I love Grey's very much, but I will agree that lately it has been just so so. I want it to be good, so I keep watching. The Denny thing is just weird. She HAS to have a brain tumor...or something. Also, T.R. Kingh HAS to have left the show. He is barely in ANY scenes right now. I miss him, too. I still think of him as "Irish" from that early episode with the elderly woman. RIP George.

I was a HUGE Grey's fan! I stopped watching it because it was getting so off the wall. Come on! Really! I loved Denny and that story line, but we all got over it even Izzy! let it go! And the interns practicing on each other...and they are still in the program..yet another HUGE mistake! The plot are way too unbelievable. It is too bad because the show had some great characters! It is over for me no matter what they do! I have moved on to Private Practice and Brothers and Sisters.

Wow, I couldn't have said it better myself. I don't know why I want Grey's anymore. No, yes I do,habit and hope that it'll come back, though I doubt it will. (kind of like the last few seasons of the OC) The plot lines aren't the only thing that have gone south, I LOVED the music of the fist two seasons, it was so great, but now, even that has gone south.

The first two seasons were great, but they've seemed to have jumped a whole ocean full of sharks at this point. Something's gotta give! I think you pretty much nailed it down in your article, however I have to point out that Shonda trying to pimp her ratings and critical failing Private Practice by forcing Grey's Anatomy characters on it is another low in her creative choices. It does nothing to help the Grey's Anatomy story at all. It's purely to push the spin off that should be able to stand on it's own but sadly still cannot. Like you, I do miss Alex and Derek (as well as Meredith and Derek as a couple) and hope Shonda somehow can pull out of her creative slump and get back to what really made the show special.

I remember ER jumping one of its many sharks when it was clear that everyone had now slept with everyone. This almost happens in every season of Gray's so far, though the guy with the greatest number is still George, of all people. We are nearing the point where we don't care who sleeps with whom, and when that happens, Gray's will pop off the Season Pass Manager for good.

OMG, I thought it was just me becoming disinterested! Yes, Grey's has really gone off the deep end, replicating day time soaps, please. T.R. needs to stay. Why did they take Hahn off only for Torres to flirt with another female who is an intern? They should have kept Hanh and perhaps involved Sloan a little more. Little Grey needs to mature a little more before she hops into it with Sloan. Grey and Derek are "ok" and yes Christina needs some TLC. About time for her. George and Alex? Izz needs to get a live one, not a cadaver. I really do not understand what is going on either. Someone help the anatomy of Grey's!!

I stopped watching Grey's Anatomy a few years ago after the multiple explosions in the hospital matched with the entire intern staff getting away with cutting Denny's heart wires concatenated with Meredith's miraculous recovery from drowning merged with the total lack of sexual harassment lawsuits plus the preposterousness of a handsome neurosurgeon living in a trailer.

I totally agree. Totally off the wall. There are some great actors but the writers material is just plain awful. I like Calli and Dr. Hahn but the lesbian angle was a turn off. The latest with Izzie is just stupid.

Outside of House, most of the network fare is lame (and House came close with the prolonged development of the new team). I prefer the cable series like Monk, Burn Notice, The Closer, Mad Men, etc. Since they don't have the huge network budgets they have to rely on good stories and solid writing tomake their shows work.

I'm waiting for the next disaster to hit Grey's. They always go to the disaster well when the ideas run dry. Maybe this time there could be a bomb...oh, wait...a flood...nope,...a boat could...been there....I guess Grey's is running out of ideas.

Sloan and Lexie need to end, now. That storyline is awful. I don't know how someone can go from being in love with George, to sleeping with their boss who has to be what, 15 years older? Ew. I am not sure Grey's can be saved. The show lost me when within about 5 episodes, Meredith died and came back from the dead, her mom died, her stepmom died, she broke up with Derek, Christina's wedding was called off, and Izzie's long-lost daughter needed a bone marrow transplant while Izzie pined for George only months after losing Denny. Give me a break. Grey's jumped the shark with the ferry accident, and hasn't looked back since.

Keep Denny and let Izzie go to the great here after! He's much more interesting than she is any day. I love the Dr. Dixon character - way to shake up the staff with her mannerisms and abrasive comments. We need more Bailey - she's fiesty and fun to watch. Do something with Callie! This woman is a live spark and you've got her flirting with other female interns - PLEASSSEEEEE! Add some depth to Meredith and Derek now that they've moved in together, and show some reason why Chang and Army doctor belong together. I'd love to see more of George, but since he's leaving I guess that's a moot point. Do something with Alex - it's like he's furniture most of the time. Focus on the main characters just like in seasons one and two and you won't go wrong.

