he was announced, but when I saw Casino, he blowed me away.  A perfect portrait of what Flemming intended in his first few novels. I still think Connery is the best bond, but if Craig continues with the 3rd and 4th movies, and the directors do him justice, I think he will surpass Connery as the best bond ever.
I loooooooove the Blair Underwood idea, Christian Bale also sounds great, Kevin McKidd would be my last choice of the three, but still a good choice.
Huge Laurie from the TV show "House". Nuf said.
Stephen Moyer. He is handsome and a great actor. Plus he has a wonderful British accent. Also Gerard Butler.
