I consider myself lucky that I haven't seen the sour skittles ad yet. I hope I don't (not watching the youtube clip). I agree with the one about the man who wakes up with the King in his bed. If that happened to me, I'd start screaming and scrambling for my phone so I can call the cops. I hope that something from Burger King is proclaimed the worst TV commercial. Something needs to make them take notice on how stupid/creepy their advertising is.

I don't know if creepy is the word for this commercial or not. Creepy or weird...the sprite commericals that are subLIMEinal. I often get some sort of nervous reaction to watching the random images race across my screen that mean absolutely nothing, and are just....bizarre. I am spellbound, and I cock my head to one side as I search the screen for an understanding of why two very large sumo wrestlers, one yellow, and one green, smushing a man's head between their guts would make you want a sprite. I don't get it, it is weird...weird enuff to skeeve me out. I don't like them. I don't like them at all.

No, before you judge, I am not a stick in the mud, but I am the mother of two girls. I am 33 and they are 14 and 4, and no I am not a hovering over- protective mother. I consider myself to be a good mother who would like my girls to hold onto their childhood as long as possible and in this world today, that isn't very long anymore.
To get to the point, Female hygiene product commercials are becoming a little too explanatory and explicit these days. I am just waiting to be watching one of their Saturday morning cartoons go to commercial break and have a live woman start demonstrating how to actually insert a tampon, sponge, or the best way to apply the newest lube.I find it absoulutely appalling. WHY DO WE NEED A GRAPHIC OF HOW A TAMPON FITS INSIDE A WOMAN plastered across a TV screen?
I don't think that women or CHILDREN need a commercial to show us the proper way to use a tampon in a 30 to 60 second tv spot.
I cringe every time i see or hear one of these commercials on TV. You know... they have ratings for our tv viewing, but who the hell is watching out for these commercials that catch the attention of our children if not more than the shows themselves?

I agree with Rob in Tacoma on the Mucinex commercials. I think they are horrible! I think the commercial that is more creepy/disgusting than anything is for some nose spray (Afrin, I think). It has two disgusting booger guys shutting vaults in the person's nose then laughing. I have certainly felt that is what happens when my nose is plugged, but I really never wanted it pictured in such a way. It's just gross!

What gives me the willies is the Emerald nuts commercial that features Robert Goulet. The gist of the plot is that one needs to eat their nuts to keep the the Robert Goulet's away....and it shows him sneaking around an office messing up stuff like a gremlin. At the end of the commercial he goes crawling away on the ceiling. Weird and creepy!! What do nuts have to do with this guy anyway?? The top 3 ads that creep me out are (least to worst): The Mucinex ads that feature the snot family being vacuumed out of your chest cavity, the new Trojan ads where buying a condom makes the pig turn into a man and makes the woman suddenly want to throw herself at him, and ads for something called "Maxoderm" which is some tube of stuff that I'm guessing is an ED product. The Maxoderm ads feature some really old-looking man staring at some 20-something girl in a club, with said 20-something girl looking like she is working an invisible strip pole, and then the two of them running off to a back room together with the girl stopping to say "He doesn't need a prescription, he uses Maxoderm!!" - it's like an ad for how to hook up with a prostitute. Creepy AND gross!!! I'm just glad they did not give any details for how to use that tube of Maxoderm. That way I can imagine that Maxoderm is a toothpaste and not something more gross.

I think this commercial was for a pizza company (Dominos?). They were offering fresh baked brownies with a large pizza and this brown mass with legs stood on the doorstep during delivery and got hugs from the mom and child. They ended up smeared with chocolate. It was gross looking and that walking brownie looked like a big pile of **** with legs. Nasty! Every time the kid went to hug it, I was creeped out. Time to turn the channel.

We saw a new commercial last night for one of those "male enhancement/stamina" products. I could not believe how blatant it was! It is filled with messages on an answering machine from an anonymous woman raving about how incredible the guy was the night before. In one she calls him "Mr. Stamina." In the final message she informs him that she is coming home NOW and he needs to take some more of whatever the product is. The thing was one step removed from one sided phone sex, and it's on a cable channel during prime time!

And one added comment on the disturbing Skittles commercials: I was also creeped out by the little man being stuck to the ceiling to stop the Skittle leak. Are their marketing people all on drugs?

The ad I can't stand I only saw once, thankfully, several months ago. It was Burger King's creepy "eat like snake" commercial, with a guy slithering across the floor to get to a table where a triple cheeseburger sat. He then proceeds to open WIDE and swallow the burger whole, like snakes eat their prey. The whole time some bad 70's soul singers are wailing "eat like snake!" and "unhinge your jaw!" over and over. Truly awful.

