I too have very fond chidhood memories of Harvey Korman. I can still see and hear my parents laughing at Korman, until they had tears in their eyes!! My mother often on the floor! They loved the show, but he stood out as a favorite.

You put it so well, saying that group lived to laugh and wanted everyone to join in. And they were adults, and acted as such. An era gone forever, I'm afraid.

Mr Korman was one of the most hilarious people I ever saw. He should have won an Oscar for his portrayal of Hedley Lamar in Blazing Saddles. I knew Harvey before he became famous. He was a cousin to a dear friend of mine, Jane Darvin. When he came to Los Angeles, I would frequently meet him at a party in the Hollywood Hills overlooking Sunset Boulevard. He made the entire crowd laugh with gusto.
He loved to perform directly towards me since my response was the loudest. Very shortly thereafter he was performing on the Danny Kaye show. I still saw him at his home in the Hills several times where he served lox and bagel. He was a genuine comedian who could also play Shakespeare. Bonita Stone Levine

One of Harvey's most endearing qualities was the fact that he wasn't afraid to just give in to something funny, and laugh until he cried. Much like Red Skelton would laugh at himself or at someone else's zaniness.

Oh, to have been a fly on the wall watching the cast and crew of the Carol Burnett show rehearsing, and then taping, their shows! I have so many fond memories of Mr. Korman, and the rest of the cast, leaving me in stitches. I have to say my favorite was when Mr. Conway talked about the siamese elephants, who were joined at the trunk, and then made that sound. I can't even think of that show without starting to smile. If I think too long, I will dredge up all those impossible skits where the outrageous antics occured - and soon be laughing and shaking my head.
Watching the whole cast trying to stay in character during Tim's extemporaneous shenanigans was what gave it the unpredictable shade. Harvey played the straight man and usually the first affected. Just watching him struggle made us laugh all the more.
Even my grandchildren laugh at those on YouTube now - timeless.

I have so many memories of Korman and Conway just breaking each other up. I mostly remember a skit where Conway as the old man simply uttered in his slow, doddering voice: "a Koala bear" in response to Korman's character and Korman just absolutely lost it.

The Carol Burnett show was one of only a few shows that I was allowed to stay up for when I was a child. I can vividly remember my parents laughing hyterically during the Harvey Korman and Tim Conway skits. Those moments are very precious to me and always will be.

Perhaps my favorite times watching Harvey Korman try not to break up when Tim Conway starting ad-libbing during the taping of the show (the dress rehearsal had been played as written). One of the funniest lines I remember is when Conway was drafted at the last minute to be the chef at one of those Japanese restaurants where the meal is prepared at the grill surrounded by 6 or 8 diners. Korman was the maitre d' and seemed a bit surprised when Conway told him his name--"Ruby Keerah." Wonder what the script originally was!

There were some shows my parents MADE me watch (or just leave the room) as a kid....Hee Haw...Lawrence Welk. With Harvey on the Carol Burnett show, they couldn't have dragged me away from the TV by bribing me with ice cream. The comedy was excellent for adults, but the slapstick was simple enough to make us kids laugh as well! And just think, gang...you NEVER heard a single cuss word! Makes me wish for finer days...sigh. What a slightly less cheery world it is today.

I am saddened greatly with his loss, and can only dream that his portfolio of great acting will provide the springboard for some young actor starting out to help sustain his legacy. What incredibly large clown shoes are left to be filled.

That dynamic between Korman and Conway...oh, my. I remember that they'd have Conway doing his "old man" act with Korman as the straight man and how Conway seemed to try to do whatever it took to unglue Korman. One skit, the Old Man was "Prince Charming" and Korman was "Snow White" or whatever, made up and in this ridiculous dress, and all he had to do was lie there in a glass case. That's all; just lie there. The slow-moving Old Man put his ear to the class case, right over Snow White's face, to see if she were still breathing...and then, with the camera tight on the two of them, you hear Conway go "....zzzzzZZZZZZ..." Seemed like they must have had to wash Korman out of there with a hose when it was all over.

Harvey always played the straight man to Tim Conway's antics in their comedy skits but he almost always failed to keep a straight face while Tim's doing his shtick. And it always made me laugh louder than usual to see Harvey trying very hard to keep it all together and then finally giving in to Tim's silliness. That was classic comedy gold! And Harvey's portrayal of Hedley Lamar in Blazing Saddles should rank as one of the best comic performances on the big screen.
Thank you Harvey for the wonderful memories. I'm sure Heaven has more laughs with you around.

I watched the Carol Burnett show religiously as a kid. Lyle Waggoner was the "handsome one", but I always had a crush on Harvey Korman. I saw him in England in 1980 as a star-struck 10 year old kid. He was on set filming "History of the World Part I". He was strolling through the beautiful gardens in his costume. He was as lovely and as gracious as he could be. Meeting him was one of the highlights of my childhood.

this was the guy who could do EVERYTHING voice wise- A real hero of mine- he was a brilliant comic.I worked in EMS for over 20 yrs and w/o comedy or funny or laughing- there was just too much sadness.His roles enabled me to be funny-(at certain times) not always- and it helped to break tensions and keep me from crying. My accents are somewhat modeled from his genius. Anything the guy did WAS brilliant-truly- we should erect statues of this guy all over the world-or wherever he liked to be- And his willingness to keep going- per his daughter- what a fighter- I think if we all emulated this man- somehow- anyway- wed all be better off.
But -i must say the thing i really recall about him- prob cuz my late sis and I just loved this character when we were <10yrs was the GREAT Kazoo -off of the Flintstones-(DumDum)!!!- Why i recall that memory of that voice for that cartoon- and his sound effect voice overs- JUst an amzing talent that will be missed- but we have his stuff recorded-so NEVER forgotten- We LOVE YOU HARVEY-!!!!!!!!!!

