Even if she walked into it, with her comments about only wanting Simon's comments. The fact they dismissed her, only commented on her looks. Nothing constructive. They pushed the boundaries of decency. Now the comments about Sandaya was warranted, because nothing they say honestly will get the kid out. So might as well stay silent, or just keep quiet. But what they did with Haley was wrong! Public voting begins with knocking the bottom two off until you reach 12. That means Sanjaya has been voted for for a lot longer than you think. I still can't believe the judges couldn't find three singers who were better than Sanjaya, Antonella Barba, and that god-awful Sundance Head from Hollywood week. Ultimately, the show suffers for their bad judgement.

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

Regarding the Cooper piece, the judgment of Randy, Simon, and Paula put the contenders through to the top 24, not top 12. The top 12 were determined by America's phone calls. So, we can only blame the judges for giving America the opportunity to dial in for Sanjaya. The fact he's still here is America's fault.

Is he having a power kick? Maybe the people in Sanjaya's town, and friends and others want the kid to succeed. Great!! But people need to understand that even if they like someone that does not mean they should win. It just means he has seen he is supported he should feel great about that. I say if he has the dignity and respect for his fellow conestants, he should back out and say "Thanks for the support, but I am not the best and I do not want to upset any one else's chance to succeed." That way the show still has validity, we will see if Stern is really after the power to "Destroy" a show, and Sanjay looks like the hero.

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

If you don't get it by now, here's the deal: Sanjaya goes through to the final 5 mainly through the votes of the teeny boopers. They've succeeded and the show isn't even over. NONE of the winners from any of the previous seasons are on everyone's mind like Sanjaya is. He's already a star. It doesn't matter if he should be, he is. This season is a success, they've created a star. And let's face it, the current music scene is proof you don't have to be Bocelli to be a hit. I am totally baffled as to how he remains on the show. One thing I do have to give him credit for is his gimmicks. He does have a new one every week. He is like a bad commercial. Lots of people can pull off a few seconds of singing well. It's not until we get to the real performances that we find out who's really got it and who doesn't. Its fun to see him appear week after week, and that's what keeps the ratings and drama of American Idol going. The judges/creators know that he is a good way to attract viewers, b/c they tune in each week to see if he will stay or if he will go, and how badly he will sing this week or how weird his hair is gonna look. He is obviously popular enough to get peoples attention...let him enjoy it :)

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

This competition is supposed to be something serious. I did not watch AI until hearing about Sanjaya, and last week, I watched for the first time.

I admit that I am not a music fan, or even a reality TV fan, but I don't see anything wrong with voting for Sanjaya. He seems like a nice kid, and is really courageous for going on TV even though I am sure he knows he is not a good singer.

Remember his comment from last night's show - he actually thinks he can sing. If he's not voted off soon - I will also boycott watching the show. Howard Stern and votefortheworst.com should be ashamed of how they are trying to force ugliness into the show simply to get themselves noticed and make money. This isn't funny or amusing and it shows that they lack integrity for trying to bring this show down when it has so many fans that tune in each year. Thus far Sanjaya is the most popular with a huge young girl fan base. At this point though, I don't believe that it matters. Melinda Doolittle is by far the best singer, perhaps better than most of the previous winners. I believe though that with someone of her calibur, she might be better off if she doesn't win, this way she can get a contract the day she is voted off and not have to deal with being under contract to Simon for the next year. I believe the show Has lost the integrity it once had. I don't blame the judges in full they chose those with potential, and as humans they make mistakes. This year it seems as though it's not about the best singer, I don't know why but it seams more about some trying to destroy something they personally don't like. Instead of turning the channel some have taken it upon themselves to try and ruin others enjoyment. Trying to force others to conform to what they think is good to watch / read / listen to / to think or act, to be mindless puppets.
I thought that "BOOK BURNING " was a thing of the past. This years show appears to have been vandalised, some seem to have taken enjoyment out of marring others enjoyment.
Then again ...the publicity this Controversy has generated has probably raised the shows "ratings" could this all be a well orchestrated event planned by the show it's self? Dislike his singing is one thing and hating is another. It is a borderline you can't cross. Most people visiting the websites are white people. If the sanjaya kid would have been a 100% white instead of semi white , people would have made him super hero. He is after all semi brown boy and look of indian kid. It is alien to many people who is watching the show. Hate is coming from people who think american idol is about blacks and whites. People normally laugh at bad singers if they are bad. Only in this occasion white people universally (who runs the media) started to create this extreme negativity about this kid. It is kind of gang culture. And now people want to change the voting system. They want to move the goal post because they do not like a semi brown boy might win this white/black american idol contest.
AI voting is about create positive energy. More votes means people worship someone so much that they will do anything for them. Those are the people who will buy idol cd. For me sanjaya malakar is not bad as everyone claims him to be or he is good. He is just 17 year old kid whose voice is in the process of changing. The kid is trying hard with every chance he get. America should appreciate the kids guts intstead of hating him. Myonly problem with the kid is that he is gayish.

