Easy to be Team Eric on 'True Blood'

Has there been a show more fun than this season’s “True Blood”? It reminds me how ponderous some of my other favorite dramas can get. Meanwhile, Jason Stackhouse is trying to figure out if Sam could turn into a chicken and lay and eat his own eggs. He also questioned Sam’s sexual behavior as a dog. As I giggled watching him, I realized how much I had missed having a show that was pure daffy fun. Not since “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” which got rather heavy-handed in its later seasons, has there been a show that reveled so much in its own silliness.

HBO
Maryann, you were fun for a while, but now it's time for you to go.

This season was even better than the first. The rise of Eric to lead character status was a savvy move. I’m certainly on Team Eric these days. Bill, who was such a dangerous character in season 1, now seems positively stately and safe compared to Eric. Is it wrong to want Eric and Sookie to end up in bed together?

Godric’s short visit to season 2 was also fascinating. More peace-loving than even the staid Bill Compton, Godric just wished everyone could get along. Well, they couldn’t. And his exit, with Sookie looking on and Eric’s howl of pain was a season highlight. It also makes me wonder if we will see more vampire suicides in future shows, which makes me think of Jessica.

Her relationship with Hoyt is something out of ever girl’s adolescent nightmares. Is there a woman out there that doesn’t groan at the thought of every time being just like her first time? Oy. Her adolescent angst has fangs and superspeed to amp it up to crazytown. Talk about a no-win situation. Though, I would argue that Hoyt’s evil mom had that little bite coming. Will these crazy kids be able to work it out?

And speaking of crazy kids. It’s not looking good for Tara’s beau Eggs. Actor Mechad Brooks just landed a role on ABC’s midseason replacement legal drama “The Deep End.” Looks like he may not survive the epic battle with Maryann.

I’m feeling about done with Maryann. It’s amazing how even an orgy can start to feel repetitive if you have one every single week. So seeing her vanquished will feel satisfying. I do love that her storyline has brought some other characters out of the background.

Who would have thought Detective Andy Bellefleur would become the voice of reason, one of the few able to resist Maryann (and how does he do that exactly?), and a perfect foil for Jason. And I am so glad that Lafayette lived to see season 2. His post-traumatic vampire disorder combined with his usual sass makes for a more dimensional character. I’m hoping we get to see more interaction with Eric if Lafayette makes it through season 2.

And who will survive? The likely dead include Maryann, Eggs and maybe even Terry.  Is there someone I’m missing?  What do you think will happen with the finale? Who would you like to see bite the dust and who should survive? And how do you feel about some of the new characters, such as Evan Rachel Wood’s vampire queen and the anti-vamp fanatics, Steve and Sarah Newlin?

OMG- I agree with you 100% about Mary Ann- enough already. I have seen enough humping and black eyes for a lifetime!! Just love Eric , now, and Sookie's dreams about him- very hot. Terry can go, but will miss Egg's hot bod! ( anybody but Sam- he's a survivor)  The vampire queen gets on my nerves - let's comcentrate on Bill, Sookie, and Eric.  I can hardly wait for season 3-
EGGS!!! I WANT EGGS!!!!

