I just saw 2 ads last night that were really annoying (we rarely watch live TV but last night were watching a baseball game): one was the Live Water ad with the lizards and the weird model dancing to Thriller and the other was this strange one for Baby Ruth with a person in like a giant bobblehead singing "Take me out to the Ballgame." We thought the lizard one was bad, but then that bobblehead one was just goofy. Also, the Viagra ad with the guy driving by the woman in her driveway every day and then showing up in the motorcycle, and she's ready to hop on. Stupid! Didn't see a single good ad last night...

Is it only me with my mind in the gutter, or is that Subway ad with the girl eating the five dollar bill, a little porno? She is kind of leaning back against a wall with this huge sandwich in her hands and is licking her lips like she is ready to do something besides eat the sandwich...it just totally grosses me out. Note to Subway...eating filthy, dirty money does not exactly convey the right image either. YUCK!

I adore the new Burger King ad with the giant-sized, metal-detecting galoot. He is snarky, intelligent and entertaining and of course the seal is an added bonus. "Ain't no bugs on me" has me diving for the mute button...ANNOYING and they've been playing it for YEARS! Get something new!
Barfing e-trade baby, or any commercial with a barfing baby...gross.
Pregnancy test commercial doesn't offend me, but I prefer the one where he says "the most sophisticated technology you will ever..." and then clears his throat instead of saying "pee on".
One I love? AT&T commercial where the guy is playing pool and "he won't answer his phone because...he's a dillweed" LOL

In my area of the country, the (northeast), it's the IO Digital Cable commercials, have me reaching for the remote as fast as I can! They had the stupid one of the "rappers" dressed up as Lobsters on the beach with that HORRIBLE song,,,,,,,,IO DIGITAL CABLE blah, blah, blah, blah ....4448. Now they have the obnoxious women in the kitchen, with horrible make up, singing the same song. AND it comes on during EVERY commercial break. It is absolutely the most irritating commercial that I have EVER heard. The stupid guy knocking on doors asking people if they have "Fiber" and swirling his hands in the air, is up there too, but nothing compared to those songs,,,,,,,,,,,,,,UUGGG!

I hate the new Mentos gum ad, where the woman drinks from the guys mouth like a water fountain. YUCK!! Who comes up with this stuff?

I like the Temrinix ad where the giant insect tries to get into the guy's house by delivering a pizza. The guy says "we didn't order any pizza" and the bug replies "can I just put this on your table?" Cracks me up every time.

But my favorite ads for the moment are the Stride (long lasting flavor) gum ads where the company execs try all kinds of wild tactics to get people to spit out their gum and "chew a new piece already" to help their botom line. In one a wrestler pounds a poor guy until his gum falls out, in another they let loose a ram on the street to butt into a guy's stomach and make him cough up the gum. Just hilarious.

I work in the advertising industry however on a much smaller scale than commercials... but I must say I cannot stand commercials... They all lead up to the same sales pitch and are not creative at all!! I turn the channel whenever a commercial comes on. I despise them that much. I use to love watching superbowl just to see who has the most creative ad, but over the last couple of years it has been nothing but a disappointment. My favorite commercial would have to be the Pepsi commercial of the boy drinking the rest of his Pepsi and gets sucked into the bottle you want to talk about funny and creative. Well Pepsi use to have it.

Also, the Sonic commercials--if selling to the masses means showing people enjoying their product who are part of their target demographic...then never underestimate the power of stupid/annoying people in large groups. (BTW, who is the agency that produced them? A&W Rootbeer [Or Mug?]--sometimes its good to be thick headed--was a similar concept, font, and obnoxious punching sound)

I cannot tolerate GEICO commercials because of their sheer number. Sometimes I watch TV with my finger on the mute button in anticipation. The lizard is especially overused. GEICO's voluminous ads sends me two messages about the company: 1) They have to charge high premiums to pay for all of them; and 2) If they have to push their product so much, it must be because no one would buy their inferior product if it weren't pushed so heavily

I'm not sure if these are local but the Comcast ads are my favorites on TV. Usually some totally ridiculous situation, like a bunch of protesters trying to prevent a construction crew from building on a vacant lot, with a tagline at the end "Save a lot". Or one with a fat guy riding his bike through an urban neighborhood and everyone calling out to him by his name, Money, finishing with the line "Everyone loves money". Plus there's a new one every 2-3 weeks or so it seems like. I rarely watch network TV, but see these all the time when watching local sports.