I stopped watching Grey's after the end of Season 2. The Izzie and Denny storyline was at least interesting if not a little unbelievable. Then Season 3 started to creep into the realm of the weird and Shark-jumpy and this year? Well...I just read the recaps on MSNBC. It's really a pity because the first two seasons were so engaging.
At this point I don't know what will fix the show to be honest. As another poster said, "Hey how about a disaster of some kind? Oh wait..."

I own the first three seasons of "Grey's" and will watch them loyally for many, many years. However, in my opinion there is a trend of great shows declining after the third season. "Grey's", "Alias", "Buffy", "Desperate Housewives", and others. Maybe it's because three years is as long as it takes to draw-out the original (and best) plot lines. There are definitely great shows that have sustained life beyond three seasons ("Friends", "Sex and the City", "Scrubs", "Entourage", ect.), and I think it's because they knew what worked and stuck with it, instead of trying to evolve into something that makes them look ridiculous. "Grey's" was a funny, quirky, comedy-drama, and now it's a sappy, ridiculous, trauma-filled "drama", that takes itself WAY too seriously. Too bad.

1. George is whiny and annoying - i haven't liked him since season 1. Good riddance!!!
2. Love Hunt and Yang together. Good chemistry and for once they are taking things pretty slow (at least for Grey's).
3. I love the Lexie and Sloan thing - it seems they could potentially balance each other out. Who cares about the age thing - she's too naive and maybe he'll get her to grow up. In the meantime maybe she'll get him to settle down a bit. He needs that!
4. Denny and Izzie? They need to cut it out - I've always like Izzie and Alex together and they are almost there! George and Izzie? That was the dumbest thing ever and am glad they won't revisit that!
5. Put more Mer/Derek scenes
6. GET RID OF THE CRAZY NEW INTERN. She is the most annoying character and everytime she calls Meredith "death" I want to scream. Its like nails on a chalkboard.

Shonda spent too much time trying to develop Private Practice, and Grey's suffered because of it. Where did the depth of these characters go? What happened to the gut-wrenching, breath-stealing scenes that left us waking up the following Thursday with a smile just because the next episode is coming on? This is a downward spiral that I don't know if they can come back from. If Shonda was looking for Emmy-worthy material for Katherine, she could have come up with hundreds of other story lines--all of which would have been more believable, more realistic and more likely to capture the audiences of old.

I absolutely loved Jeffrey Dean Morgan and was devastated when they killed him off (stupid move!).

I became a sporadic watcher when the George and Izzie thing heated up. Absolutely no chemistry beween those two and it disgusted me the way they treated Callie. It was embarrassing to watch Heigl think she was going to "take on" Callie after she and George split and Callie was heartbroken.

Then the lesbian thing was TOO MUCH and it was an unbelievable plot line so I stopped watching.

The show was great for two seasons and then it went into the toilet. Cancel the show already.

I miss the Grey's that had the wrenching storylines and undeniable loves that you couldn't help but to get involved in. I was happy to see Burke go, but does Christina have to be involved with another Dr. ? How about someone who isn't in the loop to give an outside prospective to the show. I am glad Mer is not self wallowing so much so that is a plus. The Denny storyline is just creepy, and George needs to find George and be the loveable force he was when the show began. Let Callie be Callie and show her as the strong Latina her chatacter can be. I miss the old Grey's and its not so far gone that it can't be revived so to speak. Maybe the writers strike hurt worse than we could have imagined and all those days on the pickett line damaged their creative juices. I don't want to see the show give way to the "soap opera / Desperate Housewives" type storylines. Where it is all just too D#@M hard to believe.....

I have not been able to watch a single episode this season from begining to end. I FF through about 95%, stopping only to see Dr. Sloan, Lexie, and Alex Karev. Everyone else ranges from underused/boring [George, Mer, Derek], to absolutely ANNOYING [new interns, "death/die", etc], to PATHETIC [Izzie, ghost-sex, etc.] Please STOP. Just get back to basics--focus on the main group, with just Lexie and Dr. Sloan in the mix [not necessarily together]. EVERYTHING ELSE SUCKS.

