Must-see actors? There just aren't that many any more, unfortunately. Through good films and bad, though, I'll always give Tom Hanks, George Clooney, John Cusack and Cate Blanchett a shot. I guess I've found more good films, and some great films, than I have bad ones with those four.

But Ben Stiller? I have exactly the opposite reaction to his films than the columnist. I avoid seeing his movies at all costs. One would think that would be easy, but my husband wants to see all his films.

My must-see actors: #1 Johnny Depp, no matter what the movie or theme, I am definately right to the theatre to see him. Ever since Edward Scissorhands I have loved him. #2 Ben Stiller, although I was not not a fan of him in the beginning, I am now. And after seeing his latest, The Heartbreak Kid, I love him even more. And I cannot tell you how many times I can watch Zoolander, Meet the Fockers, Dodgeball, etc. and laugh every single time. #3 Tie between Will Farrell & Vince Vaughn (although I HATED The Break Up), both of these guys remind me of Frat Boys. They always seem up to the party. Old School has got to be one of my All-Time Favorite moives (You My Boy Blu). Even Farrell's latest comedy, Semi-Pro Unrated, had me and husband on the floor laughing. And Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Tour was Amazing. Others that make the top are Adam Sandler, Owen Wilson, Ben Affleck, Matt Dillon, Jack Black, and Mike Meyers (although seeing the reviews for "Guru" I don't even know that I will go see it, even though I am the biggest Austin Powers freak).

I am more likely to go with those three rather than the "older" crowd. Although I may get a beating for the next comment, I will go with it. I cannot think of a single Tom Hanks movie that I enjoyed watching ever. Not Forrest Gump. Not Cast Away. None. He's just not my type of actor. The only Tom Cruise movie that I enjoy is Jerry Maguire. That's it.

So needless to say, I will only spend the money to see the comedies (good or bad) of the "frat boys" anyday.

I love Julia Roberts films, I'll watch anything she is in, George Clooney ranks there for me too, along with Will Smith. Although I dont get the Ben Stiller thing, yes he is amusing but he gets on my nerves sometimes. I did love him in the dodgeball movie though. I think Anne Hathaway is terrific also.

I am soooo happy to hear that someone else shares my passion for Christian Bale. I am 32 years old and watched "Newsies" just a couple of weeks ago just to see Christian Bale. I have been a huge fan since his "Empire of the Sun." (For those of you who haven't seen it, rent it, it is a wonderful movie).

I can't remember the last time I went to the movies but the one who seem to get my attention the most are Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Will Ferrell, and Jack Black. I am also a huge Chris Farley fan and if he were still alive making movies, I know that I would be watching his movies. Tommy Boy is one of my all time favorite movies.

I don't think there are "Must See Actor/Actresses" anymore. Far too many hit-n-miss shows with unpredictable players. When I was growing up, 9 out of 10 movies with Clint Eastwood were shows I'd pay to see. Now, there are no good solid action heroes worth the price of admission. Just about the only actor these days I think is almost guaranteed to give you an excellent performance (stupid show or not) is Will Smith. I won't go see everything he does, but at least the ones I do see I know he'll do a great job. As for the Actresses; There is a lot of beautiful eye candy out there, but few who stay with the types of shows I like.

They have all proved that excellent actors, who make you believe in the part they are playing. Even if the movie or the other actors are horrible they are always spot on. Tom Cruise is overrated. He has not done anything note worthy since probably "Born on the 4th of July".

Wow, I cannot believe no one has mentioned Matt Damon. He is probably the only actor who will make me see a movie regardless of subject matter. From when I first saw him in "Good Will Hunting" I thought he was talented even though Ben Affleck was garnering far more attention at that time and few agreed with me.

I think his performances are always interesting and he does not let his own vanity interfere with his portrayal of his characters.