I loved Harvey Korman!! The Carol Burnett Show was a big hit for me as a kid. I loved watching Harvey Korman in whatever role he played. He was a brilliant comedian. Even when Tim Conway would get him to crack-up, it was so funny. I really miss television where you could sit down with the entire family and watch it together, without wondering if it would turn into vulgar bathroom humor. There were so many great sketches Harvey did on the Carol Burnett show, that it would be impossible to name my favorite. He was brilliant. And not since "Uncle Milte" could a man in drag make me laugh like Harvey did. You will be greatly missed my friend.

Just hearing Harvey Korman's name brings a smile to my face. I was deeply saddened to hear he was gone. My classic memory from the Carol Burnett show - Tim Conway had just waxed a door knob and now the knob was too slippery to turn. Harvey put Tim on knob (enlarged for him to sit) and opened the door by turning Tim like the wheel of a ship.

I frequently babysat on Saturday nights, which had one of the best comedy lineups of all time - Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, and of course, to cap it all off, Carol Burnett. I would pray and pray for the parents to not come home until after Carol had tugged on her ear. The highlight of the show was always watching Harvey and Tim try to crack each other up, and I have always dreamed of having the power to make people laugh like that. As George Carlin said, "suppressed laughter is the best kind", and Korman and Conway did it in spades. So sad that he's gone, but ecstatic that I got to witness his brilliance.

Mr. HARVEY kORMAN was one of the first actors I really knew. My father and I would watch T>V> together as I was growing up and Carol Burnett's show was one of his fav's. I lost my DAD last year Sept. and I really miss those times. I know that it seems to alot of people to be so long ago yet, when you spent time with your family and Mr. Korman was part of our family for so many years that I feel the lose.

I just loved watching Harvey Korman perform. To me he was comedy heaven. So funny, so talented, so gifted; the way he did a line, the faces he made, and his unique body language - these are what made the skits and movies he performed in so unique and memorable. He could recite the alphabet and in his uniquely funny way of delivering, evne that would be funny an dmake me laugh! Everything he did made me laugh; one of the funniest, most talented, and under-rated performers I've ever seen. Everything he did was just terrific; nobody like him! The skits he did on the Burnett shows and his performance in Blazing Saddles, among other triumphs, are, were and always will be comedy magic and comedy history! A true original. He and his incredible gift made the world a better, funnier place; and it will be a sadder world without him. I could easily watch him in Blazing Saddles and the Burnett show repeats forever and still laugh just as hard each time. I will miss him a lot.

Harvey Korman was my cousin and we'll all miss him so very much. He was not only a great comedian and actor, he was a great father and gave to many charities in his life. I was sad to hear the news of Mr.Korman's death. I remember all the funny skits he did on the Carol Burnett Show, especially the ones when he could not stop laughing(unscripted, of course). My favorite one is that of him(playing a rich old man)and Tim Conway(plaing an old man fireman). He is suppose to be unconcious and Tim Conway's character has to revive him. These gifted performers always brought a bright spot to your life, no matter what else was happening. I, too, loved the dentist skit, but I will always love best the parody of "Gone With the Wind". To see Carol come sweeping down those stairs in her "drapery dress", and to see Harvey (and every one else) shaking with barely suppressed laughter, was TV at its very best. YOU nailed it...the Carol Burnett show was such an incredible ensemble...A kid growing up in the ghetto, I was rolling everytime. My friends thought I was nuts when I dropped the basketball to head home to catch the show with my mom. But hey, it was marvelous. It was Dale's post above that finally made me write. While I didn't quite grow up in the ghetto (working class inner suburb was more like it), my dad bailed early, and my mom had to work to make a living. But it was a sacrosanct tradition with Mom, my brother and me to watch Carol Burnett every week. Mom would make dinner and we'd have a picnic on a blanket in the living room.

My favorite Korman memory was a skit where Conway (as the little old man) played a mugging victim, on a bed in a hospital. Korman, as a police detective, was interviewing him. Korman started out standing by Conway's bedside, but about halfway through the sketch sat on the side of the bed, the better to hear the old man. Korman is above Conway, leaning over, just above Conway's face --
Korman: "Tell me what you remember."
Conway: "Well, he came up to me. He had a double-barreled shotgun...Oh! [reacting in fear].
Korman (sympathetic, concerned): "What's the matter?!"
Conway (fearful, points at Korman's nose): "Is it loaded?"
Korman: (collapses in hysterical laughter, can't finish sketch).

I was fortunate enough, in about 1999, to attend the Korman/Conway touring show with my brother and late Mom, at which we relived some of the happiest times of our youth. Thanks, Harvey.