And finally howard stern is another vulture who wants to scavange. He has no influence but he got aperfect target in sanjaya in that what he is doing is racism. Sanjaya was top 4 vote getter before VFTW even start to support him. It is covinient for VFTW to support people who have votes already so they can say they are the one influencing the show. Pathetic low level people. I like howard stern atrocious shows but not in this issue. There can only be one winner and it won't be Sanjaya!

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

The judges and producers do the top 24 for entertainment value and marketability not just vocal ability.

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

Beverly Gobeli, you've said it best! Is he the best singer, no. Is he a better performer than everyone else on that show, in my opinion yes he is. Be it the crazy hair styles he comes up with every week, or his stage presence there’s something about Sanjaya that both my wife and I really like. My wife and I are part of the vote for the worst crowd but that doesn’t mean we vote for Sanjaya just to try and ruin American Idol (there’s nothing to ruin, the show makes a mockery out of musical talent). We vote for Sanjaya over and over because he’s entertaining to watch, not like the other contestants on the show who generally appear boring and drab.

Being a musical entertainer myself for over 20 years I know what works well and what people like. The song selections this year almost each week have been weak and soft, not to mention very dull. How many times do we have to watch these semi-talented people sing another “safe” ballad for the crowd? At least when Sanjaya sings these terrible songs, he gives us something to look at, and talk about. You may hate him but like it or not he is creating his own buzz with his wardrobe and hair choices as well as an “I don’t give a crap attitude” that he’s seemed to have adopted over the last few weeks. He’s fired back at Simon which was great, twice now actually. No other contestant this season has rocked a performance like Sanjaya did with the Kinks “You Really Got Me”. This performance was great not only because of Sanjaya’s choice of attire but because he did something no one else this season has done nor do I believe they can do, throw caution to the wind, put some attitude into a song that isn’t meant for an elevator ride and just go for it.

Sanjay’s vocals aren’t the best on American Idol this season by any means but he can sing. He’s very young and inexperienced at this point. He’s soft spoken and that translates over to his vocal style. True he is outclassed by some of the other singers in this popularity/voting contest but he far out does the competition each week because he is a performer and the attitude he’s been carrying recently gives the kid an edge over everyone else.

Let me put it this way to make it easier to understand. If I was going to pay to go see one of this years American Idol hopefuls play a live show somewhere who would I choose to spend my hard earned cash on? Blake? No way….while he does have a decent voice he’s far too trendy and banks on that each week. I don’t even know his last name now and I watch the show each week. Will I or anyone else for that matter remember his first name in say 10 years…Probably not. How about Lakisha or Melinda? I don’t remember Lakisha’s last name and well Mellinda’s I do only because it’s not a very common last name. Both of these women are good vocalists…….good vocalist’s not good entertainers. Sure I could shell out some cash to watch a live performance by either one of these people but it’d be a night full of ballads, down tempo songs that would ultimately put me to sleep. As I stated before I’m a big fan and watch each week because the show is very entertaining solely to see what the judges will say and to see what Sanjaya is going to do and how he’s going to sound, not for anyone else. This is where my money would go. A live performance by Sanjaya obviously wouldn’t be a strong vocal performance but I’d be willing to bet there’d be some crazy cool costumes, lighting and smoke effects, and a lot more to keep you entertained and interested.

See this is my point. Sanjaya isn’t a great vocalist but neither are people like Blake, Lakeshia, or even Melinda. Sure they’re good, but they certainly are great or extraordinary by any stretch of the imagination. What Sanjaya is however is a good fun entertainer and performer who goes all out each week to get votes and be it because he’s not the most vocally talented contestant or be it because people really like him he’s getting those votes.

