I haven't watch 'Idol' since the first two seasons, and this very well may be my last, unless they change the voting somehow, like, vote for who you want to go home. Sanjaya is simply the butt of a big joke, and if he somehow (I won't say remarkably because at this point its futile) he makes it to the finals, all he will have is an inflated ego, but still little more talent than a good karaoke singer. And I can't believe Sligh went home, he actually had personality, which you can't really say for the other guys, whose names I can't even remember (Chris, Mike?) So needless to say, Stern's "Vote for the Worst" campaign is working. I do beleive he is much better than Sanjaya though. Sanjaya has talent but is holding back. You catch a glimpse every now and again. We shouldnt have to wonder how good he is, this is his chance and people have to go on talent, not looks. Having said that, I feel Lakisha should win this competition. Melinda might be singing better but this competition should not be for professional singers who can't make it on their own, but for the singers who are "discovered" through the audition process. Melinda has had many years of formal training and experience and even though she is great, if Lakisha had the same training and experience she would be better than Melinda. I dont feel Lakisha will be overlooked anyhow, I think she will be one of the most successful singers to come through American Idol. People should assess their choices by what the contest is supposed to be and re-read the rules if they dont remember what this is all about.

Early attention isn't everything on 'Idol'

People are trashing Sanjaya, about how dreadful of a singer he is. Yes, he did talked back to Simon. As I recalled earlier seasons, Simon said he'd rather have someone talk back at him, than just to have someone standing there like a robot & taking in the insults. Sanjaya did just that...talked back. So, what's wrong with that???

Chris was a lot of fun and had a strong voice. I just wish he could have learned to stay on tempo - the judges commented on that problem every week but he was never able to correct it. Unfortunately, on a song like 'Every Little Thing She Does is Magic' the beat is so distinct and integral to the song that being off even the littlest bit comes across as a glaring mistake. I'll miss Chris, but at least he made the top 10 and will have a chance at a contract and will perform on the tour. I guess Blake will have to hold it down for the men now. People who are voting for that no talent bum with his snotty attitude and his oversized ego have the same IQ as he does roughly 10 and that's being generous.I can understand why people are angry since they see people with much more talent being booted off the show every week and this smart a-- kid sits there with a stupid grin on his face knowing that a vast majority of the ignorant are going to vote for him simply to ruin the show.
I have heard the word racist come into play, that everyone is against him because of his race, so not true, it is completely the other way around if anything. he's getting the votes because of his race which is just as wrong. The biggest reason of the sentiment against him is because of his lack of talent, the song he sang Tuesday was awful and he forgot the words any other person would have been booted off no question, but because VFTW and that idiot Howard Stern are backing this kid he remains.
I myself wouldn't want to let anybody know I even listened to Howard Stern in the first place since it would drag my IQ points down by 2/3rds and to vote for this kid, well that would put it right down there in the gutter. What scares me is that the people who are doing this are the future of our country and that my friends be very afaid, be very very afaid.

Early attention isn't everything on 'Idol'

THis is to Karen from Phoenix, can you be any more ignorant? Everybody's just being mean to Sanjaya, looking at his faults, and the article isn't even ABOUT him. People, the show is no longer a singing competition, it's a popularity contest. Anything to make you memorable, like Sanjaya's mohawk thing will keep you in. And people want to win. So they go ahead and do things like dress as a picnic table, and wear leather pants, and just try to make an impression. That's all this is, when it gets to where America can vote.

I think Simon is the only one who realizes that the singers will only do well if they are marketable. Gina sang an awfully bland song for her previous style, and Simon said it was her best performance. Now, obviously everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but that was just silly.

I'm glad SOMEbody else saw Sanjaya forget his lyrics. It bothered me that none of the judges said anything. Still, he recovered fairly well for such a shy boy. On the other hand, he really needs to have somebody hammer open that shell of his, because he is NOT singing to his full potential, which is more annoying than Chris being voted off.

Ya'll, you shouldn't be saying things like, "Ew, Sanjaya sucks because he's alive and just trying to do his thing and be remembered. He should die. Chris shouldn't have been voted off. blah blah blah."

If you hadn't seen all of Sligh's past performances, you KNOW you would have voted him off, too! Think about it. Just this performance? Sanjaya and Haley should have been long gone before some of the people who have exited recently.