I agree with all of you who despise those nasty mucus/snot/booger ads for Mucinex. I don't need to see that to believe their ad will clear my congested sinuses. What are these ad folks thinking?! I can't believe no one caught this one. A couple of years ago Quizno's Subs had one that actually showed a human character nursing on a wolf with a few wolf cubs. The commercial was later changed to show baby wolves licking his face instead....The "plot" of the ad had to do with the guy being asked if he was raised by wolves because he didn't know what Quizno's was..he has a flashback to him and his siblings with mother. The creepiest commercial I have ever seen, to the point where I have to change the channel now when it's on is for Stanley Steemer. A kid asks his mom if she has seen the dog's new trick. That commercial has the opposite result that the company desired. I would NEVER use Stanley just because I am so creeped out by the commercial.

There are some commercials that are truly disgusting, like the Sour Skittles one -- but one that really disturbs me every time I see is is one of those "heartwarming" ads for an auto insurance company (Progressive, maybe?) (Or is it a car rental company? You can tell how well it gets the brand recognized...) Here's the ad: a woman pulls into a car rental place saying that she just wrecked her car but fortunately her little daughter (about 3? 4 years old?) slept through the whole thing. The rental person gets the whole transaction done, and the woman on her way, as she holds the kid, still sleeping. So here's the thing: NO ONE, apparently, has checked on this kid! The woman has totalled her car, and the kid slept through it - and is still sleeping! Is she breathing still? Did she hit anything? Are there internal injuries? And what I get from the ad: hey, your kid might be dead, but we're so easy that you can get through the rental process without ever having to put her down and check.

The Progressive commercial: I don't think she totaled the car, just damaged it (i.e. backing into a pole). It would make sense that a kid might sleep through something minor like that.

I am not normally a person who does not want the different foods on my plate to touch, but the KFC chicken bowl commercials gross me out. The idea of brown gravy over corn - **shudder** yuck!

I also agree to the YUCK about the DQ waffle cone commercials.

Well, I read through three or four pages of comments, trying not to be redundant if someone mentioned this already, and apparently these commercials don't bother you folks as much as they do me. I am referring to the McDonald commercials in which the big pervert guy won't stop hugging the little seemingly helpless victim guy b/c the little guy brought him the big coffee instead of the little one. The comments the 'victim' makes almost sound like what a child would be thinking if he was being molested by an adult (or priest for that matter). It's almost like they are forcing to you to watch something really wrong happening and hear other victims of this guy chiming in about when he "got them". Nobody is able to say no to this guy even though he is just some oafy dork. Everyone is allowing this guy to molest them and nobody is doing anything about it! The McDonald's psychologists seem to have a real sick thread working behind the scenes in these commercials. Yuck! Too frickin' creepy!

Back to the femine care commercials, how creepy is it to watch the tampon commercials and following comes the dancing condom trying to find the bedroom and crawls under the convers commercials? WTF? I don't see any descriptions on how to use one of those, and last I checked....you guys have more issues in that department than any of us women using the tampon. lol
SO how does the advertising world come up with what is appropriate and what isn't? Some of these FEM commercials aren't any less explicit than a soft porn movie. THEY ALL GIVE ME THE CREEPS! I consider myself pretty open minded, but GIVE ME A BREAK! Everyone wonders why are kids know so much at such a young age. Short of cutting TV out of my kids lives all together, they learn just as much from commercials as they do from some of the shows.

I definitely agree that the Sour Skittles commercial takes the cake, so to speak, this year. In a strange, disgusting way, it is as bad as Digger for me; the first commercial since I saw Digger that's made me feel as creepy-crawly and sickened, that's for sure. I never ate Sour Skittles to begin with, but I'm sure as heck not going to start now! A reasonably close second line of commercials are the Burger King commercials; that big creepy plastic head just weirds me out. It reminds me of an animation I saw on newgrounds.com (I don't recommend it, please don't go searching it out or ask for a link) where the creepy clown from Stephen King's IT and the Burger King have a relationship and eventually end up with what is probably the ugliest, creepy looking baby you'd ever see (and surprisingly, the clown is the one who gets pregnant; there's something so effeminate in a way about the King that made me think it would be him, but it wasn't). Absolutely disgusting; I can never see a Burger King commercial without thinking of that and shuddering. But before I saw the animation I was still weirded out by the Burger King guy; that one where the guy opens up his curtains and the Burger King is on the outside of his window holding a sandwich; I would have screamed bloody murder, not opened the darned window! I swear, some commercials just make me wonder what the bleeding heck these companies were thinking!

