Bring back Charlie and Shannon on LOST. Shannon was finally getting comfortable in her own skin, and I felt like both of these deaths were unnecessary.

I kind of hope Toby comes back to the Office after the whole transfer thing with his replacement (can't remember her name). He was just so different from the other characters, it really added a lot, both in his acting but also in their interactions with him.

Paul Lieberstein (Toby from The Office) elected to leave the cast of actors to further concentrate on writing for the show. We may see him in a cut away or quick cameo, but he probably won't be coming back on a permanent basis.

I understand that actors choose to move on, but why is it necessary to kill off their characters, as with Warrick on CSI? Now Jim has been killed on Ghost Whisperer, for no reason that I can determine. If an actor wants out, why not just have his character relocate? Then he/she could come back for "visits" if he/she were willing. On Ghost Whisperer, if Jim is indeed truly dead, I expect viewship to decline rapidly. That relationship was the mainstay of the series, and, I'm sorry, Melinda and Jim's ghost just won't work out.

On LOST--Mr. Eko was such an interesting and moving character, I will never understand why they killed him off. Libby-just cuz Hurley liked her and she liked him. And now the man in the coffin who was on the season finale-I will not spoil it for you who may have missed it.

On Ghost Whisperer-I've known for the past 2 seasons that the husband Jim was a goner, but last season's Jay Mohr would have been a better post-Jim person for Melissa than is the new guy who hears (but can't see) ghosts. He is obviously a last-minute replacement, as Jay Mohr has (had? It is cancelled already?) another show lined up.

The killed-off character I miss the most is John Abruzzi from 'Prison Break' - played brilliantly by Peter Stormare. While a substantial amount of the cast was killed off after the initial prison break, his death was the most detrimental to the show. He added a great dimension the show has been missing ever since.

I was really bummed when the HOMICIDE TV reunion movie killed off Yaphet Kotto/Lt. Giardello, thus killing hopes of yet another revival for a great series. For the first time in ages, I'll watch ER to see Dr. Greene return. Like others, I got bored with the whiney characters and soap-opera plot lines. One of the best things about ER was seeing the characters grow, and they've all reverted to just whining. (Still hoping for Ross, Hathaway, Carter and the whole first-year team to turn up unannounced...)
And wouldn't it be a hoot to find out Col. Blake didn't die in that crash on M*A*S*H* after all? What a cool reunion program that would be!

Even though he killed her point blank, they should either bring her back, or her twin. Maybe this doesn't count because A) the series is no longer on television, and 2) I wouldn't have wanted the character brought back anyway.

However, this HAS to be the weirdest killing off of a character in TV history.

The series was The West Wing. There was an obnoxious character, "Mandy Hampton", played by Moira Kelly. A season cliffhanger (maybe season 2?) had a lot of people being shot. When the series returned in the fall, not only did Mandy's character not return; but, the character was NEVER AGAIN MENTIONED. It's like she didn't even exist.

I think it would be interesting to bring back Prue on Charmed (and have a special showing of Charmed which is not on any longer). To see how Prue would interact with Paige (the sister who replaced her) and to have "four" charmed ones would be a hoot. Of course since Shanon Dougherty was kicked off because she didn't get along with the other two actresses who played her sisters would mean this would never happen. Still - it would be interesting. I have to second Abruzzi, the two series I'm disappointed in most when it has come to killing off characters (I don't watch Lost) has been Prison Break and Heroes. Prison Break because deaths are unexpected and sometimes important characters, and always at the beginning of a season. This means you've had a whole year to not care about them, which makes their death mean nothing that early on despite the fact you don't want to see them die, it just feels out of place.

Heroes killing of characters is just stupid because you never know if they're dead, and the writers abuse their power of being able to bring back anyone at anytime way too much to make the show give you that emotional hook. Heroes is like the boy who cried wolf, once you've killed off 12 main characters and brought all of them back, when you actually do kill off a character, it's about 6 episodes later before you realize 'Wait, so that person actually died?' That definitely loses the emotional effect of a main character dying.

These last two characters would bring comic relief to a show which has become so political that I only watch it in TIVO so I can click past the trial arguments.

If anyone wanted to see The West Wing back, remember that the same is true of John Spencer (Leo McGarry). Besides, Jimmy Smits has had another show since, and, of course, the Santos story line had been loosely based on now Presdient-Elect Barak Obama. CSI's Warrick would not have been back, not after the actor's arrest on drug charges. And NCSI Director Jenny Shepherd had been give some type of fatal illness, so her death, although in a different manner, had aleardy been foretold.

Characters on TV shos get "killed off" for a number of reasons, including to accomodate their real-life demise.

On "Lost", they need to bring back:

Mr. Eko - He was one of the best characters ever to grace our TV screens.

Libby - I'm still dying to know why she was at the mental institution with Hurley.

Danielle - The producers promised her backstory way back in Season 2, and now she's gone, and we still don't have it.

On 24, they should bring back David Palmer. Doing all those insurance commercials are waaaaay beneath him!

And even though the show went off the air 40 years ago, I wish that they had brought back Barney Fife on the Andy Griffith Show.

For Pam in Des Moines: Not to argue, but it was Pam who woke up and found that Bobby was in the shower and that his death had been a bad dream. At any rate, it was a case of poor plot development IMO, and I think series should "kill off" characters as a last resort. This isn't "Star Trek" where people were brought back from the dead on a regular basis. In real life, once you're dead, you're dead (even if your ghost is still hanging out in the living room).

I agree with Daisy. The best send-off/death of any character in television history was Col. Henry Blake on M*A*S*H, both funny and touching and a testament to both Gary Berghoff and McClean Stevenson's acting abilities that you really felt their pain. The last scene when Radar reads the message about Blake's plane going down and the sense of loss cut off quickly because in war there is no time to sit and contemplate - they had lives to save.

Kate, Jenny Shephard, Shannon and Kelly on NCIS appear in flashbacks or in Gibbs's head to help him sort out his relationships. Maybe even a "surprise" appearance by his mother.

D'Argo - Have Crichton and Aeryn tell their son about Ka D'Argo, the great Luxan Warrior, the person they named their child after. I miss Farscape. Hope the webisodes generate interest in the show again.

This might not count, as the series itself is now dead, but I think the death of Mrs. Lanningham on "West Wing" was one of the most poignant ever on television. First, she had no skeletons to hide, the president relied on her absolutely, and to have her killed by a drunk driver was unexpected and provided several incredible episodes of perfect writing and drama. And its always disconcerting to me to see her now on "Desperate Housewives" or that V-8 commercial.

I think NCIS has lost it's flair since they killed Shepherd. I hated to see Kate leave but at least she was replaced by Ziva who is quite entertaining. The replacement for Shephard is boring....