^_^
That is all.
Godric was so fascinating, I watched those scenes over and over. His face was angelic, and when told the congregations of haters "I am older than your Jesus, I wish I could have met him" I got chills. I hated to see him go.
Love Love LOVE True Blood... its hilarious, yummy to watch and really a great show.  I would love to see Steve and Sarah gone too.  Too bad Eggs is leaving, he was a great addition to Tara's drama.  Cant wait to see the season finale!
Maryann will be gone, Eggs likely too, but I wish they would have cast ANYONE else besides Evan Rachel Wood in the queen role. Really?? I think Terry will make it, but some of the local folk that we didn't learn much about will likely be gone. I hope Lafayette makes it because his character is great. :) I also think the Newlins will make a comeback in season 3.
love Steve Newlin Character-hilarious and entertaining, do not like the choice of Evan Rachel Wood for the Queen, not impressed with her performance.
All team Eric here, I have wondered since season one how Sookie could prefer Bill over Eric- ) I promise that if it were me I would not make it to season three, without enjoying spending quality time with the vampire that just turns my blood to lava. Eric sure is cute.
I agree enough of Maryann.  The mess of the town is enough for her exit in my opinion.  Just plain disgusting and weird.  I too loved Godric and his quiet strength.  I also love Eric's quick temper but his crying scene blew his image.  I see vampires as those who demand respect and maintain control but Eric didn't look that way on his knees.  I especially love Lafayette but was not happy to see Maryann got to him too, I was hoping he was above that.  Bill needs to be more forceful to make him interesting.
This is easily the best show on TV -- smart, funny, ironic, in fact way smart but not in a self-important, pontificating kind of way.  It doesn't take itself too seriously (how can it given the subject matter?), but my god, the performances of these actors.  Keep in mind that many of the so-called Southerners are Australians.  Wow.  I can't believe the awards shows get away with ignoring them.
I'm glad you made the reference to Buffy.  I think that was very poignant because i feel the same way.  I haven't (pun intended) sunk my teeth into another show like I had Buffy until this one.  While a fan of the books (and at times I have a very hard time dealing w/ the changes they are making) I find that this is not one that disappoints like most do that don't follow the book to a T.  I think this is heightened by it.  The Jason Stackhouse in the books didn't make me laugh so hard.  The Tara in the books was never so bold.  The Lafayette so involved and so (as far as the actor is concerned) talented.  I'm REALLY looking forward to the next 7 seasons or more, that is if Bill and Sookie's off screen relationship doesn't fall apart first taking the rest of it down w/ them.  (Looking forward to next season... hope it at least loosely follows the books as this one does, will be SO good!!!)
I was pleasantly surprised with rachel even wood.  Her dark humor timing is a treat to see!
Well I've read the books and I love Eric!!! I hope Allan Ball keeps Lafayette on the show, I think he could just take the place of Bubba in the books "Eric's messanger Vamp". I know they will get rid of Maryann but the question is how. Eggs is going for sure. I can't wait to see how it all plays out. I got HBO just for the show.
I am so tired of Maryann!!! She is long overdue to go.  Now Eric, we need to see even more of him (if you know what I mean...). Looking forward to the finale, but hating that it will end for the season!
I like Eric, but him and Sookie just doesn't work. It just feels wrong. They won't be together. It even looks weird when she has dreams about him in bed together. Maryann needs to go. Sam will survive and so will Terry. Eggs will probably die or they will have to kill him. I always thought there was something evil about him anyway. Bill does need to man up though. I was really dissapointed when all he did was bite Maryanne, how come he didn't just rip her apart? Jason is starting to get on my nerves too with this whole militia thing he's got going. It will all work out, they always show you the worst and then bring it all back together the way it should be. Bill needs to man up and put Eric in his place, and Sookie needs to realize the powers she obviously has. I would also like to know more about Sookie and Jason's parents.
Bill's character this season is really boring. Eric's character is much more interesting - even though he's much different than the book Eric. I just can't help but be drawn to that gorgeous Swede, Alexander Skarsgard :]
Yes, I agree, ScarlettO - I adored Godric.  I have seen the episode where he 'gives himself to the sun' several times; he was one of those characters that I fell in love with instantly.  And, such a contrast of when you first meet him; making Eric 1000 years ago, dark, dangerous and embrassing his nature to his calm, soothing demeanor in present time.  I was so sad to see him go - they need flashbacks!!
I think both Eric and Bill are great characters in different ways.  I really like what Alan Ball is doing with the series.  I can't wait for the season finale!

www.truebloodnet.com
Oh no, not Terry!  Arlene needs to be happy once she returns from being a zombie!  After that whole Rene/Drew Marshall mess of Season 1.  I love the Jessica and Hoyt story line - and I hope Sarah Newlin comes back to visit Jason at least once (grow a brain cell!!!)!  But absolutely:  ENOUGH MARYANN!!!  YUCK!
I really dug the Maryanne storyline for a long time. I think the actress has done an amazing job. But, it's getting to be too much even for me. I truly hope Terry makes it out alive. His performance in "New World in my View" was one of the highlights of this season for me. He's the only one who gets saner under Maryanne's influence. And the best line of season 2 belongs to him in that episode, "We will unf**k this situation at a later date."