Ginger, nothing beats sitting in a restaurant at a restaurant/bar with a few friends after work, and as we all know...those places are mostly full of men. AND right across one of the big screens pops up either the newest warming lube or the new tampon with a skirt commercial( that actually shows the tampon in 3D)!!! As a woman, I just cringe! I think that they make everyone uncomfortable. I agree, i think we all know what a tampon is and how they are used. Do the advertisers think we are just stupid and need reminded of how to use something that we unfortunatly use every month?
I don't see Home Depot giving a 60 sec spot on how to use their power tools and if we were to check the ER's across the nation, I am sure we would find many more accidents involving power tools than visits from females who have had a horrible tampon accident needing ER attention.

But here's a gross ad I saw just last night - a mom and daughter trying to use a horrifically filthy public bathroom while the narrator intones about how dirty and disgusting they are. I love the Robert Goulet Emerald Nuts commercial. It can bring me out of a bad mood, because I can't help but laugh at it.

It's funny to have read this today, as I just saw the ewww ad mentioned last night. It was not too long before I went to bed which probably explains why I'm so tired this morning. Skittles definitely gets the attention with their weird ads-the other one that gets me is the Skittles leak one where the guy attaches a bar to the ceiling and puts a little man on it to catch the Skittles with his mouth. 'Shudder'

The King from BK is just creepy, wrong, and needs to be banned from ever being seen again. I'm having PTSD flashbacks just thinking about him right now.

On the positive side, I frickin' love the M & M's commercials with the little people M & M's on the trampoline and such. The print ads for those with famous people in M & M form are very cute too.

The one that freaks me out lately is the PSA for terrorism. Little kids talking about not knowing what to do if we are attacked and then the ominous "Have a plan in case of a terror attack" at the end. Nothing like promoting irrational fear over something you have no control over. We have an earthquake plan, but an earthquake is a known disaster...things shake, you keep extra food and water and you have to be prepared to shut off the gas. What exactly should I be preparing for a terrorist attack? Stay out of tall buildings? Don't go on a plane? Hide under my bed?
I'm tired of the constant FEAR FEAR FEAR of things I can't do anything about. I would gladly take on the King anyday over this other garbage...at least the King is only a little creepy.

I get so sick of people claiming that ads that are repulsive or irritating are still effective because it makes people remember the product. Sure, I Skittles, Scion, and Orville Redenbacher's because their ads have amde me want to be sick. And I'll remember not to buy them next time I go to the store. The purpose of advertising is not just to make people remember a product--it's to make people want to buy the product. An ad that is offensive or scary isn't going to make people buy the product it's pitching, thus it isn't effective, no matter how memorable it is.

I love the DQ commercials w/ the waffle bowl and soft-serve. I think they're funny and cute. The innuendos are too subtle for kids to understand, and if your young kids get it, then they are way too sophisticated and you might want to ask what else they're watching.

Here's what's creepy...somewhere on Madison Avenue in New York or wherever commercials are now produced are the numerous "talented" advertising executives who sell this drivel to the companies selling these products. Why are these no-talent, immature and uncreative people raking in huge salaries for perpetrating these horrible ads on us, the paying public? Many of them cannot use the English language properly or put together a commercial that actually would motivate us to purchase the product. Where are the executives of these companies who must approve these ads before they air? Don't they realize that an offensive or poorly produced commercial will result in the loss of sales, having the exact opposite results for which they are paying the ad agencies these huge sums? That is really creepy.

I also think "The King" is so over-the-top that he becomes funny. Most commercials where he makes an appearance i find quite funny and not creepy at all. The BK adds i DID find creepy were the ones with the giant ugly rubber chicken suits. Seeing some monstrous, discolored and deformed bird hardly makes me want food and is certainly something that would have plagued my childhood nightmares!

Maybe it's my claustrophobia; but, the pizza commercial (can't remember the brand), with the guy delivering a box of chocolate chip cookies in addition to the pizza, gives me the shivers. The recipient says something about the cookies still being warm. Next, the delivery guy opens his car's trunk, and inside is his grandmother (or some grandmotherly-type) who is baking the cookies for him. Not only is the sight of that old lady stuck in that car's trunk creepy. YIKES!!! Give me some AIR !!!!

I see the Burger King plastic head series as more delightfully eccentric than creepy, but I don't think it prompts me to go out to the nearest BK. Unfortunately, the commercial is far more creative than their restaurants.

As for the toenail fungus commercial, I have to look away or change the channel every time. I absolutely hate that one. Feel pretty much the same about the Mucinex one.