HATE the commercial where the speech impediment girl is talking about how important her eyes are to her photography. Really? You're kidding - eyes are important? Nothing against people with speech impediments, but her voice and phrasing GRATES! I have to change the channel or mute it when it comes on.

Have to respond to Howard's comments about GEICO ... no, their premiums are *not* high to cover the cost of the commercials. At least not for us they're not. And I believe the reason for the increased publicity is that for a long, long, long time GEICO was only available to those in the military or those civilians who worked for the military. It's now opening up to everybody, hence the reason for the increase.

Although I am totally for the message, the new MoveOn.org commercial in which the mom who looks like she is a recovering meth addict says that if John McCain plans on 100 years more in Iraq, she's not letting him have her son is VERY ANNOYING. What I DO like about it, though, is that I think more people are heading to MoveOn.org to see what it's all about. I wonder if they purposely made it irritating for that reason. They have an excellent ad with John Cusack that I saw on "Countdown" the other night, but I have not seen that ad in a pay-for-play slot... at least not here in DC.

Years ago, after Procter and Gamble acquired Norwich Pharmacal brands like Pepto-Bismol, of course, P&G's agency took over the marketing of the product, and the first ad post-acquisition had a youngster complaining he was feeling "pukey." As I heard the ad over and over again, I was disgusted and wrote P&G. I was not alone in my feelings. The company wrote back several weeks later and said it had pulled the ads.

There is this Lincoln Tech commerical that plays in my area. It appears to be locally produced (reminds me of used car dealership commericals). But that's not the part that bothers me. To the guy from San Diego writing about Sonic's proximity--I live in Boston, and the closest Sonic is 244.33 miles away in Waretown, NJ. And yep, we see the commercials here all the freakin' time too. So it could be worse--imagine how the people in, say, Augusta ME must feel!

My theory is that they want to encourage people to take long road trips and stop at all the Sonics along the way.

I love the Geico Caveman commercials and always will. ALso i love the "Ain't no Bugs on Me" ad- I sing that to my 10 month old nephew and he loves it! I miss the Taco Bell dog, and the Duracell family of plastic robotic like people. And I hate the Outback Steakhouse commercials on TV and Radio.

I have to agree that I love the creditreport.com commercials. I have always loved clever and catchy jingles and here they have hit the nail on the head.
But my confusions comes at these people who like the pregnency test commercials with the urine...I mean I'm can be as crude as the next person but do I need to see something being urinated on while I'm eating? No thank you!

I just saw this Heineken Light beer commercial. Each person passes a beer to another person and it's all very cheerful and unified. Just all around cute. Same goes for the traveler's insurance commercial where this adorable old guy walks around with a huge umbrella helping everyone he meets along the way. It's almost like a fairy tale.

I hate, hate, hate any local car dealership commercials. Always so badly scripted, badly acted, and badly pitched. My feelings are the same for the Windstream internet and phone commercials (Northeast Ohio) with the green retro truck and annoying, idiotic spokesperson. I cannot roll my eyes enough!

by far, the commercial that had me rolling on the floor was the carpet cleaning commercial where the kid comes out as the mom is talking to a friend in the living room and announces "Mom, Toby learned a new trick!" to which the scene goes to the dog dragging it's rear across the carpet. The reaction of the mom screaming "NO!! TOBY NO! MAKE HIM STOP!!" is priceless!!!

