Trying to find a great commercial that aired a few years ago for I think, Atlantic City or Caesars Palace. It featured a guy bringing in his client (a man dressed up as a furry dice)to audition for the Casino. It was hilarious. The manager would instruct the dice to "show him the six". Anyone remember or know what I'm talking about!!!

Have you seen the Clear Blue Easy pregnancy test that has what seems to be a stream of urine running over the test strip. The first time I saw it I was so shocked that I totally missed the name of the commercial. And a man is doing the 'voice-over', which to me makes it really creepy. Some things should be kept behind closed doors.

That stupid Snicker's commercial with the singing moron and his acoustic guitar. I will never eat another Snicker's again thanks to this commercial.

Scion ads. The cars aren't even real in the ads, and they are repeated WAY too many times. Adult Swim is inundated with Scion commercials.

Any ad that has the latest trendy Top 40 band in it. Rest assured, the commercials will be played non-stop so many times that your brain will hemorrhage.

I am sorry some of these ads do not only have bad scripts and presentation, mostly they lack discretion in the selection the time slots when airing these commercials. I had my fair share of teaching moments with a nine-year old, about "erectile dysfunction and its possible side effects," or the reasons why it now easier than ever for women to urinate on a stick. My kid running around at school or the neighbor’s house singing the Viagra jingle ...not so hot!
All the information about these products delivered to us during the prime hours of 5-6 PM when most people are preparing dinner and the TV is playing in the back drop. Some of these commercials should not be aired until a later time and get a better idea on how to present this "sensitive" material.

Carol... yes, a friend and I fell over laughing the first time I saw the Clear Blue Easy commercial. We had to rewind the Tivo to see it again. Oddly enough, there are two versions, a "clean" version that runs on over the air channels and the explicit version that runs in women's cable networks like Lifetime, We and Oxygen!.

I first saw the explicit version on Lifetime (yes, we were watching Golden Girls reruns!). When the infamous stream of... er.. urine?.. hits the strip.. the voice over says: "It's the most sophisticated piece of technology you'll ever pee on" That's when I lost it.
I later saw the same commercial on NBC, but instead of saying "pee" the announcer scratches his throat. Anyway... it definitely should have made this list.

Commericals today leave nothing to the imagination like the Viagra and Cialis commericals, and the worst offenders KY Jelly, skunk odor (you know the one I mean), and happy period. I am quite sure that anyone with a problem can see his/her doctor or pharmacist, for information, and keep these offensive commercials off the air. I am no prude, but enough is enough. I am embarrassed by them, especially when viewing them with my grown children. Kudos to any product that uses talking animals in their commericals. Animals rule and people are just stupid!

My favorites are Bush Baked Beans, any flea or tick commercial especially the Yellow Lab puppy at summer camp, any commercial featuring the little black and white Boston Terrior, Aflac, Geico, and Scoop Away. What are these ad agencies thinking anyway? And the networks who show these offensive commercials are just as bad if not worse.

There's a new commercial out for a bran cereal -- can't remember which one, so it's already failing as a commercial. But it features a construction worker talking about taking a 10-day challenge from the cereal to "change his life." OK, that's fine. Maybe it will lower his cholestorol or something? I don't think that's the kind of change that the cereal is marketing. All throughout the commercial, the worker is shot in front of various construction-type devices and activities, and all of them (I swear) show items being "pushed out" of something -- a long beam being pushed out of a small opening, a series of barrells being dropped out of something, and finally a ton of bricks being "dumped." I honest-to-goodness think it's imagery designed to promote, uh, regularity. The first time I saw it, I couldn't figure out why the contruction images were so prominently displayed. Then I saw the dump truck, and got it. Now, everytime I see it, I can only think about how this poor construction dude needs help "going #2," which I really find annoying. More annoying than a commercial that is blatently about fiber or whatever. Watch for the commercial and see if you don't see the same thing.

Update (or sequel?) to the Wendy's tree kicking. There's now one out there where people are sitting around what looks like a hospital or asylum with their mouths digitally painted out. One person writes on a slate with chalk "Why did you lose your mouth priveledges?" Another writes "Bad fast food" or something similar. Then you see the guard (or attendant?) wearing a Wendy's wig, eating Wendy's, and laughing at the people w/o mouths. Always creeps me out!