What about slogans that maybe aren't what was intended? I'm thinking about UPS' "Brown Knows" campaign, and worse yet, J.C. Penny with "It's all inside!" Who approved these double entendre? The ad agencies must having LOL back at their office.

Eileen - I highly recommend a Tivo. Then you don't have to worry about muting any of the commercials. I agree with the consensus about a lot of the commercials mentioned (those I've seen when I've had to watch "live" TV) & am glad I haven't had to see some of the others. The Skittles one sounds way disturbing. I agree that a lot of companies are really stretching it with their ideas of what's a good commercial & what's not.

I know I wasn't the only one creeped out by the Chevy HHR commercial where the guys all rip their shirts off and dance around the HHR full of girls trying to rub up against the car while using their shirts to wash the windshield. That ad is wrong on so many levels I can't decide where to begin. But I can tell you where it ended for me - at the time I was shopping for a new car with decent cargo space. The HHR was on my short list along with the Chrysler PT Cruiser and a couple of crossover SUVs. The car sitting in my driveway today is the PT Cruiser. After that TV ad, I wouldn't even test drive the HHR.

the other one I found disturbing was years ago I think it was Milk of Magnesia, I was a kid, but the guy would be talking about have diarrhea out while he was jogging and the stop and pull the Milk of Magnesia from GOD only knows where and start spouting how good it was...Somehting about the fact that he would be running down the street with this stuff in his pocket I found creepy, especially if it so good why would you need to carry it jogging with you?

I'm so glad I'm not alone in my estimation of the creepiness factor of these commercials.

Skittles ad: times are tough for washed up actors. Digger: would have broken the one-award-per-year rule for this one. Plastic people: the Burger King would have met my Louisville Slugger if I had woken up with him in my bed and the plastic Quaker dude giving kids treats is obviously a pedophile. And Smilin' Bob: do you suppose his erection is as fake as his expression? Dead Orville: it's really sad when they have to exhume someone in a 'Weekend at Bernie's' ploy. Scion: I'm actually surprised that the creativity of their ad department is better than their design department. IT'S A BOX WITH WHEELS, idiots. Stop making ugly cars. Tampon commercial: we've come a long way since Jane Russell and the eighteen hour bra, eh? The only other ad that sends me scrambling for the mute button is a cholesterol ad depicting food and wierd looking people against a background of cheesy music and pastel colors. Yeah, let me run right out and ask my Doctor about that one. And I must insist that the overuse of that computer program that let's you animate animals and such be outlawed.

All this just reaffirms what I've known since childhood: that I would have made an excellent ad exec. Obviously it doesn't take much brains to get the job.

I completely agree with the unbelievable horrible-ness of the sour Skittles ad. When I saw it (which has thankfully only been one time), my jaw dropped and I sat there for the whole commercial going "eeewwwwww!!!" Truly horrible. Whoever thought that up should be fired immediately.

Oh yeah, and the caveman discrimination thing from Geico: need to let that go. It's just not funny. But irregardless, (ha ha. couldn't pass an invitation like that up) you have to give credit to the Head On people for at least changing thier ads after NBC News did a piece on how annoying the ad was. Not that the change was any more effective.

I hate those anti-drug commercials too. The music is bizarre, and I found them totally creepy. A talking dog takes a guy's girlfriend, raises a flag and then flies away with her in a spaceship? If anything, that promotes the USE of drugs. It's like you're already on some kind of trip or high. Bring back "This is your brain on drugs" with the egg and the frying pan.

These are a little old, but those anti-drug commercials where the creepy waif girl sticks a rotting raccoon (from a sewer pipe, no less) in her mouth before a kiss, or the best (worst!!!!) yet, the cat that coughed up a hairball (with realistic sound effects and I swear a bit of chunks) and the girl put it in her mouth! That's the one commercial that came close to making me puke.
I get the point, but I would gladly kiss a smoker than even think of doing that!! Way to go overboard.

My least-favorite commercial that has been showing lately has to be that "little lad who loves berries and cream". No point whatsoever.

And I HATE that "toenail gremlin" too. But for me the worst part is what happens after he jumps under the toenail: he scratches around (and brings friends) and turns everything a very gross shade of browny-yellow.

Lee, you are the most perfect example yet of what is wrong with most people today. If there has been one mention of that very ad there have been twenty. Try READING the earlier posts before you say "I can't believe nobody has mentioned" the ad you're thinking of -- because they darn sure have mentioned it. Over and over and over and over.

