I personally loved the Starburst Berries and Cream lad! I even had the commercial as a ringtone for a period of time. To this day I laugh hysterically when I see this creepy little man jumping around singing "Berries and Cream!"

I like the Berries and Cream Starburst commercial...but I don;t like the milking "Joe" commercial or the ID, BFK Jill...The girl is so obnoxious and way to young to act that way. My daugters are in their teen years, but would never act like that to their Mother or Father as that kid does in the commercial. The two absolute worst -
1. "Head On, apply directly to the forehead" and all of the related products.

2. Any of those "Vehix.com" ads. Must they be shown 50 thousand times? Yes, animals are cute, but if I have to see that women with the sunglasses-wearing golden retriever sticking her head out the window catching bugs....

Unfortunately I've just done exactly what their ads have wanted to get across - remember their product and the name. But it stops there - I will never use that website or that product.

Worst (ever!): Viva Viagra. The HD channel during the Philadelphia/Pittsburg football played it over and over and over...ad infinitum. I was embarrassed for the actors. "Hey, Mom! I got a role in a commercial! Be sure to watch it, okay?"

My husband is highly insulted by the Carl Jr's "flat buns" commercial. It IS in poor taste (and the voiceover "voice" makes me cringe every time I hear it), but I think there are worse commercials. Viva Viagra, for starters.

Another one I like (that always makes me laugh) is the Aflac one with the goat.

I also enjoy the Dex commercials. I have no idea why.

Best New Cingular Dropped Call ad: Roger Clemens asking his wife if he should play baseball again. Saw it last night and it is a classic. She is screaming "NO" in the phone but the call was dropped so he signs up for another season.

I neither liked nor disliked the berries and cream lad. It was just one of those ads that drew the "alrighty then..." type of reaction. Sure, it's weird, but it doesn't have the cringe factor of the sour skittles ad.

However, I'm one of those people that didn't like the "IDK, my BFF Jill" ad. Like others had commented, it portrays the parent as an idiot and the child as disrespectful. And it gives the point that if your children completely disregard the limitations set on the plan and run up the bill then just pay more so the little brats can do as they please. I preferred the ad in which the mother and daughter are yelling at each other, but in fact are saying nice things. It was clever and portrayed a better image of both parent and child.

And the Petsmart ad...well, as a dog owner myself, I can't help but to love it. The cute factor is off the charts!

She said that the results wouldn't be just based on votes, but would also take into account the comments received from readers over the past couple of months. If you read yesterday's blog carefully, you will see that she said she would have chosen "Spongebob No Pants" as worst ad, if she had been the one deciding.

This isn't an election. It's a blog -- Gael's blog -- and its purpose is to entertain. There is nothing sinister here.

I agree 100% that Sour Skittles is the worst. It may be the most sickening ad ever made.

The MOST HILARIOUS COMMERCIAL of all time, at least according to my 10-year-old son and me, was for Combos snacks ... "what your Mom would give you if your Mom was a guy" was the tag line I think ... it played about before the 2007 Superbowl game on west coast USA.

For anyone living in the Seattle area, the late-night Vern Fonk Insurance commercials are fun, but the latest one makes me laugh like crazy when I hear the slick used-car sales dude say "log on to the InterMET"

There is a series of adds where a kid talks to the camera about some service that provides information for salesmen. C Level contact info, company purchasing contacts, etc.

This mega cute kid prattles about how Mom and Dad are happier now that he uses this service and whispers that Dad is making a lot more money now too! Then, as a sacrifice to the Marketing Gods, her Dad shows up with a Puppy as a present. They couldn't be satisfied with just the cute kid...they had to throw the puppy in too.

It makes me want to puke. I know that kids and puppies are advertising gold, but c'mon.

The Good: I love the one with the Bloodhound and the cat trying to "sniff" out the litter box (Get it? It's so clean that the cat needs a bloodhound to help her find the litter box). Fresh concept. But really, I like any animal ad.