Before we became supporters of Vote For The Worst my wife and I watched the show each week as we do now. To laugh at all the contestants, there’s half assed “safe” emotionless performances and talk about how no one will know who any of these people are in say 10 years time…..20 years for sure. Yes, we love reality television and that’s what this is…..it is not by any means a show that has every showcased real talent. American Idol looks for and promotes an image and a specific style that caters mainly to a teenage, female listening audience. This season is no different and that’s another reason I love Sanjaya. He is everything American Idol stands against. An awkward performer, who doesn’t fit the mold, has ok to decent vocal ability, and who does crazy things each week. Look at all the attention he’s garnished by doing what he does! Sure Howard Stern and votefortheworst.com help Sanjaya survive but you’ve got to give the kid some credit for doing what he does because it is bringing in votes each week. Keep it up Sanjaya, you’re great because it appears that you don’t give a crap what the people at American Idol think, what anyone thinks and your performance each week is great. It takes more than musical/vocal ability to make it and stay popular in today’s music world……..go Sanjaya!

Summing it up, the majority of people in this world still know who the Beatles , the Rolling Stones, and Ozzy Osbourne are. No one in any of these groups/acts where great, fantastic vocalists (yes the Beatles sang well) but they all were talented because they write or wrote their own music, played their own musical instruments and just like Sanjaya created buzz around themselves by using controversy as a tool. Sure these groups are not in the spotlight of popularity anymore but they still sell records and in some cases sell out live shows. No one on American Idol could do this 10, 20, or even 30 years down the line. Not going to happen but I really believe that Sanjaya could follow suit if he sticks to his guns and keeps on going. Using one of my favorite bands, Kiss as an example, I’d like to point out that they are neither vocally or with their instruments, the most talented entertainers out there but 35 years later, they still sell records and still have people paying to see live shows. Why, because they are fun to watch and to listen to…..all attitude and show. Yes it is important to play your instrument or use your voice well but it’s even more important to put on a good show!

It is sooo unfortunate that people have been voted off before him, like Stephanie & Chris Sligh, not to say they are the best but come on, they were WAY better than him. The kid really gets on my nerves. American Idol needs to take over and do something about America being able to vote, maybe the judges should do the voting off till it gets down to the last 2 or 3and then we vote because this is nothing but a joke now. Although it seems to have been exaggerated this year by the "vote for the worst" group and Howard Stern's antics, the show still captures a world wide audience and entertains it every week. It's fun to read everyone's comments as they express their outrage and support. So many people here not watching the show but taking the time to post comments. People want to be entertained and Sanjaya is entertaining. On the other hand I look forward to Blake, Jordin, Haley, and, yes, Sanjaya. Now one thing is for sure -- even if Sanjaya wins Idol I predict Blake, Melinda, LaKisha, and maybe one or two of the others will get contracts and the others will get more airplay and more sales than Sanjaya even if he wins -- kind of like the Rueben / Clay thing -- but Sanjaya is here to stay even if it's only as a replacement for the William Hung sideshow.

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

Judges being negative is one thing. I have heard about it from others ever since the first season, but was never inspired to even see what it was about. I thought it was just like the old show, Ted Mack's amateur hour or The Gong Show. (Not too far from that premise). Finally I decided to watch it this season. I am sure I will not devote myself to this show for a whole season next year. Once you watch it from the beginning of a season, then you are hooked to see what happens. I honestly think its very unbalanced with the range of talent displayed among the contestants. Melinda is just right out there on top of everyone with every performance. She is a downright pro and miles ahead of everyone else and they don't have a chance to catch up. Even Blake, as good as I think he is, cannot top Melinda. And then you have the bottom feeders like Sanjaya, who resorts to the ridiculous to get attention and votes, and Hayley, showing bare legs to get attention and votes. And even if Sanjaya makes it; Simon is not going anywhere unless the show is cancelled. He makes too much money to give that up. Anybody who thinks he gives a rat's behind who actually wins American Idol is kidding themselves. It's all about the money. To comment on the mention in a previous post about Lakisha's cleveage: much rather see her cleveage than her legs as she revealed in the one performance when she wore a mini. Who cares who wins anyway? Good for Sanjaya for sticking it out this long. I think it would be funny to see him win just to rile up all you people getting high blood pressure over the show. But he’s going to get voted out sooner or later, so just chill out and wait for him to get voted off. And if they really want to fix American Idol, maybe they shouldn’t let people vote as many times as they want just so they can say “oh, we got 50million votes today! What a popular show!” or when Taylor Hicks got voted the next American Idol they said to him “you got more votes than any president ever did!” but in reality he only got a couple million votes from people voting 50 times each. So, Go Sanjay! Actually I hope Blake wins because he is the most interesting thing that has happened to this show.