I think that Kellog's All Bran commercials are by far the worst. With a hard hatted construction guy eating a bowl of "All Bran" with background shots of barrels tumbling out of a dump truck so it looks like he's taking a dump himself!!! Other not so subliminal images of a steel girder being pulled out of concrete. It's such bad imaging, it's laughable. It's something that Ed Wood may have done if he was given the project. A commercial desperately suggesting that you'll have great bowel movements within 10 days of eating All Bran. Dumb!!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The worst commercials of all time are for local car dealerships. It's obvious most of these are made by 3 guys with a kodak digital camera. The people who work at the dealership either put their ugly children on the commercial (and you can't understand what they say) or the owner of the dealership is in some stupid costume (we have one around here called "Dodgezilla"). Plus, even if there's no costumes and no ugly kids, they ALWAYS shout or sing some stupid song about how NO ONE is turned down for financing. TOTAL CREDIT FORGIVENESS! A really loud voice will say the dealer won't allow us to say it if it's not true, but these cars are DEAD COST. Ugh. They just bug the crap out of me.

There have been a few of those Skittles ads that have been nausea-inducing. There was one not too long ago featuring a creepy man with a very long beard doing an interview. The beard moved of its own accord and fed a skittle to the horrified (female) interviewer sitting across from him. It was almost sexually suggestive, and left me feeling violated. My wife very nearly vomited the first time she saw it. Unfortunately, once you've seen it, as soon as the commercial starts you immediately recall the entire thing, so fast-forwarding or changing the channel doesn't help once it's started. I'm also looking at you, creepy Burger King ads, and the newest Wendy's ads, too (Dave Thomas must be rolling over in his grave to see what's become of his Wendy's character.) I have to think these ads are aimed exclusively at today's "hip and cynical youth". I don't eat at BK or Wendy's anymore, and the thought of eating a Sour Skittle turns my stomach (and I use to like Skittles). Congrats, ad execs! Job well done.

A few years ago, I saw a McDonald's commercial that really shocked me. It opens with a dad sitting on the couch. His son comes up to him and says, "Dad, what's sex?" Obviously surprised, the dad nods his head and leads the kid out the front door. The commercial cuts away to the outside of a McDonald's. The dad begins with a voiceover, "Well son, you see..." Then we see the dad and son sitting in a window seat in the restaurant. You can't hear what he's telling the kid, but you can tell the dad is trying to make this groundbreaking moment really understandable for his son. Then, for the final scene, we are finally given table-side access to the conversation. The dad finishes up his talk. The boy then looks at his dad with a slight look of confusion, but still nods his head. He then reaches over to his bookbag and pulls out a soccer sign-up sheet. The camera focuses in on two checkboxes:
Sex - Male or Female. Bam! The dad realizes what his son was really asking. He laughs and the commercial ends.

I haven't seen that commercial aired since. Whenever I tell someone about it, they ask, "What channel were you watching?"

Regarding ads: Did we hear correctly that General Motors Cadillac will be using Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, etc. as spokespeople in commercials to promote their car?

This is not the time, when a corp. is trying to improve their image and to attract a larger share of the market, to use people in ads who are divisive and will automatically alienate at least half of all prospective buyers. Todays politics do not unite, no matter which side of an issue one takes. This would be most detrimental to a corp. that needs to bring in new buyers.

As former G.M. employees, this is a concern. We have got a great product and we need to market it wisely. One would hope G.M. will drop this idea....forget the political jokers and the jocks...do something with an image that denotes class, wealth, and exclusivity. Jon Stewart and Colbert, while at least more current and cutting edge, would also be devisive and not appropriate for appealing to all.

How 'bout commercials that are repeated so often that they start to resemble a leftover fish - OK the first day, but P-U by the fifth or sixth! The Head On ads are pretty bad, except that the latest ones seem to be poking fun at how annoying the earlier ones were. And there's a local station that keeps repeating a Subaru ad with Sheryl Crow squawking "Everyday [sic] is a winding road" over and over ... and over and over.

I'm a little uncertain how to respond to some of these responses. I guess because I really don't feel all this shame and disgust regarding the human body. The ads that hawk this product or that product to "assist" with daily functions can sometimes be humorous and sometimes a little tacky; but, I don't understand the "horror" they inspire in some of the responses I've read. Peeing on a stick is how a home pregnacy test works; didn't you know that? Females from about 12 years old to about 60 or so years old have menstrual cycles. Why is this such a shocking secret that no one should know about or talk about? Personally, I would LOVE to have a "happy period". I think it's rather nice that someone I don't know would wish me such a nice little thought. As humans; we sweat, we pee, we evacuate, we smell bad sometimes, and sometimes we even have (sex)--or at least we would really like to if all our parts would work. Why is it so horrible to make ads that speak to these issues? We're humans not anatomically incorrect Ken and Barbie dolls. Could ad agencies do a little better? Most probably; but, to castigate all these ads just for being truthful about the foibles of the human condition seems to be a little sad.