The Ugly: How about those stupid cell phone commercials where the Mother and Daughter/Father and Son say everything one way but really mean it to be the exact opposite? Like the daughter, in a screaming tantrum, will yell "You know I LOVE you" when we all know she wants to say "You know I HATE you" to her mother, who then says "Oh, you are not in so much trouble young lady", when she means, "Oh, you are in so much trouble young lady", etc. Those are so annoying, and I couldn't even tell you what brand of phone or service they were advertising (probably a good thing). Please also add that little troll man jerk from Verizon with the glasses: "Can you hear me now?" I know he no longer even speaks in the ads, but just a glimpse of him is enough to make me change the channel.

Outstanding... he's on the golf course with some buddies & calls his wife to say that they want him out of retirement, but she just has to say 'no' and he won't. Love most animal commercials...didn't see it mentioned but the Canon PowerShot commercials with Dolce are the absolute funniest...I could watch them all day. Any commercial having to do with personal problems or hygiene are disgusting-I wish they would place those ads only in magazines applicable to the subject matter so that I never have to see what I don't want to see or hear about (i.e., put viagra ads in playboy and pee on the stick ads in maternity mags, etc.) There are so few really good commercials.

personally, I try to avoid commercials like a bad rash but I have to admit, every so often one comes along that catches me off guard. Just the other night I saw an NFL season Kickoff commercial with Payton Manning and Reggie Bush checking into the same hotel and then using room service to get at each other. I was half asleep when it came on and I sat up and laughed. I know it was similar to an NHL commercial last season (same ad company) but I thought it was hilarious. In fact, I think all Payton Manning commercials are great. I love a star that can stay down to earth and laugh at himself.

You should make clear what you consider the criterion for success is. Commercials are intended to sell a product, only secondarily to entertain. Using this as a standard, the PetSmart bulldog toy commercial was only a moderate success, because half of those who liked it thought it was a PETCO commercial! On the other hand, using brand identification as a standard the uniformly annoying Head On commercials are a smashing success. Everyone knows about Head On now.

The commercial is so stupid, ('shocking a greenback back to life, ..."this one was oversepnt"... ) I actually have forgotten which car company it was advertising. and at the end where the nutjob dramatically strips off his jacket and runs clumsily with scuba gear on to the beach, "Together , we can save the greenbacks"

Unfortunately, most people don't see the brilliance of Starburst's "Little Lad" ad for Berries & Cream. The point of the ad is not to make you like the Little Lad or just entertain you--this is a paid ad, after all--it's to make you aware that the product exists. Have you seen any other ad this year that repeated the product name close to 10 times without it seeming overwhelming? Absolutely not. Will you forget that this ad was for Berries & Cream Starburst? No way. As for the ad being "weird" and "unrelated to the product," this is an ad for CANDY. How "related" would you like it to be? Should the ad have been two kids eating Starburst and talking about how good they taste? The product here is not all that rational, and the ad shouldn't be either--it should just remind you that Starburst is available. And "Little Lad" does that very successfully.

I liked the Wendy's tree kicker ad. The purpose of the ad is, "People kick trees, but they don't know why they do it." Likewise, "People eat non-hot, non-juicy burgers, but they don't know why they do it." It isn't until the hero (the guy in the red wig) who realizes two things: 1. I don't have to kick trees any more, and 2. I deserve a hot, juicy burger. This didn't come after deep reflection; the meaning it me immediately.

The IDK, my BFF Jill ad isn't my favorite. My favorite is the kid who was wasting his rollover minutes by throwing them away. I don't know about the house you grew up in, but that sure did sound like a fight in my house growing up. I thought it was great.

I recently saw an ad with Peyton Manning in it. I'm not sure what it was selling since I was laughing so hard. He proceeds to show how to throw a perfect football pass. " Wipe the window, elbow your little brother, and flick a booger." Then he lets fly and says, " Now that's pretty", or something to that extent. Now, I've always been a sucker for some potty humor, so this one struck a cord with me. Peyton did the whole commercial straight faced, while I would be peeing myself, trying not to laugh. Bravo to whatever company came up with that one!!!

