I'm disappointed with the finale for many reasons. It was obvious that the producers wanted Cook to win because there would be no interfering parent and he would be easy to market. I think that the producers wanted it to go badly for Cook last night, so there could be controversy. Then right before the winner was announced Simon sucked up to Cook, probably because Simon already knew the winner or was in on the whole thing with the producers.

That being said, David Cook is a good singer, but is he unique? No. Go dig through myspace and there are lots of artists that sing as well as him and sound just like him. And every Tuesday new bands release albums that are as good as David Cook would make. David Cook will probably have a few good singles, but never attain great success because there are so many people just like him.

David Archuleta has an amazing voice and his music is beautiful and inspiring, and it's very rare to find someone with as much talent as him. He inspired so many people that one person asked people to contribute stories into a book about how David Archuleta has inspired them. He is a brilliant singer and if he sticks to a contemporary pop style he will be very successful, and he's got a lot ahead of him since he's just 17.

Did I miss something, was I sleeping for this season of AI? Surely DC's screams would have woken me up I suppose so I guess I wasn't sleeping. But enough sarcasm I totally agree that America got it right this season. I enjoyed DC's performances while I couldn't even watch DA's not to mention his interviews before and after his performance(I guess I was imitating Simon from Season 2 when he said it hurt to watch Clay Aiken). DC evolved throughout the course of the season while DA stayed stagnant. DA has an amazing voice but he was uninspiring and predictable both in his song choices and performances. DC took risks and while there were some off weeks he was determined to go for it each and every time he had the chance. He never gave up and remained true to himself and his music. DC did not always make the politically correct choice for navigating the show and this to me exempilfied integrity and sacrifice for his music when it would have been easier to do what others wanted and just skate into the finals. I am so happy DC won and I know he will do well with his music (unlike Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard who both don't have record companies and/or contracts).

P.S. For the poster who wanted to know what song DC performed with ZZ Top it was "Sharp Dressed Man."

P.S.S. I'm not a fan of Carrie Underwood but I was wondering how Bo Bice is doing better than she is after being runner-up on AI in Season 4?

Absolutely, the right person won American Idol! I was thrilled that David Cook won. Though, I will concede that Archuleta is a good singer. However, I do take issue with the judges saying he could sing anything. He never really went beyond a ballad during the entire competition. I would have liked to hear him attempt something rock and roll that wasn't a ballad (though if he had tried November Rain, I think that would have been quite a different thing for him to do and he might have been able to pull it off.) About the only time he tried something different was with the song from Phantom of the Opera, which I liked.
With David Cook he changed it up, tried different things, and made himself stand out. I'm not usually into the type of music he sings, but I was impressed with him, and he definitely deserved to win.
In defense, they will both probably have good careers with their respective audiences. Would I buy an Archuleta album? No, I wouldn't. He's a good singer, but I'm not a fan and he did nothing to convince me to buy any album he came out with. Would I buy a David Cook album? Probably, yes. I think he's an interesting artist, and I like that about him. I do wish them both success, as I wish many of the contestants this year success because they really were a very talented bunch of artists (Syesha, Carly, Michael, and Brooke I think will all do well.)

I think it's funny how people are saying that the producers wanted David C to win, but up until about, oh, um YESTERDAY, people were talking about how the producers wanted David A to win! And besides, the judges have favored David A since day 1! Anyway, I do think that both Davids have great voices, and will go far in their careers, but I think David C is more marketable right now. He has a solid style of music that people will buy now, he has his niche. I'm glad he won! I think David A will do fine in time, but he needs to find his niche. He is too young to be doing all of those old-school power ballads, but he doesn't quite sound right with the younger "shawty" type music either. Man, I'm glad to see this reaction and I, too, am thrilled that my man Cook won. In the end, it didn't matter to me if he won or not - I knew he would go on to do good things and I thought the teenage thing would win it for Archuletta who I like also. But as the season wore on Cook's brave interpretations of songs were amazing to me - and the mature way he handled himself was impressive - and apparently built a fan base that frankly I wasn't thought possible in the day and age of reality TV. Yet another weird ending to Idol. Cook is, as best, a decent garage band singer, but he's not a star. Archuleta may have lost votes by never straying from his "nice boy" image, but he was, by far, the better singer.

