I remember it well as a kid and I think the show was so successful was because Lily, Herman and Grandpa showed problems that were common to all families; while what was UNCOMMON was the make-up and the gothic illusions. After looking at the series again after so many years, I think DeCarlo added a stableness to the show that was needed. After seeing the pilot I thought the first Lily acted more like a female hippie then a real mother, and I believe DeCarlo gave that realness to Lily in order to make the humor stand out.
An accomplished actress with a great career behind her, she will be missed by TV fans and Old Movie fans.

A lily for Lily Munster

Truly a wonderful actress...she was wonderful in such films as Criss Cross, Death of a Scoundrel, The Ten Commandments, McLintock!, and The Captain's Paradise. Even through the "scary" makeup she had to wear, Yvonne De Carlo's beauty still shone through and you could see how pretty she really was. Lily was always my favorite character on The Munsters, and I am proud to share my middle name with such a wonderful actress.

A lily for Lily Munster

How sad, but what fond memories I have watching her and the Munsters. The scene with her comparing her character's "simple upbringing" to that of "higher class" women.........how timeless & true it was then, and more so now. Sincere "inner beauty" will be this lovely woman's legacy.

I have been one of her fans since the 1940s, where I lived for the Westerns she appeared in and later as I matured I thought she, along with Maureen O'Hara the two sexiest and most attractive screen dreams of all time.