I think the reason we have such stupid ads is because viewers are so stupid and have such unbelievably short attention spans that they can't bother to pay attention for more than about 2 seconds. Like Lee here -- I'm guessing he read the article and then the first two comments and decided "why bother with the other 380+ comments, I'll just say nobody has mentioned this."

For K. in Indianapolis. It isn't the tampon commercials per say, it is what they are doing in the tampon commercials. I have worked in advertisement for several years and the main reason I got out was because of the need to out do someone else and not exactly about the product itself. Somewhere along the way we have gone from advertisement to somewhere that doesn't exactly resemble advertising. I mean showing me how to use a tampon on a 60 sec tv spot is probably going to turn me off of wanting your product. Yes, i will certainly remember your ad, and that is what it is all about. Something to remember your name. BUT, If I ever need a preg. test... I certainly will not buy the one that grossed me out on the commercial or had me explaining to my pre teen why u urinate on a stick
and the details of how it works. Especially when "i" wasn't ready for that talk yet. THANKS ADVERTISERS FOR PUTTING CRAP IN OUR KIDS MINDS THAT SHOULDN"T BE THERE!
Example of a commercial backfire: We had a local ad running that had this completely annoying man talking about his new cars. EVERYONE in this area knew this commercial it ran for several years. He annoyed me so much, I drove to the next town each time I bought a new vehicle even though I could have bought the same car from him. ( I had friends that did the same.)
But back to explicit commercials, who is sensoring these commercials? They are everywhere, anytime. SO, I don't want to hear about me needing to pay more attention to what my kids watch ( and I do).. because no matter the channel, these GROWN UP outragous commercials are on ALL the channels.

Spongebob Nopants is, you guessed it, Burger King. Same adult-belittling ad campaign that has kids sit by apathetically while their dad gets mauled by a rabid squirrel and say "Yeah, go back to sleep, mom." when she wakes up from dreaming she turned invisible.

As to creepy, surprised nobody's mentioned the Starburst commercial where the guy dissolves both his arms up to the shoulder reaching into a vat of hazardous material to get the candy that was accidentally dropped in.

Commercials, especially those aimed at an 18-and-under audience, rely on sadism, depravity, and amoral themes to appeal to youngsters. Scion, Skittles, and (sadly) Wendy's are simply the latest to jump on this bandwagon.

Oh, and even with the poor YouTube quality, it's obvious that Orville Redenbacher is CG. Bad CG, but CG nonetheless. Hate to be a relative of that man, either because they get to see him re-animated on screen, or because one of their own authorized them doing it in the first place.

To the mom in Mt Vernon - if your kid is 14, she probably shouldn't be scarred for life by seeing tampon commercials...she should probably already know about that, since most kids start having their periods by that age. Nicole.... I am aware that my child is 14 and does know about these things, but I had to explain it to her years before I felt it was time for her to even know or worry about it. My now 5 year old daughter knows also...because unfortunatly she watches this crap on tv also. Advertising itself is one thing, but describing how things work such as feminine products are just getting out of hand. It really boggles me that we allow this crap to keep happening because it is about the female body, but I ask you this....
If we had a computer image of a penis with a description of how to properly use a condom on a 60 sec commercial several hundred times a day.... I can bet you that someone somewhere would be raising 14 kinds of hell. Yet it is okay to show the female vagina and how a tampon should properly fit inside it. Try watching that one with your kids, and god forbid your step son.

I don't watch a lot of tv so I have not seen the sour skittle commercial, but a while back there was one for smoothie skittles where a kid apparantly had his hands amputated and replaced by beaters from an electric mixer. That was quite creepy.
On a side note though, ED, STD and personal lubricant commercials tend to be on later in the evening, and mainly on cable chanels that children should not be watching in the first place. While some may be creepy (I actually have a small obsession with Enzyte Bob), they are probably no more age inappropriate than the content of the shows they are on during.
And finally, Burger King should just be the all around winner for creepiest commercials ever.

I just saw the David Groh - Sour Skittles - Milking machine gross, gross, gross ad again today. It grossed me out so much, I immediately came to my computer and typed "Disgusting David Groh commercial" in my search engine, and sure enough there were links for it! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this commercial is creepy. I have to close my eyes when it comes on. And I can't STAND his ultra-creepy voice. We watch TV while we eat dinner, and invariably this one comes on. Added bonus...having this commercial come on in the middle of a CSI (insert city of your choice) that has just sloshed around a big old clear bucket of stomach contents. Yikes!

I agree...the series of Whiskas ads are awful! The men, pretending to be cats are just replusive!
How did they cast these ads? How did they find the most unattractive, creepy and shuddersome men?