As far as the show itself goes, I agree with the comments about the loud audience squeals during the songs. It's both rude and unneccesary. And the fact is that it's "pumped up" by the audio crew, ...modern mics and sound systems can easily eliminate most, if not all of it. Same deal with the '80's hand-waving by the shills in the mosh pit. That gimmick was old when it was new.

Archuleta is a sorry, sappy clown of a boy band wannabee. To watch him is painful and adding his whiny voice reminds me of everything that is wrong with "Boy Bands" and AI. He murdered "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me" and the judges praised his cr**p!!! I winced every time he tried to hit a note that would show any range in his voice.

Bottom line for me-he can't sing, he's impossible to look at and America chose between the less of two low grade talents this season.

I watch moments of this season ,but had little interest in watching any one hour show. The "Talent" was decidely lower grade than in previous seasons IMHO.

What a joke! David Cook's "win" was nothing more than retribution for the early demise of Chris Daughtry on season 5.
Taylor Hicks won that year, and now what has happened to him? Oh, yeah, he lost his recording contract-what a surprise! Chris Daughtry is a superstar and a much better success than Taylor Hicks could ever hope to be, and it just goes to show...
The exposure is what it's all about. Just look at the Season Two finalists, Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken. Clay Aiken has had a much more celebrated and successful career.
It would be nice to have a real winner on the show one year. That hasn't happened since Carrie Underwood in Season 4.
Plainly and simply, David Archuleta was robbed due to a nation of horny teenage girls with cell phone up past their bedtimes. The real vocal talent did not win this year. A couple years from now, people won't remember the name "David Cook".

I am so happy that David Cook won. He was so deserving and is truly the better artist. There have only been two other contestants that I've been this passionate about winning - Clay Aiken and Bo Bice - and this time America got it right!!!! I loved how David Cook was so original and no matter what song he sang he made it his own. David A. is a great vocalist but no matter what song he sang his voice sounded exactly the same (except for the 1st song in finale which was a great song choice for him). I was so happy to see David C win, I have voted for him all season, I used to split my vote for him and Michael Johns, but I think David C showed real star potential. Let me say upfront that I think David Cook has a great voice. A great voice for a particular type of music - rock. But after watching him sing a number of different songs from other types of music, to call him America's next big singing star based on those performances is a joke. I think he probably has the best chance of making it big, but that is not the point. The point of this show is to have people sing songs and pick the best one. Given this, I think the show should let each person pick the songs they sing best - whether country, rock or whatever, BUT if they are going to always bring in stars from different areas of music, then someone like Cook should never win. His style is driving rock - all he did for me was remind me of Bono's screeching with Frank Sinatra on "I've got you under my skin". Cook did a great job with "Billy Jean", but sorry - it wasn't original - look up Chris Cornell on Youtube. Every song he did after that was terrible. And the way ALL THREE - including Simon - kept fawning over him was disgusting. He mumbled his way through the soft parts of each song until he got to the part where he could scream out the words - great for rock songs, but it just sucked with everything else. As I said, if they insist on using ALL types of music, they should be picking someone like Archuleta who can at least belt them out the way they were intended.

This was the first season that I actually watched from beginning auditions to the finals. I had watched the last few shows of season one (was pretty happy with results) and then again season two (totally shocked that Ruben won, didn't watch again until this year). David C. is no match to David A. on singing talent. All DC does is to shout on top of his lungs. Anybody can do that. Go dig through myspace and there are lots of artists that sing as well as him and sound just like him. And every Tuesday new bands release albums that are as good as David Cook would make. If AI limits number of votes per address like other show then the outcome will be different. Why do people keep saying he is too young? How old is Montana? Is she is too young?