I hope Eggs makes it through, but I can see where that might not work. Poor Tara....though she does partially deserve it for the evil thing she said to everyone in "Frenzy". My favorite character of the whole show is Lafayette and I loved the discussion between him and Sookie about their erotic dreams of Eric. I'm with them on that one....bite me baby.
Raise your hand if you have sex dreams about Eric!  That man is fine!  Evan Rachel Wood certainly looks the part, but her role was written terribly.  I expected the queen to be a lot more threatening.  Instead she came off as a silly, petulant little brat.  She seems entirely too stupid to be Queen.  I'm also very disappointed in the loss of Godric.  Maybe they'll have him some flashback scenes with Eric because he was fascinating.
True Blood is the best.  I love Bill and Sookie but Eric makes me melt.  He just exudes sexual energy.  I agree that the Maryann storyline is overplayed and I'm sure her, Eggs and a few of the other townfolk will be diminished.  BTW, Sookie prefers Bill because he had her drink his blood to save her life in the very first episode.
I was getting a little tired of Tara and Eggs because all they seemed to do is make out. I thought there would be a new storyline with them when they drove out to get a part for the water heater in Sookie's house.  Remember Eggs seemed to think the area they drove through was familiar?!  Perhaps Eggs will disappear (since he is leaving the show) and Tara will go on the search for him.

I want nothing more than to see Lafayette's character develop even more!
The move to Team Eric was a natural transition from the books, still, it takes real trust between a director and his actors to be able to pull it off so well.  I knew about storyline from the books and suspected where they were going but they were able to write and place those building interactions in such a way that it didn't seem rushed or phony.
All three leads deserve a lot of credit for being able to pull this off and making all the noise that the MaryAnn story has become of little consequence compared to our vamp love triangle.  Bring on season 3!
I don't know much about Evan Rachel Wood, but I thought her acting was HORRIBLE.  She looked great and the scenes were beautiful, but every time she opened her mouth she sounded like a California teenager.  She needed to have a more refined speech pattern being as old as her character is.  I'm also done with Maryann and hope she bites the dust.  This is one of my favorite shows in YEARS and I hope it continues on this path as it just keeps getting better.
If you read the books, Sookie ditches Bill when she finds out he was sent to woo her. At the end of the last book, she is essentially 'married' to Eric - but not happy about it. She does end up sleeping with him during a period when he has no memory of who he is. If we have Maryann, where is Naill - Sookie's grandfather (and one of the most powerful fae)? Also, where are the werewolves & other shifters?
Team Bill!
i know!  maryann needs to go already...tired of her, eggs, and (especially since season 1) tara.  i wish they would just axe her too, but leave lafayette - LOVE HIM!  as much as i love sookie & bill together, i love the drama of eric in the mix.
First I love the show....But I may be in the minority in that I think there is too much humor in the show. I certainly don't mind some humor but they have gone too far. Is it a sitcom? I want to be scared..not laugh. It needs to take itself more seriously.

2nd. Did not like the portrayal of the vampire queen. I expected her character to be more regal, classy, and very wise. Obviously she is very old but she acted like an oversexed teenager. She would have outgrown that centuries ago.....and playing Yatzee?! Ridiculous.

3rd. Bill's character shows too much emotion now, he acts like a human.

4)Eggs has a hot body.....exactly where is he finding his gym time when he is Maryanns full time black eyed slave.

5)The "egg" in the nest on the bed.....was bizarre and totally stupid.

6)Hopefully Eric and Lafayette will get together in season 3. Now that would be hot.
I love True Blood and have fallen for Eric completely now. Alexander Skarsgard is such a wonderful scene stealer. So much talent with what he is given to work with. Hopfully we will see more of his shenanigans next season, cause there wasnt nearly enough this season. Jason is such fun to watch too. Sam is the underdog (Did I just say underdog?) you cant help love him. Mary Ann was fine but the weakest plotline and needed to go episodes ago, but that is my opinion. Looking forward to next season. Bring on the Big Swede!
I am an avid fan of the books, but I really like that the show is a fair bit different. It's great not knowing exactly what is going to happen when I flip on the TV Sunday nights!