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

I believe that Sanjaya should drop out of the competition. As we have seen in the past many finalists have received record deals and success. What is going to happen to Sanjaya? If he continues to go on because of people voting to mess up Idol, all you have done was to destroy someones life and dreams. He may not be good enough now but he is young and can try again. American Idol is only a show. Sanjaya's pretty brave to get on stage and then take all the insults. It can't be fun to be so hated by so many. It only proves that not only are kids bullying kids, but so are adults. Shame on us. We are in a time when we should know better. Haven't we learned anything? At least the one thing we have learned is that even if you are voted off early doesn't mean great things can't happen for you...look at Jennifer Hudson. So don't fret...it's only a show. During those boring months of comic auditions, they emphasize the jokes and recruit them for ratings, pass them onto Hollywood thinking more people will watch. The show has become a joke and I don't think it will last more than one more season if things continue as they are . . . untalented contestants (for the most part) and only one judge who truly knows what he's talking about and makes any sense (Simon). I really enjoyed AI 1&2, but it began to make a fast slide down hill for me from 3. I also believe that all the bad mouthing of the contestants (past and present), the insulting comments, and actually very hurtful comments made in this post because of one guy who clearly does not have any talent is actually very sad, and it portrays us in a very dark and ugly light. We have the ability to vote this young man off or we could sit around and gripe about his performance or his appearance. If you feel someone is voting 50 times to keep him, vote 50 times to send him home. If you don't like what's going on, don't watch it. I personally stopped watching after the 3rd week. Yes, I voted for Sanjaya for my 13-year-old as she actually adored him (hint..hint..possible reason for staying power), but even she has now grown tired of him, yes the teen-boppers are getting tired of him as well -- because she has seen past his "cute smile" and wants to see if he can really sing. She generally will let me know who is doing what as I am busy with another show or whatever. But people, listen up, let's stop the bashing and the name calling of people. Think of how you would feel if you read one of these posts about yourself. There is no REASON to be mean. That includes the remarks about Clay, Rueben, Fantasia, Taylor, Lakisha and even Sanjaya. I'm not saying handle them with kid gloves, but let's show some respect here, some love for your fellow man. Let's act like the human beings we are and not the animals we can be or in some cases have become. I say if he wins, it was meant to be, if he doesn't it too was meant to be. I personally wish them all the best no matter what their talents and/or dreams may be.

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

I have been a die hard Idol fan since season one. I don't think he is the best singer but it is entertaining to watch him each week and look forward to his performance. Right from the first vote off I thought he would go but he didn't. At times I feel sorry for him, the judges sent him on to Hollywood but ever since his audition have not had one nice word to say to him. It must be hard each week to be put down and I think part of the reason he stays each week is because people don't like hearing a 17 year old kid being put down all the time. I don't believe he will win, Belinda should, but I enjoy watching him, he is entertaining, where the others just stand up there and sing without the hype.

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

I can't believe not one of you mentioned the corporate interests behind the phenomenon that is Idol. The bad singers like Malakar and Barba are there for entertainment value, ratings, and profits. Of course they can't sing, that's the gimmick. The judges are part of the Idol machine that lines their pockets every year, but they can't be the sole deciding force behind who gets into the top spots. The producers have successfully marketed Idol over the years to dupe us all into becoming invested in the show. It may have started out as a singing competition, but it is now a reality show, complete with "characters" and scripted drama. And because so many people actually PAY to vote for this sham, it will continue to reign.

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

Sanjaya is ruining the show. And has anyone noticed Jordin - that girl can sing, haven't seen much dancing though, and I believe with a little more encouragement she could be a top performer. But American Idol is like a cancer on American Society. Most Americans are more enthusiastic about this show than they are about their own government. If you have a passionate love for this show, you have been put to sleep and you have truly turned off your mind.

This show is mindless entertainment. Howard Stern (not usually a fan) is doing a great thing by attempting to destroy this show. A person that votes weekly for pop entertainers but can't drag his/her ass to the polls once every 2 years is undeserving of the freedoms granted by this country.

This show is about singing talent no more no less, and unless you happen to be tone deaf you would understand that regardless of this kids heritage or looks he can't sing.
Think about it, if you were in a contest regardless of what it is and there is somebody who is very popular but doesn't have the abilites that you have but still wins time after time how would you feel.
To get up on a stage and sing your heart out and the only comment you get is you have good looking legs is an insult and it showed Haley had a lot of class not to slap Simon and the rest of the judges in their oversized ego faces. They deserve what is happening to this show.
Simon has been dogging Haley thru out this entire season and she has held her head high because she can sing and if everybody would listen and quit listening to that pompus ass they would hear her.
The entire country is focused on a no talent kid because they've become cattle, just one of the herd with no mind of their own following the herd day after day and the lead bull is an idiot Howard Stern.
He's made a nice young man into a self centered, egotistical moron who has no respect for anybody anymore. When he first came on the show he was polite and well mannered, now he's cockey and disrespectful for anybody who doesn't praise him and the idiots out there are feeding his oversized ego.
Ok so he wins the whole thing, what happens to his ego when nobody will touch him because the majority of Americans hate this kid for what he's done to the show, what happens to him then? The only thing he's good for is making a bufoon out of himself and theres not much call for that except on Howard Sterns talk show and you have to have an IQ of 2 to listen to that.
I really feel sorry for this kid, he's being used in so many ways and he doesn't even see it.