I have watched Grey's since day 1 and been a huge fan but I just can't stand watching it any more. The Izzie story line is horrible...just make Denny go away. I can't believe we are stuck with him until February. The interns operating on themselves was just dreadful - first of all, that would never happen with the best and brightest overachieving doctors and 2nd of all, even if it did, they'd all be fired. Christina's story line is kind of interesting and MerDer needs something. It's like they aren't on the show anymore. Make the pain and agony stop.

I also agree that the power plays between Meredith and Addison, Yang and Christina, and Bailey the Mom vs. Bailey the MD have been some of the best TV moments ever...Why can't we focus on the 5 interns and their lives, rather than their dead/dying moments? If you have to get rid of someone, get rid of Heigl. She and Dempsey are biding their time till their contracts expire...then they're off to the movies.

I think the main problem is Shonda. The podcasts are ridiculous as are the story lines. I loved the first few seasons, but Season Four started out a complete mess. Get rid of Shonda and get some decent writers on the show! And since it is called "Grey's Anatomy," would it hurt to actually give Meredith more screen time and show the relationship with her and Derek? They hardly get any screen time! Stick with the basic characters that it started out with, and quit bringing in more people! Give us the people we started out loving and stick with them! Shonda has ruined a good thing.

I enjoy the Dr. Dixon character and I really liked Hahn...especially her lament of all the pretty-faced doctors. I love the characters on the show but there's no reason to care about any story lines because they can be completely abandoned at any moment. I hated the way they handled the Rebecca/Ava, Hahn/Callie, and Izzy/George storylines. Merideth really annoys me...I'd love to see Derek have some passion with someone else who appreciates him...there's no ressurecting MerDer for me.

I too am becoming disillusioned with Grey's plot line as it is. Grey's was the only show that I had to make time to see, now I wonder where on earth it is going. Pleeeaaassseee let Denny stay dead! This Denny Izzie thing is just to freaky to follow. Let him die already! I miss the Meredith/Derek drama, I miss Dr. Bailey in her element, now that Dr. Hunt is in the picture, bring back Dr. Burke. That would definitely spice things up. Please bring back Addison. I'm just not feeling Dr. Dixon, her character just adds more freak to the mess. I don't blame George for leaving, he does not have anything to work with.

Please bring Izzie back on track (goodbye once and for all Denny), get rid of the new psycho intern, bring Callie's feet back to the ground, Meredith and Dereks relationship is too complicated to be so eventless, love interest for Dr. Bailey. I'm missing the fun Grey's, the fun is gone!

I love Greys, but I agree that this season so far has been lacking. First of all, they've all but abandoned the main couple of the show--Mer/Der! They are finally together, and we fans want to see them have good storylines as a couple. Second, they need to get rid of dead Denny, get Izzie healthy again, and let her have a healthy relationship with Alex and focus on her career. Her perspective as a doctor was always unique and entertaining--bring that back! Also, please give Baily (one of the best characters and actors on the show) a storyline again--let us know what's going on with all her family drama. I think it is ok if George goes...they have so many characters, and he was never one of my faves.

I absolutely DO NOT agree with what Isaiah Washington said about or towards TR Knight (ignorance is hateful no matter what) but I do miss Burke. Pretty ironic I thought the best chemistry was between Burke & George and George & Bailey. We need more BAILEY, McDreamy and BRING BACK Addison ASAP! Taye Diggs can come along with her too. I like Hunt & Cristina together. He is a man’s man which is very sexy. I think it sucks what they did to Dr. Hahn. I admit, I wasn’t exactly a fan of hers but she was real. All of the sudden, you get cold feet because the lesbian storyline is making the suits at ABC skittish so you fire her. Get a backbone for cryin aloud. Loving Sloan but not with Lexi. Lexi and all of the other interns need to be voted off the island. Now, lets talk about the one subject we all viewers are complaining about “Izzie & Denny” Seriously, if the writers really loved the character of Denny then they should NOT let him die. Granted that was a heartfelt storyline but I’m over it. I’ve grieved and moved on. I believe Izzie has a tumor and the worse it gets, that is when she thinks she is having sex with him. Grey’s should just copy the soaps and had Denny come back as his twin Danny.

My suggestions:

Let Denny rest in peace (or at least bring Jeffrey Dean Morgan back from the dead on Supernatural where rising from the dead makes so much more sense)

Drop Meredith and rename the show Yang's Anatomy. Christina is a far more interesting character than Meredith.

Stop trying to make every medical case so dramatic and/or exotic and get back to focusing on the characters and their relationships.