I can't believe no one has mentioned the "Maytag Repair Man - Toy Repairs" spot. It is hard-laugh funny! Maytag doesn't run a very heavy schedule, but this one should get a lot of attention whenever it comes on. Need a hint? A toy assembly line is broken down. Stuffed animals are coming out of it with arms sticking out of their stomachs or something. The foreman looks at the Big Boss and says something like, "Don't worry. He has time" as he looks over to an electrical panel with the Maytag Repair Man fooling with it (emphasis on the lonely repair man never doing anything because the Maytag products are so reliable). Cut back to the assembly line: the foreman and boss are inspecting a stuffed giraffe - with two heads!! Then the repair man is shown quietly slipping off camera. I call my friends to tell them to keep an eye peeled for it.

I don't mind the Viva Viagra commercial too much, it's a catchy tune, but I do agree it's a bit disrespectful to Elvis.

An Elvis-related commercial I do enjoy, though, is the Jeep 66th Anniversary commercial, with a Jeep inserted into footage of Elvis in concert, the moon landing, Woodstock, snowboarding, and a Coyote/Roadrunner cartoon. I LOVE that commercial, and watch it every time it's on. I would never consider buying a Jeep (they're not my type of car), but I enjoy the commercial.

My new least favorite commercial is the Toyota commercial where a woman is speaking to her friend on the phone telling her what a good deal she got, "but don't tell _______ (kid's name...Chloe? Zoe?). She's been bugging us for a pony." And then you see the demon seed standing in the doorway scowling. Do parents really need an excuse to tell a 6 year old that she can't have a pony? What happened to just saying no?

I absolutely LOVED the "you bet your sweet Aspercream" commercial, but I guess some people were offended by the play on words. Personally, I love anything that makes me laugh, including the "the most sophisticated piece of technology you'll ever pee on" commercial. LOL... come on... everybody pees... everybody poops. Have a sense of humor, people! :) The European ads are the best, though some of them are way to risque to run on our TVs. I guess the Puritan movement is still alive and well in the US of A. ;)

I am in love with the Hillshire Farm ads - Go Meat! I don't know why, but they just make me laugh and laugh. I also love the Cingular dropped calls, although my favorite is not Roger Clemens but the one where he is asking his girlfriend about Earl (cat got your tongue? Earl got your tongue?)

A big huge honorable mention for me would be to the Nextel (I think it's Nextel or Sprint or whatever) ad with the dots - We don't agitate the dots. Who's agitatin' my dots? You agitatin' my dots? Cracked me up.

I am glad someone else feels a little unsettled by the pregnancy test. I don't like to see bodily functions replicated on TV. It's ridiculous but also kind of gross.

I don't know if I am an idiot here (always possible) but didn't the "Keep Goulet Away" spot for Emerald Nuts (who have always had hilarious ads) come out this year? The concept of Robert Goulet trotting through peoples' cubicles messing up their stuff makes me laugh every single time I see it. That being said, the original "doggie with his woobie" from last year and the bulldog with his baby sister has me shopping at PetSmart, that's for sure.

Horrible ads? That "BFF Jill" child...I'd rather watch The King and Digger all day than listen to that whining brat. I love kids, I work with kids, but this trend of snotty little spoiled brats being portrayed as cute? Rage.

I am SO glad I somehow never saw that Skittles ad without being well prepared ahead of time for how disgusting it is. Why on earth couldn't they have just used a cow? Dumb farmhand is feeding the cow Sour Skittles, they make her milk taste sour...point made! Instead they had to do something that I guess they thought their target market of 12-year-old boys would think was hysterical. But aside from being gross, it doesn't begin to make sense even in Bizarro World...the idea that male human beings would be used for commercial production of milk isn't just silly, it's a total non-starter...of course, I guess they had to use a man because they wouldn't have been permitted to even try the alternative...UGGGGHHHHHH.