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

Look hard at this show.. This is American 'Idol'. An idol is someone who is a trend setter/ someone others will like to watch/hear/ follow. What is it that makes us read stuff on Paris Hilton? Anna Nicole Smith? What are they good at? What talent do they have? What have they achieved? But they were/are powerful brands. Crowd pullers.
Sanjaya is also a crowd puller. Some love him, some 'hate'him, some cant stand him, but everyone is obsessed with him.
Everyone wants to know whether he made it to the next round or not.. whether today is his last or not.. what the judges will say to him today, what his hair will look like today...
That tells me, he has already become an IDOL.
Come on, how long can teeny bopper girls spend their parents money on votes for this guy otherwise. Dont you think that kind of a fan base is too ephemeral for him to last this long?

So everyone, the sooner we accept the fact that Sanjaya is already an IDOL, the lesser the craze, the sooner he will fade away....
..or forever become a part of the american tabloids.

go Haley

you are definitely among the best and you would have my vote no matter what you wear

judges get over yourselves

by the way - this is best article I have ever read about "Idol" -- dead on

Haley - you are a very good singer and an excellent entertainer/performer and you should win

simon - you are ridiculous - get off her case -- you ass (and Paula you get lamer by the week)

Why? Look at all the free publicity they are getting from him.

Everyone's talking about him and American Idol. I seriously doubt he's going to win though, the producers will step in soon and cut him loose. I say this because no one really knows how the votes are counted. If the producers are willing to stage a tween to sit in the audience to cry, why wouldn't they use Sanjaya as a publicity stunt?

I'll continue to vote for Sanjaya though, just to piss people off and shouldn't that woman who's starving herself until Sanjaya gets voted off suppose to be dead by now?? Now I watch another network because I can't stand to see that Sajaya's smirk and teethy grin especially when he knows he cannot sing and he is the biggest joke since that guy that sang "She bangs"! Ok, he's got his 15 minutes of fame, we have laughed at him enough, get rid of him and get on with it. Because of him a few excellent singers were voted off, that was sad. They in their hearts were really trying for a musical career and had hopes of starting from IDOL, only to be squashed out by this idiot who thinks he can sing. Someone please tell him the trueth. He is joke.
It's time for him to go, or this will be the ruination of American Idol. People in my age bracket enjoyed the show, but not now. Let's move on!! Now I watch Dancing with the Stars and that has been more entertaining. Until someone can get the balls up to get rid of this jerk, I know a lot of folks that will not be following AI until he is gone!!! Now the show is getting to be a big joke!! What I find racist is this belief that all Indians are voting for Sanjaya. Somehow I don't think I'd be the only one finding it racist if someone said all the black people are voting for LaKisha. For the record, I'm Indian, and my favorites are Blake and Jordin.

Also, I always said that the contestants shouldn't complain about harsh criticism because they know what they're getting into, but the media criticism of Sanjaya has taken things to a whole new level. If you want to blame someone for keeping him in, blame the media for being so cruel and making people feel sorry for him. I don't like his singing (though I actually think he's not quite as bad as John Stevens or Kevin Covais), but I have definitely come to admire his guts. We like to believe American Idol is a singing competition, but it isn't. Being a pop star is not about singing - its an important component but just one of many factors. O/w it would be a radio show. The show is about talent not sex appeal. If Sanjaya and Haley stick around for another week while good, talented individuals get voted off this will be my last season to watch idol. Haley's performance was all about sex and the young boys are voting for her based on appearance not on her talent. Sanjaya has been built up on someone else's empire that is making money and laughing all the way to the bank on this poor kid. After tonight I think next year the voting premise will have to change based on one idiots idea of a good time on the radio to pull up ratings. This year I feel Idol has the most talent it's had on one stage in one season and one of the best talent's "Gina" was voted off before the lack of talent singers that are still on the show. What keeps viewers interested? Controversy. If you think it's about talent or anything else, you've be successfully deceived.

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

This just proves that not all publicity is good publicity. This season's controversay/publicity has pretty much ruined this show. At this point it doesn't matter if Sanjaya gets to stay or finally gets the boot he deserves. Unless the producers learn their lesson and limit the number of votes per household, this season may pretty much kill this show's chances of a future.