For all the Eric fans out there, I highly recommend picking up book 4 of Charlaine Harris's Sookie series, "Dead to the World". If the Eric on TV makes your melt/pant, wait til you get a load of him in this book! He's SPECTACULAR!!!
By the way love the Maryann character..but the direction they went could have been better... a little too far. Her acting was fantastic and would hate to see her go.
Hey "you should read more", none of those characters show up until at least book 3. Some don't even show up until book 7. We're only on book 2 as far as the show goes. And don't spoil it for people who haven't read the books! Sheesh!
Team Eric here too. Bill is one-dimensional and boring! He hasn't done anything this season other than boss Sookie around like she's a child and run in screaming her name. Eric has so many layers that we have only begun to see. I can't wait to see the development of the Eric & Sookie relationship next season.

What will probably happen in the finale? Bill has a plan and it appears he is sacrificing Sam but they are working together. MA gets her sacrifice with Eggs and leaves town. Eric is stuck in New Orleans with the Queen (horrible acting by ERW, btw) and is not involved in any of the action in Bon Temps(BIG BOO to that since he's the one that was there helping Sookie with the maenad and Bill arrived late in the books). Everyone goes back to normal and tries to forget anything happened. And once again Bill is the hero (gag) and B/S have their beautiful dance. Bill is kidnapped and the audience is left wondering if Lorena or Eric (who told the queen he would take care of Bill) is the kidnapper. groan. Hopefully Alan Ball is smart enough to know that Eric would NEVER kidnap Bill.

What should happen? Queen is the one making Eric sell V, and that's why she wants him to keep Bill quiet. Eric arrives to help take care of MA(who leaves once Eggs dies). Bill truly sacrificed Sam which infuriates Sookie and his true character is finally being revealed. Bill disappears but he willingly leaves with Lorena (as it should be...just like in the books).
I don't understand why Alan Ball, of all people,  is keeping the story line so heterosexual! I can't imagine that vampires would be so straight laced...it just doesn't make sense.  Plus a little gay/bi action would make it more interesting, after all the general population is 10-20% non straight. Are these homophobic vampires?
Sam's a goner.
God hates fangs and fangbangers!
I agree that Maryann and Eggs are both goners. I'd be less sorry to see Arlene die than I will to see Terry, but I know she is more prominent in the story than he, so he might. I think that it's more likely to be a lot of the minor characters who've indulged in wanton hedonism this season, though.

I really like Maryann as a villain, although I could've gone my entire life without seeing that fat guy who censors his genitals with his rolls. I certainly would rather spend an eternity in her company than an hour with the Newlins, but I guess that's just me.

I've liked Evan Rachel Wood since Running With Scissors, which she was just adorable in. I thought the dialogue written for her character was a little awkward, and I think she really did the best she could with it. I hope that this character will become a little more real as she settles into the show.

Godric was just amazing. I was hoping he'd become a regular character. Although I read the books, I was sincerely wishing for this character to be spared. Alexander Skarsgard was amazing in the goodbye scene, too. I still get a lump in my throat when I think about that final interaction between Godric and Eric.

Lafayette is my favorite character and I hope the reprieve he was granted this season extends to the next. I've actually heard some fans of the books complain that he wasn't killed, and hope for him to die this next episode. I enjoy True Blood so much more than I did the Sookie Stackhouse books that I hope they keep switching up the plot from the books. Their new plotlines are so much more interesting, although these last two episodes could have been written better... They seemed very contrived and thrown together, like they were just wasting time to get to the finale.

Jason is becoming one of my favorite characters in the show, too, and I can't wait to see what he does this week.