ABSOLUTELY the most deserving David one. I have never gotten into this show as much as this year but David Cook kept me wanting more!! I was on the edge of my seat- literally- last night. He has an amazing style but is so incredibly compassionate too. Right when they announced him as the winner he turned to David A and applauded him. He's the best, hands down. David A does one style of song and it's the slow version. He couldn't keep up with Cook on the Chad Kroeger song, Hero, by any means. He forgot words more then once, which usually gets people knocked off. His album would bore me to death! I can't wait for D.C to release his first album!!

I feel (from his performance) David A. can ONLY do ballads...I mean his performance with ONE REPUBLIC last night was horrible. My ear was catching all the off pitch, flat notes he did. Let ONE REPUBLIC perform ... he didn't cut it last night's non-judging performance...from that point...I don't think he can do anything except BALLADS!

I was so into David Cook right from the beginning. I love him. His stage presence, his voice, his look, his choice of songs, love the whole package. Archie is okay but, no way, an American Idol. After awhile all of his songs sounded the same to me. Would never buy an Archie cd. The voting process American Idol has choosen to use is so flawed. It's a disgrace when during a previous season they compared the number of votes received to be more than ever in any presedential election. I didn't know that American Idol allows you to only vote once, oh yeah, that's not true, you can call 200 times if your foolish enough to spend that amount of time of your life for something so silly. Additionally I wasn't aware you had to actually leave your house to vote for your favorite idol contestant, oh yeah, that's not true either, you can call from the comfort of your home. No matter who won last night, it offends me to think that saying someone won by 12 million votes decided the outcome...it's somewhat true, but how many of those votes were by the same person or people? The lines were open for four hours. The magic of speed dial. Change the process. The top 4 are all great singers. Bravo to them all.

David Archuleta was the clear winner Tuesday evening during the show's finale. David Arfchuleta was so much better than David Cook was. All three judges got it correct Tuesday evening. The only reasons why David Cook won are as follows: (1) he is more mature than David Archuleta, even though David Archuleta acted the more mature when the decision was announced and he accused his brother for getting him the title since both brothers entered the competition and his brother was voted out or didn't even make it through the auditions, (2) David Archuleta is from Utah, a Mormon State and people just seem to distruct Mormons such as was done with Mitt Rommey who tried to run a clean campaign for the US Presidency but was not allowed to do so due to his religion, and (3), David Cook is a rocker whereas David Archuleta is not. Why have a season finale when the comments made by the judges are not taken into consideration when casting ballots. Surely the better David will succeed over David Cook as as been the case for previous Idol winners. David Archuleta, clearly was the winner and the voters made the incorrect choice for this season's American Idol. I have watched this reality show since its inception and I don't think I'll be watching it next year. No wonder the number of viewers has gone done over the past years because of results like this. Even before the finale, polls were showing David Cook to be the eventual winner no matter how poorly he did in the show's finale.

I have been a part-time musician for many years and find that the David Cook's of the world are everywhere. He can barely sing and doesn't have an original bone in his body. David Archuleta is fresh and original, plus he can really sing. America got this wrong again because they are use to the music industry pumping out trash and that has set the new standard. I am so happy to have been part of a generation that had quality musicians with quality music produced by people that had a clue.

I also have a feeling that David Archuleta's father had a lot to do with Cook's selection. It is very possible that the Idol producers padded the results in Cook's favor so they wouldn't have to deal with Mr. Archuleta. This would have caused a management nightmare and after dealing with Paula this season, I imagine that was enough of a nightmare in itself.

Thank goodness Cook won! Besides having the talent and personna to be a success, he's "move-in condition." Archuleta is talented but so young, on many levels. Both Davids are phenomenal. DC has the advantage of being older and more experienced; he's a complete artisitic package - songwriter, musician, singer, graphic designer, actor. DA is young and a very, very gifted singer - I think it's actually good for him that he has a musician father to inspire and guide him (perhaps we need to consider that his dad might be very good at what he does and will only help - not hurt - DA's chances of making it big). I don't think we've seen yet the full range of DA's talents - maybe he will be a songwriter, too. One other thing in DC's favor is that even though his image is that of "rocker," I think he can also sing pop radio material - he was great last night with the final song he did which will undoubtably be maybe his first single? - and I got the impression that he enjoyed singing it - it wasn't like someone was holding a gun to his head to make him sing something against his grain. I also got the sense last night that all of the other contestests were sincerely happy to see DC win - just further confirmation that he was deserving. It was a great finale with two huge talents - we couldn't ask for anything better.