First, there are the Geico commercials with Warren Wallace. This little obnoxious kid keeps saying that he enjoys putting his cousin, Mike Wallace (no, not the 60 Minutes guy), in the wall. Question: Why is Geico endorsing road rage?

Second, there is Ford hawking the Escape Hybrid. It starts with Mike Rowe saying, "You didn't buy that sedan for excitement." Question: Why would Ford say that their own sedans were boring?

I sometimes wonder if the ads don't come from disgruntled employees who hate their job, who are smart enough to present their ideas to executives like it’s the best thing since sliced bread. They know what they’ve written is offensive, disgusting or gross, but they also know how to con out of touch managers and get them to agree to the ad campaigns. At least I hope that it’s something like this, because if it’s not the result of a con job, then we have boardrooms full of men and woman who actually believe that the term “peeing on a stick”, is a catchy ad slogan, or that milking a man as a good selling point for their product. If that’s the case, I’m dumping cable and renting DVDs to get away from all this, because this is only the beginning.

I'm not offended by the Viagara ad, really it made no impression on me whatsoever, which is really bad in the world of advertising (I know because I work for an ad agency). The one ad I agree is terrible is "Spongebob NoPants," mostly because it's simply not funny. I understand that it's a terrible joke told by a dorky dad (oh, how original, a dorky dad), but it falls so flat it's just sad.
I think the "Rabbit's foot" insurance ad is really well shot and acted and written, but like a previous commenter, the problem is it does nothing to promote the brand it's advertising. I remember insurance, but what company? A great ad that fails at its ultimate purpose.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but I like the beer commercial (BudLite I think) where there's only one left and they play rock, paper, scissors - and one guy throws a rock at the other! Hilarious! Reminds me of the old cell phone as a person protection device ads. My fave of all time is still the one where the lady in the window predicts there will be cats everywhere just before the milk truck tips over.

I don't know if there really is a "worst" commercial since the whole spectra of TV advertising, including the talent-challenged makers of them, has become such an intrusive, vulgar, and brainless exercise in time-wasting that we all would like them to just become endangered and then extinct. Car ads have always been boring. Medicine ads are sickening and tasteless. Celebrity endorsements are not believeable. Alcohol ads tell only the "fun" half of the story. All political ads are baloney. The incessant need for networks to run promos of their other shows, during the one you're watching, is highly annoying and I could go on (as most anybody could) but I'm getting nauseated. If I had to pick one group of commercials that really gets me riled, though, it would be the class-selective "comfortable retirement" hogwash pushed by people we're meant to believe are former hippies who saw the light (after making their millions) and are now telling you that after those wonderful years of 60's anti-establishment anarchy, it's now time to move to Hawaii and boogaloo with affluent friends, expensive wine, hot sex with your still-perfect mate, and golf all day long. We were all flower children, weren't we? I was in Vietnam at the time so don't get upset when I tell you I'd like to clean ("I'm so cool") Dennis Hopper's clock. And let's leave Spencer Davis out of it, okay?

Regarding the worst commercials of the year I vote for the Clear Blue home pregnancy ads. As a woman of childbearing age, as well as most of my close friends, this is one product I will NEVER purchase. "The most advanced technology you'll ever pee on..." come on....Crass. I would like to know where to write to have it removed from the air! When I first saw the commercial I thought it was one of those joke commercials from Subway that pretend to be about something else. Bad, very bad. Someone should be fired over this one...or at least peed on!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I regret to inform you Americans that the Canadian Viagra ad where the participants talk in what I call "gobbledegook" is MUCH more insulting to the audience. It is undoubtedly the most stupid ad I have ever seen. It really gets to me that people get PAID for these things. OK, so kicking trees is the opposite of being a tree hugger. So what? No one gets it and even if they do...it's still has absolutely no appetite appeal what so ever. I "LOVED" the Clear Blue Pregnancy Ad where the guy says"It's the most sofisticated piece of tehcnology you will ever pee on!" That was the BEST Ad I have ever seen! Mad Props for the person who thought of it! Too bad there are idiots out there who find that offensive! The new one is funny too...but not nearly as funny as it was before they HAD to change it!
