He is a shock jock and was doing his job. I don't understand why everybody is so afraid of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, two men who have had nothing to do since April 4, 1968. And personally, I am sick of listening to people apologize for everything they say. Unless someone is my friend, I don't expect an apology if they say something publicly that hurts my feelings. People need to get over it an move on. And don't worry, Imus will be back on satellite radio, just like Howard Stern is. At least there he can say what he wants without worrying about being fired.

Imus sues CBS

I support Imus' firing. It was an insensitive remark but that is what made the network profitable. I do not believe that Imus' joke reflected his true feelings. It was laughter they were reaching for with that comment. Feeding off one to the other, as they have always done. I believe Imus to be a feeling person from the inside out.

This situation had nothing to do with Sharpton or Jackson. However, if they see a small puff of smoke they have the ability to fan it until there is a blaze so large it cannot be contained. I believe if they are indeed Godly men, they would do Gods work (God does not cause problems, not mettlesome, instead is a forgiving and loving God) these two men ought to walk, talk and live the words of Jesus.

It bothers me that if a black man had commented about white women in a derogatory way not a single thing would have happened to him. What about the familiar joke "she dances like a white girl". White people do not stick together like the Sharpton's and Jackson's of the world. That is sad.

Where is the justification in all of this. Does CBS and NBC not understand what this is going to do regarding "free speech". Now the door is open and there is a lot more of this that will happen again and again. NO MORE FREE SPEECH………….

Imus’ image is that of a tough acting person but that is just a persona. His apology should have been enough. At least he was a big enough man to say he was wrong and he was sorry for his comments. If the Rutgers team accepted his apology it should have been over.

Prayerfully Imus will have a new and more supportive venue to continue his good works and entertainment for those of us who appreciated his and all the staff members humor. Where is the support for Imus? Will his followers be brave and support and follow him. I would follow him anyplace before I would Sharpton. What about you???????????????????????????????????????????????

Maybe just maybe the next time Sharpton opens his mouth and gets involved in a situation that is not his own, perhaps there will be another mouth as big as his that will take issue with Sharpton.

GOD BLESS THE IMUS FAMILY......we are waiting in the wings for you and your staff to be front and center of a new and upcoming project which will again entertain those who understand the difference in a joke and out right disrespectfulness to women.

I can't think of anyone, except for self-employed artists, who can say and do whatever while at work. Although rappers use the same type of language, and I do not condone (nor listen to it), it does not excuse Imus. Those rappers are created by and create the black community. They are often involved in intimate relationships with black women. What many are pointing out is that black male/female relationships are in trouble. It is not a problem that Imus can solve nor know nothing about.

Imus sues CBS

Imus is in a position of power. His premise is that if you wanted to call Oprah or Condi "nappy..." that would have been far more tolerable than describing young college girls in this way, as the standard is different for public figures than for private citizens. Imus was a bully in this case, not just "irreverent". That is the line that was crossed.

I would assume that CBS has scads of lawyers that vetted the firing and contract language before they dismissed him. If they missed the "irreverent" clause, the lawyers should be fired too!

He can say whatever he wants and exercise his right to free speech, but he has no Constitutional right to be paid for these things.

It just never gets media attention outside of the African American community. Truth be told almost all recording media is owned outside of this community and he who holds the money has the power and controls the message. Many rappers with positive approaches don't get the notoriety and air play that the gangsta rappers get (Common is a shinig example of this). When Jesse or Al don't get involved in a issue they are ostricized, when they do they are ostricized. If your perception of what campaigns that Jesse and Al are involved in leads you to believe they are racist, then I would encourage you to research all of what they do and rethink your opinion. Apply the same logic to them as you ascribe Imus. Although Imus had a history of inflammatory comments, his supporters encourage us to look at his entire career. I would encourage critics of these activists to review the total sum of thier work before passing judgement and applying labels to them.