I love both finalists because of their great talents and performance. My heart was thorned between the two because of the truth that I can't ignore from the dictates of my conscience. Though it is our pride as Missourians to win David Ccok, but I was not excited about the result, because I believed David Achueleta proved its worth and what it takes to be the American Idol of this season, objectively based on the performances criteria. I also believed the judges reactions of the performance is real and reflects the the sincere, authentic, honest and higly reliable evaluation of the entire performance, it is job well done and dependable for the people and the music industry. Though noted Simon's usual commentary habit of performers, a little offensive to many. I would expect for Simon in the near future to be more sensible and compassionate to the plight of performers doing great sacrifices.

What I suspected to happen seemed confirmed, the allegedly biased and influence of the producers' choice on material aspect of the recent scandal, which is not suppose to prevail.

D.C. is most definitely the best choice! While I enjoyed D.A.'s performances, they were often pitchy (what do you expect form a 17 year old?) and I think he just needs some time to mature and develop the stronger, deeper tones in his voice. I beleive that David Archuleta was (is) the better singer this season. I have been involed in music over the past 30 plus years and must say that David Archuleta is a prodigy that will have a lasting impact on the industry for years to come. David Cook is a good singer as well however, his format can be anticipated. He brings nothing new to the industry. I trully beleive that the producers see him as an easier managemant opportunity than David Archuleta. If the true nature of this program is to find the best singer than this season was not served well. American idol should use a format in which industry professionals input is weighted in the final decison. The genral public will not always make the best judgement.
This season has really shaken my faith in this program. I probably will not give any more of my attention to American Idol.

A. Archuleta is a better performer: False. Cook has stage presence over Archuleta. Also, he connects better with the whole audience. Archuleta will most definitely get better at it. Cook is already there.

B. Second place always does better: False. Statistically, first place always does better. Clay Aiken is the exception to that rule. Bo Bice is not even remotely doing better than Carrie Underwood.

C. Archuleta is the better singer: Debatable. Ballads, yeah, that's probably true. Cook did pretty well on those too though. Cook delivered solid performances every week. Archuleta did not. Neither were ever in the bottom two though, so they were definitely the two best vocalists on the show hands down.

Taking it all into consideration, will they both have a good career, more than likely. Archuleta will mature and put out some solid adult contemporary music, probably Josh Grobin-like. Cook will ride the wave and put out some solid rock/top 40 albums. Will either be Carrie Underwood level? Don't know, but it would be nice to see someone else do as well as her after this show.

In my opinion, David A is one of the very rare on AI that actually sings from his heart. It's what he was born to do. You can see it in his eyes that nothing makes him happier.

I am appalled that he didn't win. He wanted this so much more than David Cook. It just seems so unfair. David C had no intention of auditioning in the first place, while young David has claimed AI was the reason he started to sing way back in Season 1 when he was just 11.

The only good outcome of this is that David A is not stuck with a crappy AI contract, (aka prison sentence) and will be free to move about and be marketed properly.

This will definetly be a case of the runner-up overshadowing the winner. I hope you enjoyed your night DC, because DA will be the one smiling in the end.

This year I have watched every episode but only voted when I though Jason's crazy support group was going to vote of Sayesha. I enjoyed both Davids, almost every night and while I enjoyed David Archuleta's performance Tueday, I think it had more to do with his song choises than raw talent. David Cook has alway amazed me at how he can take a song that you would not think he could sing and change it just enough to fit his voice and style perfectly. I think this will benefit him as he transitions from a good cover artist to an original artis, which seems to have been the down fall of many of the past Idol winners. Of course song choise plays no small part in this transition and I'm not sure who's to blame. Bo Bice fans were adament that Idol forced unmarketable songs on him, he went his own way and does not seem to have fared much better, other than for a small market of classic rock fans. I hope David Cook doesn't get too hung up on obscure songs that might carry him down the same path. Some artist don't like songs they feel are too commercial, but there is a reason they are commercial. Usually it's because they are really really good. Songs are a lot like movies. some you wished you never heard, some you are glad you heard once and that's enough and some you sing along with over and over and over. those are the songs you want to record if you are lucky enough to find them.