Most of my favorite actors qualify as such either because of quality movies they have done which seem to outweigh the bad ones, or simply for the fact they're eye candy.
Depp is definitely high on my list, but I do have a love for all things Burton (and since the two are practically synonymous...) Other faves include Keira Knightley, James McAvoy (loved him since Children of Dune), I'm starting to like Shia LaBeouf (although I hated his character in Indiana), Will Smith, Orlando Bloom, Joaquin Phoenix...
Then there are those actors who just produce quality consistently. Daniel Day-Lewis comes to mind, or Cate Blanchett.
Really, I'm more prone to following directors or producers (Guillermo del Toro, Frank Miller, Robert Rodriguez, M Night Shyamalan, Quentin Tarantino, Coehn bros. occasionally).

I find myself drawn to Ed Norton and Christian Bale as well. When these guys are on screen you forget that they are just pretending to be someone. You only see the character. When people like Tom Cruise or Tom Hanks are on screen it seems as though it's "Tom Cruise playing so-and-so" or "Tom Hanks as.........." Norton and Bale make you love/hate/crave/cry with them instead of FOR them.

Unfortunatly, there is a lot of crappy movies with good actors - so it was really hard for me to make a list of must-see people. I hate going to see a fav actor/actress and the movie stinks. But still, I submit the following:

John Cusack - I just think he is the 'Every Guy' type of guy. I think John Cusack is to me what Anne Hathaway is to this column's reporter.

Samuel L. Jackson - Can honestly make a bad film better - case in point: Snakes On A Plane. Also let me say I think I would have really enjoyed Black Snake Moan had I not watched it with my mother. (UGH)

Oh man, I love a lot of the responses so far

Men: Will Smith, Alan Rickman, Shia LaBeouf, and Christian Bale. I love them in practically anything. As far as I know, aside from the Bad Boys films, I have paid to see every single one of Will Smith's movies in the theatres.

Women: Emma Thompson. I think Kate Hudson is cute. My husband likes Kate Beckinsale. Amy Adams is climbing my list. Honestly, though? I am never consistently impressed by any actress, really. Except for mabe Angelica Houston and Sigourney Weaver. They are fantastic everytime.

With the exception of Will Farrell (who is my admitted guilty pleasure) the one thing all these actors have in common is the ability to make me forget that I'm watching an actor. Meaning their public personae hasn't eclipsed whatever role they choose to assume. Tom Cruise used to possess that ability, but has become so adept at being Tom Cruise, that whenever I see him on screen of late all I see is Tom Cruise and not the character he is trying to portray. I don't know if he'll ever be more than just a personality to me anymore.

My favorites? Johnny Depp, Robert Downey Jr., Leo DiCaprio, Will Ferrell, Will Smith, and Gerard Butler (who looks good, and sings like a hot, sexy angel of music, pun intended).. I've loved Christian Bale since Newsies and Swingkids (amazing movie even if he wasn't in it). As far as females, They all seem so similar in movies today, but the ones I love are the ones that aren't blonde and perky all the time, like Kate Winslet, Anne Hathaway, Kathryn Heigl, Hilary Swank, Sandra Bullock and Toni Collette (especially in Muriel's Wedding). Now don't get me wrong, i like perky people, but sometimes i get tired of them being the same character with diff't names in every single movie. I am especially sick of Cameron Diaz, and Angelina Jolie. Even when they are in good movies (and Cameron is in two of my recent favorites, but I'm usually rooting for whoever is her oppostion)

There are quite a few out there, but I HAVE TO SEE any movie with Al Pacino, Robert De Niro or Dustin Hoffman, be it good or bad. They have become known for eating through some scenes in certain movies, but they're good at it no matter what! My up-and-comers are Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, Morgan Freeman, Cate Blanchett, Harrison Ford and even indie queeens Lili Taylor and Parker Posey (although she was HORRID in "Blade: Trinity"). Christian Bale and Ed Norton make my list too, but I'm a little hot and cold for Ben Stiller, but he goes get me every now and again. But don't forget about Tommy Lee Jones - he's a scene chewer at times too, but great at his craft.