I love Jeffrey Dean Morgan, but everytime he comes on now I cringe. The ghost storyline is ridiculous. I was just warming up to Dr. Hahn's character and they get rid of her. I do admit though that the lesbian storyline was too much, it just didn't fit. I hate the new intern and I really don't like Mary McFarland's character. More Sloan, Bailey, Mer/Der!

ABC, you are losing your mind. Get back to basics with good medical storylines (poop transplant, really?). And bring back Pushing Daisies! Whoever canceled PD must also be the one approving these GA episodes.

I love the Yang / Hunt pairing. I think it's hot. I don't think they need to be friends first. Grey's ruined Izzy and George when they made them a couple. Stupidest move ever. I'll be glad when George is gone. I'm tired of his character. He's become a waste of space, sadly. I don't blame TR for wanting out. I'm relieved that Izzy's issue is brain-related. I'd hoped they would make that the case. Too bad they don't kill her off, though, and bring back Hahn, who at least was interesting. Love Sloan still, love Bailey still. Think the "interns operating on each other" was a waste and while I'm happy to suspend reality a bit - come on now... right now I watch for Yang / Hunt, and Sloan. The rest is just fluff.

Shondra Rimes said all of this was because KATHRINE HEIGL WANTED AN EMMY??? Heigl should have walked off that show when she got her feelings hurt instead of subjecting all of America to this season. It was suppose to be about interns, but ran out of realism when they graduated! Firstly, Meredith should have gone with the veternarian, and kept the friction and tension going between her and McDreamy. As a couple, the Mere-Derek thing looses the drama. Or maybe Addison should have stayed around as the wife and Derek always being conflicted and flirty. Whatever happened, Shonda was just a one-season wonder! No vision of where to take great characters beyond their original creation and storyline. Much less, no sense of what has made great medical shows, or their sense of ethics. Bring back Chicago Hope and St. Elsewhere! They had a sense of comedic elief but still maintained integrity and a modicom of reality and nobility.

The show has always been silly and off-the-wall, but when it was clever enough it worked. I'm an on and off again viewer, who gave up on it for the most part this season. I do miss seeing a bit more of Baily and Alex, I like them as actors, along with Dr. Hahn, bad move to lose her.

I was never interested in the Izzy/Denny storyline, so to bring it back is exasperating to me. Add the interns and the pigs and forget it. I was done.

Get rid of the new interns, no one cares about them. Plus they are made out to be more like high school kids than doctors. What is wrong with Bailey? Nothing, she is the strongest character and she is now playing Mother Teresa.

I agree, bring back I. Washington. Such a great character. He apologized, let's move on. Since the actor he so offended is still on the show, and not used at all, give him the boot instead. George looks like a lost dog most of the time.

Dr. Sloan will soon be gone if all he is used as is a boy toy. Give the guy some real acting plots and let him act. I know he can do something beside screw interns. Let him cure cancer or something. Oh wait, MerDer tried that last year and failed.

Izzy, well, that is all just crazy. Denny is dead, and if she wants to die too and go make movies, so be it. Her movies on the big screen are not so great either.

If Desperate Housewives can keep a story line going with a bunch of dysfunctional women on a suburban street, them why can GA's?? Really the story lines for a doctor show with great characters should go forever. Look at ER. Either get it going again or cancel it!!

Much as I absolutely loved Denny and was at first thrilled to see his "ghost", it really is way too bizarre. I had hoped he'd be coming back as an "adviser" or something like "Ghost Whisperer" in reverse. I felt Callie and Hahn had amazing chemistry and that story line showed some real integrity and growth in Hollywood--oops, so much for that. Alex has some real potential as he matures--could even be the next McDreamy (in terms of being a mentor, friend and moral compass for the younger doctors--which this show desperately needs), but they don't seem to want to allow him that luxury. I really hope the writers are reading these posts!

You know I used to love this showI am a big Ellen Pompeo fan ,but i have to tell you the story lines are atrocious. The writers must be asleep at the wheel so to speak .I mean TR Knight& Katherine Heigl should not be trying to leave, the show was a hit ,but the departure of Burke and others was not easy to deal with.However Shonda Rhimes needs to take a break and give some one else a crack at it or be removed because she is killing off a great show with so much potential.They need to reshape the show let the characters let there hair down Rock & roll with it.I alos think they need to get more into there personal lives like in the past ,they spend so much time in the hospittal,time for another party and time to say goodbye to Denny for good or the show will join him.This is easier said then done but the writers know what they need to do so get it done.