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

It's so strange to me, seeing how everyone always points to Sanjaya's supposedly "weak" vocals. If you've watched his last couple of performances in which the judges actually commented, you'll notice that they were actually encouraging him to sing "out" more. And this is true of Paula, especially. To them and myself, it seems that his voice really does have a lot of potential.

Then again, after repeated performances, Sanjaya's projection of voice hasn't seen much improvement. Perhaps that's why he fails vocally. His voice, albeit able to carry melody and pitches, is too young - too inexperienced.

Just making some observations here.. it's surprising to me, knowing that there must be thousands of 17 year olds like Sanjaya who have tons of singing experience and training, that didn't tryout or make the top 12. Maybe they didn't have the courage(or committment) to go out for Idol. Perhaps that's what really makes Sanjaya so special, then. Reminiscent of the words of Simon from last night, that makes Sanjaya a brave kid.

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

Go for it Sanjaya !!!! I thought for sure that Sanjaya would be gone the first vote. He is bringing down the quality I expected from the show. He cannot sing, has no power, no stage presence, and if I have to see that huge tongue hanging out of his mouth in another picture I'll scream. This competition is for serious talented singers who's goal is to become a star. It is obvious that Sanjaya is conceited and is enjoying the fact that good singers are being voted off because of him. Its also disappointing that Sanjaya was even allowed into the top 24. What were the judges thinking? All of the thousands of people who auditioned, you can't tell me there wasn't one person who was better than Sanjaya. If he wins I will never again watch American Idol unless they allow the judges to have some vote control. To now encourage Sanjaya as one of the worst singers takes away from the whole realm of the competition. It is true the judges brought the selections to us - but after all the contestants have been presented to America - we can no longer blame them. They presented all of us with a diverse selection. I've never watched the show before this season, but it is interesting to see the banter between simon and ryan, etc...yes, it is all a gimmick and just another way for Hollywood to help us take our minds off ourselves and the world's problems, much like Marilyn Monroe and some of the other less talented performers of the past. Well, thanks for the distraction and apparantly, if we don't vote, it is virtually free to us and makes "them" a whole lot richer. No big deal, unless you are the one with true talent and training who gets passed over. What an awesome opportunity to be made into an American Icon--just see what they've done with the Malakar boy...let him believe he has talent and lots of good ideas and he starts to believe in himself--his performances are actually starting to get better. You can take a group of low-achieving youngsters and put them all in one classroom and tell the teacher they are all gifted and talented, and they will soar. As a former teacher myself, I know this has been done and proven to work. The opposite will also be true--truly intelligent kids will become sad under-achievers if put together in a class with other similar students and a teacher who is told they are of low intelligence...SO WHAT WE GONNA LEARN FROM THIS, FOLKS!? Honesty? I'm afraid not............................it doesn't PAY!! -wjb

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

To Crystal: Sorry, but you're not the only one who noticed that the judges put the singers through. But neither could Taylor Hicks or Katherine Mcphee, and they were last seasons winner and runner up. Does it really matter who wins American Idol? Chris Daughtry was voted off when he should have won; and look where he is now. He has the number one album in the country AND American Idol uses one of his songs as the goodbye song. Where are Hicks and Mcphee? So let Sanjaya win. He will barely be a blip on the radar. The ones that will see all the success are Melinda Doolittle, Lakisha and Blake. They could be voted off today and will be topping the charts tomorrow.