The Wendy's tree kickers are also well deserving of the title, thanks to the nonsense of the whole tree-kicking concept, not to mention the guy in the Pippi Longstocking wig. It's not enough to have comedy be absurd, people! It has to connect to REALITY in some way...has everyone forgotten that? And last but certainly not least there's "Viva Viagra"...the king of tasteless ads for the over-40 set. Which old hit will next be used to plug ED drugs, do you think? "I wish they all could be Cialis Girls"? "Do the Levitra-Motion"?

I'd also like to put in a plug against the old paper-towel ad with the mother who reacts to her son spraying her with orange soda by spraying him with the sink water spray and making a contest out of it. I had a friend once who had a son, and she loved it. I thought "That's because you'd rather see yourself as your son's fun-loving pal than as his mother. But who's going to be stuck cleaning up all that sticky orange soda and water? YOU!" You don't want to know how my mother would have reacted had I or any of my siblings shook up a bottle of soda and sprayed it at her. Put it this way, it's the kind of thing Bugs Bunny would've drawn a curtain over in the cartoons so as to spare the audience witnessing the excessive violence that would result. Next scene: We'd be in traction in the hospital, with a sign in front of us saying "I AM YOUR MOTHER, DAMMIT, AND I DESERVE RESPECT...OR ELSE!"

Finally, kudos to whoever came up with the mashup "promo" for "The Odd Couple" starring the Mucinex mucus guy and Digger the Dermaphrodyte. Brilliant...just brilliant...I laughed my head off.

THANK YOU! Someone finally stands up and says how horrible that sour skittles commercial was. I hated it. It was so gross!

One of my favorite commercials is the Carl's Jr. Flat buns rap. I loved it!

In terms of other bad commercials the one I think is also kind of gross is the Carl's Jr. Orange shake ones where guys are licking the plastic because they think its ice cream or something. No one wants to see dudes licking stuff. They should have used girls instead to make it sexy.

The best commercials are the for the sleeping pill with the groundhog, Abe Lincoln, and the deep-sea diver. I especially like the one in which Abe consoles the insomniac, and the groundhog asks Abe, "Did you just say "chill?"

The "Viva Viagra" commercial makes me laugh. It is so cheesy. Those guys are going to need more than Viagra to establish their potency.

Amen! That commercial annoys me for all the same reasons, not to mention that the "flash mob" thing was, what?, three years ago at least?

I can't stand the "Get the Glass" Got Milk ads. First, they're impossible to follow, since there's so many of them being shown in random order; second, I have no idea why these people don't have milk, and I really don't care, and third, the one where the wife/mother loses her fingernails? That sends me diving for the remote every time it comes on.

The first time I saw the laxative ad with the construction guy, I about fell off the couch laughing.

A couple of years ago Quizno's ran this ad showing a man and a woman in business attire walking down a city street talking. She stops, looks into a trash barrel, reaches into it, pulls out a half-eaten sandwich AND EATS THE REST OF IT! The voice-over says, "Yeah, it's that good!" It really put me off my feed, and I never ate at Quizno's again. How do you sell food by making people sick to their stomachs?

I thought the first Hyundai DUH commercial was really dumb. Now they've come up with an even dumber one...the HoliDUH one. While I understand (I think) their point that it's a no-brainer to buy one of their cars, dressing people up in gospel/choir robes, having some crazy looking dude hold a lamb (has religious significance to Christians) and then having the whole group bending over looking into something with crazy looks on their faces does not capture the holiday spirit for me. Any Hyundai was really on our short list for a new car. The short list is now minus Hyundai.

One of the strangest ads features a computer-generated image of Orville Redenbacher who died a number of years ago. The commercials for Enzyte with "Bob" are completely obnoxious. The Lamasil commercials with "Digger the Dermatophyte" are gross. The "Easy-Off" commercial that was run for five years straight in the seventies was very irritating.

Some of the best commercials include the GEICO ads, the AFLAC ads featuring the duck, the car commercial with the singing animals in which the dog devours the bird, and a lot of the cat food commercials.