Consider the title of the show, "American Idol". While Archuleta is an amazing singer, his ballad style does not lean towards being an "Idol". I am a Cook fan, unabashedly. I think DA has a beautiful voice, but as many before have said, he has NO stage presence. You need both of those things to be a performer.

I am sure he will do well, but I see him doing well in the same vein that Clay Aiken has done well. Neither is main stream. They both have their following. Clay is out there making music, selling out stadiums, but you rarely ever hear him on the radio. I see the same fate for DA. Great voice, very talented, but a limited following. I sincerely doubt that you will be hearing his music on mainstream radio. If this were the 70's, maybe. But let's face it, folks, it isn't!

David Cook, on the other, hand appeals to a wider venue. The show is called American Idol, not Great Singer! I believe that means you have to have the ENTIRE package. And not winning, doesn't mean you can't have a career.

Reuben Studdard beat Clay Aiken and who is more successful. Definitely Clay Aiken. And unfortunately for DA, shy will not get you far in the music industry. I am sure that is why Jeff Archuleta is pushing so hard. Nothing would have happened with his singing voice if left to his own accord.

The show is American Idol. The best singer is supposed to win. A voice like David Archuleta's doesn't turn up often. Maybe Cook could move more records, but in a contest that's purely about vocals, Archuleta should have been the winner hands down.

Listen to David Cook's performances with your eyes closed. He could be Chris Daughtry. He could be Nickelback. He could be Hinder. He could be the singer for every other angsty faux-rock band out there right now. Singers like him turn up all the time.

America got it wrong this year. Hopefully Idol will force Cook to sing more songs about finding rainbows in the sky a la "Time of My Life".

After a season of Idol when fairness was constantly questioned, I only expected it to end like this. Simon's wink to Cook seals the fact in my mind that the judges knew how to work home voters to insure their resident "rocker" would win. People will forget David Cook as soon as Nickelback puts out another album. They're all the same. Archuleta's voice can't be matched. Wrong David won.

Hi there America there is a massive following of IDOLS here in S.A and we watched yours live!Amazing season this year as there was tremendous energy amongst all 12,we felt the guys this year were awesome-vocals were brilliant apart from a couple of pith problems here and there.(I soundlike Randy now).
Regarding the finals I thought David A was brilliant (vocals)but David C has phenomenal stage presence,maybe a bit worrying was the face saving apology by Simon directly before the results were read by Ryan(collaboration?)and also I can not for a second believe that David C got 12 million more votes than David A????NO WAY!!!as the whole way through everyone here in S.A,in the States ,the judges,the Pros,the crowd and even Davis C looked almost bashfull when the results were mentiones!Any way guys conspiracy or not well done it was a grat season.THANKYOU

I was surprised, but happy to hear David Cook announced as winner of this year's American Idol. I hate predictable endings, such as what could have been this year's, had the viewing audience voted along with the judges. Yes, DA has a beautiful,"ballady" voice, but DC is the most original and creative singer and musician, who could easily be marketed. Glad he stuck to his guns about his song choice. Don't the judges get it yet: when you talk negatively about a contestant, or overly criticize them, that they will in turn receive the "pity vote" from the viewing audience?