Honestly, I cannot turn down a chance to see anything Brad Pitt's in. I know he gets a lot of flack for being such a pretty boy, but I appreciate how versatile he is. I became a fan of his as a young girl watching 'Interview with the Vampire'. And whether he's playing a cop ('7even'), a psychopath (12 Monkeys), an assassin (Mr. And Mrs. Smith) or a sly criminal (Ocean's Eleven)... he's definitely got my attention!!!!

Val Kilmer, One of the Best an under rated actors around. I've watched his career my whole life. As for Actors & Actresses that I'd shill out for a full price ticket no matter what with Examples: Christopher Walken (Balls of Fury), Jessica Alba (Love GuRu), Mark Walberg (San Diego, Ca "Good Vibrations Tour", Sean Connery (Voice of the dragon in Dragon Heart) Yes even these bad films they have done. If Clint E was involved in a film in any way, shape or form (actor, director, music), I'm in the theater. He has the creative juices to reel me in. Even his bad stuff is better than just about everything else. Philip Seymour Hoffman is brilliant. And then there's wildly intense Ed Harris and Tommy Lee Jones' controlled intensity. The guys really bring it to the table. I really like Laura Linney, too. She's very adept at keeping her characters real, but the gals have a way to go in making me fork over the bucks for a first-run seat.

Most of the actors on these lists are not only very good at their craft, but most of them pick interesting projects. My understanding is that the director, editors, and producers, have final say in how the story gets told, but these actors seem to make their characters work despite the poor decisions of the movie makers. Most of them don't play the same thing twice,unless it is a sequal and most of them make the sequals worth watching. They keep and demand your attention and that is what makes them so great.

There are a lot of fine actors in today's listing - Bale, Cusack, Blanchett, Carrey, Mortenson, Reno, Binoche, Bettaney, Macgregor, Roberts, etc. But, the artists I would watch doing a bathroom tile commercial are Depp, Norton, Gosseling, Jeff Bridges, Rush, Jolie, Streep, Dench. I don't know what people see in Hanks, Cruise, Ford, Anniston. They are all one-dimensional. If I were to do my all-time list in addition to my bathroom tile actors: Grant, Pacino, DeNiro, Hepburns (2), K. Douglas, Russell.

Heath Ledger was my go-to guy. STill will be for his final two movies. Christian Bale is another (yes, I even watched Newsies for him, and, more painfully, LIttle Women).

In the past, I had Kenneth Branaugh (coasting on the good will he created with Henry V and Much Ado About Nothing), and Harrison Ford (until he started doing those stupid action movies in the 1990's. Mosquito Coast was the last of his that I had to see).

Kate Winslet would be my must-see actress. Has she ever turned in a bad performance?

My must-watch actor list includes Christian Bale, too, as well as Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (the combination of the two in "Velvet Goldmine" makes the top of my head blow off every time I watch it). Also on my list, however, are a few guys you wouldn't likely see starring in blockbusters (yet), but whose performances "make" the movies they're in (at least for me):

Michael Pitt ("Rhinoceros Eyes" and "Funny Games" spring to mind immediately, but he's been in a zillion fantastic movies)
James Duval (he's in a ton of indie movies, and always makes me sit up and pay attention; see "The Doom Generation" and "Totally F***ed Up")
Lukas Haas (see him in "Johns" - breathtaking performance)
Jonathon Trent (relative newbie, but "Boy Culture" and, to a lesser degree, "Alone with Her" both cemented him into my consciousness)

Sam Rockwell just blew me away in 'Snow Angels' - I can't wait for his next movie 'Choke'. James McAvoy in 'The Last King of Scotland. ANYTHING that Ewan McGregor does. Also John Cusack and Alan Rickman.

Too many guys to mention totally based on hotness (genuine like Christian Bale or quirky like Jack Black), but the hands-down number one "actor" for me right now is Don Cheadle.
