Every Saturday morning I would bound downstairs to watch all of the shows mentioned..while munching a bowl of Freakies cereal. Even then you knew that the acting was campy - the wholesomeness and fantastical storylines kept a young mind entranced. I will probably see the new Land of the Lost movie, when it comes out to video...but I REALLY enjoyed the nostalgic replaying recently of ALL of the old episodes of LOTL on SciFi channel. What a step back into simpler times. NO sex, no bad language, minimal sets, repeating animations and still entertaining after all these years! Thanks Sid and Marty and Sci-fi Channel for reviving those long languishing neurons. Far Out Space nuts was my favorite! Just caught a bunch of episodes of the original Land of the Lost on SciFi this last Memorial Day weekend and was I ever in flashback mode. This was back when cartoons ruled Saturday mornings and it seemed like the Krofft shows were the majority of those cartoons. It was a fantastic feat of engineering and design and I hope some of it still survives some 30 years later. One of the few things I have from working there is my ID card.

The wonderful world of Sid and Marty Krofft

I'd like to offer a couple of corrections/clarifications. The brothers had said the Banana Splits show gave them the leg up to do their own shows like H.R. Pufnstuff, Lidsville, Land of the Lost, etc. Ironically, it was an episode of the Banana Splits Adventure Hour in 1969 that launced Sid and Marty Kroft's H.R.Pufnstuff which NBC picked up for Saturday mornings in 1970.

The wonderful world of Sid and Marty Krofft

Thank you people!!! They were a big part of my childhood. Great innocent times. I just wish they'd stop ruining the remakes and pay homage to these classics with some good scripts. Will Farrel in a comedy-esque "Land of the Lost"?? Who pitched that - and what idiot exec greenlit it? Those shows were of a serious nature - fun and adventureous. When I first heard LOTL was hitting the big screen I was intrigued and excited, but the trailer looks ridiculous. These remakes should have a serious undertone with some good writing (think "Goonies"). Why do these studios keep ruining the good stuff (e.g "Bewitched" - oh wait, another Farrel disaster!).

The wonderful world of Sid and Marty Krofft

Does anyone remember the theme park in Atlanta that was based on the World of Sid and Marty Kroft? As a 16 year old, it was the greatest place to work in the world. Everyone who worked there could juggle. It was inspirational to work (as a caricature artist) above the Tranquility stage and watch 33 RPM, Cock and Feather, The Miniature Follies (Patty Maloney and the Rice Twins (2 feet tall)) and many other great acts. Because I saw these shows continuously, I learned to ride a unicycle, juggle, and joined the FSU Circus because of it.