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

I think this season is hysterical. The Indians have a well established networking throughout the US. They are part of the silent majority of Americans, very peaceful people and law abiding citizens. On top of that, most of the Asian Americans vote for Sanjaya for support in the competition. So politicians, don't ignore the peaceful, law abiding and mostly educated Asian Americans. We vote for Sanjaya just to put our place heritage in the map. Maybe when it comes down to 4 contestants, we will try to be objective in our voting. The fact that he can't sing has become irrelevant in the voting. But the producers know that Sanjaya has become a lightening rod for the audience and love it or hate it, most of us are tuning in to see how long it takes until he's gone. First off, he is considerate enough to be quiet when Randy and Paula are giving their opinions, but when it is his turn to give his opinion, if Randy and Paula disagree, they interrupt him and argue with him. It's very annoying. People might not like the comments that Simon gives, but when it comes down to it, he only says what a lot of other people are thinking but dare not say.
When Haley said she valued his opinion, I think she spoke for quite a lot of the performers. Even Gina said one week, that she knows America values Simon's opinion and it matters. But what Randy and Paula did concerning Haley, was rude and Simon was right in telling them so. Simon offered his criticism; when he does, the audience boos him, but when he tried to sort of give Haley some sort of positive input, he gets labeled a dirty old man. Haley does have nice legs and she puts them out there for every one to see week after week, so you really can't help but notice them. Again, Simon was just being honest and saying what most people probably think anyway.
As far as Sanjaya, I don't blame the judges for not commenting because, Simon is right; it doesn't matter what they say. Short of verbally destroying the boy on live television [which I don't think even Simon is mean enough to do], it seems their hands are tied, so to speak. As far as the judges putting them all there? They narrowed the talent down to 24 contestants and they felt they were being fair. Heck, I even liked the kid at that point. The fact that Sanjaya is still there despite better singers being sent home before him is in my opinion because of teeny-boppers with cell phones being able to vote and the demented sense of humor of people like Howard Stern and the creators of VFTW website. They are only hurting this young man. Sure, he's popular, but for all the wrong reasons. He seems like a sweet kid. Has anyone considered how it may make him feel to know he has gone this far, not because he has talent, but because of a joke?

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

May be people are voting for Sanjay, but still top 3 girls are still on top.. Lot of places and radio shows previous American idol finalists keep making fun of the Sanjaya.. they need to feel the shame if they look back their performance and struggled to reach to the final position. They are all losers except the one who reached to the top two... they should realize and feel shame if they comment on fellow new contestants... Stop whining about Sanjaya.. start thinking about something else which is useful to society ... What you gain or lose or what your neighbor gain or lose .. nothing…. Sanjya has become a disrespectful young man because his ego has taken over, when he first came to AI he was polite and well mannered, now he is rude to anyone who doesn't praise him, and he really beleives he can sing, so sad for him.
He will end up on the heap with the others that were picked for their looks or the fact they were underdogs, wondering why nobody buys their albums and he will fade away like Ruben, Fantasia and Taylor.

Everybody has a right to their opinion -- and the fact of the matter is, a lot of people happen to like Sanjaya. Sure, people like Melinda Doolittle have the talent, but she doesn't have the IT factor. Sanjaya is the one people are talking about over the water cooler, Sanjaya is the one dominating the internet, and he's the one being lampooned on Jim Kimmel, the Soup, and SNL. He is a teen idol, and he is now a star. That is really what this show is about. If it was just a singing competition then why not just skip the telly completely, have a bunch of audio files online and vote by phone? Oh, that's right, because it's not just a singing competition.

Sanjaya's quip of "Welcome to the universe of Sanjaya" as a joke -- was in reference to Simon saying he was in his own universe. I thought he was just being playful and having fun, no different than anything you would say to a friend. And that's probably why he's still on the show. If you don't like the show anymore, DON'T WATCH IT! You have the power to change the channel! This is also interesting, since more people vote for AI than for the President of the USA. Shows you the mentality of our people...
Finally, how many of the people that complain will actually purchase the CD's when and if they are issued? Look at how many CD's has Chris D. sold out of millions of votes. And finally, if Haley wasn't "selling" her legs why do the outfits keep getting shorter?. I bet that if her feelings were hurt, she'll wear a long dress or pants next week. NOT! My theory hinges on the fact that a huge amount of outsourcing now is directed at India and other countries in that region. If I'm not mistaken Sanjaya's ethnic background is part Indian. Now, before you say that they are a totally different time zone, the voting times wouldn't fit, etc. Because of the enormous amount of outsourcing that is provided by India and other countries as such the employees are required to work the hours that are normal business hours for the U.S. So, even if it is the middle of the night there it is like they are on the U.S. time zone. So, it would make sense that they would be available to vote either online or even through the telephone if this is the case. Is this the result of a young man with an entire country totally behind him because he is the first AI from Indian descent and the first "teen" "star" from Indian descent. If this is the case then AI really needs to do some major overhauling of their voting system and get it back to where only Americans can vote. After all it is American Idol and not World Idol.