I think we need to change the rules to American Idol: Survivor Style. Split the contestants into teams until they get to the final eight and let the team duke it out in a set number of performances solo, duo, trio or however many. Let the judges decide on those performances and rank the performances numerically. Let the losing team go to performer council and let the team decide on two people to leave and let America decide between them as to which one actually leaves. Then when it comes down to the final eight, you merge the teams and everyone sings solo. The judges and the team collaborate on which two to send home and America decided on one person who actually goes home until we get to the American Idol.

Early attention isn't everything on 'Idol'

Gee, Karen from Phoenix. I also do not appreciate the comments made by the judges that influence the voters..ie. Simon: Melinda, are you as nice as you seem? Lakisha, you look like you will in 50 years; Haley, ( re her revealing scotch taped outfit)... people will remember you for more than your singing tonight. I respect Simon's musical critiques but i have no respect for his personal comments which show favortism for more than a contestant's singing ability and stage presence.
I am flabbergasted by Karen of Pheonix and her outrageous comments regarding the weight of the contestants...Karen, if you want to view perfect figures , watch America's Top Models; they don't have to sing. ..and if they ate well, they would not be on the show. Every week he struggled with tempo issues and as the field gets smaller, a glaring issue like that will cost you. Sanjaya aside, the other so-so singers will face similar fates (Sanjaya just needs to go, but we may be stuck with him for a while longer). We all know the plot to this show...in the end, only one remains, and despite the best intentions of the judges and producers, the likelihood of this year's winner becoming a real recording star (a la Kelly or Carrie) is only about 50%. He sounded great. I think we perceive a little bit of insecurity in Phil(about his looks not his voice) and we see that as weakness and we tend not to vote for him based on that. (he does have incredible eyes, but it's the "SO white, bald head, and the ears stick out -the hats help)It would be nice to see him forget that and become confident. If this was " A SINGING COMPETITION" like everyone keeps trying to remind everyone of, it wouldnt be on TV, it would just be radio. Singing is the MOST important, but looks DEFINITELY matter. They play a part in the year long (money making)Idol tour, future live performances, commercials, music videos, etc.etc. OF COURSE it matters!(dont be naive) Now, on "looks", its not that you have to look like a beauty pageant contestant (although Haley does) or be a Ken doll, but when I say "looks", its not so much beauty as it is "coolness". You have to look "cool" and confident. (consider Taylor, certainly not a hunk, but had his cool bluesy thing going for him and moreover he was CONFIDENT!) LaKisha has a big and proud black woman thing going for her, but she needs to connect with the audience more personally though after the song, show more personality. Dolittle does seem to be fake though with the Golly Gee, little ol' me thing, its old now, she needs to show confidence now a be a star- the flips on her hair helped last week. Blake is totally hip, again not a Ken doll, but totally cool and hip,and a rare, true musician, I hope he wins. The other guy, the timberlake-like guy, he is hip and very cute for the young girls. Jordin is very cute, great voice, and love the personality. (the 3 ALL matter! (Total package!)) Gina is mediocre, but throws some variety in I guess. Haley, its obvious, Simon nailed it, tons of girls can do what she does, look great and sing descently, but no power house voice, she's no where near the talent of McPhee from last season, but in the same genre. McPhee edges out over her in looks I'd say as well.

Early attention isn't everything on 'Idol'

as if I didnt say enough before, yeah Chris Sligh sucked last week, likeable clever personality, but not good enough. and Sanjaya, cute kid, couldnt even here his singing last week, too distracted by the ridiculous hair, he can sing if he focuses on it, maybe take it seriously and get a good coach, he needs to play up his young charm and his hair is gorgeous when left naturally. I have to admit I'm actually starting to gain respect for Sanjaya--not as a singer, but as a gutsy kid. It's quite clear even HE knows he shouldn't be here, but what can he do? He does his best, I'm sure, but the rest is up to us, the voters. Last week's hairdo was just an indication that he is fully aware that at this point, it's out of EVERYBODY'S hands, even Sanjaya's and the judges. (I think it was a subtle snub, too, that he really doesn't care what Simon ad the rest say about him, he'll do what he wants.) I'm actually interested now to see what he'll do now.