Love the Geico commercials, but I liked them better before when it was just the Gecko with no stalker wildlife guy.
I like most of the Orbit ads, but hate the newest one that everyone else seems to hate.
Love he etrade baby with the clown, but hate the one where he barfs.
Hate the dancing girl and lizards. Creepy!
Hate the Jetblue commercials.
Love the pregnancy test one.
HATE the ones for gardisil.
Hate all of the Viva Viagra ones
Really hate the free credit report ones
I'm sick of the alltel guys and their wizard, but also love the ones with the girl and mom screaming nice things at each other-girl: I love you! mom: I know you mean that! Cracks me up!
Love the Terminix ones with the giant bugs.
Love the sonic commercials. My family went on a recent vacation and kept reenacting this one until we finally had to find a sonic and buy a shake for each of us!
My favorite commercials that aren't on anymore were for Pedigree and featured a dog named Echo in a shelter. A family walks by and Echo walks to the front of his cage with hope on his fact only to watch them walk away with a look like "hey, you forgot me" while the voiceover says somethin like "I know that I'm a good dog, but I don't know why I ended up here" Always made me tear up, but then came the one showing Echo again and it said "I don't remember how I got here, but I remember the day I went home" and a door opens to find Echo playing in the backyard with his new family. Cried like a baby!!!

I have to throw in my "HATE HATE HATE" vote to the Mentos gum commercial where the lady opens the guy's nose and uses his mouth as a drinking fountain. I think the only ad more disgusting (ever) than this was the sour skittles goat commercial. I want to throw up every time the Mentos gum commercial is on!

I love the K9 Advantex (or whatever) commercial. The puppy looks just like my dog did when he was that age. Besides, how can you not love a commercial with a singing labrador puppy? They're like the cutest dogs ever! I hate the peeing pregnancy test commercial; it's just so distasteful. The freecreditreport.com commercial is annoying and always stuck in my head. Also annoying is the bratty little girl that doesn't like anything. She needs a time out.

I absolutely love the Heineken commerical with that song playing It's Love. Each person hands the bottle of beer to someone else, like a cowboy hands the bottle to a ballerina on stage, then she in turn hands it to a bunch of guys in a suana. I saw the full version of the commerical last week for the first time. Its very catchy... its la la la la love, its love.

I get a nasty kick out of the Cheetos ad set in a laundromat. One woman complains to a second woman that there are other people using the facilities besides her, whereupon Chester Cheetah points to a dryer full of clean white clothes turning round and round and says, "Those are hers." The second woman gets an evil grin on her face, opens the dryer door, puts in a handful of bright orange Cheetos and starts the dryer again. I laugh out loud every time I see that.

Ads I love to watch over and over: any with the Geico lizard (it's the accent and clever wit); PetSmart with the dachshund; Jeep Liberty - Rock Me Gently (hmmm, am I seeing a pattern here?); Jack-In-The-Box; Sonic (very Seinfeld-ish).

Ads I cannot stand: Rosetta Stone language programs;
e-surance cartoons; any that promote pharmaceuticals (Levitra is particularly annoying); Billy Mays.

Ads I really, really miss - "Yo quiero Taco Bell?" The talking chihuahua ad campaign was one of the most successful in the history of television - so successful, in fact, that Taco Bell fired their ad agency. The reason? They were selling more toy dogs than food (I have the entire collection). Before the chihuahua campaign started, I had never set foot inside a Taco Bell. And, when they pulled the plug on the the ads, my trips to Taco Bell ended.

Truly clever advertising garners response.

oh why has no one mentioned the slim jim ads?!! they are so incredibly horrible. they all feature some creepy miniature version of the main character, their "wild side" or something like that. then it freaks out when it eats a slim jim...creepy!!
and i've just about enough of the alltel geeks too. the wizard one drives me particularly nuts because as horrible as it is, i always thought it could be a little more funny if they put a tiny white beard on the doberman (hey, if the baby's got one?).

I can't remember what organization this series of commercials was from .. but it was a very simple sketch of a stick-figured boy and dog. The boy was smoking pot and a bubble appeared over the dogs head that said 'You disappoint me.' I can't explain it .. but those commercials crack me up! They even ran those advertisements in magazines. Love those!

I am retired from 35 years in the advertising business and for many of those years I was a TV Producer so I am VERY critical of ads.
There is a new commercial with the Sinatra song "Come Fly With Me". One of my all time favorite songs...
Reduced Fat Wheat Thins actually had the nerve to use this iconic song for their commercial. It's sacrilege!!
My other rant is about the IO Digital Cable ads. They really should fire the ad agency that thought of these commercials and ALL the people who approved them! I immediately turn to another channel when these come on.

