I sat, spellbound and on edge, throughout the whole film but I kept thinking there must not have been a big wardrobe budget for the movie because Bruce Willis seems to be in the same outfit! No it isn't like the book, but that isn't the reason. It is the way the characters act that defy all reason. That and the deus ex ending of the military showing up instantly after the dad offs everyone. Everything about it is cheesy and over-the-top. But the ending does not imply that it was all just a dream! It's more like he was transported back to his turning point for a second chance to make better choices. But we're basically told he's going to end up in the same predicament. If it had been a dream, Pacino wouldn't have turned to the camera at the very end and said "Vanity, definitely my favorite sin." That wouldn't make sense if he wasn't really who he was in the "dream".

Movie twist endings: Did you see that coming?

N. Headly and Moore play best friends and joint owners of a beauty salon in NJ. Willis is Headly's husband and a total loser, who is dead when the movie begins. The whole film is framed by the questionning of Moore's character about Willis' death, and what really happened. Utterly brilliant stuff, IMHO.

Movie twist endings: Did you see that coming?

The Prestige
and
Unbreakable
Movie twist endings: Did you see that coming?

"Knowing" with Nicholas Cage was probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It started off ok, but the last half hour was totally riduculous!

I loved "The Sixth Sense" but I did figure it out before the ending. "The Village" was ok, but it had a much deeper message than just a creepy group of people.

Movie twist endings: Did you see that coming?

Cheeky-- I had totally forgotten about Sleepaway Camp! Reading your post totally took me back to being 10 and my older sister, who was 15 forcing me to watch it with her. That movie scared the dickens out of me (that and Sority House Massacre--I still can't see an old woman using a cane with a bird on it without freaking out!!!).

Sixth Sense probably had the best "Oh My" ending.

Movie twist endings: Did you see that coming?

Lucky Number Slevin...one of the best twists ever. The flashback at the end with Goodkat and Slevin riding off together in the car. Love it!

Movie twist endings: Did you see that coming?

How about 1996's Primal Fear (Edward Norton, Richard Gere, etc.)?
To this day, I still love watching the realization hit Gere's (aka Martin Vail's) face!

Movie twist endings: Did you see that coming?

"Primal Fear" with Ed Norton and Richard Greer has a very unexpected ending. Ed Norton is great--as usual and even Richard Greer is good in this. In the trailers and even the posters, they showed us a red line painted on doors - spray-painted. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they didn't have aerosol spraypaint in the... 17th or 18th century? Whatever era they were supposed to be re-creating. Even if they were mimicking the 19th century, it would be hard to believe they had spray cans. There were other glaringly obvious (and some subtle) problems with the story, too, such as: Where were the wheat fields that they needed to make the wheat-flour bread shown at the big village feast(s)? Many of the director's films have shown that you can't force or expect a twist-ending in every project. It gets predictable and sloppy.

One more quick example: Signs. The aliens are harmed and affected by water, yet they come to a planet that is 3/4 water and run around in corn fields in the late night or early mornings - when said fields are likely dripping with condensed dew. They presumably have advanced ships and weapons, yet no protective gear against the water they know is out there. Stupid aliens.

Movie twist endings: Did you see that coming?

Stacy M. And one more thing, I rented Mulholland Drive, and couldnt get through the past 5mins, but I didnt return it yet..is it worth watching?!

Movie twist endings: Did you see that coming?

"Frailty", without a doubt one of the best "twist ending" movies ever; will leave you tingling.

Honorable mention to "Donnie Darko". The entire movie is a head-scratching twist. Right up there with "Memento" IMHO.

Movie twist endings: Did you see that coming?

My vote goes to No Way Out. Loved that ending!

Movie twist endings: Did you see that coming?

The original Ocean's Eleven with the Rat Pack is not my favorite movie of all time..... but when trying to think of surprise endings that nobody else has mentioned here, I remembered their faces when they realized that they put all the money they stole in the heist in the coffin of that dead guy and while they're sitting at his funeral they find out he's being cremated. BA ha ha!

Movie twist endings: Did you see that coming?

Se7en has one of my favorite twists yet.

"WHAT'S IN THE BOX??"

Movie twist endings: Did you see that coming?

The Perfect Getaway:

The move was just "OK". The twist was interesting, but the ending just plain sucked!