African Americans for years have fought against use of the language in hip hop. The generations today have changed the meaning of these hateful words and made them okay because thier use have become commonplace. Conservatives constantly complain about the liberal media and how one sided it is. Media just does not mean TV. If record executives only market the negative and since entertainment dictates what is acceptable in society then it is reasonable to assume that the media is the blame for the acceptance of the deragatory terms. The media controls the access to the differences of opinion.

Al Sharpton & Jesse Jackson: 1
10,000,000 Imus fans for 30 years: 0

It would have been nice if CBS and MSNBC execs thought that listening to their customers was as important as listening to two whining opportunists. The Rutgers basketball team showed total class in accepting Imus's apology. The network execs showed total lameness in pulling one of their best shows because Sharpton and Jackson saw a chance for network face time and trumped up outrage.

I looked forward to Imus's show every morning and haven't listened to the stations who dropped him like a hot potato since. Or bought products from any of the advertisers who ignored all the good he has done over the years. They forgot about me, their customer and listener. I won't forget what they did.

It was also very disappointing how few of Imus's guests came to his defense. I applaud Bill Maher, James Carville, Joe Scarborough, and Pat Buchanan for keeping things in perspective. Shame on the many others who were so quick to use Imus's show to promote their own books and careers over the years, but were hiding in the closet when he needed you.

Imus sues CBS

The firing is so stupid. The show was not going to be profitable since the advertiser left. It is simply a matter of economics.
Yes, the outcry made them do it, no doubt, but the goverment did not censor him. His company fired him because he was not going to be able to make them money, which was his job basically

Imus sues CBS

William A. Firing him for his inappropriate remarks, was a very radical response by network execs. Imus crawled in the mud to appease Al Sharpton who has done more to erode race relations then anyone in history. Imus had command of a significant platform and opportunity to be the spokesman for improving race relations, as he has done with many other important social issues. Unfortunately he was silenced by MSNBC & CBS execs that did not have the ability to see the positive aspects of a national dialog on race relations. The talented young ladies of the Rutgers basketball team had their say and determined it to be appropriate to accept Imus's apology. Since the Imus firing fury died out after one week and is now forgotten, are the Rev. Jackson, you know, the one with the illegitimate child, or Al Sharpton, videotaped by the FBI agents making a cocaine deal, working to lift black America? Or are they making a big living from the predicament of the less privileged of our country that continue to struggle for equality. It's time for our black brothers and sisters to seek leaders that have credibility with all Americans.
Did Imus do wrong? Of course he did. As a long time follower, I know that he is a very good person that has been a victim of corporate America's obsession to be politically correct, even if it offends the majority.

Imus sues CBS

Ed is right: there is no free speech issue in any of this. I watched Imus every morning that I could (when I wasn't traveling) for ten years, on MSNBC. I think he's about half a moron. He was the best interviewer and no smiley-faced nonsense thing going in that end of the show-biz spectrum, by far, and now it's just gray every morning.

CBS & MSNBC: youse guise are fools. Historic.

On many occasions over that time I wondered how those on the show (not just Imus) got away with some of the things said. I guess I may now have the answer - Imus' contract apparently required it. And, if that's the case, Imus should sue the hell out of CBS. He'll probably use a portion of the payout for charitable purposes any way.

Radio has lost, for the present, one of its best entertainers (afterall, who else besides Imus would have the guts to ask then 2004 presidential candidate John Edwards, "what's that thing on your lip?") as well as true example of someone willing to face their own issues and accept personal responsibility for their past and present actions whether it be urinating in a phone booth or offending someone.

CBS' firing of Imus did nothing to redress the alleged issue (racism). His firing does not "take back" the comments - Imus' apology to those offended is/was the only thing that could come close to doing that. For that matter, it's entirely possible the women of the Rutgers basketball team would never have even known about the comment and would have felt no ill effects whatsoever had it not been for the opportunistic actions of Mssrs Sharpton and Jackson. I have a sneaky feeling the young ladies don't fit the Imus in the Morning audience demographic. Nice job Reverends.