I hate those mini bags of Lay's Potato Chip commercials. Why is her husband 6" tall? I bet Rick Morranis had something to do with it. They could have gone so many other BETTER directions with the ad campaign on this product ("grab and go", pack it in the kids' lunch, serving size snack). There are so many things about these ads that just drive me up the wall. I have to change the channel when they come on.

I also hate the Sobe Life Water one with Naomi Campbell. I remember it premiered durring the super bowl. THAT is that you're spending millions on? A has-been former super model dancing to Thriller with a bunch of CGI lizzards? The radio commercials are also quite annoying.

Wow-so I read through all these comments and I'm amazed at how many of these commercials I recognize! Anyway - my favorites for fun are always the jingle ones, so all of the free credit report.com ones, the advantix puppy, and I'm surprised no one mentioned the Verizon Red Hot Deals day - sung to We wish you a Merry Christmas - complete with carolers. "We wish you a red-hot deals day and an awesome new - awesome new phone!" LOL!!

But the one that makes me cry every time is the one about gun crimes, when this long funeral procession goes through this neighborhood and different kids run to the hearses and disappear (indicating they died) -and the last child gets in the back of the police car (indicating he killed someone). All the anguish on the parents as thier kids disappear, and the last mom...I could cry right now. Very powerful.

Perhaps its an older commercial than I realize, but it is on frequently is for Kaiser with a kid in a suit talking about when he was younger, he fell into the wrong crowd, neglected relationships, had adopted some bad habits (the drinking was the worst)-- but now that he's older, he's taking better care of himself. Things are looking up.

I just laughed out loud the first time I saw the Verizon (I think) commercial where the girl gets a pony for her birthday and her friends received new cell phones with nifty features and they are obviously scared of the pony eating the doghouse. Their horrified reactions are priceliess. I actually was skipping through it and backed up to watch it. I also enjoy the AVIS car rental commercials where the cars talk like scorned and jeolous lovers - "did he just look back, I think he looked back" - too funny.

I absolutely DETEST the IKEA commercial shown in Northern NJ. It shows a woman checking her receipt after making a purchase and she is apparently shocked at the low prices. She runs out to her husband screaming at him to start the car to make a quick getawayand then gives a war whoop as they drive away from the store. It is so obnoxious I immediately change the channel. Also those Viva Viagra commercials have got to go - they gross me out!!

Most of the ones hitting the love button with folks- are the ones that I detest- the puppy has got to go- drives me nuts!

For the ones I love- pretty much all of the Jack in the Box ones (hee- I just said dipstick)- and the new Scion one with the wrecking ball swinging between two Scions with a (I think) little girl doing the He loves me, He loves me not... then the wrecking ball takes out one of the Scion while the announcer is saying Love us or hate us the new (whatever the model is) has arrived. I have no clue why I like it- but it sticks with me for awhile.

Ads I hate more than anything--the Mentos gum add with the watercooler mouth (mentioned multiple times here) and the Huggies ad where the baby, mid diaper change, pees all over everything. I know this is a normal part of parenting, but the commercial shows this baby really hosing the place down. Not funny.

As far as the commercials mentioned in the original post, except for the pregnancy test commercial, none of them do anything for me--in fact, I find them all pretty annoying.

As far as commercials we like, my husband laughs so hard every time the Stride gum commercials come on. These are the ones where they are trying to get people to spit out their gum and chew another piece.

We also both laugh at the PetSmart commercial (every time), with the dog sleeping soundly in the master bed--until the owner comes home and calls for him, so he jumps off the bed and gets into his doggy bed.

I really like the AT&T commercial with the worried father up at Lover's Lane looking for his daughter because he didn't get her message. At the end I always yell along with him when he says, "Kelly! Kelly Moore!" The one commercial I simply cannot watch is the one for the ASPCA (I think) that plays Sarah McLachlan's "Angel" and shows all the homeless pets. I have to mute the TV and either walk away or change the channel because it makes me cry so hard.