Agreed the Queens acting sucked. In the books the Queen is so strong yet sophisticated and Evan Rachel Wood ruined her. She sucks! Team Eric all the way...Bill is boring and very predictable. Im over him.
If it takes killing the queen to remove Evan Woods from True Blood then by all means kill her. Please..
I think Eggs and Mary Anne are on the way out. I liked Maryanne, her actress has done an amazing job. I never cared for Eggs at all. I would like to see Tara get her attitude back and Sam needs to survive!
I will be terribly unhappy if Lafayette doesn't make it... I love him and his sassy ways. I would love to see the queen reincarnated with another actress.

I would love to see more romance between Bill and Sookie before Eric gets his fangs all sharpened for her. I hope they will pull this triangle out for a while. I love Eric and Pam- they are my favorites. Lorena is a great character, and I hope we haven't seen the last of her. I love the broodiness of the show sometimes, with its darker moments and characters.

And some credit to the music in the show. I really love it. It takes some of the moments to great heights. I totally love this show- can't get enough!
I totally agree about 86'ing Maryann. Enough is enough. I had been looking forward to Evan Rachel Wood's debut as Queen, but was quickly disappointed. Beyond her obvious beauty, there's nothing there. The poor thing can't act her way out of a paper bag. I enjoy Eric's character this season with all its development, but still don't want to see him with Sookie. Bill's character needs to get more interesting: he's fading into the background too much. If it doesn't, who would blame Sookie for moving over to Eric?
The Queen, while she's lived as a vamp for many a year, she was young when she was turned I'm guessing since she looks young. So, I understand her attitude, but I'm not sure I like her character.

I love that even though I've read all the books it doesn't matter! I'm still sitting on the edge of my seat like everyone else trying to wait patiently for Sunday :-)
Yes, MaryAnn and orgies are getting old.  She's definately gone, as well as Eggs because Tara has to be miserable. Lafayette will hopefully get more interesting.  MY BIGGEST CONCERN is stoopid HBO who gets you all drawn into a series and cancels it...Carnivale, Deadwood, etc..I was afraid to get hooked on this show because they've done it to everyone I've liked.  Hopefully they won't be so dumb this time and realize what they have here!  Go True Blood
Love the show but remain a Bill-Sookie fan!  What chemistry between those two! Eric is certainly attractive but there is no screen chemistry between he and Sookie.  I also think the Bill-Sookie pairing is essential to the show overall.  The character of Eric does too much plotting and scheming to be rewarded with Sookie, although a Lafeyette/Eric hook-up would be VERY sexy! Plus Bill's struggle to "mainstream" even while with Sookie is also interesting.
I'm still predicting that Hoyt will get made before end of this season.  And there is more to the cop than meets the eye.
I was disappointed that they changed the Maryann storyline from the books.  Although I am happy that Lafayette is alive because he's a great character I'm sad that we didn't get to see Eric in pink lycra shorts making out with Sookie at the orgy.  I'd pay good money to see Alex Skarsgard in lycra shorts.  :P  I hope they continue to use the books as a framework for Season 3.  There are a lot of good things in those books that I want to see on the screen.
Read the books, you'll be way ahead of the series.
Sookie does end up with Eric but Eric won't remember becuase he has amnesia.
Thank you so much for stating the one question that no other Web sites or articles have said, and I've read almost all of them! What is it about Andy and Jason that make them immune to Maryann? I think anyone who has read the books might take a stab or a guess as to why Jason might be immune, but why is Andy? I honestly have no clue. What is Alan planning with Andy? Is Andy some sort of supe and doesn't know it? Or is it just that he's always so drunk that it makes him immune to the crazy eyes syndrome?
The Queen?  Waste of an episode!  She was more a spoiled sorority girl than something Bill should have deferred to.  Eric?  Since he duped Sookie into sucking out the silver bullet I was hooked!  Love the bad boys!!  Bill?  Still don't get that casting.  The acting is flat and he has no screen presence.  Lafayette?  Hope he makes it.  GREAT character with lots of potential.  Maryanne?  ENOUGH ALREADY!  There's such a thing as building suspense but now it's just monotonous!  Yea, yea, she shakes, yea, yea, an orgy starts...yawn!