I have watched AI over the years and usually stop watching once my favorite gets voted off or someone stays on that shouldn't (Sanjaya). This is the first time I have watched from beginning to end. Finally a singer/musician with the integrity to stick with his style of music. I also feel the most successful long term singers are also songwriters and DC is also a songwriter. DC had me at "Hello". I truly appreciate DA (he has an amazing voice), but he needs more time to mature and find HIS niche not daddy's. Ok, all....here's something to think about. Ratings for AI were down this season - at the end of the day, not as many folks watched this time around as in other years. But voting this year surpassed other years by, I believe, several tens of millions??? Doesn't anyone think that something doesn't sound right about all of this? I suspect computer dialing programs were implemented for voting purposes and I really feel someone should look in to this. How about this for next year - one vote per telephone number, and that's it. No internet voting - too uncontrollable. David A really should have won this whole thing - rewatch Tuesday night's show if you have any doubts. David A put everything into his performances that night. David C was lackluster and just plain dull - really nothing even remotely interesting. I still have goosebumps from David A's performances that night. David C is going to end up like Taylor Hicks, unfortunately.....

I was a fan of AI when it first came, after about the second season it just got old and boring. I just so happen to catch the hollywood auditions when David Archuleta sang Heaven, I was hooked. He is the only reason I watched AI @ all. It was like I was on crack. I had to hear him sing every week. I was shocked when David Cook won. Don't get me wrong I think he's got a great voice, but he sounds like a million other rockers out there. Personally I think Chris Daughtry is better. I agree that Cook should have won but I'm am disgusted at some of the negative comments regarding Archuleta. Talent wise - Archuleta truly is incredible - period. Any one who disputes that, probably doesn't have too much of a musical ear or knowledge. Archuleta showed creativity and has a brilliant voice and shows great depth with his choice and reditions of music. He simply has less experience than Cook and has a completely different style of music. Cook is also both brilliant. It also boils down to your music preference. Cook has that Bon Jovi appeal, Archuleta has the Michael Buble appeal.Both brilliant - enjoy them both tremendously. They simply have different music styles,one person sings ballads while the other rocks.....this doesn't cause me to bash them as artists and they wouldn't to each other. So please fans, take it easy! Stating that they one or the other has no talent is a gross inaccuracy! I'm looking forward to seeing both of grow as artists - they truly are both brilliantly talented and both seem pretty decent human beings.

Personally, I think that America got it wrong. Archeleta was the better singer, hands down. Plus, David Cook, in putting out an album while he was on the show, broke the rules, and should have been kicked out. He comes across as really arrogant. Why all the negativity? Though AI is all about finding a great singer, it also looks for someone who has stage presence and who is earnest and confident about who he is. I for one am absolutely thrilled David C won. When they got to the top 12 I hoped every week he'd make it to the finale. David A is a beautiful singer but how do you market him? He's cute and he's a great singer. But the market right now is saturated with teens who are cute and can sing, i.e., Molly Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, Maroon 5. I think his career will probably cross over into Christian music - which would be wonderful. David C has the whole package - he sings great, he plays instruments, he's VERY sexy, he's got fantastic stage presence and he stays true to what he wants to perform. A love song would be totally wrong for him. Those who step outside the box even in the face of adversity will have a success story. I for one can't wait until his CD comes out. I bought Daughtrey's CD and think it's awesome. I'm sure David C's will be just as great. For everyone who wants to criticize, millions of people picked HIM as the winner not David A. Somebody said that here that producers probably want Cook to win--- That's funny. No offense, but they dont call Archuleta as PIMPchuleta for nothing....right from the start--they were like setting up Archuleta for the win....but then Big David Cook got in the way by delivering awesome memorable performances and even his itunes sold more during the AI contest. maybe the producers did not post that on the Itunes Chart---but you will be able to tell when buying itunes (check out rickey.org for the charts)

If you are talking about marketable---David A is actually like a blank slate...he is a good singer but not much distinctive style---it was easier to market him as oppose to Cook who had solid ideals and flavor.

So Archuleta fans, please stop saying Cook was rigged to win. That's ridiculous! Even VOTEFORTHEWORST congratulated him for being the only one who wasnt PLANTED on the show...

COOK deserved to win, fair and square.. He worked week after week to produce memorable performances as oppose to just singing in a pageant show-slash-competition....

Let's put it this way - I have 17 David Cook songs on CD in my car and I listen to them every day. His range is phenomenal - and I'm not just talking about octaves. He can sing beautiful melodic songs, hard rock songs, "pop" songs - everything. He's amazing.