Imus sues CBS

For all those claiming that Imus was fired because advertizers pulled their spots- do you really think that's what his contract said? The first thing he probably would have done was to have the Rutgers girls on for a week or so to have an in depth conversation, then all the others who he could have addressed this with, in his thoughtful and insightful way of interviewing, the educating and understanding by both Imus and the rest of us that could have come about with this rare chance is undeniable. But then, MSNBC doesn't care about that, they were just scared of Sharpton and Jackson.
The one person who actually made some sense was a black writer named Jason Whitlock from Kansas City I believe, who said Imus should not have been fired as blacks keep doing it to themselves, that a powerful white man should not be able to make those girls feel less of themselves. He also called Sharpton and Jackson "professional pick pockets". Too bad the majority of the black community can't see the reality as Jason Whitlock does, that is why I said White Supremists are relieved there won't be any in depth conversations on this, it makes their job easier!

Imus sues CBS

I here Imus may be back on Radio sometime in Sept. Free speech occurs when all parties are allowed to speak. To silence one party because they offend another (or others) is not an exercise in free speech; it is the implementation of an insidious censorship not-so-cleverly disguised as free speech.

It was a little unseemly for David to be there in his former frien'd timeslot. The Philly cone-head was soooo bad I could hardly stand it. Every other phrase he uttered was X "relative to" Y. And Stephanie Miller? Egad. I share most of her politics, but she was just vile. Those over-used, sophmoric sound effects on her show made the Imus show production seem downright sophisticated. (It really was, you know.) Imus played great, interesting music -- I'll never forget how he played the Dixie Chicks at EVERY break during their comeback. They need to send at least one of their five Grammy awards to him. Imus even touted the generosity of Rosie O'Donnell and her personal $300,000 donation to the Intrepid Heroes Fund. You never heard Donald Trump dissing her on the Imus show . It would have been a great healing and learning experience for everyone if Imus had been allowed to continue his show -- with a new perspective on race relations and gender equity. Yes, when you are publicly called out a ho, there is damage. All your friends, family and fellow students can see it on tv even if you don't, and you will hear about it. Sharpton is a racial bigot. Just look at the clear and direct attack on Mitt Romney. Then -watch him deny he said it. Imus is NOT the racist that everyone is making him out to be. When he apologized, I knew he was being REAL. Most of the people who pounced on him had NOT even seen his show. I am so disappointed that BOTH MSNBC and CBS dumped him so quickly. I can't blame Sharpton and Jackson entirely for his firing, but they were a HUGE part of it. Ironically, Viacom who owns CBS was willing to pay Dave Chappelle $50 MILLION DOLLARS to make racist jokes, dumped Imus when he uttered those three words. Ironically, NBC begs Alec Baldwin to stay on 30 after he berates his daughter on national tv. Last but NOT least, Al Sharton places his foot squarely in his mouth and the media BARELY blinks! What HYPOCRITES!

Imus sues CBS

A question to MSNBC and CBS: Can you define the words cowardice, hypocrite and spineless? For such a supposedly intelligent group of individuals, I am astonished at the collective lack of backbone in standing up to the Rev.(using that term loosely)Al Sharpton. Imus is/was the best thing on morning radio as well as T.V. and the show is admittedly edgy and always pushing the envelope yet it is embarrassing that you caved in to the threats of Mr. Sharpton, or as I like to call him "Mr. Double Standard". Could you please do some intensive research into the "RACIST" comments made by the Rev. and at least admit that he, the hypocrit, led you execs. right where he wanted you. Shame on you!!!! Mr. Imus made a controversial remark for which he regrets and he has graciously apologized; has the Rev. apologized for any of his? What a social disaster!!!! I will close(for now) with a comment my mother was fond of saying,"If we had known then what we know now, we would have picked our own cotton." Sharpton is an American embarrassment!