I love the ad where the couple are in the convenience store. A husband asks his wife to pick him up a Pink Lemonaide from the cooler. Before she opens the glass door, in walks this 40ish, hot, hunky, fully clothed, macho guy who walks over to the cooler and picks up a drink. He walks away, plops down his money and leaves. The wife is so "gaga" she forgets what she is there for. For all I know it could be an ad for the lottery ticket they end up buying but who the heck cares, this guy is so hot. Thank you for putting an "adult" clothed man on tv for women who are tired of the younger stuff today. I'm buying whatever he's selling.

I hate the commercial (I think it's for Travelocity) where the couple is in their hotel room and the guy is looking for his flip flops but a jackhammer keeps going off in the background. This commercial is especially annoying at 2am (I have bad ringing in my ears and having the TV on helps me block it out). Do they really need to play this commercial in the middle of the night? It makes me not want to use their service.

The trio of guys who appear in the Credit Report.com commercials are very funny. The closing lyric in one warning about the possibility of selling fish to tourists in T-shirts is especially good. Also, someone mentioned the Geico ads with the "celebrity" spokesman. The early one with Little Richard was some of the funniest tv I'd seen in a while. And having Peter Frampton doing his "Do you feel like I do" thing with the guitar--brilliant.

Also, the one with the kids on the front lawn of a very proper manor drinking Capri Sun and one of the kids blows air into the empty pouch and then decides to stomp on it while the other kid shakes his head for him not to do it. The first version was kind of disturbing and had his clothes blowing off of his body when he stomped on the pouch. But there are other versions and I find the one where he ends up in princess clothes hysterical!

I really hate the commercials that show a family bonding over a car ride. In one, the teenage daughter doesn't even know her younger brother's name, and in others the parents are blissfully happy as the children sit in the back seats glued to the tv monitors. Unfortunately, it's a sad commentary on how disconnected we have become as families.

I absolutely hate the new commercial - I think it is McDonalds that offers old coke glasses. The couple is making what they assume is music by hitting the glasses with spoons and clicking them together. This is so incredibly annoying I can't stand it. The only good thing about the commercial is that there is about a 5 second period before they start banging on the glasses and it gives me time to grab the remote and mute it.

What I absolutely cannot stand is the TVGuide channel's surreal life. Paaalease!,these people(?), aren't interesting and all they know how to do is cuss and use hand jestures. I do not!!!! enjoy sitting with my children and trying to see what's on and having that filth come on at 7:00 in the evening. I flip the channel as quickly as I can. Where is TVGuides brains, in their pants? I am complaining to our local distributer and I hope everyone else does to, this show(?) belongs back on MTV where it is blocked at my house!

The Gas-X ad cracks me up. The guy is in a job interview, and everything the interviewer says sounds like a reference to gas to him. I laugh out loud every time the interviewer's assistant comes in and says "Your son rip is on line toot"!

But, how irritating was the big tooth running around screaming "RANCH!", a few years ago?

That guy is SO CREEPY! And why does he have on that stupid headset with the microphone??? Maybe it's for the people that have their TV's turned down??

But, I must say that I too, really miss the Pets.com sock dog with the microphone, and the watch for his collar. The one where he tells the guy to lift with his knees, and not his back,,,,,and the guy answers "Get off my back,,,puppet"

The very first Geico commercial with the caveman in the crew filming the "Anchorman", when the caveman throws down his cue card, and yells "Not cool Dude". That was the best one of all of the cavemen ones,,,,,,,followed by a close second of the one when the caveman is in the airport,,,,,,,,that jingle in the background is my ringtone on my phone!! (I know,, I'm a DORK,,,,but people think it's funny when it rings)

I LOVE the Visa commercial......"Tuesday Afternoon" playing in the background, adorable little girl riding on her Dad's shoulders, totally enthralled with their visit to the aquariam. Priceless. And a big shout out to the Sonic ads, too. Always sooooo funny.

OMG is it just me or does anyone else hate the cavemen commercial for Geico??? why didnt they just stick with the cute gecko?? i hate the cavemen but i have the song with them bowling stuck in my head. "let me be myself" ughhh. how come nobody has commented on that one? Geico ruined it by letting the idiot looking cavemen replace the adorable gecko with the british accent.