Early attention isn't everything on 'Idol'

I've written the FOX network now I will make my commets here.I have watched American Idol for over three years. Look at Chris Daughtry, he gets 3rd place, but ends up dominating the charts. You watch, the same will go for Blake. He will be voted off, but then will sell the winner. I mean really, I'm a freak about this show, but now it's going a little too far. I think the producers should 1. Control the hair 2. Not be totally odd and 3. Have literally DIFFERENT TYPES OF PEOPLE ON IDOL> Every year it's the same blah-blah-blah and even though it's my personal addiction, I can almost read the lines that roll off the judges' tongues. So if anyone agress with me that reality should actually be reality, please say YEAH!!! at the top of your message.

His parents must be super money hungary to put this child through this, to me it's a form of child abuse both on the parents side and on the side of the media and both ought to be brought up on charges.
How could any responsible parent who loved their child let them make a fool of themselves on national TV every week just for the sake of money, maybe it's just me but the standards of the American public have gone down the hopper sell your soul for a few gold pieces.

How could any parent who loves their child let them be used in such a fashion if money wasn't involed. To let your child to be the butt of constant jokes and ridicule, to be hated in such a manner and to let them continue, I don't get it.
Parents are supposed to protect their children from harm and yet these parents are throwing this kid into the lions den every week. As for AI, I have watched since the beginning and I've come to realize that the judges and producers obviously select 1 or 2 contestants that they feel are a "long shot" but will boost ratings. I mean, come on, they allow us to see some of the actual auditions and it has become somewhat of a circus because all these nut-cases come out of the woodwork and they are passed through the initial screening process/allowed their 5 minutes of fame in the attempt to boost the show's ratings. I think the show would do just fine/if not better if they would only show those that are selected to go to Hollywood instead of dragging the show out for weeks to show those that are horrible/have no talent at all. As for the comment made regarding the weight of any contestant-that was pretty shallow. True talent is not based on what size, race or creed a person is. It's sad that today's society puts so much into how a person looks vs. if they really have any personality/talent. There are a few other changes I feel AI should make but the main one is I feel that the starting age should be 18 (those who have already graduated High School)and the limit 25. No offense to current/previous contestants that are/were under 18 or over 25. I just feel that if you're really that good/truely goal oriented you can hold off until you at least have a HS diploma under your belt and if you're over 25 then they should create another avenue for these people to follow. Being a teenager is hard enough but being an adult is even tougher and I feel rushing into any type of career that puts you in the publics' eye tends to make a person lose a part of themself/grow up way too fast. No doubt some people mature a lot faster than others just as well as some are still out there trying to find their place in the world even at 25. Enjoy being young while you have the chance for you can never go back.

Early attention isn't everything on 'Idol'

I watch AI and I see that everyone is so bitter about the show, This is like a t.v. game and may the best contestant win (in this case, the person with the best fans).AI has put out some good talent but those people had to bring it to make it, no one gave them anything. So even if your favorite person on the show gets voted off everyone that needs to hear this person in the industry has heard him/her and if they haven't word gets around if their is money to be made. So don't jump all over Sanjaya because he has a loyal fan base. I really don't think that he will win but if he does I hope that his fan base stays loyal to him because their are a lot of people out there that wants him to fall flat on his face. We knew Taylor Hicks won 3 hours before you did.

Early attention isn't everything on 'Idol'

OMG-you people really don't have anything better to do than write about this? I stumbled upon this blog by accident and was completely amused by all the entries-that's the only reason I read it-BECAUSE I HAVE A LIFE!!!!!! I usually don't waste my time griping about how things aren't perfect on a TV show, but I couldn't take it anymore about how "unfair" everything is. It's TV already, you want fair, write your own TV show! Oh, by the way, some people are "fat" because of genetics, not by how much they eat or lack of exercise. Get a clue, obviously you flunked biology????? GET A LIFE PEOPLE!!!!!!

Early attention isn't everything on 'Idol'

We think that the judges should be allowed one vote override from the time of the top 10 to the top 4. The attention one young semi-talented wanna be is getting needs to stop. This show is supposed to be about being the best.As Americans we have the right to vote so I say lets exercise that right and vote for a talented young "American" who can actually sing... By the way there is a lot of talent in Seattle unfortunately it is not on this show this year.