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

Maybe this kid enjoys being a joke, or maybe his people can't see what a fool they are making out of him.He is going to be despised by the music industry, because the artist take their music very serioulsy it's like comparing The Greatest Story Ever Told to Howard The Duck no comparison.
I have seen egos take hold of teenagers before like this and it isn't a prety sight, I mean come on welcome to the universe of Sanjya, more like Bozo the clown but I really shouldn't say that Bozo had more talent.
I'm just wondering how low can the average IQ go to? Regardless of how you feel about the show itself at least you should have some sort of respect for the kids with talent trying to make their way in the business, yes you can say no matter who wins they all do but that isn't the point, Everybody knew that Clay Aiken should have won over Ruben, but for some unknown reason I don't know if they wanted a fat guy to win that year or just a Afican American he came out on top and his albums are a flop.
The same goes for Katherine, she could sing rings around Taylor and Simon kept dogging her all throughout the competition the same thing he's doing to Haley now and his albums are duds. There is only one year that stands out for AI and that is Carrie Underwood, I just bought her CD and it is really good and I know she'll only get better with time.
Open your ears, listen to the singers especially Haley and Jordan and you'll be surprised at the range in their voices. Think about the music you listen to today, and which singer has the qualitys in their voice that you would like to listen to, don't disrespect these kids by trying to make a joke of the show, they don't deserve that. Like everybody else in this world they're just trying to get ahead in life and the gift they were given shouldn't be made a mockery of.

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

hello jan (norman)... your premise doesn't hold water. american idol voting is restricted to the mainland USA and her territories. i should know, i live in asia and an advisory is pasted on the TV screen that IDOL voting is restricted in our country.

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

I am still waiting for Sanjaya to let loose ~ I suspect he would surprise us all!

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

sanjaya is an entertainer. he really can't sing but he can entertain. I watched idol last night for the first time this season just to see what all the talk was about and i found out. i was entertained. he does his own thing and people enjoys that. people are not bored with him. he entertains them. haley is boring. doo little can sing but she does not entertain. i agree with simon about all of them they did not put their effort into the contest. they act like all the kids today and do just what they have to do to get by they don't realize what they have to do to what something so bad they can taste it. they had to work to get the audition for idol but once they got to hollywood they slacked and have continued to be slackers except sanjaya he is working each week to stay on because the country wants him off badly and he has to do what it takes to stay on. maybe the others should have to want the prize bad enough to have to work for it each week. also the judges are BORING!! except for simon he is the only one who is brave enough to tell these kids the truth about their talent. why sugar coat your words paula? You are not there to mother them. did you get where you are by people sugar coating their thoughts about your talent? get tough!! start judging.. start doing your job and let their mother wipe their tears. Start being honest like Simon....

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

Inaykopo, Asia - But does it really stop people from outside the country from voting.. that was what I was really getting at. I know there is a warning that voting is to be performed by America only but with the technology and knowledge available today voting can easily be done on the internet and the IP address routed enough times that it appears to have come from the US. I honestly have quit watching the show. I just record the results and skip to the end to see who was voted out or catch it on the radio. I don't think any of the contestants this year truly are capable of being a recording powerhouse as past contestants have been.

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

With all due respect, does no one realize that there is a generation of extremely board people out here in the US? We are TRYING to screw up the show. If the original "formula" for the show no longer works, it then loses it's credibility, then it goes away. Besides, it's interactive entertainment... flood the show with votes, tip the scales, topple the house of cards and make some people mad. Sounds like fun to me "Generation Me". The Sanjaya Effect will only help stiffle the lame offerings of corporate entertainment. But don't worry, I'm sure the folks at the alphabet networks will come up with some other trite distraction for everyone soon enough. In the meantime, go out to a local music venue and see actual musicians performing in front of you!

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

Sanjaya is not a good singer or overall performer. I have to agree with Simon that this is a singing contest and Sanjaya can not sing. The two best performers I have seen this season is Melinda Doolittle and Lekeisha. We need to get back to the point of the show which is the best singing performer for IDOL!!! Simon, I'm sure this is your show, so I'm hoping you will do something about this nonsense, so it will not happen next season.

Simon has no words for Sanjaya

With all the theories and plots about Indian voting, call centers, "people" tiring of the old AI format, and this is a "singing contest" and not an "entertainment show", maybe Olive Stone will do a movie about "The Sanjaya Effect" and how all this voting is affecting global warming. I agree with George (Wednesday April 11) Sanjaya is still re-inventing himself every week, so I'm voting for him. Now I understand and will never watch american idol again. After the way they crucified the kid Sanjaya for being different, rather than being just another singer mimicking someone famous. Sanjaya is certainly not Grandmother's favorite little boy, and Fox (randi, paula, simon) could not stand his daring performances. So, they booted him off the show. Voted off? I mean come on, he was a joke from the top 12. Yes the judges voted him in at the beginning, but all the voters kept him there. Why? I haven't got a clue. Nobody should be blaming the judges on a 90 second audition. Night after night you get three minutes, which is double what they got, and you keep voting him back.
The thing about the legs...well if thats all she had that night, might has well give some praise on something, cause the singing was definately way off. I am glad to see that those two are gone.
